Happy Birthday, Linda! We are May b-day twins. I just turned 70 on May 3. Agree with your sentiments about being glad to be on this side of the grass despite how this world can sure get me down.
I wanted to post a cartoon thing here and couldn't figure out how to do it. I only see the thing on the left that says "quick reply". The "reply" on the top left is greyed out. That's where I'd get a choice to "add attachment" on my other board. Any clue what I'm doing wrong?
And I guess my "excuse" why I mostly lurk here is that I'm not tuned into the news cycle all day as I sense the rest of you are. Be assured that I still love hearing all your thoughts and opinions!

Happy Belated Birthday, Connie ! In my class there were 5 of us girls who had May Birthdays & one was a May 3rd. Also had 5 Linda's in my class....LOL
Sorry, Connie, I'm not all that tech savvy so can't help you out with attachments.
Thanks ladies for the Birthday wishes.
Do any of you feel like we are getting scammed with this Iran situation & with Pompeo cancelling meeting with Merkle....its seems like a distraction to me or an excuse to get into a war with Iran which Bolton seems to want. Did we not learn anything with the Bush era & Iraq? I don't believe a word that comes out of the WH...Its like the little boy calling wolf one to many times. Just downright dangerous.
Pompey & Arctic melting is just stupidity at its finest!

conniefromct Happy Belated Birthday from me too! Hope you enjoyed your special day. As for being tuned in to the news cycle all day, you're probably better off not being. It just tends to get me frustrated and depressed. The only way I'm able to post a picture is to click on the Reply button in the top right corner of the "Post Quick Reply" box. That opens up and then you can put the link for the picture you want displayed after clicking the Insert Image button. I think you said that Reply button is grayed out for you though, so in that case I don't know what you would do. Maybe try clicking on the Help menu? Good luck with it!

Linda, I don't trust this administration about the Iran situation either. We've already been burned on that once by W, and my "gut" feeling is that Trump is just trying to create a situation unnecessarily. It helps take the news off the fact that he continues to obstruct justice by having his administration ignore Congressional subpoenas, refusing to show his tax returns, and trying to keep the full Mueller report from ever seeing the light of day. He's got a lot to hide, and as cynical as it sounds a war can help with that. I don't put anything past this ego-maniacal bully, and I don't trust a word that comes out of the mouth of a single person in this administration.
About a 100 years ago when I was in college, I had an economics professor that talked about the "guns and butter" theory. Basically it's an economic policy decision of whether a country is more interested in spending money on war or feeding their people. Well, we know this administration has no interest in taking care of the American people, but "guns" can make a lot of money for a lot of people who are already very wealthy.

Another crack pot shoots up students in school. One student dead so far. Just another day in the greatest country in the world.
More talk. More shock. More outrage. More grief and sadness. More nothing. .

Well "The Donald" as Ivana used to call him, is finally the "biggliest" in something -- losing more money than anyone else. Over a billion dollars lost in a little less than a decade. Way to go there JA! What a business powerhouse you are! LOL! Got a busy day ahead, and will try to check back later. Just sick over the latest school shooting, but no longer surprised.

We seem to be moving closer to a dictatorship every single day. Trump totally ignores the Constitution. Will Don Jr show up to testify? Interesting that the Republican led Senate committee has subpoenaed him. Now it's a guessing game as to whether or not he will show up. Definitely we can't expect that he will be truthful in any testimony. But if he refuses to show up, will the Senate stand their ground or will they do what Republicans have been doing since 2016 and fold?
Is holding Barr in contempt going to actually mean anything?

So many questions, not many answers is there!?
Now, that Burr (R) was the one to subpoena, he was called out as a "so called Republican"...LOL...nothing like eating your own when you don't like what they are doing.
I heard snippets of JA laughing off the "shoot them" comment from a rally person when JA was denigrating immigrants again. He also lied AGAIN about PR & was pitting Florida residents against PR. People in the audience were lapping it up like a kitten lapping up warm milk. The rally goers keep oozing out from under their rocks to keep cheering a mentally deranged Fake President on.
I read where Sarah H. Sanders is now revoking hard press passes under some rules she is enforcing. Dana Milbank who had a hard press pass to WH for 21 years had his revoked. You know, I wish, all the reporters would just quit going to the WH, quit going to the gaggles on WH driveway, or wherever. Just let those FOX reporters ask the questions & then not even televise it. Don't put SHS or KAC on political talk shows. Just quit letting them spin their garbage. Take a stand! They crave attention, so don't give them the one thing they need. But I guess all I can do is wish. Sigh!
Donnie Jr is as much a coward as his daddy. He won't testify or else plead the 5th.
I don't know what the answer is anymore. But I think, the Dems need to put some bite behind their words. Maybe the right thing to do is the hardest & may cost them the election, but sometimes one needs to just do the right thing, take a hard stand, do what is expected & at least you can walk away knowing you did the right thing, the best thing for this country by calling out the criminals. You know as well as I do, that if something really awful happens & the House didn't do their job, every Republican will be pointing their finger at the Dems saying you didn't do your job (even tho they are criticizing & taunting them now about impeachment, contempt, etc)...

No answers at all! I heard snippets of his making a joke when someone suggested shooting immigrants as well. The whole crowd of idiots seemed to think that was hilarious. Jokes like that are dangerous. He had an opportunity to show leadership, but he's no leader so as usual he just fed the crowd what they wanted to hear. His ego requires constant adulation. What I can't decide is if he really believes he is so superior to everyone else, or if deep down he believes he's inferior and so has to constantly puff himself up and seek out adoring crowds.
Linda, like you I wish the media and press would just not give them any attention. Ignoring them would be the worst punishment JA could get. But that will never happen. The news is all Trump all the time just as it has been since he announced and just as it will continue. It just fuels the flames, because attention is exactly what he craves.
As for Jr pleading the fifth, it's funny that the JA once said about Hillary's aides that if you're innocent you don't need to take the fifth, and taking the fifth is only for the mob. Ha! As usual though not one single Republican will acknowledge the hypocrisy. Of course, the entire Trump bunch is pretty much just like the mob, so maybe he was right about that after all.
I agree that Democrats can't just let him flout Congress like he is currently doing. They have to put some bite into it and not just role over and capitulate. But even going to court is concerning, because I'm afraid that the SC would side with the JA since it's heavily on his "team." And, if they did that would truly be the end of democracy as we've always known it. Maybe the SC will turn out to have a backbone. He really can't do anything to them. Even nasty tweets that Republicans in Congress are so afraid of would have no affect on SC judges. So maybe there's a little hope there? Please let there be some hope there.
