Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Phyl - I'm glad you were able to get some things in the room cleared and can set up your sewing machine. Good luck with the organizing. I know I still have too much in the house even after all I got out of here earlier this year, it's really tough getting rid of things. Sue - SNOW!! I can't even imagine it in June. I'm so sorry to hear about your friend going into Hospice, but glad the family has Hospice to help. I've always had good experiences with their people and services. Ginny - Hope you are able to get some work done on your quilt block. Ruth - I'm glad you made it home safely but sorry to hear about the continued truck troubles. Maybe the Honda dealership would look over it for a small fee before suggesting any repairs? I'm sure this is all such a hassle. A Baltimore Album quilt is an appliqued quilt (where you stitch pieces of fabric onto a main fabric), here are some examples so you can see. They are beautiful quilts and a lot of work: www.baltimorequiltlady.com/history.htmlwww.womenfolk.com/quilting_history/baltimore_album.htmwww.aqsblog.com/quilt-2018-baltimore-album-quiltsIt is a beautiful day here, for the first day of summer. The temperature was around 80, sunny, and a strong breeze. I've had all the windows open to air out the house and it was a pleasure not to have to run the AC and fans. I'm working on the triangle shawl I mentioned a few weeks back. I'm using Lion Brand Heartland yarn in purple (Hot Springs is the name) and it's a really easy pattern: www.mamainastitch.com/smoky-mountains-crochet-triangle-wrap/Of course, while I was watching a youtube on this, I ended up finding several other shawls I'd like to make too and watching those videos, you can really get lost on youtube Here are a few things I found while I was looking around: www.highlandhickorydesigns.com/snowy-sky-shawl/ - I'd really like to try this one in a variegated yarn www.instagram.com/highlandhickorydesigns/ - some cute pictures on her Instagram The Queen finally wore a bright color to Ascot today - it was a bright pink, nice to see after the more muted colors she was wearing the other days. Take care everyone!

CJ, I bookmarked that pattern and am planning on making it one of these days. The yarn you chose sounds very pretty. I, too, have quite a few shawl patterns in mind. I want to make at least one with Lion brand Mandala yarn, They have very pretty colors in that too. It's a #3 yarn.
I don't think I've ever seen the queen in bright colors. I bet that pink looks good on her.
When they mentioned the Baltimore Album quilt I think they were talking about a Declaration Quiltas being one of those. I don't know if that's a real quilt or one made up for the story but it was one thought to be made by Abigail Adams, and also Betsy Ross and a daughter of Benjamin Franklin and a friend of hers. They signed the blocks and got members of the Continental Congress to sign it too.I do think it's a fictional quilt though. I didn't see anything online about such a quilt. But if it is a real quilt it would be an amazing thing to see.
The crochet along has started but I don't like this first week's pattern so I'm making a crochet cable hat instead. I have it mostly done and I would like to finish so that I end up with at least one done for the week although I'm hoping to make more.Oh and yes, CJ, I see a youtube video and then there's the list on the right side of other videos so I look at all the interesting ones and get carried away bookmarking all of them.
My grandaughter's best friend lost her dad last night. He was only 43 and had a heart attack. She really has no mother because her actual mother is a meth addict and not in her life. She also has a 14 year old brother that has "issues".. I don't know what they are but this is a huge load for someone that just turned 18.She and this particular grandaughter really don't seem very mature for thier age either. My other grandaughter that is 17 would be very capable of handling something like this even though she would be heartbroken and devastated.Kids, even teenagers, are so different.

Oh and CJ, have you seen the virus shawl. It's really pretty too. I'm thinking of making that one also but I'm thinking of making so many things that I know I'll never get to all of them. Nice thing about crocheting is that you can crochet and watch tv at the same time. It's not easy to do that while quilting.

Good to see all the posts....
Ruth, that baby doll is adorable!!!! You have worked with this type of pattern before and I know will figure it out. Wow, how sweet. Best of luck getting the truck repaired by Honda. I hope it all works out for you.
CJ- again thanks for the heads up on the Royal Ascot. I checked out some pictures from today, yes the bright pinkish coral was so pretty. Glad you are enjoying the change in weather too. And I LOVE that scarf/shawl. Another project to add to my list. Ha ha ha
Phyl- now we all have way too much crafting supplies! Just organize and prioritize....and have lots of fun getting done what you can.
Sue, I am still in shock that you had snow.
Loving the weather here since this am. Its cool and breezy. Going into the mid 50’s tonight. Perfect. Got a little bit done on the quilt block. Made a bunch of mistakes- which are all corrected now. I put it down til tomorrow when hopefully my head is better able to see when I am making a mistake. G

Cannot believe the conversation is about snow!!!! Wow.....and its almost July.
Well, I have made more mistakes on block #3 (which is the second block, done in a different color scheme)than a human being out to be able to make! I figured out my mistake/problem and am moving on- recutting all the pieces to the border and am starting over again. Grrrrrr........ G

Sorry about your block having to be ripped out. It's so frustrating when we make mistakes. I just had to rip out a bunch of my hat I'm working on for the CAL
Now I just found out my pastor's wife died. She was only 45 years old and left four kids. The oldest is about 19 I think and the younger ones range down to 11

Regardless of our aches and pains, we are among the lucky ones. Speaking for myself, my children are successful adults. I have had a good life with a few twists and turns, but I was able to self correct. I choose to focus on the positive. I worry about young families and some of the crises they face.
It's been cold (for summer) for two days. Then there will be a week of 70s.
Western tanagers are spending some time in our yard before they head farther north to nest. They're feasting on cotoneaster, dogwood, and other flower buds. So funny when I go outside to see the spectacular flash of orange/red head and black and yellow bodies as they fly out of the shrubs. The snow had a negative effect on some of the trees and shrubs. Broken branches, etc. I have a clump birch out front with four trunks. The weight of the snow bent all four trunks almost to the ground. I don't know if it will spring back enough or not.

Hello Crafters Sue - I guess you will be looking forward to those 70s temperatures. I love seeing all the different birds too, those western tanagers sound beautiful. Ginny - Hope you can get your block figured out and made. That always happens to me when I try paper piecing - I think I'm doing well and then I look and I've messed it up Ruth - I love that crocheted doll!!! It's so cute, thanks for sharing that. I checked out the virus shawl too, it's pretty. I meant to mention yesterday that I always wanted to be a better musician than I am. I'm just middle of the road. I can play the music but I have trouble adding the emotion in. My grandmother was extremely talented and could play organ music by ear. She never learned to read music, she would just listen to a song and then play it on the organ, it was amazing. I'm so sorry to hear about those who have passed away and especially when they leave children behind. That can have a lasting affect on someone's life. Even though I was 20 when my mother died, I wasn't very mature and I sure needed her around for more years. Her dying at that point in my life drove many decisions I made later on in life too. Even though I think it's sad that so many stores can barely stay in business, I was given an example today of why that is happening. I ordered a piano music book of the songs from Les Miserables from Amazon yesterday. It arrived today - and I didn't even use the express shipping. I probably would have had to drive all over looking for this sheet music and I received it at my home in one day. I know this is the way of the future, but I still like to go in stores and buy things when I can. It's nice here today, a bit warmer than yesterday, but still with low humidity. It's been a pleasure to have the windows opened for a few days. Maybe I'll get lucky and have some more days like this during the summer. Take care everyone!

Amazon is so convenient. Yesterday I received the instant mashed potatoes that Costco had carried for so many years. I like real potatoes better, but the convenience is important. hb would like to have a ground beef patty and mashed potatoes every night, but the ground beef has to be from Costco. I repackage enough for two in a zip lock sandwich bag. A gallon freezer bag will hold 45 sandwich bags. I like more of a variety than hb does. I do cook vegetables, too! hb was eating half a cucumber with his dinner but announced one day that the cucumber was giving him a stomach ache. ? That's happened with a lot of foods that he used to like. He was a fussy eater, but now he's an OCD eater. If he doesn't like it, he won't eat it.

CJ, that had to be extremely hard for you to lose your mother at so young an age. Yes 20 is very young for losing a parent and that's when you really need a mom to help you with those young adult decisions. As to the piano playing, I do get the feeling that you underestimate yourself.

I got my second cable hat done after a few misteps. I didn't finish the first one yet because I started the second so that I could see where I was in the first as far as rows go. Dh decided he wants to go out and take care of our errands tomorrow so I packed up all dgs' presents. His bday isn't until the end of October but these are construction toys and better played with outdoors in the summer. I have to do a few more water balloons to put in the box and then tape and address it and I'll be ready.
I hope you're all having a good day and are able to relax and do things you enjoy. It's turning into a nice weather day here after starting out overcast after rain in the night. Some parts of the state still have a lot of snow and even new snow!

Hello Crafters Ruth - I'm glad the CAL has started and you've already finished a few hats, I'll be interested to hear how it goes. Phyl - Hope your table runner is coming along. I'd never attempt a Baltimore Album quilt either - just too much work, but they are beautiful to see. I wouldn't mind doing just one block though, and wish some shop would offer a class like that. Sue - I'm glad you found what you were looking for on Amazon. It is amazing all the things they have there. Ginny - Hope you are enjoying the weekend. Meg and Betty - Hope you are well and would love to hear from you. It's warm here today, gearing up for a week of 90s and humidity coming up. I sure loved the last 2 days, but I guess that's not typical summer weather I went out earlier to get some groceries and pick up things that were on sale. My freezer is full now so I won't need to buy anything for awhile. I do have to go out another day this week and pick up a few other groceries at another store. But then I shouldn't have to go shopping again for 2 weeks. That's what I'm challenging myself to do this summer, since it's such a hassle bringing cold food home on hot days. I checked out the Slow Sunday Stitching blogs, she has a p9ost that it's been 7 years since she started. I enjoy reading her posts and seeing what others are doing. I need to get back to my shawl and I unfolded all the fabrics for the jar quilt too, so I can press them and get them cut. Take care everyone!
