I am treating myself to a pedicure. I had an appointment, but didn't request a specific person. The girl who is working on me has red and green hair, a lot of piercings on her face, big washer holes in her ears, etc. I am ashamed that I cringed when she showed up. Turns out that she is very nice, friendly, and is doing an excellent job. I should know better than to jump to conclusions based on appearance. I would apologize to her, but I don't want her to know I ever thought that to begin with. I guess a nice tip is in order.

Joyce, lol. I'm sure you aren't the first person or the last to be taken back by these new hair colors, styles, bangles, beads, and chains.
I remember the first time I saw a young man with a Mohawk haircut. What? Is that? On his head? Lol.
I also remember when rock and roll was considered the Devils music, and Elvis was obscene.
The youngsters are expressing themselves. Trying new things. Being, well, youngsters.
When I see new and different hair styles, colors, or odd jewelry on kids I tell them I like it, but only if I really do. I don't like angry, mean spirited, hateful or scary stuff.
Don't feel bad, Joyce. She probably posted something on her FB page or chat room about the look on the face of a woman Whose hair she cut today.
Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. Lol.
Hey, it beats wearing a stupid MAGA cap. Lol.

As far as the "freshman class", I'd like to see them do their jobs instead of trying to one-up each other for media sound bites.

I may have posted this before, but a saying about the Democratic party is: when forming a firing squad they get in a circle.
Re: piercings, DH and I have become very friendly with a young lady who just turned 25. We are both 65. She is stunningly beautiful, but has a nose ring. I initially found it very distracting but have gotten to where I hardly notice it anymore. When we go out she changes to a jeweled one which is actually kind of pretty. This is the kind that is at the bottom of the nose, not the side piercing, which doesn't bother me at all.

I agree and I don't think they're doing the party any favors. The other side will frame the choice between a robust economy or flights of fancy. Four more years is unimaginable.

I have been on the go all day and heard no news. Hopefully we're not in the middle of a war and I missed the notice, but with the way things are now you never know. I won't be around much for the next few days. Going to visit #1 step-son and family in Austin. Leaving on Thursday and will be back sometime on Tuesday. In the meantime tomorrow I'm going to be busy packing, but also meeting with hospice for an evaluation of my mom. I don't believe anything is going to happen imminently, maybe not for a long time. With Alzheimer's it's very difficult to know. But I met with one of the nurse practitioner's at the nursing home this afternoon, and like me she thinks my mom is pretty far into the last stage. When I told her I thought it might be time to call hospice, she quickly agreed which made me think she probably had already been thinking that. She immediately jumped on getting that done, and I am meeting with hospice and my mom at the nursing home in the morning. Right now I'm not sure how I am feeling. I've known this was coming, and yet somehow emotionally you're never prepared. I want to do this though as I think it will be best for my mom. She could leave me behind in the next few weeks or she may still be with us this time next year, but I don't think that will be the case. Still only God knows for sure. For my mom's sake, I hope she won't linger because she no longer has any quality of life whatsoever. If we are able to send a man to the moon and back safely, I simply refuse to accept that we can not find a way to prevent and cure Alzheimer's. It is becoming a national epidemic as our population continues to age. It's, of course, far too late for my mom. Too late for me. But it doesn't have to be too late for our grandchildren. I firmly believe that the reason more is not already known about this horrible disease is that it is less profitable to find a cure than it is to continue with the status quo.

(((((Joyce and her Mom))))) Sadly, I agree with you. There is no money in cures. Lots of money in treatments. Lots and lots and lots of money in research too.
I've been hearing there's a cure right around the corner since I was a teenager.
That's one hell of a corner!
Thinking of you, Joyce. XXX000

Thank you all. I appreciate your virtual hugs and comforting thoughts. As I said, there's no way to know how much longer this could continue, and I'm not expecting anything fast. But, from everything I read and what I see with my mom we are definitely in the final segment. There's just no way to know how long that segment could continue. It's much easier to estimate times with people who have a disease like cancer or heart failure. The irony is that my mom always tried so very hard to keep herself healthy. She was careful about what she ate and exercised faithfully. She tried to stay mentally alert and active, but Alzheimer's has no mercy on anyone in its path.

nashville11 , both my parents had dementia. Luckily (?) they both also had heart disease so their time in care was relatively short: less than a year for both. I am sorry you are dealing with this. I know, this seems to be the reward for taking care of your health - the body outlives the mind.

nashville11 , Joyce, thinking of you and what you're going through. I had the same experience with not knowing when to get hospice on board. They were so wonderful and in hindsight I wished I had gotten them earlier. My Dad had OK quality of life up till the last 4 months and then really went downhill quickly. He couldn't live alone for the last 3 years though. I just hate to think that a cure is being held up because long term care places are so lucrative. UGH UGH UGH!! Hope you enjoy your time away and get your batteries recharged.

Good morning! Just wanted to stop and say a quick hello before heading off to another very busy day.
Clearly Mitch McConnell has no shame. He can't be responsible for being the descendant of slave owners, but to compare himself to Obama is beyond any words I can think of to describe it. Ever notice how his face looks like a weasel or a rat? He just makes my skin crawl to look at him. I will admit that now that Trump is in the White House, we are going to have to Make America Great Again since they have destroyed it. But I know what would Make America Great Again. Get Trump, McConnell, and Lindsey Graham out of office. That alone would go a very long way to restoring our country to it's true greatness.
