Great to have some company here!!! I am going to have to be brief- just a bit tired as I had to get up in the middle of the night with Dgd. Lord knows she has been here enough but its been a year since she has slept here. I kind of figured she might want some adult reassurance-and she did. So I did not get a full nights rest.
CJ- that cake from Costco sounds adorable and what a great idea!!! I am not familiar with Pons and Forster or Its so easy....guess I will have to check out my cable system and see what is available to me. And I am not crafty, just found a great idea through a friend who found this easy craft online.
Sue, well its nice to know that this friend is still around and able to meet when it works for both of you. So glad you got out to see each other!! And a good thing that the snow did no damage. Here I well remember the October snow storm that paralyzed this region. We were fine but only a few miles south, my mom (who was still alive) went without power for a week- because none of the trees in North NJ had dropped their leaves and we got several inches of wet snow. Some areas were without power for 10 days. Glad that did not happen to you.
Ruth, yes that in itself is a lot of work, getting all those wonderful gifts made and ready before you move so that you do not have to make them after the move- when it might very well be too hectic. I can easily understand how a hat is a great project, easy and kind of mindless once you get the pattern in your head. And a hippo rattle must be adorable...
Phyl, so glad that the class was so good! She gave great advice about thread. In my class she told us to use thread to match the back in the bobbin and whatever you like on the top. (Which I get so that you do not see mistakes on the back). But to use both the same sure makes a ton of sense- that way those pesky tension issues are not so evident. On the table runner I made last week (which I gave to DD#2 who is just setting up a home) I had some tension issues and chose to let them slide (you could only see them if you looked carefully on the back). I did some FMQ on it, a sort of ribbon stitching pattern that turned out pretty well. Have you done much FMQ?? I will have to check out those youtubes....
Did a lot of cleaning and now hope to snatch some time to start back up on my BOM. I want to work on the tree skirt for DD#2 but better get that sashing done on the BOM so I can finish it. I have come too far to let it slide into being a UFO. Ginny

CHONEY, LOOK FOR THE CREATE CHANNEL. THEY DO NOT ALWAYS HAVE THE SAME SHOW ON EVERYDAY.
ONE DAY COULD BE NANCY'S NOTIONS ANOTHER DAY FONS AND PORTER ETC.
I LIKE FONS AND PORTER BETTER WHEN THEY WERE BOTH ON. THEY ARE RETIRED AND HAVE OTHER DESIGNERS SHOWING ABOUT QUILTING.
I Can get the shows at 5 am. think they have later ones about 9 or 11 am.phy

Phyl, that class sounds wonderful. I'll have to check those youtubes also. I'll need to if I ever get to using this fabric up that I have by making it into quilts. They sure won't be quilts that would be approved by any experts but they will be pretty just from the fabric. So I need to learn how to put them together and do some kind of quilting. Makes sense to me to use the same colors on both sides Ginny, my grandchildren...the older ones used to stay here a lot and my grandson that is soon to be 29 used to have night terrors so he would wake up and need adult reassurance also. I hope you can get some sleep tonight.Your tension issues I'm sure are like my crochet mistakes...no one but me knows they're there. The programs Cj mentions are on PBS...and, as Phyl said, on the one they call Create. If and when we move we won't have cable or sat tv during the times we're just visiting there for a few months the first couple years so I'll be watching a lot of PBS. Dh is already figuring out what to make to hold all my yarn there and how to transport it all. Just wait till he finds that I'm also taking my sewing machine and some fabric . So if course I'll need my rotary cutter, the cutting mat, thread, etc.Oh and my box of polyfil to stuff toys I make and the big roll of batting for the quilts...yep I need a whole building for my crafts.

Chilly this morning. When the temperature is warmer I need to see if I can get rid of the ice surrounding the side garage door. It's treacherous this morning. I often put a rug runner out there, but this is so early. Ice is ice. I need to go look.
There's going to be a Hunter's Moon tonight. I plan to set an alarm so I don't miss it as it is just coming up.
Ruth, one of my neighbors made crocheted rugs with her surplus fabric. Huge crochet hook. They were really good looking.
I sprayed wasp nests in the shed this morning. I need to spray the mailbox frame, too. The wasps were extremely lethargic.

we get a lot of wasp nests here too. They like to make them inside the car doors that you rarely open, in the mirror wells of the cars and under the gas tank lid not to mention in the gas grill.

Good evening, Yes, Sue, wasps are super lethargic in the early am and late afternoon - as long as its cold. Good idea to do so in the am while they are still sleepy. One of those things I wonder about- wasps are so obnoxious (as are yellow jackets) what is their function??? Were you able to safely take care of the ice situation around the side garage door? Bet its better that you take care of that now- so that it is not jammed up with ice for the entire winter. stay safe....
Phyl- thanks so much for the info on the create channel! Looks like I do get it, but its in the later channels. I confess to being very lazy and only rotating between a few channels. And I am way too lazy to look for others channels. Guess I will have to keep up with their program line up for my region though. Its always good to have a show DVR’ed for when you want to view something. I do miss Alex Anderson’s (think that is her name) Simply Quilts. Not sure if they even make that show anymore, or if it is who carries it.
Ruth, a few times that we have gone away I have taken my sewing machine along for the ride if we are off to a place like the beach that I am none too fond of. I always make sure that I pack Mr Singer along for the ride. In our older car (which we no longer own) I had a little side pocket of sorts in the trunk that just fit my machine, safe and sound. Your Dh has always been so supportive of your handwork- he asks for hats and scarves for himself. I cannot imagine that he would not want you to bring your craft supplies. And because family is close by, you might find you want to make even more for them and can now share your abilities with your granddaughters. Now being a practical sort as I am (and you all can stop laughing now!) remember that thread, a rotary cutter, cutting mat etc....take up next to no room to transport. Ok Fabric can be a bit bulky and batting smashes down nicely into a suitcase. Or you can order more batting when you arrive. Joanns and Amazon are happy to ship some to you.
Well today turned out differently. Dh agreed to go to church with me, so we went to the church that Dd#2 attended while in college. WHile up there we walked across the Hudson River (on a walking path which is a restored rail bridge, lovely walk in the fall) and had a late lunch out. A very nice day. Now gotta find a craft for the grand kids on Tuesday.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Sue - I'm glad you didn't get any damage from the snow. Hope you enjoy the Hunter's Moon. Phyl - I'm glad you enjoyed the class and thanks for sharing the tips with us. Ruth - Hope you are enjoying working on your crochet projects today. Ginny - Hope you got better rest last night. Those shows I mentioned are on my PBS station and they come on early on Saturday mornings (6 AM and 7:30 AM) which is not a good time for me. I don't get the Create channel when they have shows at noontime. I wish PBS would realize that a lot of "older" women are home during the weekdays and put a few crafting shows on at that time - but I think we are a forgotten demographic for TV viewing (just my opinion). It's cloudy and cool here today and I haven't done much. I'll check out the Slow Sunday Stitching blogs later. I watched the It's Sew Easy show and it had two segments - one on foundation paper piecing and one on binding. Both were pretty interesting. I tried to clear a few things off my sewing table but then I get overwhelmed and stop. I need to break it down into small parts. The funny thing is that there isn't that much on the table really, it's just that it's a variety of different things and I need to figure out where they all go. I need to get motivated to get this done Take care everyone!

Ginny, they have some really nice sites for crafts for children online. I saw some crafts made from coffee filters that were great. It was awhile ago though so I don't remember where they were but I bet you could find them easily. Yes dh may be a grouch sometimes and there may be things about him that I'd like to see him change (just as he probably has things he would like me to change) but I do have to say that he's very supportive of my crafting. That trip you made to church today and afterward sounds just so lovely. Were the leaves turned? I used to love to walk in fallen leaves back in NY. That's one of the things I look forward to in INd or Ky is falling leaves. Of course I'll feel different about it when I get there and have to rake. One of my fondest memories was back in 2006 when I went to Ky when ds and ddil's 4th was born. The kids and I raked leaves. It was Novenber and the weather was so great there You're so right about the cutting mat, rotary cutter and thread and also about Joann's and the other craft places...they're all too happy to mail things to you. CJ, I was just thinking of you looking at the quilting sites for Sunday. I haven't seen the programs you mentioned...It's Sew easy, etc..and now I know why...well one of the reasons and that is that I'm definitely not up at that hour. I'm not a morning person AT ALL. Dh found yet another house online today. It's an old farm house supposedly but doesn't look like it from the outside but in my mind I already have my craft room set up upstairs. The main bedroom is downstairs and there are three little ones and an attic space upstairs...Perfect for storing my crafting materials and for me to work in. There's a barn and another outbuilding for dh. (although if it's cold out there I might let him use one of "my" three rooms . Of course we probably won't end up buying that one because of the fact it's so old and may have "issues" I got my hippo rattle done. I had to force myself to sew on the muzzle and ears and embroider the eyes on. I say embroider but it's one line but they look cute. I know my dh is going to say he can't tell if it's a hippo or a pig because it's pink but it sure doesn't look like a pig nose

Oh and Ginny, yes, a few years ago I taught the older ones how to crochet. Now I'd love to crochet with them again and teach them more stitches and how to follow patterns, etc and also to teach the youngest three girls how to crochet. The oldest grandaughter says she likes knitting better and when she was here a couple years ago she tried to teach me a new way of casting on in knitting but I didn't do too well with that. She could try again.
