Hi all and happy hump day,
Pam, safe journeying home to LA. I hope the trip goes well and I'm sure you'll be happy to be back in your own bed again. At least, I always am! :-) Your trip sounded great and as usual, your high energy level makes it even more fun to enjoy those DGKs.
Ann, hope the bone density went okay. I had one a while back and have some arthritis in my back that goes with the territory, I guess.
I made a pork tenderloin last night and halfway through my oven shut off. The panel touch pad just wasn't working. Hmmm...while DH walked the dogs, I looked on the internet and fixed it. LOL I swear our brains live inside of Google. All I had to do is go to the breaker panel and switch on and off the switch pertaining to the oven. Who knew? DH was worried that he'd be working on it all night. We had the pork with mashed potatoes and green beans and applesauce. Tonight I will use the leftovers to whip up a chinese stir fry with celery, veggies and bean sprouts, etc. My mom always did that and called it Chop Suey and I have continued that tradition.
DH and I are a bit disheartened after talking to a very reputable builder about a new home on the Cape. This is the third expert we've talked to. The cost per square foot on new construction is near $300 now which prices us out of our 2400 s.f. house. It's not a huge house, but materials and labor are through the roof. Nothing to compare with the astronomical $1000/s.f. in the San Francisco area my DD lives in, but still we have to really think about all this before proceeding. We do live in a very expensive area, no doubt. Seems hard to believe when you already own the land and also we purchased the house and land on the Cape so have already sunk quite a bit into the property. Ugh. Discouraging for sure and I feel especially bad for DH because he really wanted this but feels as I do. Buying an existing home is much cheaper.
Today I have a luncheon with a good pal who I have sort of lost touch with along the way and she wants to reconnect. Years ago, we were "thick as thieves" so it's good that she reached out. She was once a part of our book club, but sort of dropped out and "off the grid" for a while. No one heard from her and some were hurt by her disappearance. I figure she had a good reason so I let it go. we are heading to Zorba's, Ann, for a nice Greek luncheon. I love that place!
Sue, glad you and DH are getting all that good rest. Your planned meals sound good!

Hi all. Just got back from my wonderful mani/pedi and I feel like a million I'm all about those little things. We are getting ready now to take LuLa for her shot then it's home to stay for me anyway. Cool out there today. The no sun makes the temps ever cooler! No complaints from me, though LOL. Judy enjoy your lunch out with your good pal. It's nice to reconnect. Sorry about the building at the Cape ordeal. You need to do what you both feel most comfortable with. Keep us posted as to your decision. LOL on the mind and brain of google. Good for you for going that route and with great results. Bet that pork tasted extra special Well, time for me to get a move on. WAving.........and wishing all a wonderful rest of the day!

Good Afternoon, WW Friends ~
Happy Hump Day!! We have a beautiful sunny day here with a high near 70. The past few days have been beautiful and delightful for the kids on the playground. This week is really flying by!
DH finally finished up that two week job (also known as nightmare) this week. He had to buy parts, and even made one part in his Shop because it wasn't available. Good thing he is so good at what he does. He has been working on coolers, etc., for 50+ years and this one really gave him a run for his money. BUT now that it is working and the bill has been paid he is much encouraged. Also he got calls to purchase two pieces of equipment that we had on Craig's List as well as two service calls. Really is feast or famine in his line of work, so it is a good thing I have always stashed extra operating cash. We're a good team!
Last night's sirloin steak was delicious. It was big enough that I cut it in half and served us each 1/4 and put one-half away for another day. Now I don't feel pressured to plan and cook every day - as I have grilled chicken in the fridge and steak and Turkey 3-Bean Chili - and today I put a pork tenderloin with a Maple Bourbon sauce in the crock pot for tonight. We'll have fridge full of leftovers for the next few days!
Judy ~ I guess I didn't know you were planning to build a new home on the Cape. Is it to replace the one you have now? Or what are you going to do with the one you have now?
Ann ~ I am also "all about the little things". I am so glad you are enjoying the awesome weather!
BBL. Make a great day!

Good evening all. WE had a very productive day. Went for my well deserved mani/pedi, took LuLa to the vet. Took a short 'walk between the raindrops' and then went to the Pharmacy as Carl had to pick up an Rx. While there, we decided to get out tetanus shots as our arms were feeling good from the other shots we got. Now we are 'one and done' for now! It's a good feeling Tomorrow I plan on going to weight watchers providing my arm doesn't decide to 'act up'. I want my etool voucher. I no longer stay for meetings.....I go to keep up my lifetime status only. Sue the story you shared about your DH put a smile on my face. How nice that you both work so well together Always ice to have a 'stash' for a rainy day. Also great that you have plenty of tasty healthy meals readily available. I often go 'shopping in my deep freeze' LOL and come up with quick and easy meals to put together. Takes the guesswork out of things. Well, I'm now doing to grab the kindle and find me another book to get involved in. Sweet dreams

Good morning all. Slept well once again. This weather is really helping me in that department My arm is a little sore and stiff. I popped an ibuprofen last night and just took a Tylenol. I do plan on going to weight watchers to weigh in at 5:00 but won't stay for the meeting. Just do my monthly thing, get my etool voucher and be on my merry way. No plans for today. Did enough running around yesterday. I do have some 'chores' to do in the house. Wishing all a great OP day and will CBL.

Good Morning, WW Friends ~
Our beautiful weather is rapidly coming to an end. It will be warm today and tomorrow - then much cooler (like by 20 dg) on the weekend. I fear we will have to turn the furnace on over the weekend, much to my dismay!!
Friday I am meeting my niece for lunch and catch-up; then Saturday I have a Red Hat birthday breakfast, after which we are all going to a Craft Show that we've not been to before. It should be interesting. I am glad I have so much food prepared ahead so I don't have to worry about cooking. Actually it isn't the cooking that troubles me so much as the planning. But it's all good.
Yesterday's pork loin cooked in the crock pot with the Apple Bourbon sauce was delicious and I have two more containers (one for the fridge and one for the freezer). I am thinking of making Hamburger Pie tonight (to which DH just said YES) and then I will have half of that meal left over to go in the freezer. I still need to cook my Butternut Squash soup (maybe this afternoon) so it can go in the fridge as well. We may fill in with soup and turkey sandwiches one evening this weekend. We've both been wanting pizza (and we have some in the freezer) so that may be tomorrow (with a salad).
My DH is in much better spirits since he finished that big job. It had begun to really weigh on his mind (unlike I've ever seen anything else do) and I am so happy that he is back to his usual fun-loving self. Also making a big bank deposit raised his spirits considerably. I never worry because God really does provide and we just have to do our part by doing the next right thing. Whenever things get tight, I jokingly remind DH that "we've never missed a meal". That makes us both laugh and puts things back in perspective. The fact that right after he finished that job he got calls on not one, but two pieces of equipment for sale made us both LOL, but in a very joyful way indeed. Our faith has gotten us through some really tough times.
Sunday we have to travel an hour away for the final Retrouvaille presentation of this series and a dinner to follow - so we will be home a little later but well fed and ready to relax a bit. I just finished a breakfast of blueberry oatmeal and will be taking a HB egg with me to school for my protein snack.
Ann ~ I have been thinking about tetanus shots for DH and me, so glad you mentioned it. Did Medicare pay for them? Did you get them at the same place you got your flu shots?
BBL. Make a great day!!

Hi all and happy Thursday - it is going to be a rainy, cool one here and I have my turtleneck, ankle booties and warm sweater on at work. Our old buildings here are very drafty and cold and the A/C unit is still in the window for another week so I have my space heater going, too! Hope I don't blow a fuse.
DH and I had our Shingrix follow up shots last night. My arm is a bit sore but okay otherwise, but he said he has the "chills" and feels very tired. This will pass. We also had our "senior" flu shots and previnar as well. So we are all shot up and fingers crossed for good health.
Sue, we had planned to tear down the existing home build a new one at the Cape and retire there. We have a really nice water view flat acre of land in a very nice neighborhood on a quiet circle. We are thinking of other options now. These decisions are hard. We won't sell the house there no matter what because we both love it.
You and your DH are a good team and I agree with you about doing the next right thing. That's all any of us have to do.
Ann, glad you got your tetanus shot out of the way. I had one not too long ago, too.
I have a message from my DSIL today that is worrying. She lives in NC and was rushed to the hospital with a very low blood count. She had passed out and they have given her two transfusions so far. Keep her in your prayers. Her name is Susan and she survived pancreatic cancer about 10 years ago. I don't know what all this means now, but I'll keep you posted. UPDATE: My nephew just called and he said her issues were all about her inability to absorb Iron and B12 due to an intestinal reconstruction she had to have many years ago. So, all is well and they hope she will be headed home soon. PHEW!!!!!!
I woke up at 4:30 AM today and never got back to sleep so I gave up and started reading my next Sue Grafton book. Then I did doze off for another half hour. I went to bed at 9:45 last night so that's probably why I woke up so early. I am way too much of a night owl generally and trying to change that.
Have a great day all. I hope Pam is merrily moving along towards home.

Good afternoon all. Happy to announce that the closets are all switched out and I'm on my very last load of laundry!!!!! Hip hip hurray and all that jazz LOL. We walked LuLa and it sure feels like fall out there today. Not much sunshine and when that wind picks up it's mighty chilly. Glad I had my hoodie on Sue you are awesome with all those meals cooked up and ready. I went 'freezer surfing' last night and found a beef stew that is simmering away in the crock pot as I type. Love the idea of such quick easy and healthy meals all ready to just defrost/heat up/dig in and enjoy So happy that DH is in a better place now that the job is complete. I too believe in the power of prayer. Where would we be without it? We had to pay 25.00 co-pay for the shots. No the flu shot we got at our doctors office...this one was at the pharmacy. Judy what a scare with DSIL. Happy that it was an easy fix Judy I too am a night owl. Now it doesn't much matter being retired...but when I worked that alarm clock surely did annoy me Pam safe travels. Time for me to unplug and relax till it's time to go to weight watchers to weigh in only. Take care, all!

We're home!!!
I am sitting in my lazyboy enjoying a glass of wine. We have unpacked and put everything away. We stopped on the way home to pick up milk and veggies and also stopped and got a bbq chicken & ribs dinner to split. Neither of us wanted to cook and one of our favorite bbq spots was across the highway from the grocery store we stopped at. We stopped early last evening, so had a longer drive than usual today, getting home around 4:00 pm. With the cold and snow headed across the middle USA, I am glad we left MI when we did. Temps here should be cooler this weekend. I promised friends to "bring home" some cooler air, so I'm glad it's working out, lol.
We had a good visit in MI. Madison is very attached to me, but Leah prefers DH. I don't get upset about it, because Madison was rather stand-offish at 2 years old and now chatters away to me non-stop and give lots of hugs and kisses. I'm sure it will be the same with Leah. I do find the difference in parenting styles between us and DD/DSIL to be trying. They are much more "touchy-feely" and therefore put up with more whining than DH & I did. However, I am smart enough to know that "different" is not a bad thing and they have to find the methods that work for them. The quiet in my house is deafening in comparison, though, lol. God bless the many grandparents in this country who are raising their grandchildren!!!
Sue - Congrats to your DH on keeping his cool and getting the difficult job finished. How nice that the equipment sold as well! It sounds like you have a busy weekend planned.
Ann - You are caught up on all the immunizations and DH and I haven't started yet. I do have an appt. scheduled for next week. I was sorry to read about your friend's death. I am glad his wife has lots of family to comfort her.
Judy - My jaw dropped at the price per sq. ft.! I think it is around $180 here. Is it possible to remodel the home you have instead of starting from scratch? I'm sure you and DH will find a solution.

Hi all,
TGIF!
Welcome home, Pam, and I am glad you had a safe return. I am sure you are exhausted. How many hours is that drive? I am with you on different parenting styles. However I try to keep my mouth shut ( I don't always succeed - lol) and they are all wonderful and attentive parents so far. I am with you on God bless those grandparents raising their grandchildren. I don’t have that kind of energy or patience left and I also feel we raised our own and now it is their turn. I do love being a Grammie though, and I sure would love more time with them and to babysit now and then, etc
I had a reaction to the second Shingrix vaccine. I felt lousy and had a fever and the chills last night. I felt like my cold/cough/flu like symptoms were coming back. I couldn’t sleep well and wound up on the LA Z Boy again. Today I feel better except I still have a pretty sore arm. I don’t remember any side effects last time I had the shot, but DH remembers he had them.
I was tired last night after working late to get ready for a Board of Trustees meeting – left work at 7. DH picked up more food from Ciao Bella and I ate about a third of my chicken parm. Honestly, it was enough for three full meals, but I do remember when I could polish the whole thing off so that’s progress to an extent!
We are talking to more builders and some re-modelers. Pam, yes, we explored remodeling but the “bones” of a 1929 cottage may not be strong enough to do what we want without very extensive work. However, it is still an option on the table. I wish we lived in your area. If you think this is bad, my DD’s area is $1000/s.f. Isn’t that insane? Smaller houses are priced at 2-3 million. Not a place we could afford to live.
Ann, I hope you have a good day and you, too, Sue.
I will be ready for a nap by 2 PM. Here's hoping I get a GOOD night's rest tonight.

Judy I had similar symptoms last year but this year just a sore arm. Feel better relax and hope you get that nap in.
We took a brisk hood walk early morning. Now just sipping our second cup of coffee.
Take care and enjoy your day.

Good morning!
I slept well and feel refreshed. Our trip to MI is roughly a 17 hour drive without stops and closer to 20 with lunches, gas stops, traffic congestion, etc. We generally drive 12 hours the first day on the trip there, as we usually have an ice chest full of frozen shrimp, crab, crawfish and corn for DD3. On the way home, we don't have to push as hard, plus we gain an hour moving from EDT to CDT. DH tried a different route coming home that proved unsuitable, both with places to stay and eat and 2 lane roads in places.
We have spent the morning chilling with OUR coffee, in OUR chairs and sorting through a week's worth of mail. I also had some new events to add to my calendar and one to delete, as Tonya the Diva Yoga Instructor has discontinued the Tues. class. I have no idea why, but it works for me as I was having to hurry home from class to get ready for RCIA.
DH and I both ate from the one bbq dinner we brought home and still have enough meat left for another meal for each of us, as well as a lunch-sized serving of cole slaw and potato salad. Tonight we will have our version of taco salad, which has extra veggies of all sorts. The scale is up 3.5 lbs. from my last "official" WI 2 weeks ago, so it is time to buckle down. My eating was pretty loosey-goosey while we were gone. I enjoyed chips, candy, ice cream and apple cider donuts, which are not usual parts of my diet, as well as ample servings of wine. Now, it's back to the real world. I am hoping some of the gain showing today is from all the restaurant/fast food. I will be drinking lots of water for the next couple days to flush things out and get back to walking and yoga. Our temps should be falling this weekend, so walking should be great, once the rain ends.
Regarding the Shingrix reaction, I have heard benedryl helps with the symptoms.
Judy - My cousin and her husband sold their tiny house in CA, and were able to buy a larger one in the Salt Lake City area and use the remainder to fund their retirement. Crazy, huh? Her mom was a shrewd real estate investor. Back in the 1950's, at her impetus, they moved the family from Nebraska to CA into a duplex. They lived in half and rented half. Then bought a four-plex and did the same. They kept moving up until they retired to a 3 million dollar home in northern CA. When my uncle died, my aunt sold that place at a huge profit and moved to Salt Lake where she lived until she died.
Have a great day! I'll be back later to check on posts.
