Hi all!
It is a beautiful sunny day here, with the high predicted to be 74. I am headed out for a walk shortly, but first need to download a book to listen to. The Goldfinch got "repossessed" again by the library last evening. I placed another hold, lol.
Not much on the agenda for today, other than RCIA tonight. Dinner menu is fresh salmon, garlic mashed potatoes and green beans from the garden. Lunch will be Progresso light beef pot roast soup, fruit bowl, sugar snap peas and carrots. I have not been hungry for breakfast, so just enjoy my coffee with ff milk and wait for lunch. I guess I am following a fast program without intending to, as I do most of my eating in an 8 hour period between 11:00am and 7:00pm. That's just when I am hungry most days.
Sue - I like Lands' End, too. The clothes are excellent quality and last forever. I have several of the flannel shirts and after 3 years of washing and drying, the colors are still vivid. I am going to try some of the crust-less apple pie soon, as I think DH will enjoy it, too. Thanks for the quinoa reminder. I like it, but DH doesn't, so I use it for lunch or breakfast.
Judy - Funny that you will be attending a Pancreatic Cancer fundraiser. One of the people in my Alzheimer's caregiver support group just told me his loved one has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Luckily, it hasn't spread. They have a consult tomorrow regarding radiation therapy. She is still in the early stages of Alzheimer's, so I am guessing they will choose to treat it. Anyway, a karaoke night sounds like fun! Your DH definitely resembles RR.
Ann - I, too, am watching very carefully what I eat, since I used up all my weeklies on the weekend. Thursday will be a challenge as we will eat out before the little theatre performance.

Good Afternoon, WW Friends ~
Ann ~ LOL about "hiding" Carl's things you are going to donate. I made my DH go through some things recently and give me the ones to donate, which I put in my bag. Otherwise he would hang onto everything too! As far as Quinoa - I used to make my very favorite lunch when we had the Auction business. It was a serving of cooked Quinoa, 1/2 c. black beans and a dressing of EVOO & Cumin. When I wanted to be fancy, I added some chopped tomato and chopped avocado to it. It was delicious!! Tonight I think I will add some black beans to the cooked Quinoa and season it, then put a dollop on each of our salads.
Judy ~ LOL about our movie star husbands!I have never been to a Vermont Country Store, but have enjoyed their catalogs for years now. I am like a little kid with the Wish Book from the Toy Store! Enjoy going there. We also have Professional Development Day on Election Day because many of our schools double as polling places. I voted absentee, so don't have to worry about it.
Pam ~ I LOVE my Lands End things. I still prefer The Loft jeans, but it's because they fit like they were tailored to me. BUT, for things like coats - it's Lands End all the way. Also they carry everything in Petite, so I get the right length in body and sleeves, which is so important to me. DH and I still have (and wear) the Squall jackets we ordered from them for our Alaska trip in 2002 .... in fact, I wore mine today. It is perfect for this weather.
I had a very successful trip to the dentist. He was able to alter my existing partial to work again, and it still fit which amazed him! I wore it for a while then took it out for a bit. It is tiring my mouth out (rather like it did in the beginning). I still don't know how it'll do with eating, but we'll see. It pleases me to have it again.
I went right from the dentist to Kohl's and picked up the Christmas gift that I had ordered for DH; and also shopped the Clearance Rack. I found a dress that I loved (and fit me) that was marked down to $15 - and I had a $10 reward certificate as well as a 20% off coupon - so it ended up costing me $4.00. I may wear it to the wedding we're invited to on Nov. 30th, but we'll see. It is a fabric that is year-round with 3/4 sleeves with lattice cut-outs, so it's very versatile. From there I went to Sam's Club where I snagged a fresh rotisserie chicken - as well as a package with 4 rotisserie chicken breasts very fairly priced - and now they are in 2 packs of 2 each in the downstairs freezer.
To say today has been a success would be an understatement!! I have finished one load of laundry and the second one is in the washer as we speak. They'll be done and put away before DH gets home. Tomorrow I go back to school and my partner is still on vacation so hopefully someone shows up to help us?? But just two days and then done! This weekend looks like all fun on my calendar which pleases me immensely!
Take care all .......

Hi again,
You are too funny, Ann, hiding your DH’s clothing to donate. Ha ha! Mine has actually removed things from both donation boxes and trash but it’s ironic because he is the one always telling me we need to “pare down.” I think he means pare down MY stuff. LOL At any rate, I could use a secret elf donating my stuff. I try but never seem to get it all organized.
My books get poofed away, too, Pam. I like the "repossessed" phrasing! That is why I often like to buy ones that are long and that I know I want to read. You will like the Goldfinch. Sad about your patient who has Pancreatic cancer. It’s such a bad one, though my sister in law in NC beat it completely. She was diagnosed very early before it spread. It was a miracle. I lost another dear friend at 45 years old with it. It was tragic as he had two little kids.
Sue, you sure are a smart shopper. I generally forget about those coupons until they have expire and then I am slapping myself. But, I tell myself I saved some money in the long run. You are the queen of the deals at Kohl’s. I am sure the dress is wonderful especially for $4. How can you lose?
I had a long chat with my DD today. She has decided to postpone her surgery on the ACL and ankle tumor for now after a consult with an orthopedic surgeon who specialized in strictly ankles and feet. He wants her to try an orthotic ankle brace for three months rather than jumping in to surgery. He said it might work. She had two other surgeons wanting to go ahead with both the ACL and the ankle right away, but this guy said that sounded a bit aggressive and her recovery would be doubly long since she could not do PT for the ACL with an ankle recovering too. Sounded like a good advice for now. She has enough in her life with the kids and her own preschool right now. No matter how old they get, we worry about our grown children. My brother and I were saying it is often worse because we no longer have control over their lives as we did when they were little. Not that I want control, but you know what I mean.
I am really liking A Drinking Life by Pete Hamill, the NY Times journalist. I love his writing and it’s autobiographical. Anyone with Irish blood from the NYC area would really love it – all about his growing up in Brooklyn and his family who were very poor. Very interesting – actually I think you’d all like it. He’s a great writer.

Judy sounds like DD has met a wonderful surgeon. So many want to rush into things. Praying that it all works well for her. Thanks for the thumbs up on another book If Carl had his way, he'd have the first pair of socks he wore....seriously he has real issues 'letting go'. Me? I'm the queen of heave!!!!!!! Sue you truly ARE the shopping queen! I use coupons....when I remember to LOL. One place that I love using coupons is at Bed Bath and Beyond as they do not expire Love that you got that dress for $4.00 I'm also a huge fan of Land's End. As my gramma would say, their clothing (especially coats/jackets) wear like iron Donna came over for a visit and stayed for supper. We so enjoy her company. She will come back on Friday to spend the day. We'll have 'girl time' as Carl will be off on his grand jury stint! Time to get jammified!

Good morning all. We are off to see our PCP today. I think she wants to speak to Carl about the urologist. While there, I am going to ask if she can check my neck. The sides are tender to the touch. Hopefully it's nothing. After that, we'll do some retail therapy and mosey on home.

Good Morning, WW Friends ~
Happy Hump Day!! We have some downright cold weather (below freezing already). Our normal temp this time of year is mid 50's so this is unusual! Seems awfully early to deal with this.
I decided to hang onto my coat I intend to donate until my new one arrives. I have a few down jackets that I keep for running errands, etc., but hate to part with a heavier one until the replacement is in place. Meanwhile, I have plenty of coats to wear.
Ann ~ Good luck with your PCP visit today. Enjoy your retail therapy. Hope you hit the jackpot!
Judy ~ I have to applaud your DD's decision. When I was having such terrible sinus issues, I went for a CAT scan (and took a copy on disk) then went to an ENT who confirmed that I had sinus issues, and told me he "could operate" but that he ran as high a chance of making it worse as making it better. Words cannot tell you how very grateful I was to him - and remain so! So honest, and so helpful. If I have issues in the future, I will definitely return to him. Thanks for the kudos about my shopping. I am not usually a dress-wearer, so I hesitated to buy one just for this upcoming wedding, but the one I got is a light enough fabric to wear all year round, it is knee length, it is a shift (so very comfortable) and I just love the 3/4 sleeves with their cut-outs!! The print is also quite eye-catching - at least to me.
Pam ~ I am so jealous of your temps in the 70's!! We are freezing here!! Interesting about your unintentional fast program. But if you're not hungry, you're not hungry. Yesterday I didn't eat lunch. Usually I just drink a Premier Protein drink at school and then wait for supper. But yesterday I had a noon dentist appointment then went shopping, so nothing (and I didn't die LOL).
For supper last night I mixed the quinoa and black beans and seasoned with cumin and put a serving over top of each of our green salads. Then we added rotisserie chicken (breast only for me) and had quite a huge bowlful of goodness!!
I have had my yogurt and berries with Fiber One cereal this morning and packed a strawberry Premier Protein drink for my lunch. The other gal that works with us texted me last night that her son is sick and was diagnosed with strep yesterday. He goes to our school, and she needs to keep him home, which means she won't be there either. I've already sent a text to our HS staff about some help and they said "Absolutely"! Nonetheless, it will be nice next week to have my usual work partners back as we work efficiently together. Tonight we are having the leftovers of the Bulgur Turkey Pot Pie for supper.
BBL. Make a great day!!

Good morning, Cafe Dwellers!
It's another beautiful day in the neighborhood! A cold front is passing through tomorrow night and will bring our high temps down to the 50's, so I will enjoy this while I can.
I forgot to eat my afternoon snack yesterday and woke a little hungry this morning so had a breakfast. I blended a cup of milk, a ripe banana, Dannon Vanilla Coconut light Greek yogurt and 1 T. flax and chia seeds. It was quite tasty. Lunch will be a ham sandwich on Dave's Killer bread, Progresso Light Pot Roast soup, yellow squash and applesauce. For dinner, DH is making Arroz con Pollo with leftover baked chicken breast. He adds veggies like onion, corn, peas and carrots, so it makes a hearty meal. We will probably have some kind of salad on the side. All has been tracked along with my one Lindor truffle.
I got in a nice walk yesterday while listening to a podcast called Dolly Parton's America. Quite interesting and entertaining! I am looking forward to another episode during today's walk. I am building up some activity points to help cover dinner tomorrow night. DD2 will join us for dinner at an Italian restaurant before we go to little theatre. The scale is slowly moving downward and I don't want to mess that up, even though the sodium in restaurant food usually has an unwanted effect on the scale. I'm trying to enjoy life and not obsess about the scale number, while staying OP as much as possible. Nothing much on the agenda today other than choir practice tonight.
Sue - A dress for $4!!! You are quite the bargain hunter. Your dinner sounded delicious to me, too.
Ann - Hope all goes well at the doctor. Happy shopping!
Judy - I know well the angst of worrying about a daughter living far away. I think she is wise to not combine the two surgeries. What her doctor says about PT makes a lot of sense. A conservative approach will still give her the option for surgery later if this treatment doesn't work.
Time for that walk!
P.S. Please say a prayer for DGS. The doctor confirmed yesterday that he has "walking pneumonia". No fever, but severe congestion in his lungs. He will miss the final cross-country meet of the season this weekend. ;(

Pam prayers going out for DGS. So sorry that he has to miss the final cross-country meet of the season. Your daily meals sound delish. I always wake up hungry for breakfast and have it within an hour of getting up. Enjoy walking in your perfect weather I to try not to obsess too much about what the wii tells me each morning. I mainly go by my monthly weight but I'm so in the habit of weighing in daily that it's hard to break. The scale in downward motion is always appreciated LOL. Well, we went to our PCP. My neck is fine. She feels that I have a slight sprain and said give it awhile. If it's still not good to call her back. Carl, on the other hand needs to have another ultra sound on his groin area for the urologist. He goes tomorrow for that screening and has his appointment with the urologist on Tuesday the 12. Prayers appreciated. I found nada at Marshall's. Nothing caught my eye. Time to relax a bit before we hit the pavement with miss LuLa.

Sue, I love the fiber one cereal. I will add that as a topping to my fat free Greek plain yogurt. Very tasty that way and I get the crunch that I so crave LOL. Should have taken you to Marshall's with me. I didn't find a thing on sale.

Hi all,
I love reading all your meals posted. It gives me lots of ideas.
We wound up having the black beans/rice and chicken sausage last night instead of the night before. I added garlic, onions and peppers and some of that Goya seasoning to it for a little kick. I think I will do more freezer diving to use up some cavatelli with pesto sauce for tonight. I have not felt like grocery shopping this week. We've had so much on our plates after the traveling to NJ and back to work, etc. I'll make enough cavatelli so that DH can have the leftovers tomorrow night when I am out at the cancer fundraiser. If it does snow (perish the thought!), I will skip going but am glad I gave a donation for my seat, etc. For lunch today, we took a good friend who is semi-retired and working with us two days a week out for her birthday. We went to Maury's, Ann. I splurged on a hot pastrami on marble rye - no cheese. I was so hungry that I ate it all, but it was not a huge sandwich - just right. I did not have breakfast so had some extra pts. I doubt I will be too hungry for dinner but will have a tad. I need to increase my F&V consumption and my water. Tomorrow another good friend who retired in August is coming back to town to take me out for a belated birthday to a Mexican place. I am thinking taco salad right now. I love the salsa as my dressing.
Pam, sorry about your DGS's pneumonia. That same thing happened to my daughter in high school. She qualified for a state meet and had to miss it due to pneumonia. Ugh! I remember the disappointment still. I hope Jude is better soon. I love his name, by the way! :-)
Sue, one cannot have too many warm down coats! I love my Lands End one and my Eddie Bauer and I have another that is good, too. I also love the Lands End barn coat for this time of year. Just right and lightweight but warm. I think you have one, too, as I recall.
Ann, good luck to Carl with the further testing. Yes, having a good surgeon is a gift indeed. I am glad my DD is waiting on the surgery. She has too much going on in her life to add this kind of stress and two complicated operations to the mix at once. I wish I were closer. It's hard not being near enough to help out.
Our little pooches went out last night and disappeared under our deck. Well, they came out COVERED in burrs. Ugh. And, they were both groomed on Sunday. It is frustrating. DH will have to clean out whatever is there. It took me about an hour to pick out the burrs and comb them out. They are very patient but what a giant pain. They have long hair and "feathers" on their ears and feet so it takes loads of combing and grooming. They are Cavaliers. Oh, Ann, we bought a new set of wide stairs for them. Daisy mastered them right away, but Doug is skittish. She can scamper up onto the bed now. Ha! They are spoiled.
I am very tired today. I had to do a home sleep study last night to re-qualify for the C-PAP even though I have had one for 12 years. I did not sleep well, and I am sure I snored a lot when I did. I dropped off the device at 7:30 AM and then headed to an eye exam in another town. I am having some vision trouble with my right eye. It's a cataract. It's not a big, but it is in exactly the wrong spot and causing a lot of blurriness. Rather than rush to surgery, I will try a new prescription for six months and then see how it goes. I love my eye doctor, too. Isn't it always something, though? Sheesh.
Have a good afternoon.

Well, my walk was interesting, to say the least. I got a couple blocks from home and got stopped by DSIS' VBF and her sister who were riding around the old neighborhood. I chatted with them for a while and got stopped a few steps later by a neighbor whose wife has Alzheimer's. I chatted with him for about 10 minutes. She is very agitated and her worst period is 1:00 AM - daylight. He is exhausted. I encouraged him to get a night sitter and to come and join our caregiver support group. Two of his daughters have come in the past, but he never has. It is not a healthy situation for either him or his wife right now. The constant agitation and movement is causing her to lose weight. So sad!
I finally got on my way, but got chased by a dog further on. I motioned to the apparent owner, who was smoking a cigarette, talking on her phone and not at all concerned that the dog was nipping at my heels. When I finally called to her to please take care of the dog and reminded her that there is a leash law. She got very snippy and said, "She just runs out the door, what do you want me to do?" Ummm...put a color on her and clip a leash to it before you open the door. Anyway, she chased her away from me so I could make my escape. On the way back, I decided to turn on the block before reaching their house. Not good enough. The dog spotted me and came running. I chased her off twice and then heard someone call her and quickly made my escape. I was SO furious! I have called the Village office many times to complain about dogs running loose. They have to send 3 warnings before anything can be done. I will be speaking to the mayor about this issue in the very near future. Anyway, a tension headache was starting, so I headed home. I did get my 3 activity points earned. I used to walk the cane field road for just this reason, but it was muddy when they harvested the field and the road is no more--just a bunch of muddy ruts. Guess I will have to stick to walking up and down my street over and over.
I don't know if I mentioned planning a lunch reunion for people who worked at the local welfare/food stamp/foster care office. I worked there for 17 years and made many friends over the years. The former administrator, her admin assistant and one of the former supervisors are getting up in age (80-90's) and failing in health, so I want to do this soon. So far, I have set a date (Nov. 21) and a place, started a face book group and contacted a local caterer. I have almost 30 positive responses, so I am very excited.
Judy - What a mess with long-haired dogs and burrs! Let's hope there's no repeat of that! I hope you get a better sleep tonight and that the new eye Rx works.
A funny story about Jude's name: He was born 2 months premature and they had not yet picked out any names. DSIL is somewhat dyslexic and insisted on a short name that he could both remember and spell. Everyone in the families had lots of suggestions that someone else always nixed. Jude was 2 days old and still no name. The doctor jokingly said when he came back again, that fine boy better have a name. I told the young couple that this was their child and they needed to sit down together, stop worrying about what names everyone else liked and choose something THEY wanted. Then I sat down with the phone book and started throwing out short names. "Jude" was what they liked and chose, along with "Bryant", his dad's middle name.
Ann - Prayers going up for Carl!

Judy OMG I am drooling over your sandwich Used to go there quite often when living in Worcester. Hard to stop at a half sandwich....especially from them. I also love salsa as a dressing. When I worked I would often take a baked potato and cheese stick and garnish it wish salsa on top. It was very filling. Sometimes I would take black beans to add to it. It is far too early for snow. I hope mother nature is listening LOL. Let's at least get through Thanksgiving without any of the white stuff blowing around! Good luck with your eye Rx. I don't blame you for not wanting to rush into surgery...and I agree, it's always something! Thanks for the good wishes and prayers for Carl. I shall keep y'all posted. Also what a nightmare on your poor fur babies!!!!! Y'all surely could have lived without all that drama added to the mix. Pam that just ticks me off that people let their dogs run wild! We have a woman that lives in our retirement community that does the same thing. Not to mention her dog IS a biter and has nipped at several people living here as well as delivery people. She's been reported several times and they gave her a warning...but to no avail! I guess some people feel that rules are NOT for them. So sorry that you had to deal with that! How wonderful of you to plan the reunion. Keep us posted as to how it turns out Also loved the story of how Jude was names. Thanks for sharing. I am now going to get jammified and read a bit. It gets dark so darn early that if feels like it's way later than it is. Sleep well!

Carl goes for his ultrasound today at 10:30. After that, no clue what the day will bring. I'm low on energy, so it won't be much.
