Merry Christmas!
I woke up late, expecting to see a few inches of snow. There might have been 126 flakes per square foot. Those that fell were super sized and went SPLAT!, leaving a lacy imprint. Every day is different!
We're spending a quiet lazy day. There may be a little more snow tonight.

I expected snow too, Sue but I didn't see any evidence that any had fallen during the night however it's looked all day like it was going to sow Ok I decided on the Cross afgan. It's a different one than I had thought I'd make before with all the granny squares. This one is done in rows and has a large cross in the center surrounded by another color then the same color as the cross for the outer part. then the pattern calls for the edging to be done in the same color that is on the same yarn color that's on the outside. Since you ladies are great at choosing colors for your quilts I thought I'd ask what three you thought would go together well for this. Here is the link and I had forgotten that they had it in several different colors...hmmm www.etsy.com/listing/655795623/vintage-crochet-pattern-holy-crossIt does take a lot of yarn... 35 ounces of the main color...the cross and outer portion, and 27oz of the color that will surround the cross and I did have to pay for the pattern but it's worth it. It's made with the brick stitch which is the same stitch I made their Christmas tree skirt with. Ds messaged and sent a picture of the kids on the trampoline that they bought for them with the money I sent

Was not sure I would get back here....but here I am.
Sue, your weather sounds unpredictable- hope that you and Dh had a nice day. Guess you will be dishwasher shopping soon?
CJ, yes they way that cable companies bundle their stations is criminal. Honestly, we all watch the same 10 channels- each person has 10 channels that are their favorites and then its a waste to pay for others. So sorry that you missed the movie you wanted to see. Did you have an otherwise pleasant day?
Ruth, yes you are going to see a lot of change over the next year. How will you and Dh split the year between residences? Love the afghan pattern, its simple and dramatic. I would key the color scheme off of their decor personally. My personal preference is toward earth tones. There is a large white field behind the cross, and I would avoid bright white for that because it shows dirt. I am thinking I guess of tan and brown, or shades of grey...but that is me and this is personal taste.
At one time or the other we saw all our kids. Busy day but a blessed one and it was wonderful to see everyone. Yes, I went to the 7 pm service last night, lots of music and I played with the church pianist both prelude and postlude music. Good service.... My friend seemed to like the Bible cover which I gave her last night. Guess its time to get back to my BOM and finish that for my next project. Ginny

Ginny, I was thinking the exact thing...that of earth tone ...and looked at tans and browns and also grey's. I definitely won't be using a bright white. I'm thinking the antique white they have in pound of love would be a good color and I even thought of a different color for that area.Maybe a dark brown for the cross and border and a light tan where they show white although I thought that the antique white might provide more contrast and therefore be preferable...I'm not sure.A charcoal color with light gray might be nice also.I have to check my yarn stash again and see if theres any of those combos that I already have enough of. I hate having to buy yet more yarn when I have a whole room full already.
Ginny, I'm glad you got to see all your family again today. It's just so great that you are all so close
I did forget to comment on the tv situation. Yes, both the sattelite companies and cable companies brag about how many channels they're giving you when actually a lot of those are channels that no one would ever watch or listen to. There are so many shopping channels for instance and a LOT of music channels. I know Directv charges an "area sport fee" whatever that is. I sure don't watch any sports except now and then football and only pro football not college games. I don't think there are even ten channels that I watch. And, as you said, CJ, they are always changing channels to one that you have to pay extra for. Mostly dh watches Fox News and we both watch a couple programs on the History channel. I watch one, sometimes two shows on Food network but that's about it. Dh watches more programs than I do.

Another thought regarding the afghan- Ruth, you could also make that border more than one color. If you had two browns, perhaps the outer border could be that, with a slightly lighter color inside. A way to use what you have on hand because you do not need as much of one color. And you are so right the antique white in POL is such a pretty color...I have made two baby afghans from that and loved it! I would key what colors are in the afghan from what DS and DDIL like in their home. That being said, I know Michaels runs some really good yarn sales this time of year, most other craft stores probably do also. Go with your gut regarding color. You have a good sense of what looks good and I am sure this will be a much loved and cherished afghan when done.

tom had ordered a yule cake from Linda's bakery. boy do they have a lot chocolate frosting on top to make it look like a yule log
part of my gifts almost made me fall of the fireplace hearth. Margie and Tom gave me a gift card to pickett fence quilt shop 60 miles from here.
Jeana and gang gave me a gift card to quilt peddler 77 miles from here.both for 50.00
not sure when we will go.I am giving Theresa a certificate. to quilt peddler.her dd lives 35 miles from the quilt shop. some how I want to be there at the same time they go. not sure how that will work out. Theresa likes it to be her and her at times.
RUTH I was thinking a back ground in blue or yellow. blue for sky o yellow for sun.cross would be up to you. maybe antique white or a nor beige. then a boarder in a rainbow yarn type color.phyl

Phyl, it sounds as if you had a wonderful Christmas and that you received some really useful gifts! Thanks to you and Ginny for the suggestions on colors. The colors representing the sun and the sky are really good suggestions.
We did get a good bit of snow after it finally started snowing yesterday in the late afternoon. It is still very cloud covered here but for a few minutes the sun did peak out and it looks like it's going to peak again in a second. And no wind!!! I was really getting tired of hearing the sound of blasting wind that went on for days and days.
As for crafting, well most of my crafting time yesterday was used for finding that pattern and thinking about the colors. I did start a little boy hat with a dino crocheted into it.You start with the brim and I haven't even finished that yet. Those brims take a lot of time. The day before I made a hat that I'll take with me to the granddaughters.
The other day the neighbor brought over some of the pie he had made...apple with raisins in it.He said a whole cup of sugar. He told me about all the cookies and things he's made and how out of control his blood sugar is. Meanwhile my dh is eating walnut tarts the size of cupcakes and his diabetes stays under control. The neighbor used to be careful of what he ate but I guess he's given up on that. Diabetes is an intersting condition. Some can eat poorly and still maintain a good A1c while others work hard to eat exactly as they should and still end up on insulin and still have high numbers

Hello Crafters - Sounds like everyone had a good holiday I'm glad to hear that. Ruth - That cross afghan is beautiful, I hope you can make one. There are so many color choices. The ones with just 2 colors are pretty, but the first thought that came to me would be to use a variegated thread for the outer border, then a cream or antique white center and a matching color (one from the variegated thread) as the cross. I'll be interested to hear what you decide on. I've been wanting to make a quilt with a cross for several years. I've saved bunches of pictures and looked at patterns but just haven't made it. I did get all the fabric cleared off my work table in my sewing room and just have a few patterns to store away in the binder I keep them in. Then I need to make up a list of unfinished projects that I'd really like to finish. Maybe I can try to finish one each month next year - I don't think I have 12 projects started but I'm sure I can come up with 12 projects to work on I went out to lunch today with some longtime friends. They come back to the area every Christmas and we try to get together. It was nice to see them and visit. I also ran a few errands while I was out. The weather was nice - sunny and in the 50s. Take care everyone!

CJ, how wonderful it is to see old friends again. I know you had a good time. I think it's a great plan to work on finishing things each month, on project at a time. I have at least 6 baby blankets that need border and/or edgings put on so I should do that also. Now that your table is all cleared off you'll have space to do that finishing work. Thank you for the suggestion on the colors. Now you have me thinking about an alternate way of doing the afgan that will make it easier. The pattern is done in rows which means that when you get to the cross part you're going to have to be connected to 4 or 5 skeins of yarn at a time. I think what I'll do is just do the middle part of the pattern that way (in rows) then do the outside border or borders as they instruct (doing it around the part just finished..that middle part) for edging, only it will end up being a wide edging which it seems to me she should have made the pattern that way herself. Doing it that way just occurred to me so thank you for inspiring me to stop and think that out. I'm going to go write it out that way now

Good morning!
Phyl, sounds like you had a very very nice Christmas and that everyone knows that you love to quilt. Now nice is that and what a blessing. Sounds like some fun road trips are in your future, to use up those thoughtful gift cards. The Olive Garden salad sounds wonderful- it is absolutely one of the best reasons to dine there!
Ruth, I have heard of that too- some who can eat almost whatever they like and their blood sugar levels and A1C are not all that bad, and then there are others who cannot make a mistake without seeing an adverse effect on their counts. Makes no sense....but each human body sure is unique. Happy to hear that the wind finally calmed and you could enjoy a somewhat quiet weather day. I am sure the winters in Indiana are quite different.
CJ- how lovely that you were able to meet with your friends! What a nice way to celebrate the holidays, spending time with these individuals. Your idea of getting a UFO completed each month is a great one, now we all know you here and even if you do not have 12 UFO’s you will manage to find something great to make to qualify and keep yourself busy. Cleaning your craft table is a nice fresh start for a new year. Good idea for sure!
Went for a long walk with my friend yesterday, then came back and tried to find a hotel for our trip to Pa in April. We were looking for the same hotel we stayed at 5 years ago, and after a lot of searching think we finally found it. Its a really nice place, and set off the road quite a distance....so you hear less traffic and truck noise. My crafting was just to get my pillowcase out of the closet, ready for me to work on whenever. I had put it away with all the sewing I had been doing.

OH my goodness... I love how she makes those blocks!! Thank you for posting that Ginny. Yes I'm sure quilting as addicting as is crochet. I may sometime do some small quilted things but I'll still mostly stick to crochet. One of the reasons is that I already know how and second is that I have so much yarn that I need to have an additional lifetime to use it all. Ginny I did see that Micheals is having a sale. They not only are having a sale but you get an additional 20% off even sale items... usually their percent off and coupons doesn't apply to sale items. This time it does. So I went there looking for pound of love/. It's over $8 at Joann'son sale and no additional discount and with sale and discount only $5.59 at Michaels and free shipping when you spend over $45. I did see that they have one of their yarns on sale for $1.99 then the twenty percent but I didn't buy any of that. Charisma I think it was. I did get a bunch of pound of love. Sadly the light gray was out of stock.
Just got done with a cooking marathon and cleaned the kitchen up but I need to do a little bit more cleaning. Dh made me a nice fire in the woodstove so it's nice and warm in here between the fire and the oven.
While I was washing dishes I saw a car pull up into the driveway.People came to the door and enthusiastically said hi and were ready to step inside then said oh I thought this was the Whitley's. Do you know the Whitleys... Nope I don't know anyone by that name.I don't know of anyone by that name living in this neighborhood so I think they were completely lost.
Ok back to finish up cleaning then I'll sit and enjoy the fire and crochet or look at my yarn again and work on deciding what my colors are going to be for the afgan. I'm so undecided. You all gave me such good suggestions.

that darned turnstile quilt might very well be in my future. Just what i needed, and excuse to make another quilt. Ha ha ha. Our plans for this evening are postponed. My friends mother in law was taken to the hospital for what appears to be a minor stroke. They are waiting to admit her to the hospital. So perhaps we will go tomorrow night. The weather will also be good then too.
Ruth, what did you make in todays cooking marathon?? Glad you enjoyed the quilting video- my online quilting buddy (who I figure is in her early 70’s) figures that she has enough fabric in her home to have her making quilts until she is 150. And you, Ruth, will be crochetting then too. Pretty funny. Anyway, so sorry that they did not have the POL in the grey you wanted. Is there a Micheals near you that has some in stock? What color grey did you want? Oddly enough, I checked out Joanns as they have a yarn sale too. Dd will be finding out in 4 weeks the gender of the baby, and I will need to get yarn then for an afghan. I snooped around at colors....found some pretty ones. Lets see what the baby’s gender is. Wonder who the Whitelys are and where they live??? Interesting...I might be tempted to figure out who they were and how close they were to your house. I tend to have a slightly suspicious personality.
So I guess I will be embroidering tonight. Tomorrow Dd comes over and dh wants to walk before she gets here.
Have a good night all G

Yes the turnstile quilt seems to be a good thing to add to your list of projects. And sometimes an unexpected postponement of some planned outing is a good thing. Now you can work on your embroidery. Maybe when I get to Indiana I can walk outdoors again. It's hard to do here because of the awful wind. When the temp warms up you can pretty much be assured that it's going to start blowing horribly. Well since I have to wait for my yarn to get here to start the afgan I'm working on a hat. Little boy dino hat for the two youngest grandboys and maybe the two great grandboys also. this is the link mariasbluecrayon.com/2018/12/crochet-dinosaur-hat-for-kids-free.htmlAs you see she has dinos all the way around but I'm only putting on one dino. I'm not really into getting all that yarn all twisted up that is involved when you try to put multiple pictures into a crocheted item. It's work trying to make my own graph with only the one but it's worth it to not have to fight yarn too much.
