good evening, we got the email today.Don's sister died in the hospital the night of the 26th. Russ said she had alot of things wrong with her and they all came together. now what he meant for sure I do not know.
she will be creamated.
the kids are going to plan when they can all get together. so it could be sometime in January.which could make traveling hard for us to go.
don's brother Dick that is 90 will have to have on of his kids drive him.
David does not travel the highway in the winter.use to be a truck driver.Jim will not leave the house if it is to cold. so it could be just us if we go.
maybe the kids will have it in march.who knows.they live all over plus the plus the grown grand kids.

Phyl, my sincere condolences on the passing of Don’s sister....so glad that you and Don got to visit with her a short while ago. I agree that its best to delay the service until its more convenient for all, but winter sure makes that a challenge. Was Don’s sister younger or older than him? ginny

Phyl, my condolences also to Don on the passing of his sister and of course to you too. When sad things happen to our hubbies, we're sad too. Just another one of the bad things that happen in our elder years...people keep leaving us.It sounded like you didn't get to visit with her while on your trip. Is that correct? There is one good thing about that... Don can remember her as she was before she got so sick.

well I finished the dino hat. The yarn I used didn't have enough constrast so the dino doesn't show up well. Not in my house anyway. We don't have good lighting. It also came out small. The pattern writer showed her son wearing it and he looks like he's abut 5 or 6 but mine is probably the size for a one year old. I used the same yarn and hook size and I don't crochet tight. I'll just make another and make it larger and put this one in the donate bag. Some small child will like it.
I hope you all are having a good weekend (well I'm sure Don is not) I'm going to go do a little work now

Hello Crafters Phyl - I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of Don's sister. I'm glad you were able to go and see her and I hope the family will have the memorial service at a time when most of the family can attend. Ginny - I liked that quilt on the MSQC weekly tutorial too, it would be pretty with many different fabrics. Ruth - That dinosaur hat is cute, I'm glad you finished one but sorry it came out small. Will you make another larger one now? Sue and Meg - Hope you are getting some crafting in. It's a really mild day here - high 60s and sunny but getting cloudy. We're supposed to have rain tomorrow and Monday. I spent time earlier today doing some online business with my checking accounts, savings accounts and other business accounts. It's such a lot of work and very draining for me, but at least it's done. I made a list of the other things I still need to do - set up some appointments and calling some people. I also finished clearing off the rest of my work table in my sewing room. I had printed off some embroidery and quilt patterns, so I filed those away. I'd really like to work on some embroidery so I pulled a piece out that I had started. It's one of those pre-printed cross stitch kits with I think 6 large blocks. When I finish them I'd sash them together with fabric and then there are markings on the blocks for where you can quilt it. I also still want to finish hand quilting that piece from the October class. Hopefully I can get a few of these things done. Take care everyone!

Phyl, I am very sorry to hear that Don's sister has passed away. Losing ones siblings can be difficult and of course over the holidays makes it more difficult.
I find that this is a bitter sweet time of year as we celebrate Christmas I remember all the people I knew and loved who are no longer with us. I am sure you all experience the same thoughts. I do hope you all have had enjoyable Christmas. We started by having dinner on Christmas Eve and had DD home. Christmas morning we opened gifts and then DGD and Devin went off to spend the day with friends. DS and I had a very quiet day which I thoroughly enjoyed.
I have been knitting a cap which I finished and I have just started another one. Good way to use up left over yarn. I would like to knit some more caps and scarves to send to Loves & Fishes in down town Sacramento where the homeless can go for a hot meal every day. I am a little tired of crocheting afghans at the moment.
Ginny, we do get winter here and December and January are usually our coldest months. We do not get snow here in the Sacramento Valley though some years we get freezing temps and we have to watch out for burst pipes. This year I don't think we have had freezing temps at night so far. I hope that you and all your family are still enjoying the Christmas season. I hope you and your DH enjoy your trip to Lancaster and you get to visit the shops while you are there. Be careful on the roads
I have eaten too many sweets and I really need to get back on track.
cj, the caps and scarves I knit will go to Loves & Fishes to be given to the homeless. I hope you had an enjoyable Christmas. I did watch a lot of Hallmark movies. I do like to watch British movies and of course their sense of humor is a wee bit difficult to follow sometimes. But they can be very funny. I will have to give Turner Classics a try.
Ruth, I am glad you were able to spend time with some of your family from out of town. That's what I miss. My relatives are too far away. But I am quite good at filling my time and I am quite content.
Now I am off to watch TV or read. You all have a good evening and stay warm.

Phyl, even though she was Don's sister I'm sure you got to know her well and feel the loss also so I'm not surprised that you've been thinking of her all day. Sorry your pj's were too tight and now that you got the larger size they are too large. Better too large than too small because in pj's the legs can be shortened and waist taken in and no one will even see that you did it.
Meg, we had a quiet Christmas here too since we celebrated on Monday. I bet Devin had a great Christmas. Even as children get older they look forward to Christmas with excitement. Yes I think that no matter where a person lives there are things we can make for them. I like doing hats too because they don't take long even when you make the fancier ones and you can get a lot of them done in a short time. I keep thinking about your knitted hats because my dh would really like me to make him another like the knitted one I made him 11 years ago but I seem to have lost my ability to get the first row on the circular needles correctly. Back then I made a lot of knitted hats that way for Caps for Kidss and didn't have any problem. I never could knit with the double pointed needles that take 4 or 5 needles. The one I made for dh was made holding two worsted weight strands of yarn together and using apretty big circular needle but I can't remember the size of the needles nor the number of stitches I cast on for his head size. Funny thing is I found it really easy to do cables...not on hats but on flat things.
How have you been feeling, Meg. Have you had to have iron infusions? Are your eyes doing ok?

Blessed Sunday all.
Phyl, so sorry that I messed up your most recent trip and confused it n my mind thinking it was to see Mona. Of course she will be on your mind now as you remember her and memories of her over the years. Will keep you and Don in prayer- she was a part of your life also and Don might need strength and compassion from you as he faces that his sister is gone.

Now somehow I hit a button and at least the post went through instead of being lost....go figure. Anyway, Phyl, glad you were able to exchange the pj’s. Hemming up the pants should be an easy task for you.
Ruth, that indeed stinks that the Dino hat came out so small. But not all directions are good or well enough written so that the concept is easily followed by others. Sometimes you wonder what the writer was thinking. I just had that issue with the Bible cover...Anyway I am glad that you are able to salvage the hat and am sure that the next one will be fine. You seem to have a knack for adapting patterns and making them work.
CJ- yes this milder weather has been pleasant and easy to take...good for you making a list of what needs to be accomplished. Even the act of having a list is good so that should you remember “just one more thing” you can add it to that list and know you will get it done. Funny how all this online business we do seems to take a lot of time. Of course it took time when we had to go to the bank or wait for paper statements to arrive etc...but now with some financial entities asking for new passwords every three months or two step verification it just seems much less easier than it used to be. Glad you got that done- and are set up for next week making phone calls and appointments. Love the idea of the cross stitch panels. Have you ever done counted cross stitch? I have, but no longer have the patience for it and am very happy with stamped cross stitch.
Meg-Thanks for the climate info for your area. I know you are in California, but also know its a huge state with many different climate zones. Think its nice that you do get a winter, it provides a nice break from summer heat. Thinking you have a great idea to make hats and scarves for Loves and Fishes. Afghans are such lovely projects but its also nice having smaller projects to work on. Yes, Turner Classics have some great movies on - good viewing. Hope you are able to get that on your cable system.
Speaking of viewing, Dh actually discovered Poldark- so we are DVRing that. Of course we are only in season 2 so we can catch up by renting other seasons from the library.Glad Dh found it, it gives us something we can both watch. Our taste in TV viewing is not always the same.
Sue- how are you doing? I figure you will be heading out to find a new dishwasher soon. Hope you and your husband are over your colds.
We ended up going out to dinner and the Christmas light show with our friends last night. The light show’s last night is tonight, but when we got there at 6 pm they were turning people away. So we went for dinner, then the light show had emptied out enough for us to walk through. Its so pretty- they decorate the county arboretum with a mile long stretch of lights and pretty displays. It was not too cold either and a pleasant evening.
No crafting yesterday but I am hoping to get back into it today after church. Ginny

So far my crafting today is looking at the Herrscheners catalog- did not see anything that called my name loudly so I will just recycle it and onto other projects. Right now we are watching a football game. Oh, and Ruth, who likes to keep up with the Bills, I am NOT a Jets fan- they played the Bills today.
I know I have to get back to my BOM and the final corners and binding. Perhaps I will get the directions out for that, and start thinking about working on that. I do need to finish that before I have to start the baby afghan. On the Herrscheners web site I looked at yarn colors...just to get ideas. I have 8 weeks before I will know if this little one is a boy or a girl. Then I will have to get busy with a crochet hook.
Some day this week I am heading up to Joanns and possibly Hobby lobby or even quilters attic with my friend. She needs help finding a fabric to match other fabrics she has for a quilt for her latest DGS. Got a lot of gift cards for Joanns, one for Hobby Lobby and one for QA. No matter what I can have fun and get something I like. Believe me I do not need any more projects, but its always fun to dream.
Gonna go find those final quilt directions. Hard to believe tomorrow is Monday already. G

Ginny, I know what you mean about the craft supplies. Dh was looking online for something and saw yarn and was going to get some for me. He is very supportive in that respect and doesn't complain about all my yarn but he does laugh when I mention getting more. I told him that I really do have enough yarn but then he told me the prices and well I can't resist a good bargain plus he's getting 6% more off with discover card. The only problem I have with my yarn is that everytime I want to make something I don't have the colors I want to use or else the weight of yarn that I want to use. However for $1.96 then 6% more off you can't beat that price. It's RHSS in white and then he also got me Red Heart Hometown in San Diego navy. I actually would love the Little Rock granite color but it costs more so I'll wait for it to be on sale.
Ginny, have you picked out a pattern yet for your baby blanket? Have you decided what yarn you're going to use. I know that you're waiting to make color choice based on boy or girl. It sounds like it's a good idea to complete the BOM. Then won't all your projects be caught up...well except the embroidery on the pillow cases and you're working on those too. With I could say all mine are caught up. I have way too many unfinished things sitting around me.

Phyl- prayers that your chiropractor appointment goes well tomorrow.
Ruth, the BOM was so costly to make and so much effort that I really Dow it to myself and Dh to finish it. the pillow cases are great for car rides and warmer weather when I do not want something big and heavy on my lap. Sounds like you got a great deal on the yarn! I am taking your advice and will make the baby afghan in a different color than I did for DGD#2, but use the same pattern- which I love.
Have a good night all G
