Its always a bit of a shock to the system when I see that we will be in the month of January soon. Time sure does march on- whether we like it or not. CJ- Love that 20 in 2020 idea....and if that becomes a good motivator for you that is wonderful! Think most of us have been to enough rodeos to know that New Years resolution lists are problematic, but setting a nice goal for yourself like that is good. And the fact that the year will remind you of it automatically is even better. Adding another “row” (I know its circular) of hand stitching is such a nice idea and I bet will look great. You have always mentioned an affinity to hand quilting- think you took 2 classes in it- and I bet you are very good at it. Any idea what you will do with that project when you are done? And its funny, some of the high priced stuff that quilt shops sells is just that- stuff. I have a few items that I bought from Joanns (quilting aids) that are better than what I saw at the quilt shop. Just last night I checked out a triangle ruler that the quilt shop is recommending for the corner blocks of my BOM- and found that Joanns has something similar and most likely cheaper. Ruth, I have never seen those ombré yarns, just checked them out online. So pretty!! RH makes ombré in so many different color themes also. Bet they work up beautifully into hats or whatever project you are working on. I used a RH yarn for a ripple afghan years ago, but it was not an ombré, but a variegated. Got the yarn at Walmart. And IMO it is magnificent- a medium moss green, rust and white variegated which was striking when in large areas like you would see in a ripple afghan. Don’t sell yourself short with your microwave either....mine does a lot of stuff that I have no idea how to use. No one else in the house does either. But yet we use it daily, just not using all the bells and whistles that I guess it is capable of. Last night I did read through the directions for the corner blocks for my BOM. Hope I can muddle through them ok without help from my friend (who would be happy to assist) or by calling the shop. Then of course the decision on how to quilt this thing. Bet you are all tired of reading about this too....I have 3 quilt projects waiting in the wings here, all of which I will quilt myself (one is quilt as you go, so that will be easy). But with the expense of the fabric I put into this I am really really tempted to take this to a long armer so that I do not butcher it. I will most likely call someone in a week or so (actually have the name of someone already) to see how far along with preparation she would want the quilt. Of course sending it out to MSQ to have them quilt it for me is also an option. OK, guess I have babbled enough for this am. Ginny

Ginny, no we are absolutely not tired of hearing about your project at all. If anything everyone would be really tired of hearing about my crocheting projects. Sending it out to be quilted sounds like a good plan. Quilting something yoursef that involves costly fabrics if probably not a good idea unless you are a super expert and have all the equipment to do it. and putting it on one of those really large frames and doing it by hand would take years ...well you could set up a quilting bee and have all kinds of strangers come to your house and sit and quilt like they used to do in the old days hahaha
Well today so far I've done a little straightening up and might do more once dh is up from his nap. I don't like to do noisey things while he's sleeping even though he assures me it won't bother him but how can it not. I'm also going to make him some spaghetti sauce but the kitchen is right over the bedroom so don't want to walk around a lot over his head.
Ginny, that ombre yarn doesn't look like much just on the skein and it has long color changes but when you make something that's larger or something that uses a lot of yarn such as the waffle stitch it comes out very pretty. Like the variegated you mentioned. In the fall I came across som variegated yarn in my stash and that was what I called my ugly yarn that I mentioned here and it was really pretty once made into something.
Well Being that it's after noon here I guess I shouold go and have breakfast. I get involved in things and forget.See you all later.

Hello Crafters Ruth - I love ombre things, so I'm sure that yarn is pretty. Ombre quilting fabrics have been very popular the last few years too. Ginny - I hope you can figure out the directions for the corner BOM, I'm sure you'll be able to do it. It will be nice when you get this quilt done, it's so pretty. I have a few really nice quilt tops using expensive fabrics that took a lot of time and I'd like to get them done by a longarmer too, so I think you are smart to consider that. I wish I had a friend, or someone I trusted, that had a long arm, because I'd be glad to pay to get my tops quilted. But the few I've had done at the quilt shop didn't come out that great and now I'm hesitant to have someone else quilt my tops. I went out today and ran a few errands, so that way I can stay home on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. I try to stay off the road on the holidays, since people seem to drive crazier than they normally do I didn't get back to my hand quilting yesterday. I did print off my list of projects and fabrics I have on hand to see if I can come up with a list of those I'd like to work on next year. Take care everyone!

Good evening,
Ruth, did you ever get to make that spaghetti sauce for Dh? Smells great when its simmering....and I give you I credit for making your own sauce. My Dh declared my homemade sauce not worth the effort many years ago, and I get his favorite brand in a jar when its on sale. Getting some areas straightened up is a good thing- any bit of organization you can gain in the next month will be of benefit to you. Thanks for the heads up on the ombré yarns...gotta see if I end up using ombré for the baby quilt or something else. And me? Hand quilting is not something I would do on a large project. I will machine stipple the two quilts I have here (not my BOM) when I get to them- but the financial investment in those is not as large as this. I am terrified of ruining this and will send it out.
CJ- great that you now have a list of what you want to accomplish. Nice as it gives you something you can look at to help evaluate what you want to work on when. I am sure that will help. As far as using a long armer- first I went to MSQ and theoretically put in the dimensions of my quilt to see how much they would charge. I used that as a starting number- and of course would have to pay to ship the quilt and insure the shipment too. The name of the woman I got for a long arm locally I got from the quilt shop. I did email her this afternoon and so far, so good. I will have to meet with her before I hand my quilt over to her....and I do want to see her work before I do that. If I were you I would see if there is a quilt guild nearby, or even ask at the amish market if they know of a long armer nearby. You put a lot of love and hard work into your quilt tops...and deserve to have them finished in a quality manner. If you cannot find anyone locally, check out MSQ. Their long arm service was only a little bit more expensive than the woman I will be communicating with.
Got all the fabric cut for the corner blocks. Am heading up to Joanns tomorrow am, I need to get more batting and possibly a triangle template, which I do not need but it will help with these corner blocks. My friend is going up with me and we should be home before 1 pm, long before the New Years Eve lunacy begins.

So I heard back from the long armer- seems like she gets a fair amount of business from the quilt shop. Perhaps will see if I can find someone closer to my home who works with or is in the local guild. I might ask the small LQS for her recommendation too... Today will hopefully sub cut the squares I cut yesterday and begin to work my way through the project. Its a little challenging as I was out of this mode for a few months, but I am anxious to finish it.
Anyone have plans for NYE??? Somehow, I do not think any of us are planning on being at Times Square. Ha ha ha. I would not be there even if you paid me. G

good morning, happy new year's eve,
we will go to mass tonight and Outback for dinner.our reservation is for 6 pm.I did call ahead.
we will probably be home at the latest by 8pm.
years ago it use to be fun.dances and dinner. we use to go with friends to the moose lodge dinner and and dances.
now it seems to be more of a bar scene.we have not been into that for years. seems the generations under us think things are more about drinking then dealing with real life.
I am going to be in my playpen for awhile. either cleaning or cutting patterns out so if I go to a retreat this year I will not ponder what to take.
also I have a list of about 30 projects to finish in 2020. these are unfinished projects. have some big ones to do.least that is my goal.
well you girls lived in our area we have several longarm places.
2 shops her,2 out of town and several quilters who do longarm as a business.
you do send your quilts out be sure to have it insured. also make sure the person insures it being sent back and know the tracking number and who the deliverly people are.
dropped of a chicken casserole dish at Nita's and Dick's.she is really hurting bad.also her balance is getting bad. yet she won't slow down. they say it is the ciatic nerve. has to be the nerve somewhere in there along with other stuff.
wish I could get her to try my pt guy.
can't make people do what they don't want to do.I do see this one day bringing her down to the floor .then maybe she will listen or they will really figure out what is wrong.
have a good day. phyl

Happy new year to you and Don, Phyl! Glad you made a reservation for outback, I have only been there 2 or 3 times, and it always seems to be packed. So very sweet of you to take some food to Nita. I know she has been uncomfortable for a long time and that you were concerned about going on retreat with her. You are absolutely right, she will only go for help when she becomes truly desparate, and until then, guess she will just deal with her pain as best she can. My mom had sciatica, and I know its very painful indeed. Thanks for the great advice on mailing my quilt. I will most likely use a local long armer and not mail to MSQ. But its still good to know the process. MSQ recommends insuring the quilt to mail it too. Yeah, I do not do bars or anything like that- have not for many many years. I used to date a young man who got sick every NYE, and I had to drive him home year after year. Needless to say I did not marry him-he just could not handle the whole idea of a party to celebrate the beginning of a new year. Its really no big thing, is it? The year is just a number.
Got my batting at Joanns, %65 off. Good deal for a king sized batting! Also had to pick up more best press.
BBL to see who checks in G

Hello Crafters - Happy New Year's Eve to all of you Ginny - That was a good deal on batting, especially since you needed a large piece. I like that Best Press too. You asked me a few things that I didn't answer (I always forget to once I'm typing out my post ). I have done counted cross stitch but not for many years. I have one piece (the lighthouses of the Outer Banks NC) that I would love to finish. I'm just going to make my hand quilted piece I've been working on as a small quilt. Phyl - Hope you enjoy your meal out tonight and get back home safely. Ruth, Meg, and Sue - Hope you are all well and got in some crafting. It was sunny here today but cooler. I think it's supposed to be the same tomorrow. I'm just glad I didn't have to go out today and won't need to go out tomorrow. I finished the hand quilting on the piece I started in the class in October. I just need to trim it - I think it will end up about 12 inches square and then it will be ready for binding. I used one of those wash out blue markers on this and was worried it wouldn't come out, especially after being on there for 2 months, but it came out fine. My quilting stitches aren't that great, but I enjoyed trying a few different ways to hand quilt. What I've found is that I don't work well with using a frame - my stitches are not even or straight. But when I just hold the piece in my hand and quilt my stitches are a lot better. Tonight I have a book I want to finish, since it's Christmas themed. That will finish up all the Christmas themed books for this year and I have 3 other books ready to read in the new year. Hope everyone has a great evening and a wonderful year in 2020

This afternoon I took hb to the dentist. While he was there I went to the appliance store and bought my new dishwasher. The guy who is going to install it has already picked it up and is going to install it tomorrow. Too funny! I thought I was going to have to wait until next week! The installer is a contractor most of the time. Winter is a little slow. Tomorrow? Well, I guess he's a little bored! No extra charge.
If he's a contractor, maybe he has the skills to fix a few other things!

Happy New year to all of you. As Ginny said, it's just a number on a calendar and no big deal to me either. When I was working I always worked on NYE and tried to get home in time to be with my family at midnight. We haven't celebrated New Year's eve in years but many years we watched the ball fall on tv and may or may not tonight depending on if dh is too tired to be awake at that time.
Ginny, I'm glad you were able to get a good deal on batting and also have a plan for getting your quilt quilted.
CJ, I think I would do better doing cross stitch just holding the fabric in my hand too. I never was fond of embroidery hoops so quilting probably would be the same. I never did counted cross stitch but did regular cross stitch that my grandmother taught me how to do.
Phyl your friend sounds just like my dh. He refuses to go to PT or a chiro also so he just suffers the pain and complains about the pain.
During the night the wind was HORRIBLE. It didn't even get too cold but with the wind the pipes froze but luckily dh was up and decided to check before he came to bed and was able to use the hair dryer and thaw them. When I got up I absolutely could not believe the wind.I know I've mentioned before how bad the wind can get here and earlier this winter mentioned it was worse than it ever had been. Well this morning it was even worse than that. Ive never seen wind this bad except on tv when those weather people are standing outside in a hurricane.DH had our new garbage bin tied to a hook in the side of the house but he went outside for something and found that the garbage bin had broken the rope and blown away and he couldn't find it anywhere. I knnow that I would never have been able to stand up out there. It's calmer now than it was but still bad
Then somehow the FedEx delivery made it here and dh's laptop arrived. He's never had a laptop as he's like CJ and prefers a desktop. I set it up for him while he sat here a nervous wreck. These things always cause him to be stressed.
So now I'm going to go back to reading my book...the newest by Robin Cook. I have always loved his books but even more now that he had the series going with Laurie Montgomery and Jack Stapleton who are husband and wife and are both medical examiners The language in this one leaves a lot to be desired but the vulgar language is all by a character introduced in this particular book and both Laurie and Jack have told her how they feel about vugarity and that she should refrain from using it in their presence.

CJ- congrats on finishing the sampler project you made at class. Glad you tried some new stitches too- or new ways to hand quilt. That is why we take these classes right? I am sure it looks great, and you are being hard on yourself. Keep finding good projects to practice on!! Hope you finish your book tonight.
Sue, wow, now that is service- getting the new dishwasher tomorrow. Best of luck with it, and I hope its a great appliance for you.
Ruth, I hope not to be awake for the ball drop. I find this whole night a bit silly....and cannot believe that there are those who will stand out in any horrible weather to watch a crystal ball descend. Good to hear that you have a good book to read. Enjoy! Glad to hear that Dh’s new laptop arrived- hope he likes it and gets used to it quickly. Laptop/desktop each has its benefit, its all personal taste.
Have a good night all, see you next year. Ginny

I think that it was about 5 or 6 years ago that my brother and sister in law went to NY and Times Square for the New year's festivities. They had to stand inside the fence that was put up for 12 hours and no porta potties or anything. I don't know if they still do things that way on NYE but I think that was the first year that were that strict. There were a lot of other rules too which I can't remember but for sure I would never, ever do that. I wouldn't want to be around that many people for one thing and standing in the cold all that time with no br's would not be my idea of fun. I don't think they let you take in food or water either but I'm not sure of that Sue I'd bet that man could do a lot of things that you probably could use in your own home as well as your properties. Keep his phone number near. Ginny, I'm always awake at midnight every night so this is nothing new for me.And dh has Fox news on so we'll see the ball drop at 10pm. Had to consult my computer expert (my dear son) because dh's laptop has been telling him to activate windows10 but win10 is already working. Looked that up and they said there could be a security risk if you don't do the activation. I would have done it but the sticker with the product key is scratched and some of the numbers are missing. My computer expert said that it's no big deal that they only thing that will happen is they will keep nagging you to activate a new one but that if we really want a product key he could get us one so we decided to just use the one that's on there. It's for sure not a pirated version which is what Microsoft is concerned with because they understandably want people to use their genuine products but ds said we don't have a pirated version so not to worry. Dh said he can live with them naggin him (it's just small messages at the side of the screen) I offered to trade him laptops . He didn't go for that.
