Happy New Year all!!
Guess we will have to get used to writing 2020 on our checks now. My big downfall and I do end up messing up a check or two early in the year.
Meg, so sorry that your long post vaporized. Happens to all of us and its so frustrating. Perhaps you will be able to find the post...with all the stuff that these wonderful electronics can do you would think that they could temporarily save what we were working on so that the lost posts were findable. Anyway, we look forward to hearing from you when you stop in.
Ruth, so being that you were the only one up, how was the ball drop? Ha ha ha. What I have heard about the celebration at TImes square is that once you enter, you are stuck there until the police let you out. So for many, that means being there for over 12 hours....I have heard that some go there wearing disposable underwear as they know they will have no access to rest rooms. Not sure of the logic of why anyone would go there, but I guess some would find that exciting. And some years (this one not so much) its pathetically cold on NYE- so standing in the cold for hours to listen to poor entertainment and watch a crystal ball descend does not sound like fun. Boy am I a party pooper or what? So glad that your computer expert (ha ha ha) was able to assist Dh with his new laptop. I would imagine that the laptop will be more portable for Dh and easier to take with you to Indiana. I laugh when you refer to Ds as your “computer expert”. My friend’s son is a plumber, and there are several sort of small things in her home that she needs him to straighten out for her. But like you, she will refer to the situation as something that “needs a plumber”- knowing darned well that her plumber is very busy and does not usually get to his mom’s house to work unless its an emergency. Its pretty funny.
Dh is up...think I am going to sub cut some of those squares I cut the other day and get ready to sew them together to make the corner blocks. Keep your fingers crossed that I do not mess this up.

Good morning Ginny and all. It's still prettywindy here today but we're going to go drive around and see if we can find our garbage bin.
I didn't do any crafting yesterday at all. I spent my time reading that book. It was very good. I like to take my time reading so that I can prolong the enjoyment of the book but that one was so interesting that I finished it in a day and returned it I'm sure making the next person on the hold list happy.
I stopped in the middle here and went out and found the garbage bin which has been damaged by being blown about a quarter mile down the street but it will still work. Then did some kitchen cleaning then to help dh pick up the garbage that got dumped out of the bin when the wind got it.
Now I'm going to write a bunch of letters to the few people that I still keep in touch with that I didn't send Christmas cards to (didn't send any) Then it will be crocheting the rest of the day.

Hello Crafters - HAPPY NEW YEAR!! I hope this year is filled with health and happiness for all of you Ruth - Hope your DH enjoys his laptop. I do like mine for doing quick things, but I prefer the desktop for looking at websites and working on documents and spreadsheets. I'm glad your garbage bin, that wind sounds like it was terrible! Hope you can get your letters done. I'm planning to send some cards/letters to some of the people who sent me Christmas cards telling me how they were and what had gone on with them this year. It's a lot easier doing it for a few after the holidays. Ginny - Hope you were able to get your blocks cut, I know you'll be happy to finish this quilt. Sue - Hope you were able to get your dishwasher installed with no problems. Meg - Sorry you lost your post. I've started copying what I've typed before I post it now just in case I lose it. Phyl - Hope you had a good meal last evening. I did finish the book I was reading and now have several more ready to start, so I'll be set for a month or two. It was sunny and around 50 here today, a nice start to the new year. I went through some of the partially finished projects I have in my sewing room and have a few more small hand quilting projects I can work on. I was also thinking that I might make one of those 10 Minute Table Runners (no batting or quilting required) for each month of the year so that I can put it on my dining room table. It would be quick and a good way to use some fabric. I've really wanted to do the Rainbow Scrap Challenge for several years now so I might think about that too. They give you a color each month and you have to make blocks (choose your own pattern) in that color. I just need to decide what block I'd like to make - probably something easy, maybe a rail fence block. I checked that piece that I removed the blue marking lines from yesterday and there were several blue blotches on it today. I wet them again and I'll see if they go away. Take care everyone!

CJ, that sounds like a fantastic idea to make a 10 minute table runner for each month. It's a fast project and will liven up your table and you could even make some for gifts...as well as use up some of your smaller pieces of fabric.
I couldn't tell you how the ball dropping was. I was awake but not watching tv so didn't see it
So for this year's goals I've already watched a couple videos on how to do a chainless foundation. I know how to do it now but I need to work on my tension while doing it. I never have really learned how to do any of the so called "better way" of doing things such as the magic ring, this chainless foundation, or the crocheting into the back bump of a regular chain. Both the chainless foundation are supposed to look better than using a regular chain but they won't make your edge look better if you don't have an even tension. I think my actual chain looks pretty good but the other nice thing about both the chainless and working into the back bump is that they are stretchier which is really a good thing when you make anything, such as hats and earwarmers, in the round. The benefit of the magic ring is supposed to be that you don't end up with a hole. Well they way I do it there isn't any hole either (such as at the top of a top down made hat)
My next goal is going to be working down my list called "things to make soon", the cross afgan, and since I'm thinking of making all the grandaughters something that wil be between a triangle scarf and a shawl for next Christmas...Have to use up all this Shawl in a Ball yarn that I got on sale..I'll start on that too. So this month I'm going to start the afgan, one triangle shawl/scarf and also start three things on the to do soon list. Then in my spare time.....

Good morning!
CJ- so glad you finished your book- and have several lined up to read to keep you out of trouble. Not that I think you would get not much trouble....ha ha ha This somewhat warmer weather is a nice break, sometimes it’s absolutely frigid this time of year. What a wonderful idea to make a 10 minute table runner for each month! Now being honest, those 10 minute table runners take me about 30 minutes to make- but they are so easy and you can really express yourself with fabric selection. Before she passed, I made several for my mom so she could vary her decor by changing the runner. She really did like them. Even without the need for quilting, decorative stitching (if your machine does that) could provide a nice way to dress it up even more and show your creative side. I wonder if the marker you used has a web site- offering ways to really get rid of markings. I had read something somewhere (or perhaps its from my own personal experience) about markers and that you had to remove the mark within a week to assure complete removal of the ink. Someone somewhere must have experienced the same issue as you and has a solution. That rainbow scrap challenge sounds like a lot of fun! Using the rail fence block or log cabin would be perfect (good idea!) to provide the cohesiveness that the quilt of many different color schemes would need.
Ruth- I have had great luck with the magic ring- and agree with you that they way I make a hat you do not see much of the starting hole anyway. But taught myself the magic ring (which I cannot get in my head and must watch a YouTube every time), just so that I could do it. Its easy...and works well. How many skeins of shawl in a ball do you have? What a wonderful idea to make a shawl and triangle scarf for each granddaughter and you have lots of time to figure out favorite colors for each recipient. Have you decided on a color scheme for the cross afghan? And its very thoughtful of you to send letters to those you want to keep in touch with. From time to time I send actual letters- which although a phone call is nice, have an element of suspense about them- most people do not expect a letter in the mail.
Got a little bit done on the first corner block. Its nerve wracking for me, as I know I have no more fabric and cannot make a critical mistake. But the directions seem to be good enough and I am starting to get it together. By the time I get to the 4th (and last) corner block, I should have the process down. Ha ha ha
Cold here, but a sunny day. Think Dh wants to go for a walk- so I am resting up my gimpy leg a bit and hope we can do that when it gets above 40 degrees. Ginny

Stay safe as you travel Phyl! Are you attending WW meetings again? Let us know what you think of this salad.....which program are you following, now the food plans are rated by color- bout time they offerred a program like that to accommodate different tastes in food. And your basement will always be there for you to clean whenever you like. Housework is so patient. Never goes away right ? Ginny

I had a long post all typed out earlier today and somehow lost it so gave that up and went grocery shopping, filled the gas tank on the car, came home, put everything away and then ate the breakfast dh made while I was putting things away. Now dh is having his nap and I'm here.
Phyl, the salads sound interesting. I'm not much of a salad eater in the winter. I've looked up ww recipes just now and I do like their chicken salads. Raw veggie salad sometimes is not a good thing for my digestive tract. As Ginny said, your basement cleaning will be there when you get to clean it. I hope you're back home safely by now.
Ginny, yes I would be concerned too about making a mistake on the quilt but I know you will do a good job. Did your family members have to go back to school today? I thought the kids would be off until Monday but the kids here had to go back today.
I mentioned goals for the year last night well I looked thru one of my notebooks after that and found the one that had my goal of making a hat each day back in March. I made it to the 15th so sure didn't make that goal.

Hello Crafters Ginny - That was nice to make those table runners for your mother, I'm sure she enjoyed using them to brighten her room. Good luck with finishing your corner blocks. I've had a few projects where I only had a little bit of the fabric I needed to use and I know how nerve-wracking that is. I'm glad you are enjoying some milder winter weather too. Phyl - Hope you got your shopping done and enjoy some of the salad recipes. Ruth - I'm glad you got your shopping and errands done and hopefully you can relax later with some crocheting. I've seen a video on that chainless foundation method, hope you can get some practice on that. Meg and Sue - Hope you are well. I went to the dentist today to get my permanent bridge put in, but they couldn't do it because my teeth had shifted since they put the temporary one in. They are sending it back to the lab for adjustments and it should be ready in a few weeks. I was irritated because they never called me when it was ready the first time but I didn't call to check on it either - so I was irritated at them and at me Also I had to wait 40 minutes after my scheduled appointment time before being seen. They are usually really good about keeping on schedule so I guess something was going on. I did pick up some groceries and lunch at fast food while I was out. I was glad to get home and off the road, there was quite a bit of traffic I guess a lot of people took today off and I think the schools in the area went back today. I also finally bought a new desktop computer - at Best Buy. The guys there probably think I'm crazy because I was trying to buy the card that gives you one year of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. but the ones they sold were all set for a revolving payment. I don't want any revolving payments on my credit cards, I worked really hard to get those payed off and done. So they first rang it up for me and then when they started asked me all the questions and explained the revolving charge thing I asked them to remove it from my bill. I did thank the guy for his patience with me when I left I'll just sign up for the one year of service when I set up this computer. This whole process has stressed me out. I know it was really nothing, but I just don't have the tolerance for these things anymore. I did a bit of work on a stamped cross stitch project but haven't gotten to any quilting. If I do the Rainbow Scrap Challenge I think I will do 16 patch blocks, since I saw some really pretty quilts using that block. I just need to go through my scraps and pull out the colors for January (bright/light green) and see what I have. Most of the blue ink blotches came out of my hand quilted piece. There were a few more last night and I went it again and it looks like they are all gone today. It probably would have helped if I didn't leave the marking on so long. I'll be more careful the next time. Take care everyone!

Good evening!
Ruth, somewhere in cyber land is all our posts that went POOF!! Sounds as though you had a busy day, and got a lot accomplished. I do not see a problem with your hat goal, other things got in the way and that is ok. Perhaps you can reestablish that goal for this year, but be a bit kinder to yourself. With a possible move in your future I bet you have a lot more to do than crochet hats. 2019 was a busy year for your family- your sister visited, your DGS got married and your Ds visited you. Busy enough for sure. Schools here go back next week.
CJ- well that sure stinks that they had to take another impression for the bridge. Hopefully this time they will call when it comes in- and also lets hope that this one fits just perfectly and causes no discomfort to you. i get it with your issues with not wanting to buy the software in installments. I would not want to do that either, You can buy it online and do just fine. Good luck with the new computer! Glad those blotches came out pretty much. As far as the table runners go, as you know they take very little fabric. My mom and I went to Joanns and she had a blast picking out fabric. It was around that time when her driving skills were deteriorating, and Joanns is on a busy highway. I had taken my machine down with me, and made one of the runners right in her living room. (The others I took home to make). Think it made her day. I tried hard to keep her happy. Absolutely nothing wrong with a stamped cross stitch project!! I love them and am actually sort of looking for a new cross stitch to work on. Like I need another project. Right. Enjoy this warmer weather, CJ. Hey would you consider making an appointment for the bridge to be installed? You know, call them tomorrow and make an appointment for 3 weeks from now. Just a nice way to keep everyone aware of the situation.
Except for the border, I got one corner block done. Its not perfect, but I am going to leave it as is and go onto the next one. Being that this was the class I missed because we were away at the end of October, I feel pretty good that I followed the directions and did as well as i did.
Now my online quilting guru has suggested a BOM- its a mystery book BOM. You read a book chapter each month (which they send to your email) and then follow their directions....make the block and supposedly it helps you solve the mystery in the book. Do I need another project? NO! Is it tempting? Yes. But you have no idea what the quilt would look likel or even the size of it. I am trying to resist, but its temping.
Enough from me. Ginny

CJ, sorry about the fiasco at the dentist. Yes they should certainly have called you. I don't know what's wrong with doctor, dentist and other offices now that they are so lax on customer service. Well cross stitch counts as crafting for sure so you did some today even if it wasn't quilting. and you thought about what colors to use and the type of block you want to make so you did quilting too according to our guidelines.
Forgot to say earlier that once we got home I also put on some chicken to simmer to make yet another pot of chicken soup. Dh has been on a real chicken soup kick lately and I've made a large pot of it every week for at least 4 weeks now.
And CJ I looked on youtube for those 10 minute table runners and they are awesome!!! I'm definitely putting those on my list. They will make fantastic gifts and I want to make some for myself also although here we don't use our table except for being a plant rack, a gift wrapping table and when I do it...a cutting table for fabric. However when we go for our few month visit to our "new" home I want to spruce it up with a table runner. There was also a video for making that same thing into two place mats instead of a table runner so I'm going to do that also. The first video I saw had absolutely beautiful fabric but I'm sure I have some that will work great in my stash esp for holidays. I have lots of holiday fabric that I had bought way back when I was working and was planning on making holiday scrubs. Never did get many of those made
Ok back to work. Right now I'm making dish scrubbies which can also be used in the shower to exfoliate but I'm going to use them for my pans and am making some for gifts also

Just thought of it, Ruth, how about making one of those 10minute table runners for DDIL- who I am sure has assisted Ds in finding a nice property for you and Dh. Just a thought Ginny

Ginny, I sent you an email. It's about tea you mentioned.
I'm trying to get myself organized. How do I ever decide what yarn to take with me for a maybe 3 month trip? Well I know I'm going to take some Shawl in a Ball and some Mandala for shawl/triangle scarves but I know I'll want to make other things or the grandchildren will want me to make specific things for them.
Going to get back to getting myself together.
Oh and dh says I didn't hear him right and I'm sure that's true because his is one of the voice tones I really have a hard time hearing. He said he doesn't at all expect that I'm going to take a break from crocheting and in fact he's becoming even more interested in what I make and the different yarns I use.
