On the NYC covid front. NYC is going to allow limited dining indoors starting Sept. 30. - 25% capacity - Temperature check - all tables must be six feet apart - one person of each party must leave their information for possible contact tracing - masks must be worn any time you're indoors except when you're at your table - restaurants must reach the state's air filtration requirements - Bar service will not be permitted - restaurants must close by midnight. Personally, I would eat outdoors but not indoors at this time. It's just not a priority of mine and I'm not willing to take the risk. Also it was just reported: "CDC report: dining out increases risk of contracting coronavirus more than other activities " thehill.com/policy/healthcare/515923-cdc-report-dining-out-increases-risk-of-contracting-coronavirus-more-than

Fin, I don't read all the threads on this board, so I am not sure if it's already been mentioned. However, I wanted to say I hope you and your family are doing okay with the terrible fires in CA. The pictures on the news are so frightening. The air quality must be horrendous, too. I hope they are able to bring it under control soon.

Personally, I would eat outdoors but not indoors at this time. I feel exactly the same.

thanks for checking, alias! we're doing fine, but today was very eerie. it looked like dusk at 7am all the way through til the sun went down. i have never in my life seen high noon look like dark and dusky. i was able to go outside and take pictures of the sun. it looked like this perfect little glowing orange ball. and in the pictures you can see the glowing ring around it. it looks amazing, but sad to know the reason why. my pool has ash in it and it constantly smells like smoke outside.
i agree on the dining. would not even take a chance on indoor dining right now.

Fin, glad to hear you are okay. So sorry to hear about the air quality and how dark it is at noon. The photos on the news are so scary and sad.

I did see a study on GMA this AM that stated that people who had eaten at a restaurant withing 14 days (it didn't specify if indoors or outdoors) tested positive at twice the rate as those who had not.
BTW, I was evacuated due to the CZU Lightning Complex Fire on 8/20 and allowed back 8/27. Our fire was among the first. My town came through unscathed. As far as damage, this fire was the 10th most destructive in Calif. history. 925 homes destroyed.

finreporter, like Finland. Remember when the Finns posted all those memes of them raking away? Who says they are humorless! 1/2 Finnish here.

Fires. I grew up in southern California and lived in the San Francisco Bay area until we moved to Santa Fe in 2012. I do not remember fires like the ones these past years when I was growing up, or even living in the bay area. It's so tragic. I was talking to my bff today, she was burned out in the Paradise Camp Fire in 2018. Paradise was under an evacuation order (which was lifted) a couple of days ago. She said it's hitting her really hard.

luanne, i agree. the fires were not anywhere as frequent and severe back then as they are now. i remember being at my grandma's house in hayward when the oakland hills fire broke out and the sky was completely blanketed with ash. and then i don't remember any others in my childhood before or after that. there had to have been more but we also had much more rain back then than now. this global warming and climate change is no joke.

Smoke remains at "unhealthy" levels here for a few days now. Smoke irritation supposed to mimic Covid symptoms, and makes one more at risk for the virus as it lowers the immune system. Sigh...
Covid precautions got thrown for a loop with all the evacuating. We were in two different hotel rooms, wiped everything down and hoped for the best. The biggest challenge was when we were staying with friends for five days. We ate outside on the deck for most of the time, however it rained and we all did eat in the garage a couple of times. Everyone seems to be OK, but there was much more interacting with others than we have been doing. Also a lot more going for takeout food and shopping for essentials. Masking was done by everyone we saw.
Also, we had a friend over for lunch outside yesterday, then the wasps came and we went inside. She is immuno-compromised and ultra-careful so I'm not worried about catching anything from her, and hope we are safe for her, as far as us not being asymptomatic spreaders. Found out from her that a friend lost his home in the fire. There is a strong need to connect with friends with the fire craziness. Doing the best we can to stay safe.
