I ordered some surgical grade (level 2) masks finally. I have been using the disposable paper ones - I am out of the house twice a week only, but I feel I need a better level of protection. I was influenced by Scott Gotlieb's article in the WSJ today. No one ever talks about the disposable masks when they are ranking them. I have a ton of them; don't know if I will use them now. lani , can you tell us what level 2 masks you got please? Ive been using the blue/white disposable surgical ones and have a few KN95s that I was saving just in case there is a family emergency and I am forced to fly somewhere. I didn't want to leave getting those to chance.
luanne , I want to applaud you for sticking to the PPE protocol that YOU and your husband feel is safest for you. Forget the noise, the people who are traveling this holiday season are going to fuck it up for sooooo many innocent people. You dont want to be them so just shake your head and move on. Or stop following those people like alias123 did. Seriously, you are doing the right thing, there is nothing to be jealous about! And thank you for being a responsible citizen! Think of the people you are NOT putting at risk by refraining from travel - that is the right thing to do at this time. There will be plenty of time for travel once it's safe again. I totally get your feeling of wanting to travel, this is the longest time I've gone without any international travel and/or seeing my family at Thanksgiving, but none of us is willing to risk our health or the health of others for one holiday season. Maybe next year we'll get together, and you know what? If we need to wait one more year, we'll be okay doing that too. You got this lady!
lani, you can always double them up and that should put them at a higher safety rating DotRen, is that like doubling up a condom for 'extra' protection?!?

It appears that Sweden has lost faith in the epidemiologist who said not having a lock-down would increase their immunity and the second wave wouldn't be bad. He said Norway, Finland, and Denmark would have a worse time because they had less immunity because they did lock downs. Now Sweden has the same level of spread as they had in the spring. Sweden had ten times the capital death rate as Norway from October 28th to November 25th. Sweden's was 630 and Norway had 30 deaths. www.yahoo.com/news/swedish-government-sidelines-epidemiologist-steered-102636440.html

surfgirl, I just saw your question. I haven't received the masks yet. I got them on Amazon. The description is Medical Grade 3-Ply disposable face mask with ASTM level 2 fluid resistance. I don't really need fancy masks. For my pizza run I am masked up maybe 5 minutes. Grocery shopping is maybe and hour and a half. That is all I do, each once a week. As far disposable masks go, my blue ones say they are good for 4 hours, so I do plan to re-use them. I have so many I'm just storing the used ones separately with the idea that any cooties will have died off by the time I get back to them. I have seen folks on TV, like Fauci, using double masks.

Result came back Negative. I can’t go back to work until Thursday, that’s when the 14 days of self quarantine are up.

JD's (son) test came back negative. I do want him to retest Friday just to make sure, but now I'm thinking he should probably wait and test next Monday instead because a lot of the parents tell their kids to lie about leaving town (sad right?), because the school makes them stay out 10 days when they leave the area, go to gatherings, etc -so the parents tell them to lie.
What does that teach kids? I know -that's another thread!

I'm so sick of hearing the "top" claiming we're rounding the corner and it will be gone soon. The facts and numbers say that's total B.S.
I saw this morning that "any American who wants a vaccine will have it by June". June?? That's a far cry from the propaganda we've been being fed.
Also: At the school where my son works, all the kids that were in the same class as the one who tested positive needed to have a test before they could come back after Thanksgiving. I'm not sure of the time line because son was off last week, but he got the email Monday, and they had school all but Thursday -so not sure. Anyway, he said 2 of the parents were pissed off and screaming at them yesterday because they hadn't had their kids tested and wanted to bring them in anyway.

I got those surgical Level 2 masks and they look identical to the blue disposables I have already been buying on Amazon. Either the blue ones are better than I thought or these new ones are over-hyped.
On further examination of the package, I see the performance is evaluated by some Chinese company, so I guess I fell for false advertising. The blue ones are OK for me in any case, since I only wear 'em twice a week for less than and hour and half. And absolutely everyone is mask complient around here.

I get to go back to work today, a day early. I don’t work on Fridays and that’s when the positive notification came down. There will be a lot of work to catch up, I’ll spend most of the day organizing and getting things ready since the rest of the teams return tomorrow. It’s going to be a good day.
