The article I read quoted a senior administration official saying: Anyone who wanted to sell us...without an [FDA] approval, hundreds of millions of doses back in July and August, was just not going to get the government's money. That seems sensible to me. At the time they didn't know even if it was going to work. I read one article, forget where, that is calling the New York Times article about this false. I found this about the executive order: President Donald Trump on Tuesday also is expected to sign an executive order that attempts to give Americans priority for Covid-19 vaccines that his administration helped bring to market. The government, through its Operation Warp Speed program, has provided billions of dollars to drugmakers to aid in vaccine development and production. “I don’t know what the legal authorities are. I suspect that there are authorities that the administration could invoke that would break some agreements that Pfizer or other companies might’ve struck with other countries,” Gottlieb said. “But bear in mind, the countries that the vaccine was sold to are our close allies. There is supply from that [Michigan] plant that’s going to come into the United States in the second quarter. It’s just not all of the supply,” he added. “Some of it was promised to other countries after it was offered multiple times to the United States.” Disclosure: Scott Gottlieb is a CNBC contributor and is a member of the boards of Pfizer, genetic testing start-up Tempus and biotech company Illumina. Gottlieb also serves as co-chair of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings′ and Royal Caribbean’s “Healthy Sail Panel.” It was from this article: www.cnbc.com/2020/12/08/covid-vaccine-us-declined-pfizer-offer-for-more-doses-says-scott-gottlieb-.htmlPfizer did not take any money from the project "Warp Speed."

senior administration official = immediate distrust. I could be wrong, but the odds are in my favor.

Doesn't Donnie realize that other countries, i.e. Great Britain, are already providing a vaccine to their population.

Jennifer , I don't think he can force pfizer to breech the contract with other countries that they've already pre-sold to, but it might be able to force them to increase production. Don't we think the Pfizer will already be producing as much of the vaccine as they can?
I think Trump's executive order is a lot of hot air.

Most of my state (Calif.) has gone back, or is about to go back, to shelter in place rules triggered by ICU bed availability going under 15%.

Indoor Dining Will Shut Down in New York City Again. In announcing the move, the governor cited the increasing rate of virus transmission in the state, as well as the city’s population density and its rising number of virus-related hospitalizations. “That is a bad situation,” Mr. Cuomo said. As of Friday, 1,668 people were hospitalized with the virus in New York City, Mr. Cuomo said. Statewide, 5,321 people were hospitalized. www.nytimes.com/2020/12/11/nyregion/indoor-dining-nyc.html

alias123, My husband thinks New Jersey and Connecticut may follow suit in a few days. I know for now there is still some indoor dining in Connecticut.

We've been shut down in New Mexico for awhile now. No dining indoor or outdoor, take out only. No movie theaters. For some reason hairdressers, manicurists and gyms have been able to reopen (after a two week shutdown). I'm not sure what our percentage of ICU beds is currently, but they just stopped all non-essential surgeries, and the mayor of Albuquerque was on MSNBC a couple of days ago. I missed what he said, I assume it had to do with Covid.

The front page of the local paper has pictures of healthcare works getting vaccines with the headline: A Momentous Day For Mankind. My first reaction was the headline was melodramatic but then I realized all of mankind is in danger from COVID. This really is a big deal in history of the world.

They sure kept that under the radar. I pop into Faux News now and then just to see what's happening, even though they have fallen out of favor with ex prez. The story they were flogging this morning was vaccine privacy concerns. What's the government going to do with your information? Are they trying to scare people away from being vaccinated? It certainly seems like it to me.

lani, That's terrible because that is the type of thing that will keep people from getting the vaccine.

My first reaction was the headline was melodramatic but then I realized all of mankind is in danger from COVID. This really is a big deal in history of the world. The hospital we have used in Santa Fe was the first and only hospital to receive the vaccine so far. The other hospitals won't be far behind. They started vaccinating health care workers yesterday. The chief administrator said she will not be getting the vaccine until every other worker has gotten it. They started with the Covid ward and the ER personnel.
