Boosters will be available in Connecticut tomorrow but the Walgreen's and CVS websites aren't set up to take booster appointments yet.
I don't have the nerve to get an appointment the way it is set up now.

CVS in New Mexico just recently allowed me to make an appointment for the 3rd shot.

I'm feeling better about skirting the rules and getting a 3rd shot six months out from my second. I was merely anticipating the decision. I knew science would agree with me.

bbbearsmom, it should be OK for over 65 very shortly and then you can be honest when you sign up. Actually, it is OK as of this morning, they just have to get going at the pharmacies. I have heard that some may be set up by today already.

lani, Thanks for your post. I'm just having anxiety about getting it ahead of time although it probably would be fine.

I have heard that some may be set up by today already. As I mentioned I was able to get an appointment through the CVS website. Earlier, like a week ago, I wasn't able too. Our Department of Health website still hasn't been updated to allow anyone except those who are immune compromised to schedule an appointment.

luanne, lani, The CVS site I was using still had the info about those with weakened immune systems with a message they would be coming out with changes when the CDC made changes. I went ahead and said I had a weakened immune system (in a way I do, I have suspected lupus) and made the appointment. The CDC has come out with the changes and the governor came out yesterday saying the CDC changes went into affect today. Also, in the website's message about the weakened immune system they mentioned that the CDC may change the requirements. I guess it's my Catholic and somewhat strict upbringing had me so timid about going against a rule. My anxiety went away once I made the appointment. I also had bad anxiety around getting the original two shots. I was also worried that once they opened it up it would be difficult getting an appointment.

bbbearsmom , it will be fine. The Catholics I know were the worst bad-girl rebels! But we've all settled down now.

Not sure anyone cares about this or not but just a reminder that the third shot doses are only approved for Pfizer right now, and that's likely because Pfizer doses were smaller (30 micrograms/dose), in part so that they could roll out more vaccinations faster given they were the first approved vaccine option. The Moderna vaccine was administered in much larger doses (100 micrograms)/dose), so someone vaccinated with Moderna twice had 200 micrograms total whilst someone vaccinated with Pfizer had 60 micrograms total. That's a big difference, and one of the reasons that Pfizer vaxxed folks are recommended to get the third dose.
*stepping off soapbox*

luanne, glad you were finally able to get your appointment for number 3. surfgirl, thanks for that info. I got the Pfizer shots and honestly had no idea they were less potent than Moderna. I'm wondering now, will the third shot will be more potent than the first two to make up for the shortfall? I was really fortunate not to have a bad reaction to the shots other than extreme tiredness the following day. I'm in the immuno-suppressed group and have been nervously waiting until after October 13th when I have a mammogram scheduled. They advise not to get the Covid vaccine 4-6 weeks ahead of a mammogram since it can cause false positives with swollen lymph nodes (a common response to the vaccine).

Read on another message board where a man and wife got theirs at CVS. So I checked the CVS website and found out that yes, you could scheduled a third shot. But only if you are immune compromised, and there is a note that the booster for Moderna has not been approved yet.

Also the time between the first and second shots of Moderna was longer than Pfizer, which some medicos are speculating is why it seems to be a bit more durable - the Moderna that is. I got a third shot of Moderna with the original dose (the booster when it's approved will be for half the amount of the original dose) so I'm hoping for super-immunity!
