lani , Thanks for the reminder. I had forgotten. The reminder I got from CVS said to drink the 16 oz of water before the shot.

Got my third shot of Pfizer today. So far, no bad reaction. Judy, I find rubbing the injection site often and hard throughout the first day, and icing on and off helped a lot.

luanne , glad you were finally able to get your appointment for number 3. surfgirl , thanks for that info. I got the Pfizer shots and honestly had no idea they were less potent than Moderna. I'm wondering now, will the third shot will be more potent than the first two to make up for the shortfall? I was really fortunate not to have a bad reaction to the shots other than extreme tiredness the following day. I'm in the immuno-suppressed group and have been nervously waiting until after October 13th when I have a mammogram scheduled. They advise not to get the Covid vaccine 4-6 weeks ahead of a mammogram since it can cause false positives with swollen lymph nodes (a common response to the vaccine). From what we've read, the 3rd Pfizer shot is the same strength as the first two, I've not seen anything stating otherwise. But there is also merit in following the guidance set forth by the CDC and FDA and not taking matters into one's own hands. I was talking to my epidemiology colleagues and we're sure there are people going round for both vaccines, getting extra shots regularly at different pharmacies. There is no scientific data that says more is better, and who knows, more might somehow have a negative cumulative affect. We really don't know, which is why my husband will get his 3rd dose of Pfizer since he is now eligible, but I won't as I had Moderna, so I'll wait until that guidance comes out. It would be easier if we could all easily get antibody testing but from what I understand, that's not something easily accessible to the general public on a 'just because I want to know' basis. I wouldn't worry about your situation though. The 3rd dose should be added protection for you, and you can always do what many of us are doing, which is continuing to mask, distance in public, and wash hands/sanitize regularly. If you'll remember back to last winter, there was almost no flu because people were doing those three simply preventive measures. So keep doing that, and along with your 3rd dose you should be fine!
@doordie, definitely wait until after your mammo, and ask them at your appointment if there is any reason to wait after as well. Example, you might want to wait until your mammo results are in so just in case you had to be called back for added films or an ultrasound, you'd not have the issue of swollen lymph nodes mucking up the readings.

Doing that wouldn't have helped the reaction I got after my second shot (Pfizer). I was extremely fatigued the day after the shot. So I've planned the third one on a day when I have absolutely nothing I have to do the next day.

True, it won't help the flu-like symptoms, but it can do wonders in not feeling like someone hammered a nail into your arm!

. But there is also merit in following the guidance set forth by the CDC and FDA and not taking matters into one's own hands. "I got stuck inside the quote!" I am somewhat leery of these agencies in so far as they are not collecting data in the same way as the UK and Israel, according to Dr. Gottlieb, my most trusted medical source. (Former FDA head, currently on Pfizer's Board of Directors.)

I checked the New Mexico Department of Health website this morning. I am now eligible through them to get the third shot. I had already made an appointment through CVS, but it's nice to know the state site is also allowing those over 65 to schedule through them.

Dh and I are taking our first trip since March 2020. We are going to Newport, RI and then on to NYC. We will both have had our 3rd shot by then. NYC requires proof of vaccination for just about all indoor activities - restaurants, theater, museums, etc. Not sure what the requirements are in Newport. I am so excited to be going. Dh was on the fence for awhile, but getting the 3rd shot has made him feel more comfortable. It will be a bit different trip than before as there are many things, like museum visits we need to plan ahead.

Our county recorded the first two Covid deaths of vaccinated people. Two women, white (Black and Hispanic have a statistically worse outcome so I guess that is why the newspaper included the race), one in her 60s, one in her 70s. Both had "severe" underlying conditions. It did not note if either had received a third dose of vaccine. In the area I live, I would think anyone severely immunocompromised would have, but I just don't know. They were infected by "community spread".
Our county recently lifted its mask mandate, indoors and outdoors, but many businesses are still requiring it. I plan to keep masking up indoors, especially grocery shopping, when I'm there for an extended period.
This is Santa Cruz CA. Brings our total deaths to 215, I think.

DH is getting his flu shot Saturday. I will get mine Wednesday. There was almost zero flu last season due to all the masking and other safety measures. However, this year, health officials are warning the flu may make a big comeback.
I keep hearing it's OK to get your Covid booster and flu vax at the same time. Thinking about it, I don't think I've ever had any reaction to a flu shot other than a sore arm, so it should be all right.
