Bbbearsmom,
We also heard Trump promise a vaccination by the end of the year. I've read and heard many comments Trump's prediction is not accurate as it may take 12-18 months.
He also said all schools will be open in the fall, he wants the kids back in school then. Wondered how parents feel about this?
Let's face it we are heading into a NEW NORMAL as governor's continue to open up our states, our lives will not be the same for a long time if ever.

I am going with the predictions of the scientists as far as how this pandemic is going to play out and the availability of treatments and vaccines, thank you. Trying to keep OURSELVES safe seems to be the only way to go at this point. I see more and more lax behavior as time goes by but we're still doing the full protective routine. I heard from a friend about a woman who is recovering and unfortunately that woman's son died yesterday afternoon. A friend of my daughter just lost her stepfather. A volunteer at one of the local food pantries died a few days ago. Nope, not changing what we're doing, certainly not at this point. And to think there may be more waves after this. "The worst — and most likely — of the three scenarios is one in which the first wave is followed by a larger wave in the fall or early winter. After that would come one or more smaller subsequent waves in 2021." www.businessinsider.com/second-wave-of-coronavirus-infections-may-peak-in-fall-2020-5

our lives will not be the same for a long time if ever. This is what I believe. I'm still working on accepting it. fullmahina, Also it seems that those of us that take care of ourselves have to do battle with those that don't take this seriously.

fullmahina, Also it seems that those of us that take care of ourselves have to do battle with those that don't take this seriously I don't do battle anymore. After seeing the disgraceful display, in my own neighborhood, of neighbors gathering together to welcome a COVID survivor (who was at death's door during his >6 week hospitalization) and NONE of them wore masks I have given up. It's simply not worth the effort. People on my town's FB page, talking about getting together with friends and family for dinners and BBQ's because "we are all fine." Alrighty then...I suppose they are not familiar with the term "asymptomatic." Touch your face, take a serving spoon and fill your plate, leave the spoon there, another uses the same spoon, pass the serving bowl, cough cough, let's all clean up the dishes, and so it goes. Whining that they are "tired of all this." My motto, once again, is Save Yourself.

fullmahina, What you described is exactly how it spreads. I read an article about how it initially spread in Chicago and they focused on a social event where everyone was serving themselves. And, you can not know you have it.

finreporter , linda72 , But Trump promised millions of doses of a vaccine by the end of the year today. Excuse my language but, there is no fucking way I would take a vaccine from anyone that developed it under this administration. It will be developed in a fast tracked fashion that is shoddy and only panders to political reasons, not what's in the best interest of citizens. I'll wait until the CDC and WHO approve a vaccine, thankyouverymuch.
Also, for those asking why taking car rides isn't okay, it's not that it's harmful per se, but if we all start taking car drives here and there then the places we're going get quickly congested and voila, we start passing the virus around. You can say, 'oh but I was only going to go to a remote locale out in the country' but there are a lot of people thinking the same thing. Our two car drives back in early March were to the mountains and a coastal area that was not directly on the beach, and in both cases it was already so crowded where we were, so much so that we didn't get out of our car because there were so many people around, none of whom were wearing masks.
Last night I went to pick up my take out from our usual Friday night joint, which has been great about being very safe. What did I find? Large groups of young people looking for take out, none of whom would wear a mask outside the restaurant. So 6 yahoos are standing around talking right next to the entryway where I need to go in, and non have masks on and you can tell from snippets of convo that they think its stupid to wear a mask. I also saw about 5 people waiting inside the place for their orders. In the past weeks I've been the only one picking up when I go there. They had no taped waiting lines and were not prepared for the increase in customers. I told them they need to put signs up and have people line up away from the entryway and go in one at a time, they can call the order from the door. In addition, the stream of cars coming out of our community, who came to watch the sunset, was horrifying, I mean for the hour we left and came back with our food, the lines did not abate at all, just a never ending stream of cars from people who came to watch the sunset, and the amount of cars is such that there is no way they could social distance because to do so would mean a fraction of these cars.
People just aren't thinking ahead as the public surges forward back out into the world. It's very scary from a public health perspective.

I just read an article this morning that says with TX having relaxed some of its guidelines they are already reporting a surge in new cases. The governor is trying to say its only because they are testing more. Well that is probably partially true and part of it is because some of your cities decided they would not do any social distancing and allow people to go back to restaurants and gyms and such.

Fin I am going to jump in here. It is more than "partially" true, it is an absolute fact.
Living here I see that the testing has gone from non-existent to anyone and everyone who wants it, we all knew there would be a jump from that. As far as the rest, the majority are wearing masks and keeping up social distancing and such, so not really sure where you are hearing they aren't. But don't believe everything you read.

I was reading articles with video footage of restaurants and live on camera interviews with people not wearing masks and saying they were over it and happy to get to to go out and resume life as it was before. Should I not believe these videos? I’m not understanding how else you think I should interpret a live footage and interviews. For the record, I posted something a few days back that a lot of flattening the curve in TX was due to measures taken in Houston in particular and have posted that my mom in San Antonio has been very pleased with the fact that every time she’s had to go out, everyone she sees is wearing a mask. My post above is referring “some” cities in TX. If this doesn’t apply to your city then that’s fantastic.

DebDoesWW, I totally agree with your post 100%. I see masks everywhere I go (which isn't much truthfully) But, I barely believe anything I read or hear anymore so I can see how there is so much misinformation being spread everywhere.

Fin I think we can safely say incidents are happening everywhere. My aunt in OC was just talking about how the beaches are there. Friend in SD talking about the stores, friend in Fresno talking about how people are just getting together like normal like Full was talking about in her state.
Sorry I just thought you specifically stating TX was a little ludicrous when it literally is happening nation-wide.
What I am stating is that here we have had a dramatic increase in testing recently. And no we aren't stripping down naked, waving cowboy hats and running through the streets in glee that we are going through a structured re-opening of the state.

There are fake videos out there. CBS news produced a fake video in Michigan May 1, showing patients in cars lined up for testing. The line was made up with hospital workers because there were not enough cars lined up when they came to film them.

Not a wide audience for videos of folks wearing masks and politely social distancing.

DH and I went to do a grocery pickup and then we stopped by Buc-ees (Texas thing lol) to get ice. DH donned his mask to go in and get some bags of ice but no one else was wearing one, even the employees who were wearing them had them down below their noses! I think Texas has opened too fast (and places like movie theaters? come on!) but I do believe the Gov that the numbers are up because the testing is up is a big part of the number increase. (not all of it- some is that there are a lot of people who mistook 'relaxed' for 'free-for-all' -but they're the same people that have done it all along, they just have more company now).

DotRen , my Buc-ee's had about 50% with masks. Cashiers were behind a large plexiglas. I have not seen any movie theaters open by me. I walked through Katy Mills Mall yesterday to take advantage of the cooler temps. Only about 1/3 of the stores were open. They had limits on how many could come into the store and dressing rooms were closed. No food establishments were open and the AMC theaters were closed. I saw many stores had signs and I think more of them will open by Memorial day weekend.
