I don't know if it was because I rarely go to HEB on weekends but today I would say not even 50% were wearing masks and the ones who weren't wearing masks had no problem getting too close to people.I did not feel comfortable in there at all but this is a small town.A lot of people without masks were 65 and older who should know better. However during the week I must say I see 95% or more wearing masks and more than that are compliant at Walmart. My DH needed feed for cattle and he went to a general store and they would not let you in without a mask.
Governor Abbott said you can't enforce these rules with jail time and I agree with him on that but you would think some of the people themselves would have more sense and wouldn't be so self absorbed that they wouldn't want to protect others by wearing a mask the little amount of time they are in a store.
I go to outpatient therapy for an hour at a time and they require masks and take your temp and I have no problem with that since they have to wear masks and gloves.
Even my little county has risen in confirmed cases the last 2 weeks. We now have 128 cases. However people tend not to look at the recovered cases. We also have 51 people of those 128 cases who have recovered.
I agree this is not just a Texas problem. It's a problem in all the states. Some states are wider open than others but that doesn't mean everyone has gone back to normal as before. There is a new normal I see around where I live.

I’m not sure why my point is being argued but ok. I’m reasonably bright and not one to usually spread misinformation. I only mentioned TX because that was what the one article I read (on ABC News so not exactly some fringe media outlet) was about. Had it been about New Hampshire, Alabama or California, I’d have talked about what was happening in whichever state was mentioned. The video I’m also taking about was also on a national media site. Not something random on YouTube.
So let’s just say my bad, and I will never mention any negative coverage about Texas ever again. I did already say that Houston and San Antonio are doing very well in their practice of today’s health guidelines but since it seems to cause problems to discuss both sides of the coin I’ll just refrain. Not worth it.

My post was not meant to defend Texas but more being upset with the people in the grocery store who were refusing to wear masks. Our county has gone up to 132 total cases as of today and someone reported there were 1800 additional cases in the state today.I don't know if that's accurate. However there were over 700 cases from a meat packing plant in Amarillo that was tested and now they are closed for a deep disinfecting or so they said.
My real point is all except 4 states have started opening up to some extent so yes more testing will yield more confirmed cases.I'm glad we finally have more testing going on.As people in TX get out and in other places unfortunately this will be around for awhile.

finreporter , lol my statement was not aimed at you. Texas is getting a lot of press right now because it seems to be leading the pack in re-opening, so of course it's getting good and bad comments I can only relate what I personally have seen, so I just responded with that BTW: Gov Abbott wears entirely too much lip gloss! It always looks like he just ate something greasy lol.

DotRen I agree on Gov Abbott.I always talk about what he and his band of monkeys have opened too early this time. I guess bars will be next after the gyms.Geez who knows what Dan Patrick has up his sleeve next also. I also was just reporting on what I saw especially today.

I know you guys weren’t aiming your replies at me 😁
Besides the articles and news coverage I was mentioning, I have friends who live in other cities in TX outside of the main cities and they have shared with me that they don’t see a lot of mask wearing at all. One works in a store and she said people are not only refusing to wear a mask but they are also giving the employees trouble when told to wait in line since only so many people can be in the store at once.
And just for additional disclaimer I am sure this is happening in all other 49 states. Overall I am sure most people in TX and all other 49 stares are being cautious (also something I read on NPR lately. That more people are likely being cautious than not). Just so we’re clear.

Yeah I don't understand the people giving store employees a hard time about wearing masks. IMO stores set their own "dress codes" so the mask thing is no different than "no shirt, no shoes, no service" (though I think they should include "no pants" because, you know, people lol).

In our county they claim they can't enforce the face mask since Governor Abbott said it was recommended but not mandatory.I don't really understand that since Mayor Adler in Austin is trying to stick to stricter guidelines.
I have also heard about customers getting yelled at by other customers for not being behind the 6' marker. It really gets ridiculous sometimes.HEB used to have lines when our county required face masks but now anyone can go in and it's still only supposed to be 25% occupancy of the store.

Our stores in my area (and other parts of Los Angeles too but since I only see mine I’ll talk about those) still have the markers for waiting outside and markers for waiting in line at the cash registers. Since they only let so many people in at a time this makes it easier to keep distance.

I just found our city’s guidelines and we are currently in phase 2. All people out of their homes must wear a mask. I’m planning on making a few tonight using YouTube tutorials. I need to make some for my girls as well. corona-virus.la/SaferLA

finreporter , I've been making 2 types: the rectangles with 2 pleats for DH since he likes them really long/wide, and the fitted "olson" type for myself and son. I found the olson work better with a slightly stretchy fabric- if you have old t-shirts, they're perfect for them. I also like the casings instead of the sewn in elastic, so you can just thread in new elastic if needed rather than have to cut the old out and sew in new. Edit: I just do the 2 layer olson masks, not the filter porket.

That’s exactly what I was going to use are old T-shirts and probably old leggings the girls no longer fit into.
The one I’ve been using is actually a sock! Sounds gross but it’s actually a pretty fancy trouser sock that I’d only worn once. I had some string that was from a sweater and used it as ear ties. It’s really comfortable and stays in place and is 4 layers. I want to make a few extra just so I have in all places (car and work bag for when we return to the office) and then just to have some extra.

There are people all over the country becoming complacent. The scene on the boardwalk at the Jersey Shore was insane yesterday. From the news reports it looked like maybe 30% were wearing masks, all crowded together, no one paying any attention to anything except the beautiful day. My sister lives north of Dallas-Fort Worth and she said that almost no one is wearing masks in her small town. She and her SO wear masks, use hand sanitizer and rarely go out now; both have significant health issues and are in their 60's. We have a drive-in theater nearby that has just opened and marked out spaces with poles that are 18' apart. The concession is open but is plastered with signs about social distancing. Of course if you really want to you can get out of your car and socialize without masks (one picture in the article below has me doubting that the people in the pic were going to socially distance for the whole time they were there) but if you want to do social distancing to the max you can bring your own food, stay in your car with the windows rolled up (the audio is broadcast to your car radio) and avoid people altogether. And watch THREE movies on the big screen! www.nytimes.com/2020/05/16/movies/drive-in-movie-theater-coronavirus.html?fbclid=IwAR39_w_aza3aARoCgLdbtHFoC-ag4zbNzar-RCF058aC0M7fBHMYHhqCf58

There used to be a drive-in close to my mom and dads old place. We could sit on the roof and watch the movies lol. Between the heat and mosquitoes, not as much fun as I remember I'm sure

I used to have to wear a mask from Oct-May when I worked in health care (can’t get a flu shot). After the first few days I didn’t even notice I was wearing it. I go back to work tomorrow, employees are required to wear masks. I’m curious if they require customers to wear them too. Fortunately I work evenings and have limited contact with customers. I carry a mask with my on my daily walks in case I run across other people and can’t move enough to distance. I wear a mask when I pickup my takeout order or go thru a drive through.
I’m more concerned with going to the restroom. It’s a public restroom and I doubt I can go 4-1/2 hours without a bathroom break. They have both air dryers and paper towels, hope they disconnect the dryers.
I would like to see them tell sick employees to go home. Last winter there were so many colds spread by coughing, sneezing, touching. I haven’t heard if they are going to check temperature yet, but I will at home right before I go to work.
