this whole thing has been so stressful, i think it's caused a lot of us to bitch and moan. for good reason! i am usually a reasonably peppy and positive person (well, maybe only half the time on a normal day, otherwise i'm just chill and low key to the point even my girls ask "how come you're not more enthusiastic about things??") but i just can't bring myself these days to be the joy character from the movie inside out. i can't only focus on joy joy joy everything's fine! everything's great! put on that happy face, rah rah!! when there are people dying unnecessarily from things that could prevent some of it. i can't get happy happy plastic smile on my face (mostly pretty much ever but especially these day), when i read about people having loved ones on induced coma so that they can be on ventilators for 2, 3, 4 + weeks just to keep them alive and keep them from suffocating from their own phlegm filled lungs. when i read about people having come off of induced coma for ventilator purposes who say they still have trouble walking because of atrophied muscles. i'm sorry, but i just can't do it. and when i see people scoffing at the shelter in place orders, the very guidelines that are meant to prevent more people from dying or ending up on ventilators yet surviving, it just enrages me. i try to be happy and put the smile on. and rah rah jump for joy, and i can for certain things like that i'm healthy as are my loved ones and that my little girls put a smile on my face (most of the time anyway!), but right now is just not that time for overall happy happy. not under the circumstances. so please all forgive me if i get ornery and crotchety during these times! i will try not to be too angry about things but these days it is rough. you guys have been amazing for letting me word vomit and vent! so thank you!! now back to my grumble grumble.

Yes, it is nice to have a safe space to vent. Went to the grocery store this morning and everyone was pretty compliant with the masks. There were a few that had their noses exposed though. I wear a N-95 mask and am always glad to get it off when I get to the car. No demonstrations around here. People did go out for outside dining yesterday. The mall opened but only one or two stores were opened. The anchor stores didn't open. One of the articles mentioned a couple who had just picked up their 20-month-old daughter from the hospital. She had been there for almost two months with a COVID like illness. That must have been rough.

finreporter, I agree. All the happy talk on the morning news programs (but what else can I expect) makes me want to hurl. I know they are trying to be upbeat, but if I see one more celebrity trying to cheer folks up---! (I except Steph Curry - him I will always see and smile. )

i've seen some discussion of los angeles allowing restaurants to use cordoned off street space to place dining tables once they start opening up for dining again. i think that would be nice. they said it will be more like how european cities already do it. the problem is, in LA our public transportation isn't as widely used as it is in europe. so not sure if that will cause more traffic or if they have a plan for ramping up expansion of the metro lines. i know they've been expanding them in the past few years. will be interesting to see how it works.

One of dh's female friends said that taking your mask off after wearing it for awhile was like coming home after work and removing your bra.

expansion of the metro lines LA is like Houston, traffic all the time. I would be fearful to get on a bus unless there were only a very few passengers. Too much confinement for me. It would not be profitable for Metro to run more lines with fewer people. Traffic in Houston seems back to it's pre-quarantine levels although I know most people aren't at work yet. I judge the traffic by my Buc-ees travel center. When the quarantine first started, it was empty most of the time. Now, it's packed every day and everyone is using the car wash. By the way, there are 120 gas pumps at this location and the car wash (255 ft. long) was recognized by Guinness World Records as the longest in the world. Yea, everything seems bigger in Texas but my grandkids loved going through the car wash!

120 pumps at one place?? wow! most of ours have maybe 12-16 or so at the most.
i can tell our traffic is getting a little heavier too though not yet to pre-quarantine levels. every other day when it's my turn to do the kid switch at their dad's, the traffic went from no one on the roads to starting to congest a little more. not anything crazy, but i can tell it's coming back.
i wouldn't get on public transportation for the time being while we're still in the pandemic times (and recognize that i'm fortunate to not have to), but once the virus is under control, next year or so, i think it would be ok again and that the city/county should beef up the lines.

We have one block of a street that has always been a lot of restaurants and bars. On one side of the street they are letting places put up tables on the sidewalk and are closing off the parking lane to give them more room. I just saw a post on my local Next Door that one place set up an area in the parking lot of their strip mall.
Oh our high schools are going to have in car graduation at the beginning of August. Each of the two high schools has a day, two people per car. They will be held at one of our beaches on a Monday and a Tuesday.

We have about 9 gas stations located throughout our little town, that's why we love living here! 😀 Could not believe all those gas stations in California!
We have two blocks of stores two ways that make up our little town, total of four blocks downtown. They are talking about using the parking spaces in front of our stores for outdoor seating etc., definitely not in favor of that.
We are a big resort town in the summer because of our beautiful lake, stunning sunsets, fishing, quaint downtown, unique places to eat, events like craft fairs and many festivals.
Most of our summer visitors are really nice but a few are so rude, break all our rules driving and act so terrible because they don't live here and feel they can get away with rudeness. Most of our local people hate our summer visitors and don't go to town during the summer.
This summer is definitely going to be interesting with the new normal! 😀

DotRen, and their food is good. We get brisket sandwiches which they cook themselves and they are delicious, along with their homemade potato chips. They sell lots of breakfast tacos in the morning too. Oh, their fudge is homemade and and I've "heard" it's delicious! (ahem, not that I would know!!) LOL! Our Buc-ees is only 3 miles from my house so we go there a lot. For Christmas this year, our family of 6 (DH and I plus DD, her DH and my 2 grandkids) drew names and had a Buc-ee's Christmas. Each person had to get a gift from Buc-ee's for the name they drew. It was fun watching the grands shopping through Buc-ee's for the special gift. We had a blast on Christmas morning, unwrapping the Buc-ee's treasures!

Cute idea, and Bucees is great for quick gifts. The beaver nuggets are really good, but so much sugar! But still good

DotRen, linda72, I've read about Buc'ees. It sounds wonderful. If I ever go to Texas I'll have to go there. linda72, Your Buc'ees Christmas sounds like fun.
