In other news Hong Kong is partially putting restrictions back in place because they are more cases. Their Disney World closed up again. Also New South Wales in Australia is tightening restrictions including closing their border with Victoria.

I have friends and relatives who live in Florida. One of them went for a massage and facial on Saturday. She also made sure she got in as many visits to local theatres before they closed their doors a few months ago, knowing the theatres were going to be shut down. LOVES that dinner theatre stuff. Her rationale was, hey they're open it must be okay. She posted the spa visit on FB, pretty much swooning over how fabulous it was, how great to get back to normal.
I just can't anymore.

I keep thinking my bff is being pretty careful. She keeps telling me how they aren't in a real hot spot of the state, but at this point what difference does it make. She had her dds doing pretty much all of her shopping until lately. She's very new to the area so she doesn't have much of a social life except for her dds (one lives with her the other lives a few blocks away). But then she tells me that her older dd's Odyssey of the Mind team (high school) came over to bff's house to film their presentation. Then afterward they all went swimming and the parents brought food! Dh said "What the HELL was she thinking!". I haven't heard any repercussions from this, but bff isn't being as careful as she thinks. Now they all (bff, both dds, the sil and 2 grandsons) are planning a trip to Georgia. They've rented a house in a kind of remote area. If I were the state of Georgia I wouldn't be letting anyone from Florida in.

I have friends and family that are swearing up and down about people who are careless and who won't socially distance or wear masks and then they post photos of themselves at family parties!!! Not only immediate-household-family, but in-laws and boyfriends of granddaughters, teens who just had to have their friends over, neighbors who wandered over to sock down a few beers, etc etc etc. And to a one they all got emotional over how wonderful it was to feel "normal" again. In one of these parties I recognized someone who was a nurse in the ER, a police officer, and at least two others who had daily contact with the public. Oh, and another who is a social worker working in a psychiatric facility that at one time had a covid-positive rate of 40%. Quite a few are in the high risk category due to autoimmune diseases, chronic illness, and just plain old age. But I guess the simple act of crossing over into the backyard of someone who has pure intentions will protect them all. And let us not forget the magical power that shared DNA has---sure, have that grandchild over for a fun afternoon baking cookies, go enjoy a fiesta with those nieces and nephews that you haven't seen in soooo long! The magical mystical shared double helix will allow no harm to come to you and yours! Sorry for the rant but I am beyond disgusted.

i'm disgusted too. people's behavior is downright shameful. my FIL calmed me yesterday and momentarily ranted about the protesters spreading the virus. i wasn't going to get into it on the phone (he's 50% deaf anyway) but did want to tell him that actually it's already been proven that the protesters didn't actually spread the virus. it's those who insist on living "normal" life that are the cause of all this. protesters were a) outside and b) mostly all wearing masks. no one looked like an idiot in those groups unlike the land of the ozarks or the water parks or the parties who look like they clearly all have IQs of potatoes.

New York just added four more states to those they will not allow into the state. New Mexico is among them. Good thing we had already cancelled our plans to go there in October. At this point we're not going anywhere at least through the end of this year, and probably beyond.

An outbreak in upstate NY has been connected to people who travelled to Georgia, returned to NY, and didn't quarantine themselves. And yeah, that's just how easy it is to spread this thing.

and then they kill others in the process. this fingers in ears BS has got to stop. i am consistently amazed at how blatantly this has shown how our public school education has so clearly failed most of the country's adults and children.
if there is trillions of dollars that can go to wall street company bail outs and kanye west, then there is plenty of money to get siphoned to education.

An outbreak in upstate NY has been connected to people who travelled to Georgia, returned to NY, and didn't quarantine themselves. They don't believe it will happen to them. On the plus side, due to following CDC guidelines in NY we are now at a low infection rate where we can do contact tracing and quickly quarantine people. Though we are seeing some people starting to ignore the guidelines. In some states (AZ, FL, TX,) for a variety of reasons (spread of virus is too wide, not adequately funding track/tracing, not following CDC guidelines for socially distancing/mask wearing, opening up before meeting CDC guidelines) it is impossible to get a handle on things. Unfortunately, the Governor of NY has said because we don't have a federally coordinated policy that all states are required to follow, he fears NY will once again be back at square one facing hard times when we begin to spike again due to some of the other states not following the guidelines. Right now we just keep shutting down various states or worse only partially shutting them down, then opening them up before the CDC guidelines are met. This results in having the virus return with a vengeance. This is because all states are not all following the CDC guidelines at the same time or following them at all. This policy of let every state do their own thing when and if they choose, not only doesn't this make any sense but it is deadly. History will not be kind to the elected officials who have chosen the path of politics over science.

And what does this present administration want to do if its insane command to open up all the schools to in-person classes is not obeyed? WITHHOLD EDUCATION FUNDING.
Do not get me started.

Honestly, you should report these people to the department of public health and to their superiors and you should tweet or post about it somewhere publicly so that someone will maybe do something. I think it's our civic duty now to do this.

NY Times: Trump administration ordered hospitals to bypass the CDC and send key coronavirus information to a Washington database, alarming health officials who fear the data data will be distorted for political gain. Nah, they'd NEVER do that would they??? I guess we'll still have Johns Hopkins.
