but if we just stopped testing so much, we'd have less cases right?!? we are living in a nightmare. Orwell couldn't have even written this $hit show.

Our daily cases are bouncing around between 1000 and 1500 per day.
Hospitalizations are up but not extremely.
Deaths are down, thank goodness.
I miss Amy Acton, she got bullied into resigning.

DotRen , Clockwork Orange comes to my mind the sick and twisted nature of it all (with that movie and this ridiculously poor handling of the virus by national "no" leadership) is very on point!

This is a link to a website with a color-coded map showing seriousness of the virus in each state. They added a new category: uncontrolled spread. www.covidexitstrategy.org/

our governor just announced today that if your school district falls within one of the counties on the state's watchlist (what is being used currently to determine which counties can have salons and restaurants and gyms open), then you cannot open school and you have to do full distance learning. LA county is on that list. i'm glad to hear we won't be forced back into the classroom.
the only they can reopen is if they are off the watchlist for 14 consecutive days and to get off the watchlist you need to have certain criteria met like positivity rate lower than a certain threshold, ICU bed availability at higher than a certain threshold, cases per 100k people being below a certain threshold, etc. all of these and other criteria must be met before being taken off the watchlist. so it sounds like our kids will be in distance learning for quite some time til people can get their act together and finally start wearing masks.
i feel bad for teachers in states where they will be forced to go for in person instruction or lose their jobs.

I must admit I am just amazed at what is going on. I live in an area in Texas that is a hotbed of anti-mask, etc. sentiment. They are spitting mad at the governor for the mask order. Not everyone, but enough. For those who aren't around people who just don't believe Covid is a thing it is hard to explain. There are people who are big into the "freedom" aspects but you do think it is a real illness. But I am on a couple of local Facebook groups where they aggressively assert that this is a minor illness, not as bad as the flu. If someone points out hospitalization rates, or death rates they say that pressure is put on hospital to say people has Covid when they haven't been tested, etc. When a physician in the group patiently explains why they should wear masks they site to websites about how dangerous masks are. There is literally no reasoning with them. If someone expresses concern, the condescending response is: Well, if you are fearful, and want to stay home and not go anywhere you can stay locked in your home. But let us without fear live our lives. The subtext is that anyone "fearful" is wimpy. They take it as a given that this is all just a big overaction meant to remove our freedoms and to score political points.
While I don't think the governor has done a good job I do feel for him a little bit. As inadequate as what he has done has been, many in his own party are mad at him for the little bit that he has done. He does take it seriously I think. He just wants people to do stuff voluntarily. But, they won't. Some have this whole "freedom" idea. Some just don't care about doing things to help others (I think I am at low risk so why should I wear a mask), and other are just sure they are invincible. And, each day, it just gets worse and worse.
The last time I was inside a store or anywhere other than my home was March 16th. I've been out a few times to pick up something or to drive somewhere without going in. DH has gone to the store a few times when we couldn't get something on pick up. I am tired of it. But I am more concerned now than I was 2 months ago....
I don't see this changing any time soon.

Kitty, I feel the same way. I'm more concerned now because people are becoming combatant and complacent about it.

Kitty, I see the same type of behavior and posts here in New Mexico. We did get locked down pretty hard and pretty fast. People complain the numbers are "fake", but cite no reasons for those beliefs. I will say that when we were out yesterday just about everyone we saw was wearing a mask. But I am pretty sure that in many of the smaller areas there is much less compliance.

It's impossible to move people out of their positions on masks when they don't believe the statistics and science. I see no end to their dangerous behavior.

Read a post from a doctor. Patient comes into ER with some symptoms of COVID-19 and has COPD. Refuses COVID test, says the virus is a fake, the tests are fakes, none of it is true. Patient think it is just their COPD out of whack. Doctor has to admit them so they have to go to a COVID floor. He's concern they are wasting PPE to take care of this patient if they are negative. But, since it is a COVID floor they don't get visitors so he hopes they'll change their mind and take the test.

bbbearsmom, I know this is anti-freedom, but I don't think, at this point in time, someone should be able to refuse a covid test, you know?
