DotRen, It was an interesting discussion. I guess it happens often in labor and delivery. It depends on the hospital whether or not they isolate the woman that doesn't want the test. But in general it is a danger to the staff and other patients.

My county has had no new cases for two days. I'm hoping it's real and not just a testing results lag. Santa Cruz CA
ETA: 58 new cases reported today. Must have been a lag.

He is a sociopath. A study I read several years ago said that about 20-25% of people in business and politics are sociopaths. They literally have no capacity to care about others.

This is from a Washington Post email:
On Wednesday, when the United States reported its highest number of coronavirus-related deaths since late May, President Trump painted a rosy and wishful view of his administration's response to the pandemic, in which the patients who are flooding hospitals can be cured by existing treatments, all schools will safely reopen, and the soaring caseloads are limited to a handful of states. Trump's assessment, though, is undermined by the alarming reality: The United States has now reported more 4 million total cases after the number of confirmed infections doubled in just six weeks, and by nearly every metric it is losing badly in its fight against the virus.

exactly. he is not a true leader. leadership is not closing one's eyes to the problem and hope it goes away and not forcing children and teachers back into classrooms when it's not yet safe to do so.
it's embarrassing.

since our leader had someone lie and say essential health workers are not getting the covid... I have friends/former co-workers who are on the front lines and are FURIOUS. They feel betrayed by all the people who are partying, not wearing masks, etc, etc, etc. A respiratory therapist whom I worked with in Hawaii is putting up scathing posts on her FB page---Hawaii was down to ZERO cases in June and yesterday there were 55 new cases. She figures it is due to the July 4th partying that she saw and was thoroughly disgusted by. She posted a pic in full work gear, with tears in her eyes and the caption "I am so done." Other nurse friends of mine say that you can keep the jet flyovers, the banging of the pots on apartment building balconies at 7pm shift change, and the food donations. JUST WEAR YOUR DAMN MASK and stop pretending this is all over. Really people....WTH is it with all the gatherings?? I honestly don't get how stupid people are being about this. I see it all over FB---a friend who has been super-cautious just rented a big house up near the Great Lakes so she, her husband, her kids and grandkids can all get together and "finally see each other!!" I kept my mouth shut but all I could think was yeah, that shared bit of DNA some of you guys got going on will certainly protect you, all others will be safe due to the powers of magical thinking. My robust sarcasm gene has been working overtime and I need to stay away from FB and forums, lol. Yes, NY is doing well as far as containment goes but we STILL had over 800 new cases YESTERDAY. WTH, people!!!! And those in Texas, Florida, California, Arizona? All I can do is SMH. So fed up, so disgusted. Rant over, carry on.

What I "love" are the posts from people who say "Well if masks work, why can't we just open everything up". It's because not everyone is wearing masks you idiot.

I am resigned to staying at home as much as possible for a long, long time. People just aren't getting it. I recently left a board position on an organization I'm active in. We have gone to Zoom meetings. One of my good friends just volunteered to co-president this group as the current president is overwhelmed. She (my friend) sent me an email wanting to know if the board could meet outside at a park. I had to remind her that gatherings of more than 5 people are still prohibited and we also have some board members (one married to a doctor) who are VERY vocal about not wanting to meet in person. My dh says my friend just wants an excuse to get out. Sigh.
