Florida and Texas governors blame spike in cases on increased testingwww.cnn.com/2020/06/18/politics/texas-florida-coronavirus-cases-governors/index.html"At a time when Floridians continue to pack bars and restaurants, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis brushed away questions about his culpability in aggressively reopening his state during a press conference this week. In remarks layered with racial overtones, he blamed the surge in cases, in part, on crowded living conditions in migrant families. He said the state would also take a closer look at the spread of the virus among construction workers and day laborers, who he said are "overwhelmingly Hispanic.""

I just listened to our governor, they have identified counties in Southern Ohio with hot spots. The Dole Company and a nursing home were on the list.
He's sending the national guard down there to test, identify and isolate. Hopefully they can get it under control.

Added to the things that make me want to scream: Went to the vet today. They don't have a "mask required" thing anymore. Man, woman, 4 kids(all walking age so I'm guessing 2-10 years old) and 1 small dog. No masks. Only the woman went in the exam room with the dog. Leave the freaking family at home! People are idiots.

Adding to the "people are idiots". I post on a travel website. There are several people there who identify as proud non-mask wearers. They do say they wear masks when required, but really don't believe they do any good. Just shaking me head here.
On a brighter note, I went with my dd yesterday while she got her hair cut. I took a book and waited outside. There is a nice little courtyard and I found a chair in the shade. There is a coffee place across the way. I saw several people come up to get coffee from the take out window. I only saw a couple of people without masks. I was wearing one, even though I was outside and only took it off to sip my iced latte. I wonder what some of these people think when they walk up to a place like this where EVERYONE except them is wearing a mask.

Hospitalizations in San Antonio have quadrupled in the last two weeks. Hopefully, people will start to take this seriously.

From today's Wall Street Journal: AMC theaters in a reversal will require customers to wear masks, although the article said the policy would be hard to enforce once the movie starts. Cineworld Group PLC's Regal Entertainment Group is also revising their policy and requiring masks. Cinemark Holdings, Inc. is encouraging mask but not requiring them, and Alamo Drafthouse is marketing the idea that their mask requirement make them the safer option.
There was a lot of activity on social media against AMC when they first said they wouldn't require masks. Customers said they wouldn't come to their theaters.

I'm definitely NOT going to any movie theaters and will boycott AMC anyway because they only reversed their decision based on loss of money from the backlash. They weren't going to do the right thing on their own accord. And also, if that's their attitude, can you imagine how many Covidiots will take masks off as soon as they're in the actual theater? No thank you.

DotRen The vet we use still doesn't allow owners inside. When we took our dog for her annual shots they came out to get her, brought her back out while waiting for results for the heartworm test and with the bill.I figured since she has never been away from us she would resist but they said she was really good.Go figure. They wait until the doctor is ready to come out for the pet.

borntexan, they've been doing that here -as an option -but 1 person could also go in if the pet was more comfortable that way but they had to wear a mask. This is the first time we've been there in 3 weeks, so I don't know when they relaxed it, but when the family came in, the receptionist rolled her eyes lol.

Here no one is allowed in with a pet (I don't have one, just hearing reports from those who do) and no one is allowed into a doctor's appointment with someone else. My dd took her car in for servicing this morning and she wasn't even allowed to wait at the dealer while the servicing was being done. That, to me, seemed extreme. They should be able to space out seating in the waiting area.

Agreed with surfgirl, I will not be going to the movies. All I need is to be in a single room with people sneezing and coughing and AC fans spreading it around. Heck no.
My girls had a dentist appointment on Thursday. We had to wear masks. I waited as usual in the waiting room. No one was there until we were leaving but they all had masks on too. It felt reasonably safe. The dentist had his full face shield on. The hygienist as well and the receptionist had a mask. Their office has the sliding window at the receptionist desk so she keeps that shut all the tine unless she needs to ask you something.

Their office has the sliding window at the receptionist desk so she keeps that shut all the tine unless she needs to ask you something. I've posted this several places, most likely somewhere here as well. I had my teeth cleaned on Monday. I was asked to wait outside (they had chairs) since there was one other person in the waiting room. I arrived wearing a mask. Someone came out and took my temperature. Then the hygienist came out to get me. She asked me the 4 COVID 19 questions and took me in. She was wearing a mask. I asked her if they wore shields and she said only if they are doing a procedure that produces what I call "splatter". I don't remember what she called it. The only difference in the procedure was that she didn't use the water thing to clean my teeth, and she didn't polish them as both of those cause splatter. She said they are following the ADA guidelines. At this point I don't remember if the receptionist had on a mask.
My dd had an eye appointment yesterday. No one was allowed to go with her. And a friend of mine was telling me that her son was going to have an orthodontist appointment and she wasn't going to be able to go in with him.
