Everyone here was too kind to inform me that last week when I started the thread I mistakenly dated it for two weeks. That detail was noticed think it was yesterday...anyway the mistake is corrected for and hopefully the dates are right for this weeks thread.
Ruth, gonna grab some yarn and a hook and check out those directions. So glad you also have the youtube to provide instruction that makes some sense. So many are so creative out there- but its the ability to get those directions in a way that anyone can figure out is a challenge.
I did end up getting back to work on the binding, only worked on it for a short while....but little by little it will get done. One thing I am now considering is making two pillow shams to match. Will have to see what fabrics I have leftover and if that is a possibility. I hope to be heading up to the quilt shop in a few weeks when my friend gets back from vacation (she is leaving next weekend to go away for a week). So that is something I have to see what I can work out...and I do think I have the fabric to do that.
Another Monday- and I am in for some hot days. Got a few things I have to take care of this week- just trying to figure out the when and the how of if all.
Yes I do have dust masks here for the sheet rock sanding. All my sanding is low to the ground (the lower 24 inches of the wall) and I am not going to sand that much more. I put up a second coat of spackle yesterday - will sand today and paint with primer tomorrow. Gonna order some inexpensive bead board wall paper (I think)- get the room painted a nice crisp white and I am done.
See ya later G

Hello Crafters Ginny - Thanks for the heads-up on Chesapeake Shores coming back. I missed them having shows this summer, but it will be nice to see them again next year. Hope you can get things done on the wall so you can get all that finished up. I'm sure it's hot working on that type of project right now. The pillow shams sound like they would be pretty with your quilt. Ruth - Hope you can figure out that pattern. Sometimes when I look at crochet project instructions, it looks like a foreign language I'm sure you'll get it done right. Thanks for your thoughts on my scrappy quilts. I don't have to put them together for another few months, so I'll figure it out then. It's going to be hot here for several days, I'm not looking forward to it. I went out this morning to drop some bills in the outside mailbox at the post office. Later this week I have an appointment to sign the new will that I had done back in March, right before everything closed down. I'll be glad to get that signed and done. I'm thinking about starting another quilt project, but not sure which one right now. I've been looking at a few patterns to see what would work with some fabric I've had for a long time. One that I'm considering is Pat Sloan's "Oh My Stars" quilt: www.ilovetomakequilts.com/oh-my-stars-free-quilt-pattern-by-pat-sloan.htmlThis one looks like it would go together quickly. I have some fat quarters that I might cut into 5 inch squares instead of using a charm pack of fabric squares. Take care everyone and have a good day!

It's not that I was being kind, Ginny. I just never noticed the dates. I hope you'll be done with that wall and the laundry room soon. It will be a good feeling to have that done and it will look so nice. The quilt binding, as you said, will get done little by litte. It's a great idea to make pillow shams. That will really put the finishing touch on that whole room CJ, I really love the blue quilt she's holding up on that site. The red is ok but not my choice but as soon as I scrolled and saw the blue one I loved it. I did get those two pieces of the shield done. Now just a couple little part, doing the surface crochet to decorate it, then I'll be ready to put it all together which will be the easy part. She has a star on one (she made one for her son and one for her daughter) and a heart on the other. I'm going to put on dgs' name. Luckily it's a short name I have a few things to take care of this week also and it will be hot but August will be over before we know it.

CJ- gee am I lame....they renewed Chesapeake Shores to be aired in a year!!! Long wait for sure, but at least something to look forward to. Looks like they also renewed Good witch - a show I am not a big fan of at all. I find one of the lead characters creepy. Thanks for posting the link for the oh my stars quilt! So pretty. Like Ruth, i prefer the blue and tan color scheme....but both are pretty. I have done that too, but my own 5 inch squares when I needed them instead of a charm pack. Thanks for the reminder about a will- mine needs to be updated. Like yours it was delayed with the Covid shutdowns. Hey on the oh my stars quilt, is it flying geese that make up each star?
Ruth, glad you got the shield done!! And so thankful that DGS name is short and easy to add. Yes August is approaching the half way point. Hard to believe.
Got to Walmart this am and picked up a new window feeder (at a hardware store, Not walmart). Hopefully the squirrels will not trash this one.....

WEll just the pieces so far on the shield but I'm hoping to get it done today. So far my crafting has consisted of dragging the boxes of accumulated gifts out so I can go through and see what to give to each person. I've done some sorting of them but have to go through them again. There's still a box full of those toys I found brand new and never opened in the garage. I don't know why ds didn't take them home with him when he left here after his last visit. He had a lot of space in his luggage. Now my living room is a shambles so better get busy and sort again. I'll then be able to get a head start on wrapping them all. I have gifts for everyone except those that preferred money. I'll be glad when they all prefer money...that's much easier.I also have gifts for the two dggds that live here in town. ONe just had a birthday and the other will next month so gotta wrap those too but at least I don't have to ship them I'll just wait until we feel safe going over there where everyone is always coming and going and none take any virus prevention measures

Phyl, thank you for the confidence you have in me but no I haven't got things in place yet. It's really hot in my upstairs where the one bedroom, kitchen, living room and dining room are so I can't work very long before all that heat wears me out. I have a question for you. I have another friend who found she has high platelets also. She found out she has a gene mutation. Did they mention that to you? Did they do genetic test...it's just a blood test and I'm sure they can do it with bone marrow too when someone has a bone marrow biopsy.
Oh and after I when through the several boxes of accumulated gifts in my gift stash I also went thru a lot of my yarn and got some one the smaller balls of leftover yarn packed up to donate. I know some people go to GW looking for small bits to make things like those dusting gloves.

a friend sent me this in email. I don't know how thinks up these things
How to reuse the cooking water: 7 alternative ways
published on 3 July, 2019 at 14:02
Pasta is a very nutritious food that almost every day is on our tables. Even the water in which it is cooked, rich in mineral salts and starch, can be recycled and used in an alternative way both in the kitchen, for cleaning the house, personal hygiene and more.
1. Lengthen thick seasonings
2. Make the broth
3. Steam the veggies
4. Make a healthy drink
5. Dish washing
6. Water the plants
7. Hair solution

Good morning, I ended up cleaning out the linen closet (which badly needed it). Due to Covid 19 (wonβt we be happy in a year or do when that is all over) the drop box at my church is closed and VIetnam Vets has ceased taking donations for now. So I will continue to accumulate items to donate and hope that we will be able to do so soon.
Ruth, that is a great idea about the genetic testing for Phyl. (I am guessing that she has probably had it already). Too bad that Ds left without taking those toys....I wonder if (like a lot of kids today) he was hesitant to bring more stuff home. Dd begs me not to buy stuff for her kids - because she feels they already have too much. It sounds as though you have quite a project going there, sorting out what you have made to give to others and what you bought....so glad you do not have to ship everything. A lot of work to get stuff ready to ship and find a suitable box. Hope that you are able to get your gumption up to get the job done. (I can be such a procrastinator). And I hope that you get some cooler temps to get that job done.
Phyl- hope that the trip to the chiropractor provides quick pain relief- it sounds like it is....and hopefully that pain relief holds and you can do what you want to today. Yes a nice rain would be nice for your area and help the farmers out.
Still working on the binding. The way I see it, two more evenings and it will be done. Heading over to Dd#2 for dinner this evening. Hope to get some bills done today and some sanding.
Stay cool. Ginny

Hello Crafters Phyl - I'm glad your back feels better after your appointment. Hope you enjoy making the Jelly Snowflake quilt. I saw that Pat Sloan is going to have another quilt along with this same pattern later this year. She is going to try to slant the pieces of Block 4 like some quilters did, so it looks even more like a snowflake when finished. Ruth - I'm glad you have the birthday gifts all together. Hope you were able to get your living room back in order. I have those hot rooms in my house too, so I sympathize with you. Ginny - Sounds like you are getting close to finishing your binding. Hope you enjoy the dinner with your DD tonight. The star points on the Oh My Stars quilt are snowballed, not flying geese. Here's a link to the PDF pattern: patsloan.typepad.com/files/oh-my-charming-stars-directions-v2-1.pdfI pulled out the fabrics I want to use for the Oh My Stars quilt, but need to pick a few more from my yardage so that I have a border that matches and though I wanted to use a printed fabric for the star center and points, I think I might go with a white on white instead so the stars "pop" out. It's hot here again today, I don't even want to go out and get the mail I just spent a bunch of time looking at quilt pictures on Pat Sloan's Facebook page: www.facebook.com/groups/QuiltWithPatSloan/And I've found at least 4 or 5 more quilts I really want to make. I also saw this quilt that I really love, her fabrics are beautiful together. It's made using Block 3 of Pat Sloan's Going on a Picnic quilt. Here's a closeup picture I need to try to figure out how much yardage this would take and see if I have enough of 3 fabrics to make one. Take care everyone!

CJ, I love that one also! I have to go to that site and look at the rest of the quilts. I love looking at them and wishing I had been a quilter for years so that I could make some of them Ginny, I sorted out my linen closet awhile back and got rid of a bunch of stuff but now it's pretty jumbled up again so I need to do that task once more. I have a bunch of table cloths and I never use any of those. I did give some to my dd but I have a lot of stuff for her already so that it's going to take a mover to get it all to her and maybe she doesn't want it either. I'll find out sometime and then whatever the outcome of that I'll take it wherever. Today I'll work on getting the living room back in order. I had brought a lot of things out here from in my craft room so it needs to go back there or somewhere else. I did do the surface crochet on the sword...the pieces are all done. Now I just have to do the surface crochet on the shield where dgs' name is going to go and maybe a surface crochet edging. Ginny I think you should make this for your grandson. Then he could terrorize his sisters Here's the link www.windingroadcrochet.com/crochet-sword-and-shield-exciting-free-pattern/

I'm so surprised. My surface crochet turned out really good. ONe of the letters could have been done a little bit different but basically it's really good if I do say so myself. It helps that his name is only three straight line letters. Now I have to decide if I want to go around the edge with a little surface border. The shield is gray and his name is in a really nice blue to match the handle on the sword so I think that maybe I'll do a row of surface crochet around the edge in red. Then I just crochet it all together.Dh suggested I use some foam strips he has for the interior of the sword so that it will be more fexible and yet stiffer so that it's not floppy. We'll see how that works out. I still can't believe he is so interested in my crochet projects. It makes me happy

I was looking at that quilt again..the going on a picnice one. The purple blocks make it look like two crosses together so I'm thinking that I have a couple pieces of fabric, one with little churches and the other also with something like that that I could make a quilt with separate crosses. Now I just have to figure out what other fabric I have to make the backgrounds and borders or sashings or whatever is needed. Hey I might TRY to be a beginner quilter. of course that will be after I finish these crochet projects for the birthdays and Christmas

CJ- I get it- it was almost too hot to get out to check the mail. There is supposed to be a mild cold front coming through, and I hope that it does send some cooler (slightly) comes your way too. You must have some stash of fabric there if all you need to do is browse your private supply of fabric to find the perfect fabric to finish the oh my stars quilt! I am sure that you buy fabrics in a color scheme that you like....and have fabrics that will work with that purple and green. (And we know you love purple!!). I do love the going on a picnic quilt- and frequently I am not in love with Pat Sloans fabric choices, but this is so pretty!!! I am sure you will come up with perfect fabrics for you quilt.
Ruth-You go girl! I think that is a a great idea for a quilt and the right fabrics would be so pretty. Looks like its easy to make also- its all squares and should cause no headaches. Hope that you give it a try! So you think I should be able to make a sword and shield for my DGS. You are an optimist- but I am glad you found the pattern easy to work with. Were you able to straighten out your living room?
Gotta go find my outdoor cat....and then hope to work on the quilt G
