I didn't do a thing about the living room today. It will still be cluttered whever I get back to working on it. Ran into a snag when starting to put my sword together. I used the foam like dh suggested but dummy me didn't make it to go to the end of the handle so right where the blade meets the hilt it flopped even with a ton of fiberfill. So dh suggested a fix for me. I pulled out the fiberfill and the foam and he fixed it for me with an extension, braced and held in place with several layers of duct tape. Worked great. Now I just have to finish crocheting around it. I was able to leave one side intact so just have one side to do then the shield. Ginny, yes, this sword and shield are very easy. You would definitely have no problem at all making one. It's all single crochet with a few increases, put together by crocheting it together and fill as you go. The woman that wrote the pattern used fiber fill in hers...she made two sets...and in the pictures it looks they're ok. pics show her little son holding his and it doesn't flop.only thing is that by making it with an H hook the fiberfill shows thru a lot. I think that if I had filled the whole thing with polyfil it would not have flopped like it did but all is well now so it worked out. It's good and solid and should be good for a long time. I hope you had a good evening with your family. and yes, it sounds as though the binding is almost done. Now you can go to your next project.,

gramma14, I laughed about your sword. Ron and I love "forged in fire" on the history channel. It's a blacksmithing competition. They've had swords do that, too

Rene, I LOVE that show. Dh and I look forward to seeing it every week and have it set to record on our DVR.
I'm now waiting for time to go pick up my curbside order. Dh is not feeling well and feels bad that he will be unable to go with me.
After dh got the sword stabilized I was tired of working on it so started a new hat pattern I ran into online yesterday.
See you all later

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - The sword and shield is so cute, thanks for sharing the link. I'm glad you and your DH figured out how to make it more solid, but still safe. Ginny - I do have a lot of fabric, but it mostly theme or novelty fabric which I'm drawn to and is harder to fit into a quilt. A few years ago I tried to limit how much of that fabric I bought. But I don't have anything nearly like what some quilters have. Some of them look like they have their own fabric shop I went to get my updated will, medical directive and POA today. I'm glad to have all those things updated. It was only 7 years ago when I had them done, but things had changed in the lives of people I had designated to help back then. Hopefully this one will last longer, although if I move I'll have to have it amended. After I finished that appointment I went to the grocery store. This used to be one of my favorite things to do, but I hate it now. I'm really tired of buying 3 or more weeks of groceries and I think in September I'm going back to shopping every 7-10 days, or 2 weeks at the most. Hopefully we won't have any food shortages again. I did find some frozen strawberries today, so that was nice. But I wanted a cold rotisserie chicken and they had none of them. It's hot and humid here with some thunderstorms and chances of thunderstorms for the rest of the week. I'm just hoping I don't have any problems with water coming in around my bedroom window. Maybe it will be less several than the hurricane was. I hope to get working on the Oh My Stars quilt. I have all the fabrics picked now and just need to press/starch and cut them. Hope all of your are getting to do some crafting. Take care!

hi crafters, back is so much better today.still can't stand for to long periods. I did get the top of my machine cabinet and cutting table cleared off.
I need to cut 32 more red snowflake squares for my snowflake quilt.mm I can 't read or add.
Ruth I have Essential Thrombocytosis.( high platelets.)found out through A blood Test when I was going to have hip surgery.I thought when they sent my lab work to me it read 8,000
WRONG it was 800,000 ukl.
ok long story short. I WAS SENT TO A ONCOLOGIST.they did the bone morrow right away.Don said they took alot of tubes of blood out of me.Those got sent to ROCHESTER ,MN FOR TESTING.
YES IS IT A GENE MUTATION. PROBABLY BORN WITH IT.I asked why was it not found before. was told if they had no reason to look for IT ,they won't find it.
THIS can go into a rare blood cancer disease or leukemina.so far I AM OK. last I saw DR.Pete he told me we caught it before it went into any of the other stuff .they are trying to keep me from getting those other diseases.
SO i take 2 hydroxyurea( anti-chemo pills.) a day.this had brung down the platelets alot.I SEE MY ONCOLOSGIST 1-2 TIMES A YEAR AND GET LAB WORK DONE ABOUT EVERY 8 WEEKS.
your friend needs to work with a good oncologist. she finds one and for some reason does not like the doctor find a new doctor.this is important.
I did not know I had high platelets.a quilting friend's SO platelets dropped so low he had to be given platelets.long story there also.
platelets can effect different people in different ways. please tell your friend not to spend to much time looking platelets up on the computer.to much information and those disclaimers can be scary.
she will learn to trust her medical team. Phyl

Phyl, I'm glad to hear that your back is getting better. And thank you so much for all the info on the platlet count and what was done for you. I remembered some of it from when you told us before but didn't remember you mentioning if you had a bone marrow or if they found a gene mutation. I'll be showing this info from my friend. It doesn't sound like they've done much testing for her. Now she will know what to ask about when she sees her doctor again which I think is going to be soon. Thanks again

Good evening all- Phyl, it sure sounds as though you are getting excellent medical care and that they are investigating all possibilities. I remember that this was discovered when you were going to have hip surgery. And I give you a lot of credit for living through your discomfort and taking good care of yourself.. It was surely disappointing that you did not have the hip procedure. Its good news that you are feeling better today and I am hoping that you can stay comfortable for a long time.
CJ- glad you got all that legal paperwork taken care of. Its so important to have those documents updated and easy to access for someone having to deal with your affairs. Totally agree with you that its awkward to shop for 3 weeks at a time. Think things have calmed down and its ok to go every other week, or once a week. What color scheme did you select for the Oh My Stars quilt?
Ruth, How do you find all these hat patterns??? Amazing for sure. Hope that Dh is feeling better and that the store got your curbside order right. So much easier than going into the store once you figure out the system.
Rene, how is your machine? Did you end up making a blouse for yourself?
Sue- hope you are staying comfortable and getting some crocheting in.
FInished the BOM quilt. My crafting for the day might be looking for a dog sweater pattern for my friends pit bull. I need a simple pattern....hope to find something easy to put together. Have a good night all G

RUTH YOU ARE WELCOME, One thing your friend has to realize is every doctor and patients are different and may treated in a different way.
I don't remember all the stories I have been told.I have learned platelets can be can do many different things to people
mine were getting so high I could have had a stroke or heart attack. the count was headed for a million.
MY primary care doctor is the one who took the ball and ran with it by making me go the lab before I let the clinic. also found out first visit with my oncologist my doctor tracked him down over the weekend and told him get this woman in the clinic now
I DID go TO A ORTHO HERE. HE FELT IT WAS NOT SO MUCH THE HIP AS THE ARTHRITIS AND DEGENERATION .SENT ME TO THE BACK CLINIC.
Thtt's the first time I got The si injection.
I also need to get back to my pt exercises.

Hello Crafters Phyl - I'm glad to hear your back is better and you were able to get some things cleared in your sewing room. It sounds like you have a very good doctor to be aware of your medical conditions and take action. Ginny - I'm happy to hear your finished your BOM quilt, I bet it looks beautiful all finished. Hope you can find a quick dog sweater pattern. The fabrics for my Oh My Stars quilts are teals/turquoise. It's a fat quarter bundle of fabrics I've had for many years. I didn't realized when I bought it that they were ovarian cancer fabrics, but they are. Maybe if I get the quilt done I could donate it to some charity that offers services to cancer survivors. I got all the fabrics pressed and starched today and starting cutting them but then I received a phone call from a friend and by the time we were done talking I didn't feel like working on it anymore. Hopefully I'll get back to it later today or tomorrow. I did finish piecing the Broken Dishes block for this month. There are 7 done so far, with two more to go (red and yellow). I need to square up these blocks since they are bulky with lots of seams on the back. They are small and finish up at 5 1/2 inches each Here are pictures of all 7 and then just one showing the pink one: We're having thunderstorms around the area today and through Saturday. I'm hoping for not much rain so I don't have any problems in the house. There has been a lot of flooding around the wider metro area. Hope everyone is doing well and that you have a great day!

Yes it sounds like Phyl got a very good PCP. Wish I could say the same for us (dh and I) but I'm really happy with all that was done for you, PHyl.You do live in a great area for medical care with Mayo being close
CJ, yes shopping right now is very stressful. I do like looking around in stores searching for bargains and I don't like anyone else picking out my fresh fruit and veggies but this curbside pickup is working very well for me. Yesterday they even picked out some good bananas and three good cucumbers...that's all the fresh things I ordered. Walmart, though, is always out of stock on a lot of things so we finally..after compiling our list for three weeks and having things in and out of stock, went ahead and ordered. I've already started a list for next time and everything I put on it is out of stock right now.
I finished the sword and am almost finished with the shield. It's so cute. All I have to do on the shield is put on the little holder that you put your arm through and it's done. I started another hat with a pattern that I saw that is really nice. The ribbed band is done with slip stitches which I thought and always heard takes much longer but I didn't find it to be a problem. The only thing is the body of the hat looks awfully large so I may have to rip it out and do over with less starting stitches. I'll see how it looks when I get more done.
Today is dh's birthday so I'll probably spend the day visiting with him. No going out to eat or anything and he's waiting until it's cooler to have his cake sice we have no a/c up here to cool the kitchen and, of course, baking a cake for an hour would really heat up the house. He had some in the freezer from the last cake so he ate that last week.

Hi Ruth - We were posting at the same time I hope your DH has a nice birthday. I'm glad you finished the sword, I bet it is cute. I'm also glad that grocery curbside pick up is working for you. I saw several employees going around the store yesterday filling up bags for grocery pickup.

CJ, we must have been typing at the same time. ONce again you have shared beautiful quilts with us. I love both of those. Yes teal is the color for ovarian cancer and I've been planning to make something in teals also. You could donate your quilt to an oncology center where people go for threatment as it sometimes is pretty chilly in those places. You would make someone's day and people with ovarian cancer sure need all the help they can get with feeling better emotionally since ovarian cancer is one of the worst as far as prognosis goes.
Ginny I forgot to congratulate you on finishing the binding. I really don't care for hand sewing so I'd probably procrastinate forever. I see a lot of people on those fb crochet groups making dog "clothing". I really think that most animals don't like being dressed. When my brother was here with his miniature Pinscher he had clothing for him and the dog didn't seem to mind though. I don't know of any particular pattern but I bet you could find one on ravelry or pinterest. Are you going to crochet it? If I see one I'll send you the link

Most of the patterns I just saw are paid patterns and look complicated but I found this one that looks really nice, is free, simple, and you can make it to any size. www.mooglyblog.com/well-dressed-dog-coat/
