Good evening! A super busy week draws to a close for me. Gotta say, I was such a happy camper getting home and getting in my jammies. It's cold and rainy here - very raw- and being warm and fuzzy sure feels good!!
Ruth - hope you got some crafting time in. But you know the rules, absolutely - opening that box and checking out your new yarn counts. So does checking out the new Hershner catalog. I do think it's a lovely tradition to carry - to use that yarn given to you by your friend to make a blanket for your first great granddaughter.
Meg- so good to hear from you! Glad that your infusion went well and that there is only one more to go! Did you keep your power for the day with the high winds? Oh- good thing you replace that old fridge. They say refrigerators should be replaced every t0 years to use less electricity.
Phyl- glad that one of us is inspired to clean!!! I am disappointed that you will not help me with my messy house, but am glad that yours is getting done. Have fun cleaning the junk drawer. It's usually an adventure seeing what is in there!
What a long day and a long week! Babysitting and working for me today, leaving me no time to craft. Dh is going out for the morning...so I will be checking out some kind of project to work on.
Have a great night Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Phyl - I bet it feels good to get some cleaning done. I worked on my kitchen last year and only have one cabinet left to go through - yes it's the junk one Ginny - The quilt appraiser had several reference books and she is also an expert at looking at fabric and giving it an average date. She said that the fabric in my quilt, and the construction wasn't from that long ago. Have fun picking the fabrics for your project Ruth - I'm glad you're enjoying the gloves you are making, and have picked a blanket pattern for your dgd's baby. Hope the snow goes away soon Meg - I'm glad they found a vein so you could get your iron infusion, hope that makes you feel better. Glad to hear you're getting some knitting in. I had my monthly lunch with some ladies I met several years ago. Lunch and conversation was good. I went to a local quilt store today, since it was close to where we ate lunch. I picked up two different pink fabrics, a light gray, and a blue fabric. This past weekend, I bought a Charm Square pack of fabrics from the Poetry line by Moda, here's a link to a page that shows all the colors: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Poetry-Layer-Cake-by-3-Sisters-for-Moda-Fabrics-P47150.aspx?categoryid=3618I'm thinking about using it to make the Falling Charms quilt by Missouri Star Quilt Company - here's a link to the video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KkpbFKBaKASo I'll have to decide if I want a light pink, darker pink, or the light gray to use as the solid color. I also decided on what fabrics I'll use for my three weekly blocks and hope to get them done this weekend. Take care everyone.

I'm glad I stopped back in. Now I've seen everyone but Phyl today.
Meg, I forgot to mention that I'm glad they found a vein today. I had my old fridge for 23 years and it finally died so I had to buy a new one. The new one only lasted 15 months so I hope you have better luck.
Cj, sounds like you got some great fabic and will be very busy this weekend. I'm going to go check those sites you posted.
Ginny, enjoy the weekend off and esp the morning that you'll have all to yourself. I hope you have a great project in mind.
I don't remember if I mentioned it here or not but yesterday it was 65 today snow all day and it's till snowing.Good thing I was able to get out yesterday.
Funny thing about this fingerless glove pattern is that the designer shows several pictures of the gloves and in each one it shows three design rows but the pattern calls for four design rows.I only did two. The design, of course is only on the back of the hand.
I did get some patterns organized into the correct folders and I've also done some crocheting but not much yet so rest of the evening will be that and reading. See you all tomorrow.Oh and today I ordered some beads for some beaded bracelets. With all the craft supplies I have I'd better spend more time on crafting instead of other things.

Good morning! CJ, I checked out both your fabric selection and the quilt that you might be making. Looks like a lovely very soft and feminine quilt. Have fun finding the right fabric! I am anxious to see what you pick, the light pink, darker pink or gray.
Ruth, where did you order the beads from ? I usually get mine at Michaels... have never done the online ordering for them. I think the fingerless glove saga is a good story, you have really been through the ringer with all the work getting the bugs out of the directions and now finding that the pictures do not represent the pattern well .
We are going to visit with some of Dh's former coworkers this evening. Hope it's not too boring . I would much rather be home playing with fabric.
Dh is heading out soon. I will probably have 3 or 4 hours to myself. BBL Ginny

Ginny, enjoy your "me" time this morning and I do hope your evening won't be either too boring or too anything else....just enjoyable.
The pic of the gloves is the second pair that I'm working on. The pic with the faux cable ones is a correct picture of those gloves and even the picture of the second pair is ok but doesn't show the four rows the pattern has you make. When she actually made a pair the designer must have found that her's also turned out too wide if she followed her own instructions. I like the way mine look with the two rows of design so I'm happy with them. I can't imagine how a person could get all four of those rows on the back of the gloves. You'd have to used a much smaller hook than the D she suggests and then it wouldn't work well with the yarn. Each design row has a plain double crochet row and a half double crochet row in between. The other thing is that she has you do the second design row in the front loop only so that it doesn't come out matching the first design row so you really have to make them both in the front loop or both in the front loop to have them match. Sometimes the designers get too creative.
I found out this pink yarn I have has, like many yarns, been discontinued. I'll have to do a search to find a compatible yarn or else get creative and see if I can figure out a pattern in which I can use this with other yarn. It's called a bulky yarn but it's lite and fluffy so I think Baby Clouds is too thick.Maybe that has even been discontinued. They seem to discontinue yarns often and go on to new ones they bring out.

I hope you are all enjoying a happy Saturday. The sun has died down and the sun is shining. Last evening I started an afghan which I think will be big enough for my DGD in Florida. I made her 2 afghans when she was a little girl and she still has them but would like something bigger. So I will try and oblige. Devin and his Mom are off for the weekend. I think Devin is with his other grandmother. I hope to have Janet home this afternoon so I need to go and pick up around here before she comes.
Ruth, perhaps some people shouldn't write patterns if they can't get them right. I hipe you can work out the mistakes.
Ginny, you did have a busy week the baby sitting alone can wear you out especially is the kids are very young. I hope you have a very restful weekend.
I will check back later. Have a wonderful day.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Sounds like everyone is busy with projects, which sound very interesting. I cut out the fabrics for my 3 weekly quilt blocks this week, and also pressed some other fabric for another project I want to do. I hope to put the 3 blocks together tomorrow and I better work on my Easter quilt next week or it will be Easter before it's done! Now that I look at the fabrics I bought yesterday, I'm not that happy with some of them to use with the charm packs I have. So I'll have to think about it some more. Take care everyone!

Meg, you're right about that. People should test their own patterns before posting them. I think some people just like to see their names in print. Some actually ask for volunteers to test their patterns which would be a good thing to do. Some post that they haven't tested the pattern so if you find a mistake let them know.At least those people are letting you know that you might actually find a mistake or two and you can be on the lookout or just use a different pattern.
My crafting today has consisted of doing what Phyl did the other day.... untangling the yarn that I'm using for this second pair of gloves. The pull skein fell apart so I had to roll it into a ball and what a mess. Dh asked why I didn't just cut it...nope, can't let it get the best of me.As I've mentioned, I'm stubborn.Meg do you still find that pound of love is the worst at the pull skein falling apart?
Also Meg, I know your grandaughter will love the afgan you make her. If she still has the ones you made her when she was a child then she obviously cherishes them and all the love and work that went into them. When we take the time to make something for someone it's wonderful when they feel as your grandaughter does about that item or items.
I think I finally have decided on the pattern I'll use for the baby blanket. Since I don't have enough for a whole blanket I'm going to make a granny rectangle and I'll get some Bernat ...well oops senior moment... I've forgotten what the yarn is called but it will work well with this Plymouth Heaven lite that I have and it will end up nice and soft and cuddly.
So ok, I'm not going to go and do some real crocheting. I have to make the second glove of this pair. I didn't do much yesterday on it and dd's bday is the 17th so I want to have a couple things done for her and a few pairs of fingerless gloves to show her when we go over there for her bday and also Easter get together. So I'll see you all later.

ok, I just got an email from Herrschner's that said shipping will be 1 cent for 3 days, then I went to the site and the Bernat pipsqueak is a great price also so I was able to order the yarn for the rest of the blanket...yes one more example of how I have a while room full of yarn but don't have the one I need.I'm sure there's lots of other things I could have ordered from them but I quickly got out of there before I did

Ruth, I am glad you found the yarn you needed to finish your blanket. Ain't that the truth more yarn than we know what to do with but not the one we need. The afghan I started I am doing the V stitch so that is a good stash buster.
It has been a busy day here as DD was here and we were moving refrigerators around to make room for the new one coming on Tue, Now it is time to pack it in. No crocheting for me today.

good and happy sunday morning. today is my bday and we are meeting the girls at ground round tonight. think I better call dgs kyle and let him know. I did some knitting last night. really need to get to my playpen and work on the quilting projects.
cj lay out the colors and then walk away from them for a day or two.see if that helps. sometimes we need a break and need to look at the projects again. I have had to do this if I had a problem with quilting.
ok knitters here is something I will pass on. when delona and I took the cable class to learn how to follow a chart. karen told us designers were changing how they give directions. some are not written out and you have to follow the charts. also don't buy a book or pattern without reading it and making sure you know and understand the abbrerations and can do it.she also said do not memorize abberations and each desinger has their own.
found out this hold for quilting also.
enjoy your day today. phyl

Good morning Phyl and a very happy birthday I've seen a lot of patterns lately that have charts but, although I think I know what they're saying in charts now, I like to have the written pattern, Yes many designers seem to have their own interpretations of commonly used terms. I finished the second glove last evening but when I say I finished it just means I finished the main glove and haven't seamed it yet or done any edging. I need a finisher . I have a list of the fingerless glove patterns that I'm going to make and I'll just go down the list. Some in my file didn't make my list for right now but I'll work on some of them later. I do have a couple little things to make for dd's bday as I mentioned yesterday so I'll get them completely done but today I think I'll do my taxes and get that out of the way. Tomorrow I'll dig out my tomato seed planting equipment and clean my oven. Just what you all wanted to know...all the details of my life Please pray for a friend of mine on another thread. She recently lost her husband and now she isn't feeling well and her dd who is a nurse has taken her to the ER. Could be the grief catching up with her or, of course, something else.I don't want to publically post her name in case she doesn't want that but God knows who she is so when we pray He already knows.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Phyl - HAPPY BIRTHDAY - Hope you have a wonderful day and an enjoyable birthday dinner tonight. Thanks for the advice on putting the fabrics aside for a few days, I will do that before I decide if I still want to use one. Ruth - I'm glad you found a deal on that yarn. Sounds like you are very busy with lots of projects. Iwill keep your friend in my prayers and hope she is alright. Do you grow a lot of tomatoes each year? My father used to have a really large garden, he definitely had a green thumb. I didn't get that talent from him Meg - I hope everything goes well with the delivery of your new refrigerator, and your craft projects. Ginny - Hope you are doing well today I put together the three weekly quilt blocks today, and the smallest one gave me more problems than the larger ones. I've learned a good lesson with participating in these mystery quiltalongs. I don't like that I won't know what type of quilting style they will be, i.e., patchwork or applique and size of the blocks. The Moda Blockheads is going to have 8 or so applique blocks, so I have to do substitute blocks for those since I don't really want to bother with applique on a 6 inch quilt block. I made a substition block today and it wasn't large enough when I finished it, so I just added a small border around it to get to the right size block. Also on the Solstice quilt when she gives the instructions for a 12 inch block, she kind of haphazardly gives them and I've had to adjust things several times because of that (that happened today). If I'd known this quilt was going to have all these different size blocks, I probably wouldn't have participated. But now that I've done 15 of the 25 blocks, I don't want to stop. I also put borders around a Toile fabric piece that I bought at the quilt show last week. It measures 26 inches wide by 23 inches high and the material is 100% cotton, but a heavier weight (probably more for use as curtains, chair covers, etc.). The colors are a royal blue design on an antique white/cream background. So I took 1 1/2 inch strips of a blue fabric and of a cream/off white fabric and added 5 rows of borders to this piece. I started with a row of blue, then white, then blue, then white, and finished it with the blue. I really like the way it came out. It will make a pretty wall hanging or something to throw over the back of furniture. I also cut out the fabric pieces to finish that HoneyBee block from a few weeks back. I'm going to practice the blanket stitch and then use that stitch to stitch them on the block. And finally last yesterday I finished the binding on the single block that I had hand pieced and hand quilted. I probably won't be doing much quilting the next few days, I just needed to take advantage of feeling motivated today Take care everyone.

Good evening!!! Phyl, a very happy birthday to you! Hope you had a lovely day. Indeed you are always full of good tips for us for our crafting endeavors. Thanks. Ruth glad you got the second glove done- well sort of. Yes, indeed it's a good idea to get those darned taxes done. Sometimes software crashes from too many folks using it, so I think doing your taxes with a few days to spare is a good idea. Of course will remember your friend in prayer. Got a long prayer list tonight. You sure found a great deal on Hersheners!!! Wow, I am impressed. Meg, I hope you are getting plenty of help moving stuff around in preparation for the new refrigerator. Hope the delivery on Tuesday goes well and that the installation is a breeze. CJ- well......you will just have to get more fabric to work with all the fabric you have?! . Does not sound like too much of a hardship to me.....but I do know finding the right fabric combination can be a challenge. We went to a friends house for dinner last night, got home at 11- which is super late for me. Today has been a bit challenging...got to church this am and then tried to get my house back in order a little. BBL G
