Ruth, at least here, most repair individuals are very respectful of this “covid” climate. I am really happy and thankful for you and Dh that they are attempting to make this right. good news indeed....and I will pray that this can be fixed in a fair manner with the least disruption to you.
Phyl- the tradition is called “sitting shiva” - and normally its a 7 day period of mourning and visiting the bereaved. Of course each family will handle this in a way which is best for them...also depending upon how orthodox the family is will help determine how this period of “sitting shiva” is handled. its a period of time intended to help those closest to the deceased begin the slow process of mourning and a return to “normal” life.
Got a little bit of cutting done...now will unload the dishwasher - cut some more.....and leave the television off. G

also the meal right after returning from the cemetary is called the Seudat Havra’ah and contains lentils, bread and eggs. It's consided a good mitzvah (good deed basically) to provide the Seudat Havra'ah for a family. During the time of sitting shiva they are supposed to sit on low stools or chairs and cover all mirrors. My dh's step grandfather was Jewish but was a non practicing Jew and certainly didn't keep kosher. The only wave toward kosher was that at Christmas he wouldn't eat the ham and his wife had to make him his own chicken breast. Of course he did eat other pork and even ham when he felt that he wanted a ham sandwich. He claimed sandwich ham was different. He was an, shall I say, interesting man but then so was dh's grandmother.

Ginny, yes I was wondering if he would be wearing a mask. I went into Dollar Tree when we were out last Tues and there weren't very many customers but most had on a mask. The cashier didn't.
And yes, here I am whining about my water heater when so many people have lost their entire home due to hurricanes or fires. I need to be more grateful for what I do have.

Its not uncommon in many faiths to maintain traditions even if the daily observation of faith is not kept....But some fall back on these traditions because they bring comfort and a reminder of a better time.

Quiet here today.....got a feeling I will hit send and find that two posts have snuck in on me!
Ruth, just hoping that this water heater problem can be resolved quickly and in the most fair manner possible for you and Dh. I have had two contractors here (both to give estimates on the wood burner stove situation) and both wore masks....or at least asked if I wanted them to wear them. Both very professional about it also. Here there is a hotline and a facebook page where you can report poor mask compliance to the county. From what I heard we are getting a large number of individuals from the urban areas who want to come to the country to go apple picking....but the county is asking for masks and social distancing. Guess that is not happening a lot. Totally agree with you about being thankful for what you have...which I know you are. Bet it seemed like a bit of a slap in the face, however- here you waited a fair amount of time to get the parts needed (and were able to get a special deal on Tuesdays...) and then the tank itself is faulty. Hope that this next stage of repair goes quickly for you.
Slept really poorly last night...worked this am and then Dd and DGD#2 and DGS#2 came over. Good visit.....she was calm, which was good to see. DGD and I made pumpkin shaped sugar cookies...something I did with my own kids when they were little. Fun day. Thought I would have a quiet afternoon, then my friend wanted to walk - so I did.....Dd#2 called, she and DSIL were supposed to come over for dinner but she has a cold. So I will see them tomorrow night if she is feeling better.
Thinking that perhaps I will get a little bit of crocheting in. g

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - I hope you can get the water heater situation worked out. Ginny - Hope you sleep better tonight, maybe the walk helped. The pumpkin shaped cookie making sounds fun. It's a lot cooler here today after some rain yesterday evening. It was in the 80s on Monday and only in the 60s today. I like the cooler weather. I finished the machine quilting on that piece I started a few days ago. I just used my regular Brother machine to do it. I only had one other piece that I had the batting and backing ready for, so I might try and work on that soon. I know how I want to quilt this one, so it should be easier. I also need to work on the quilt block for the FaLaLa Sew Along and hope to get it done by Sunday before the new block comes out on Monday. I bought the Fall/Winter Quilt Sampler magazine last month and just looked through it today. I didn't care for many of the quilts that the shops gave patterns for. I guess the types of quilt patterns and fabrics I like aren't in fashion right now. I don't worry about it because quilting always comes back around to an older fashion again Hope you all get to do some crafting and are having nice weather.

hi girls, Thank you girls.
Mike and Nancy don't do the Jewish cooking. I know his mom does on those holidays...
today went to Walmart looking for kitchen type rugs. nothing. they have small area rugs ,more for decor.mats and runners. have one more place to try.alot of rugs we look at do not have the stuff on back so they don't slide.
Then is was Target CVS to pick up a Script.
talked to THERESA they got another mouse.they can hear it in the garage/living room wall..that garage is only used for storage.they have their cars in other building on the lot.
Ruth we are human. we get frustrated when things don't go right.I think most of us are grateful..sometimes we just have to rant.to relive stress. even just a little bit of stress.
Don put a new plug in for me on one of walls by the wall where I plug in my iron.getting to hard to get down low to plug it in.phyl

Ginny, I'm sorry you didn't sleep well and I hope that after being so tired with no sleep, work, and family coming over, that you'll sleep well tonight. Is there any news on your new mattress? Then you got good exercise going for the walk.
Phyl, I learned all I know about Judaism from Muriel on the old board. Do you remember her? She explained all the holidays and events to me and also sent me recipes.I also have done some online reading about it
Well I started my third button cowl last night but didn't get very far so I was working on it earlier today. Then I decided to not do that one because I realized I want to use that yarn for something else. So now I'm working on a completely different one that I found accidentally on youtube. It's easy and very nice. It has bead stitch and hdc's in the back loop and also in the third loop so has nice texture. I'm going to use this for one of the Christmas pocket shawls.

Ruth, I always enjoy hearing of how you find new patterns to crochet with and your plans for them. So glad you found that new cowl pattern, which sounds awfully pretty. Good to hear that it is easy too, so you won’t have to be too stressed about making it as gifts. What project will you be using the yarn for (that you started using for a cowl and decided to repurpose the yarn?). How many cowls do you plan on making? Hoping for positive progress and good news on the hot water heater!!!
As I have many cousins who are Jewish, i went to my share of bas mitzvahs and bar mitzvahs as a kid....weddings etc... too. I do not know well but am comfortable with some of the Jewish traditions, but would never be considered an expert.
Phyl, does Walmart.com have any rugs that you are looking for? (Not sure about size or function). I know Walmart’s web site has a ton more than is available in the store, and returns from their web site at the store are super easy. Hope you can find exactly what you are looking for. CJ- you and I must have some similarities in taste...a lot of modern quilts are just not to my taste, and I much prefer older designs....love that traditional look. Have you figured out how you will accomplish the embroidered panel in the Falala quilt? I know you were disappointed in your initial try to embroider, and its tough to do without a prestamped fabric. Got total confidence in you regarding quilting with your old brother. What is your game plan for quilting that piece that is your next project to quilt??
I was on standby again this am (only for a short while, before I had to work with another driver). So I did get some crocheting in. Looks like I will have to buy more POL- which seems absurd because I am making this pocket shawl to get rid of extra yarn. Not sure if Dd and her Dh are coming over for dinner tonight....either tonight or tomorrow is planned.
Lovely fall weather here.....see ya later Ginny

Hello Crafters It's beautiful weather here today, sunny with mild/cool temps - I love October weather. Ginny - Hope you are able to pick up some more yarn this weekend. Phyl - That was nice of your DH to put that new outlet in for you. Hope you can find a rug that works for you. Ruth - Hope the cowl is coming along. Sue and Rene - Hope you are doing some crafting. I finished the first block for the Fa La La Sew Along. I just decided to go with plain fabrics without any printed theme. The red, light green and dark green fabrics are all from the same Moda line and I liked the swirl design in them. The white fabric has a holly design. I think just using these 4 fabrics will make the table runner have a classic-style look and I'm happy with that. Here's a picture of the first block: Take care everyone!

Well, I did not blow myself up this afternoon and successfully changed two light switches.....nothing in comparison to Ruth and her Dh installing a water heater of course.

CJ, I love it!! I'm sure the other blocks too will all work with this one and it will be yet another great quilt top
Thank you all for the good wishes on my water heater. I have to do a little cleaning before the plumber gets here tomorrow morning. I don't really know any plumbers so I went alphabetically with the list that came up online and the first said they couldn't be here until the 14th so I politely declined and called another. This one, at least, I've heard of before.
Ginny, so sorry you have to buy more yarn. That's the problem with Crocheting and knitting and probably with quilting also. You want to use up what you have then you find you need more for your present project then end up with more leftovers to do something with. And now that you told me about the sale I have to go and check it ...actually I'm sure I won't buy any. I really have more than a lifetime's worth of yarn. Only problem is, and I've mentioned it before I know, most of it I don't have enough of to make anything of any size.
