Ruth, sorry that the hot water tank has a small leak...which, as you said it’s highly likely that a dry gasket has to swell now that its put into service. Its quite a testimony to Dh’s and your plumbing prowess that the unit has been installed. An plumbers are not cheap- think the going rate might be about $100 an hour. Yikes. Hope that whatever the fix is for the situation - which is hopefully is that the gasket swells and self seals- is easy for you and Dh.
Going for a hike today with my friend and her husband today. Its a humid day...not the best day for this but we are going today because schools are closed for Yom Kippur. I did get some cutting done last night on the Christmas panel quilt. It took awhile to wade my way through the directions which do give most of the information needed to make the panel quilt but could be more descriptive. But I got it figured out and hope by the end of the week to have the top assembled. Also hope by the end of the week to have the new walking foot and stitch in the ditch foot.
See ya later. Ginny

My friend has an absolutely adorable quilt, think its just made up of 3 inch squares and is somewhat scrappy in fabric selection. Anyway (and Ruth brought this up) its tied. My double irish chain is tied, I chose to make the ties minimal so that they are not really seen and the ends are clipped on the back of the quilt. My friends quilt is tied, and because its more of a country look, the tails were clipped short, but are still visible...and its adorable. Sorry, I forgot to mention that earlier. G

Actually it went from a small leak to a disatrous situation. Well ok I'm not going to get over dramatic. But the water heater is unusable. And, Again not because of anything we did. It's leaking from some place inside and as we kept checking it we found that it had run from wherever it's leaking from which is inside, and filled the little electrial box where the wires are. So we have wires swimming. Of course we immediately ran to turn the power to it off.I did post about it last night but deleted my post. I'm waiting to hear from the company now as they have a huge sign on the water heater not to return it to the place you bought it. So now we have to uninstall this one and install another which we will probably end up having to pay for as they will blame us I'm sure...sorry to be so negative but in my esperience that's what happens .

Hello Crafters Ruth - I'm so sorry to hear about the problems with the water heater. I'm glad you were able to turn the power off before anything happened! I hope the company will help you, but if not I hope you can get a working water heater set up soon. It's never easy, is it? Ginny - I'm glad you are making progress on your Christmas panel quilt. Hope you can get it done by the end of the week. I tied a flannel quilt that I made years ago. I like the idea of tying with the strings to the back. I do have a bunch of quilts that I want to hand quilt - who knows if I'll ever get those done I'm just taking a break from things right now until I feel like doing something again. I've been kind of "blah" in all things in my life right now and that is probably playing into my disappointment with the quilting. I did some more work on the embroidery for the FaLaLa sew along and I hate what I've made. I may just pass on doing the embroidery and put another fabric in the square that was supposed to be for the small embroidery pieces. They released the first quilt block today for this sew along. If you'd like to see some that people have already finished and posted, you can check them on their facebook page: www.facebook.com/groups/SewQuiltyFriends.JacquelynneSteves/photos/Take care everyone

CJ- inspiration will return to you when its time...I know a flannel quilt seems to lend itself to tying perhaps a bit more than a quilt make with calico, but I did tie my Irish chain....and am happy with it. I hope you can find a way to deal with it in a way that you like it and that you can accomplish. Its the one big snag of quilting....how to finish the quilts in a way we like. I like the idea of replacing the embroidered panel with another coordinating fabric (and thus eliminating the need for embroidery). Or you could machine embroider something (not sure what your machine is capable of) or even applique something of your choice. You have a great eye for this.....and I am sure will find something that you like and that is fun. (This is supposed to be an enjoyable process, right?)
Ruth, Oh I am so sorry...that does not sound good at all with regards to your hot water tank. I wonder how the company can possibly attempt to blame this situation on you and Dh- but as we all know, they might attempt to. No you do not sound overly dramatic, and well, if you did that would be ok. You and Dh worked hard to install a product that is faulty. As you and Dh have done this before, well that is in your favor. I will pray that the company stands by their product and that another replacement water heater is available. Many appliances are on back order...due to factory shutdowns during the Covid pandemic.
Nice hike today....a bit tired.....glad to be home. Not sure I will get any crafting in today..... Have a good evening’ Ginny

hi girls, have not been her for awhile.went to my sewing area afetr lunch. not there for long I did add the piece to the top of the jelly roll flying geese block. so now have one block done for sure.
CJ I went to the site.I like the blocks. the one I like the best is the gold star one with blue satin stitch along the seams.
several years ago they came out with do not tie baby blankets. cause babies change the little toes and fingers caught in the ties.same advice about crocheted blankets.guess it depends who you are giving the projects to.
Ruth I noticed your question on another thread..some of the other posters and I will agree with you about the posting.the answer she came back with is not her.
her world is getting smaller.
their is alot of things we don't know about the situation now and what happened a few years ago. PHYL

CJ, as Ginny said, you have a great eye for choosing fabric and how to put them together. I'm sure that an inspriation will hit you soon and you'll be making another beautiful quilt top. I'm sorry the embroidered one discouraged you but I also know that you will find a great solution. Thanks for posting that site. They have some wonderul blocks and quilts on there. Ginny, how did the hike go. I know you said you are now tired but it sure was a lot of good exercise. Did the doctor say anything about walking when you saw him about your hip? Yes crafting can wait but I'm glad you were able to get the directions all sorted out so it probably won't take you long now to complete those.
Phyl, the reason I asked that question is because on Saturday I checked the September freedoms thread to check on Jenny since her husband passed away recently. And on that thread was a VERY well composed and coherent message posted by supposedly Doris and she had also posted (again supposedly) on the game threads and did fine there too. I just have a hard time, having been around a lot of people with various forms of dementia, that she could do that and have all the problems her daughter claims she has. I guess I'm just a paranoid person and wondering what people's motives are.
Well I didn't hear from the water heater company today so if I don't have an answer to my email by tomorrow I'll call both the store where I bought it and call the actual company that distributes these heaters.
Dh and I were going to go on a couple day trip but the area we were planning to go to is in flames. So far it's 80,000 acres and only 2% contained. That's really a huge shame because there is so much wildlife in that area. Elk, Moose, bears, and all the usual small wild animals.

morning everyone yes we all know dementia is a very hard disease hard on the patient and hard on the family.why some can get mean/anger and others are not is a mystery.
Ruth the reply to you last night ,first time I read it sounded like a lot of anger.second time not so much. to me still does not sound like Doris.
still something is not right.
Not sure what I will do today.like to try and do some sewing today. we will be a little warmer then yesterday.
have a good day. phyl

I should stay out of this conversation entirely....but most people with dementia do not speak about it....as in admit it. Yes dementia is tough and challenging- my mom had a mild case of it and she tried super hard to hide it...its such a difficult disease...Sue deals with it daily with her Dh. So sad indeed.
Phyl- hope you can get some sewing time in today. What are you working on ??
Ruth, I fully support the squeaky wheel theory....call as many different entities about this hot water tank as you can until you get some satisfaction. I would not even wait for tomorrow...(which might be today)- call as soon as you can... document each person you spoke with....complete with date and time of call. Good luck. That is awful about the area being up in flames....I heard on the television that there is no sign of relief in sight for rain for your area. Hope that the fires can be put out and that you and Dh can get out for your trip.
Got some crocheting in this am....hope to quilt in a wee bit. BBL Ginny

Yesterday I spent a fair amount of time with some issues about the closing of my sister's house which is scheduled for Wednesday but needed some kind of court approval to avoid a fifteen day waiting period. I received the info on Friday, but there was an error, so I couldn't/wouldn't return the signature pages. return the signature pages. Info corrected, so I had to go into town yesterday. Phone calls, emails. My young 24 year old real estate agent deserves special recognition for going above and beyond the call of duty in getting the signaure in another state.
Since I had to pick up a prescription, I also did some necessary grocery shopping. J was doing that for me, but he sort of forgot to tell me that he was starting a new job and wasn't going to be able to continue. With everything else that's happening right now, I'm a little irked that he didn't tell and hasn't followed through on some other things. Not like him at all. It's not a big deal to arrange to pick up my order or use instacart for delivery. It's just one more thing to do.
There have been some more eye opening experiences at home with hb. He doesn't want anyone, including me, touching his things, but over the weekend, he pulled an expired med out of a drawer. So I need to go through bathroom drawers, cabinets, bedroom drawers and remove anything that could cause a safety or health problem. He compulsively saves empty pill bottles, papers, and other things in his nightstand drawer and can't find the things he needs because it's full of junk.
There appears to more cognitive loss as a result of the hypoglycemia and ER episode. The doctor emphasized that at hb's age, it'a far better to have a slightly higher blood sugar level than one that's too low. I don't know how long the hypoglycemic episode was.
Hospice has not called to arrange an initial meeting and orientation.
So the days are a combination of good and bad, just more extreme than usual. The smoke has cleared, and fall is happening. The air is crisper. One of these days, I may have more recreational time.

Sue, yes, as you already know your hubby could do a lot of damage to himself if he takes some med or other substance that he thinks is his medication. Handling his diabetes himself is definitely not a good idea. I'm sorry you have to go throught this. So many people do nowdays. It's more time consuming and worrisome than taking care of a little baby because this is an adult man who has a mind of his own so to speak. I hope you get help from Hospice or some agency that provides care of help with care of those with this devastating condition
Ginny, no you shouldn't stay out of the conversation. It's on your thread plus you have knowledge of how demential works.Phyl has met these people in person. I haven't but those of us who were on the over 60's all feel as those Doris and her family are part of our families also because of all the details that Doris has shared over the years. We were there when the granddaughters were born and know about the rest of her family, their time as missionaries in Japan, about them adopting the children, etc
Phyl, the answer I got was more evidence to me that it isn't really Doris posting although the statement about not liking to be alone made me wonder in a way. but it could have also been the daughter providing "proof" that she has to stay home all the time but in all actuallity it proves to me that the daughter didn't tell the truth when she said they never leave Doris alone. I think that Doris, when she did post, was told by her daughter that she was not to post so many details anymore such as where everyone went when they did leave her alone. But I'm sure all this is very boring to Ginny and CJ. Sue also "knows" Doris but they, of course, don't.I'm just really concerned about Doris' safety and wonder about a lot of things in regard to that but as I am the one "outside looking in". I can only speculate but I do think that I'm pretty intuitive. That being said, it's really none of my business. I'll just keep praying for her

Sue, prayers for you regarding the closing of your sisters house and all that you must do to keep the house safe from Dh. You will find he might squirrel things into the strangest places.....expect that. Not sure how or why the mind works that way, but I know from having to go through everything of my mom’s I was astounded at seeing that she tried to hide things from me (and the others in her assisted living facility) and just how silly it was. Not sure what she was thinking when she “stole” a ton of silverware from the dining hall- put it in her purse...of course I found that. And the stale cookies that were under her bed in with her beading supplies....the cookies were over a year old.... I can go on and on... Just know that there is a part of your Dh who is there, but is not really there- and unfortunately knowing the person who is not there is impossible to know. Hugs to you as you go through this journey. Prayers that hospice calls soon and steps in so you can get some time for yourself.
Ruth, its no surprise to you how very much we can learn about a person from their tone in their texting or posting. Like dealing with a patient using “teledoc” - there are many clues that are there for the observant who choose to pick those clues up. I just hope that Doris is ok....and if she is in need of care is getting the care she needs and is being treated well.
Went to work this am.....got to the food store too- as our wonderful governor had alerts sent out because Covid counts are on the rise. So before every last roll of toilet paper is sold out, Ds and I went to the store. For me it was only a day early.
Think I am going to go finish putting the groceries away (almost done with that), straighten up the house a little bit and see what the afternoon brings. Not going to watch the presidential debate- it will just annoy me and I am confident in the person I am going to vote for.

i'm glad to hear that you got stocked up on necessities, Ginny. Dh ordered a huge pack of tp online so we're set if things do close down again.
Well I talked to the company and they're sending a tech to check out the heater, if it needs repair he will do that and if it's not repairable he will arrange to have a new one delivered and installed. I still have a bad feeling about this. Anyway, like CJ, I DO NOT like people in my house and neither does dh. Tech is supposed to be calling to set up an appt so I have to have my phone near. Meanwhile I'll do some straightening up also and vacuum some too the sit and crochet.
