Ginny, especially when it's something you already have a plan for, you do have to take advantage of all free shipping offers I like the star row on that quilt too. There are some quilts that I don't really care for but most I do really like and I've liked all of CJ's so far CJ, I'm glad you got the refrigerator and it wasn't much of a problem getting it into the house and the old one out. Yes I've heard that it takes a couple days for the temperature to get to where it should be. I hope all goes well. When I bought my refrigerator I also bought a stove and washing machine. I had to call and have them deliver a new washer because the one they brought didn't work correctly and I really should have done the same with the fridge because it never did really work as it should have before it did finally completely bite the dust 16 months later. I sure hope you will have no problem at all. Most people don't. Ginny, dd's procedure went well and after spending the night she was able to go home today. After having rained earlier which seems to have been a very wide area that got rain,...most of eastern Wy and part of Co... it now is bright and sunny although not very warm.I hope it rained on that large fire.

Good evening Phyl- hope that your shoulders are no longer hurting- were you able to get into the chiropractor??
CJ- indeed that is great news that you have a new refrigerator!! Glad they got the old one out and the new one in- sounds like it took place without a problem. And now you have cleaned all those funky places that we never get to!! Ha, ha ha. Of course the process of moving everything in and out and then putting the house back together is exhausting. Bet you are glad its over with and now you do not have to worry about your refrigerator breaking on you. May this one last you as long as you need. Not sure how Pat Sloane keeps up with all the quilt designs!! She is so prolific with her quilt patterns. I am curious to see which fabrics you end up using for this quilt top. Looking forward to seeing the bow tie quilt top.
I will most likely not place an order at Joanns....what I want is not on sale and I can do better elsewhere. Oh well, it was fun to dream. Saw a cut afghan that I liked...but I do NOT need more yarn. Nor do I need another afghan, but this one was so pretty...
Gonna watch the news and crochet. G

Hello Crafters Ruth - I'm glad your DD's procedure went well and she is home. Ginny - Did you buy anything from JoAnn's? Phyl - Happy Belated Anniversary to your and your DH, sounds like you had a good day. Sue - Hope you are doing well. It's a nice sunny day here and in the 70s, sure has been some nice fall weather this year - I really enjoy it. Looks like rain tomorrow. I was tired and sore last night after getting everything put away yesterday, so I took some Tylenol and went to bed. I kept waking up hearing loud noises, not sure if I was dreaming them or really hearing them. I do think one of them was a helicopter circling around - there's always something going on around here I'm testing out the temperatures in my new refrigerator today in different areas. I hope to go and get some groceries soon. I'm really missing dairy foods, I usually eat several of them each day. I also hope I can get to work on my 2 quilt blocks for the FaLaLa Sew Along. These blocks go together so quickly it shouldn't take me more than a few hours to do both of them. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about the Cozy Things Quilt Along that Pat Sloan started yesterday. I'm just not happy with the fabrics I thought I'd use for it. I've also looked through most of my fabrics and can't find one that I think would work as the focus fabric. I'm tempted to go to JoAnn Fabrics and buy more just for this quilt along, but I know I probably shouldn't I'm kind of bugged by this quilt along because the fabric requirements said to get a layer cake but I think that most people are using yardage for their blocks. I can't imagine she's going to have a block that uses a full 10 inch layer cake piece, so what was the point? Maybe I'm speaking too soon since it's just block one. You can see some of the Block 1 quilt pieces that have been done so far, don't they just look like mostly yardage was used for the center block (6 1/2 inches)? www.facebook.com/groups/QuiltWithPatSloan/photos/ - you have to click through the pictures but you'll quickly see all the Block 1's. Take care and have a good day!

Thank you CJ for the kind thoughts about my dd's surgery. I think that most of the quiters just think that everyone wants to buy fabric in bundles of squares. I really think that if a person has fabric they should use that. But I'm not a quilter and for some things I'm sure the jelly rolls and charm packs and all come in very handy. But if you don't have the one you need, then a trip to a fabric store or quilt shop would definitely be in order. Plus you never know when you'll see something that you really need and never realized before Well today I finally got the rest of the pockets sewn on the pocket shawls and yes, there are only three...I thought there might be a 4th one hiding in the pile of nearly completed things but there isn't. The last shawl really gave me problems as the pocket ended up crooked and had to be redone.I think it took me longer to sew on the pockets than it did to make the shawls themselves and I did learn that my sewing skills need help. In the one it was ok because the yarn to sew was the same as what I used to make the shawl but in the other two I used ombre and the other was variegated and when it came to sewing, the yarn that was left to use to sew wasn't coming out like that part of the shawl's yarn color so my poor sewing skills showed. I'm waiting until tomorrow to do the buttons on the button cowls because I had enough sewing for today. So since my dgs' blanket is downstairs where dh is napping I started the blanket for sil. Then will come the 4 or 5 pocket shawls I will do for the girls that live here.

Good evening, CJ- sounds like the new fridge is doing fine! The newer ones make some different sounds-hope this new appliance is great for you. Ok, if it was me- I would be driving to Joanns to get the fabric I really liked. I know you have been trying to use up fabric that you have in the house- which you have done a great job of. Personally, I cannot see putting the effort into a quilt if you are not “feeling” the fabric selection. Its sure was neat to see the different blocks that others had made. Of course you should be sore from moving so much furniture and cleaning so much. I hope you rested well. By the way....I found some McCormacks brown gravy mix in my pantry! So at least for awhile my search is over. Wish I could send some down to you. I ended up not ordering anything from Joanns. The free shipping did not make up for that what I wanted was full price. I am better off ordering or getting when its on sale.
Raked some leaves today- Dd#2 came over for dinner. Hope to get some crocheting in. Ginny

Ruth, didn’t this happen yesterday that we posted within minutes of each other? What kind of blanket are you making for SIL?? And I hope I got it right- but now you will be making a lot more pocket shawls? Wish there was some easy way to attach the pockets, I know that is not your favorite part of the process.

Ginny, yes I think you're right about that. We did post close together yesterday too. I agree with you on what you said to CJ. And also on the Joann's order. I looked at something on that site last week and it was much more than at other places so the free shipping would not have helped me either. I hope you can get what you needed. When we were at WAlmart (couple weeks ago) I looked at gravy mix too and none was available. I don't often use it but sometimes it just gives that nice boost of flavor that you need.I'm glad you found that you had some. I thought I had chicken gravy mix so I was going to use it in my chicken al la king or whatever you would call the concoction I made, but there was none if the plastic container that I keep all my mixes in so I must have used it all.
The lap blanket I'm making for dsil will have to be pretty long to cover his legs. He's 6'6". I'm usuing the Boho stripe baby blanket pattern from Daisy Farms crafts. They have great blanket patterns on there. Of course I'm modifying it to make it much larger. Yes I made pocket shawls for 3 of the girls in Indiana and now have to make at least 4 more for the girls here including dd and three of the grandaughters and will have to find out who, if anyone, is coming for Christmas this year so if it's the other grandaughter that lives in Montana or oldest dgs' "partner" I make one for whichever it is also. I'm seriously thinking of just making the shawls in a length that will allow me to just fold up the ends to create the pockets.
CJ, thank you for the link to those photos.I looked thru a lot of them and do have to say that I found some I didn't care for but for the most part I really like quilt blocks.
It felt like winter here today with high of about 45 maybe. It was cold. Tomorrow I think it's supposed to be back up to 71 which is more my kind of temperature.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - Are you getting the rain we had down here this morning? Good thing you were able to rake leaves before it came. Ruth - Sounds like you are making a lot of progress on those projects/gifts. What color is the yarn for the lap blanket you are making for dsil? You sure do get some temperature swings out there. I went out this morning and bought some groceries. I was happy to get some milk, yogurt and cheese, I really missed eating them this week. And I lucked out and found some McCormick's Brown gravy mix and Turkey gravy mix. I noticed the Brown gravy mix has a new look to the package, so maybe that's why it hasn't been in stock. I bought 6 packages of each one And I found some Renuzit Air Fresheners - so maybe when I went there on Monday they just hadn't stocked yet. I also went in JoAnn Fabrics (the stores are right near each other) and got some sewing machine oil. I needed it for that newer machine I have so I can use it again. Most of the Fall/Autumn fabrics were gone, but I picked up a few blenders that I hope I can use in my quilts I'm making. I also decided to go in a different direction on the Cozy Things quilt and it's going to be a red/silver/white color scheme. I already have a focus fabric and I was able to find several other fabrics that will go well with that. I really need to catch up first on my FaLaLa blocks from Monday and hope to do that this weekend. Then maybe I can work on the Autumn Jubilee quilt - this week's block came out and it's Maple Leaves which I've always wanted to make. Here's a link to see them: frommycarolinahome.com/2020/10/16/autumn-jubilee-quilt-along-week-3/Then maybe I can start on the Cozy Things quilt. I think I've over extended myself a bit, but if I can get some things done this weekend and organize the fabrics and patterns for these projects into large ziploc bags then I should be alright. I also hope to get a picture of that Bowtie Quilt to show you. I have a minor "gripe" about the grocery store. I think they need to remove those markings on the floor that show the aisles as one-way. Nobody in the store today was following them except me. I kept going the way the aisle was marked and then passing a bunch of people coming at me from the wrong way! So really they aren't doing any good. It's still kind of exhausting to shop and I think it's mostly from the mask and how it limits your breathing and maybe it's still that there's an underlying worry about the virus being around. Hope all of you are able to do some crafting this weekend. Take care

Glad the link worked....I like the colors, and although i love the blue/white/silver Christmas colors I tend to really prefer the traditional colors. Not sure why I am unable to get the picture to post- I had some success posting pictures awhile ago. CJ- so glad you found your gravy mix. Like Ruth, I use it for all kinds of things- just the other day I made a pot roast in the crockpot and used some brown gravy mix and a splash of wine to dress up the gravy from the crockpot. So glad you were able to stock up on that. Perhaps ? Maybe with many folks staying home and cooking more they used gravy mix a lot? I remember hearing early during the shutdown that some city types were posting videos of themselves doing something as simple as cooking an egg- a newly learned task for them. None of us here are bothered with that shortcoming- think we all are pretty capable of making a decent meal. In my store the directional arrows were gone....and are now back. I figure that they were washed off the floor and were replaced. Indeed its a pain in the neck to have to go round and round when all you wanted was from the end of the aisle. Yes I have been known to see if the aisle is empty and if it is go the wrong way. Bad girl I am. You amaze me with the amount of quilt tops you work on. I love the maple leaves blocks and am sure you found some great fabrics for it. Yes you might have temporarily over extended yourself- but you are well organized and will straighten things out and get done what you want to do. Ruth - hope you get some warmer weather tomorrow. I know you are not a fan of cold weather....think its a great idea to make those pocket shawls extra long so you can turn up the edges to make pockets. I saw a picture on maybe Pinterest of a young woman with a pocket shawl made for her, she seemed to happy with it and it looked adorable. I am sure all the DGD’s who get them will love them. I did check out the boho striped afghan - and it really reminds me of an afghan that I have here that my mom made. Even the color...Yes, 6’6” is tall, and I know what that means for an afghan. I had made an afghan for Dh many years ago and had to make it insanely long- he was 6’3”. Like CJ with quilt patterns, you are always trying to make something new and different. So the dilemma of the panel quilt- which was easy- is that it came with 2 directions, that conflicted each other in measurements...and I did not want to mess up. So finally I let the directions prevail only for the corner blocks and then made the rest just by common sense. Neither set of directions worked for the dimensions that they gave, so I was really on my own. Will have to make a few sample blocks to give the stitch in the ditch foot a try- and also try out some decorative stitches that my machine can do. BBL Ginny

CJ, those leaf blocks are really beautiful. It's just so amazing that you can make something that beautiful with smaller blocks that are solid and the ones that are half triangles. Yes I don't think that I've seen a store (although have only been in two since this whole thing started) where anyone followed the directions on the floor. I'm as guilty as anyone else because I forgot that they had those and never even looked at the floor to see if I was following them.I'm glad you found the things you wanted in the grocery store and then were also able to find some fabric that will work for you. You do have a lot of projects going at one time but I think we're all guilty of that. I just realized that I am now currently working on five different crochet projects. That doesn't count all the UFO's I have it's just the things I am actively crocheting on right now.
Ginny, that panel quilt is beautiful. You did a great job as I knew you would
I saw another cowl pattern this morning that really liked (don't know why my letters are now slanted). I started making it but the pattern calls for bulky yarn which I used and then didn't like it because it puckered even though I followed the pattern exactly and my tension is not tight so I finally gave up, ripped it out and started over with a light yarn and appropriate hook and It's looking much better. Of course I'm supposed to be getting buttons sewn on the ones that are already completed.
Oh CJ, you asked what color I'm making the blanket it...it's hunter green. I may make a border with thin rows of white, maybe tan and the hunter green as the outside border row. I'm a ways off from that part so I'll have to think about it.
