Hello Everyone Phyl - I'm glad it worked for you so you Ginny - Hope you enjoy the machine quilting book and I'm glad you were able to go to a quilt shop. Ruth - Hope it's not as cold there. We're getting freezing rain here today. I can see the ice is coated on the cars, my steps and sidewalk. There are still a lot of people driving up and down the road, so I guess the roads are not slick. I'm trying to decide if I can go out and get my mail. My driveway sloops down toward the road and I don't want to fall. But I checked my email I get from the USPS and there are a few important letters in there today. Couldn't be like the last 2 days with nothing but junk mail, could it? I tried a practice pineapple block today using my Creative Grids Pineapple Trimmer ruler that I've had for awhile. I like it and it was pretty easy to use, but it does seem to leave a lot of scraps. I'll post a picture of the block with the scraps beside it. I only have enough of the blue star fabric to make probably 2 more blocks, so I might do that and then make 3 blocks using the red fabric (in the picture below). I could take the 6 blocks and make a wall hanging or table runner. If you are interested in seeing a video of using this ruler, let me know and I'll post a few links. Hope all of you are getting to do some crafting today. Take care How did that little white straggly thread get stuck on the block when I was taking my picture

phyl, I'm glad you got the pattern to download for you. It's great that you have friends nearby that can make a quilt with you. Even though you're all using the same pattern sometimes they look like entirely different quilts according to the fabrics you use and how you place them. At least that's what I've seen
CJ, don't fall on that ice. My ddil told me about the USPS thing that will tell you what mail was delivered. I don't know if they do it here or not since we have a rural route and the mail carrier is an independent contractor. Pluse probably about 99,6% of my mail is junk mail. And I wonder how they do that. Is it something the mail carrier has to do? I sure wouldn't want to give mine more work as he's very busy already.
Ginny, what are you up to today?
Speaking of quilting, my neighbor who quilts, and her husband have been in Arizona for at least the past month. I see that they're home now. Why would anyone come back here in the middle of an arctic blast. High today will still be below zero.
I put on a pot of beef stew and made dh some pasta to go with his sauce so we'll be all set with food.
I can't believe it's already Saturday again but time can't go by too fast for me. I'll be much happier when warmer weather gets here.Again tonight will be another hope the pipes don't freeze night.

Ruth - I hope you don't have any problems with your pipes tonight. I'm sure that warm beef stew and pasta is good on a cold day. I made it to the mailbox and back without any problems The service from the USPS - Informed Delivery - has images of your scanned first class mail and also notifications of any packages coming that day. I believe the mail is scanned at the main facility, and probably not at the local post office. Then I get an email 6 days a week showing what's in my mail for that day. I like it because I can see if an important piece of mail is coming that day - like today. If it was all just junk mail today I'd leave it out there, but I had two important letters I wanted to get out of the box. Since my mailbox is on a main road I worry about someone taking my mail. Here's a link to read up on Informed Delivery and there's probably a way to check and see if it's available in your zip code: informeddelivery.usps.com/box/pages/intro/start.action

CJ, I went to that USPS site and signed up. ;my zipcode is eligible but then they wanted to send me a code to my mobile phone which I hate so I had them send one to me via mail. it will take them awhile I'm sure to get that here but I'm not in any hurry. Thanks for the link. It will be nice to know when I have special mail such as letters from the grandchildren

Good evening all! Phyl, so glad you and Theresa were able to download that pattern. Cannot wait to see what you and your friends will do with it- and how the different fabrics make the same pattern appear so unique.
CJ- I see what you mean! That pineapple pattern is so pretty but what a fabric waster. Hey, how did that straggly white thread get on the bottom of the block? I really like the blue and red fabrics and they would make a really nice mini quilt, wall hanging, table runner.....do you remember where you got the fabric? Thanks for posting the informed delivery link- what a great idea. Think I will sign up for it also. And I am glad you got your mail- despite icy conditions.
Ruth, glad you were able to sign up for the informed delivery. Great idea for you- as then you will know when you do get important mail and not the normal junk that we all get. Beef stew and pasta are great meals for cold winter weather. Hey, I have one idea- my friend has family in Arizona, and I hear that they have high Covid levels there. Could your neighbor be coming back to your area because covid levels are better?
Dd#2 came over....also got some laundry done, and housework done. She looks great- and is really looking pregnant - which she is supposed to be at 5 months of pregnancy. We went to a walk, and had a good afternoon together. She and her husband will be going to visit his sister, so I am cat sitting for a few days. Hope that their kitten (who is huge, but younger than Sweet Tea) and Sweet Tea get along ok. Right now its quiet here...I figure they will be ok together. Dd loved the fabrics I got for her baby quilt. Hope to work on it next week Ginny

good evening, well after all that hul-a-bu-lou yesterday Theresa is going to make a different star quilt. her dd is down and suggested it and so did her sister..haven't talked to her so don't know why.
I do make it, it will be a wall hanging or tablemat. I do make a wall hanging it does not need to be 50" long.
some where in the house I lost my watch and it does not seem to be showing up anywhere.PHYL

WEll welcome to the club on that, Phyl. I'm always losing things and can't find them then usually find them right in front of my eyes. I know that Ginny also has mentioned losing things. When I couldn't find my credit cards it happened that right after I called to report it and got new ones I found them both. One was under the bed. How it got there I'll never know.
Ginny, I'm so glad to hear that your dd liked the fabric you picked out.Now you can work on it and see in your mind's eye what the baby will look like using the quilt. Just found out that dd and her bff are having a baby shower for my dgd late in March. I'm probably not going but I do plan, of course, to make her some things. It was nice of dgd to invite me though. They will have it at daughter's friends house because the friend and her dh just bought and moved into the house and the baby's father is the friend's nephew. I always find it interesting what people that are having a baby put on their registry at a store. Has your dd signed up for a registry? I don't know if my grandaughter has or not but both her sister and brother(well his girlfriend) did when they each were having babies.

Good morning!
Phyl- absolutely welcome to the club....I have some cards (one of them being a credit card) that have been missing for 10 months. Of course the credit card has been replaced and the other cards (most of them shopping cards) are not missed. Do you have plans on making the Oh My Stars quilt- it sounds like you do. BTW- I know you also go to Hobby Lobby sometimes. At the end of this month they are discontinuing the %40 one item coupon. That stinks- but their sales are good and are pretty predictable.
Ruth- glad that DGD has set up a registry for herself. She is young, and as this is her first, well the baby gifts will be welcome and useful. DD#2 has set up a generic registry, through babylist.com. Its a great idea- you can choose the items you want on the list they manage the list for you( as long as the participants check in and let the list know that an item has been purchased) but the giver can purchase the item from any store they like. A few weeks ago Dd and I sat down together and worked on the list, and I know she has added to it. Yesterday we were discussing a shower. We originally wanted to do a drive by shower- which would have a minimum of organization and setting up. DSIL does not think his family will participate in an event like that, also not a virtual (zoom meeting) shower. So we have 3 other options and being as its planned for early May, even if I have it hear at the house I should be able to have open doors and windows and also have it outside in the backyard a bit- to provide social distancing. What a pain in the neck this all is. Anyway there sure are some useful, new and also strange baby items out there. I know I have seen a nasal aspiration system that involves (instead of the traditional bulb) the caregiver sucking out the mucus with their mouth. yuck. Ok its a long suction tube.....but the concept is frankly, yucky.
Hope to get to some quilting today. will post a pic of the fabric for the baby quilt later. Its exactly what DD wanted....but is certainly not a typical baby quilt. ginny

Ginny, I agree with that. It certainly is yucky even when it's your own baby but I've seen, too, that they have some over items that are very interesting. A lot of what my other grandaughters and my neice had on their list didn't seem very useful to me. And for my grandson and his gf and my dgd#2 and her bf, those things were esp wasteful because they have only one child and don't plan to have any more.
Planning a shower is a lot of work but this pandemic is making everything harder. It seems as though most people have become very compacent about it all so I'm surprised that the numbers aren't shooting up but they aren't. Maybe the virus is losing strength. Anyway that's why I was surprised at all the masks when we went into the store the other day because people here seemed more compacent than anywhere else. It's working (or something is) because we have had no new cases in our county for several days in a row. Of course my family members and my dd's bff are the most complacent of all which is why I will undoubtedly stay home and not attend the shower.I sure hope the weather cooperates so that you can have your's outdoors or at least mostly outdoors.
I see that Hobby Lobby has free shipping and some nice sales today and tomorrow and I'd really like to get some of the I Love this Cotton but looking at it I can't decide what colors I want so maybe will wait till the next sale and free shipping. I have a lot of cotton already but this cotton is so soft and nice while mine is Sugar n' cream and Peaches and Cream so is harsh and scratchy.

Above are the fabrics and here is the link for the pattern I will be using for the baby quilt. The bottom fabric. (White with what looks like grey x’s) is flannel. And the majority of the fabric for the plain blocks will be the fabric just above it, a grey and white dot. I got lucky- Dd really liked that fabric. www.diaryofaquilter.com/2014/09/fast-four-patch-quilt-tutorial.html
