Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Phyl - That's interesting about sewing the fleece - I haven't ever done any sewing with fleece and now I'll probably avoid it. The pattern for the Hole in the Barn is very easy, mostly straight lines and not too large, it would look good in redwork. This company has some really nice patterns for barns, churches and lighthouses. Hope you had a good time at Sit and Sew. Ginny - I'm going to embroider the Hole in the Barn in the same color brown. I tested out 3 different shades of brown floss and found the one I like, so I just need to trace the pattern. I like your new avatar too - that's a beautiful Rail Fence quilt and a sweet story about it. I'm glad you had some nice weather - must be starting to feel like Spring for you. Ruth - Hope you enjoyed your shopping and were able to find the thread you were looking for. Meg - Hope you are doing well and getting some crocheting done. I went out to lunch today with two of my great-nieces and one great-nephew since they are in town visiting their grandparents. I only get to see them once or twice a year, so it was nice to spend time with them. We went to Dairy Queen and everyone enjoyed their meal. I also stopped by the Quilt Shop where we are going to take the Longarm classes and set up a date in May. I'm looking forward to learning this and hope I like it so I can get some of my quilts done. Tomorrow I'm taking the class on Binding. I also finished the other Falling Charms quilt with the Thistle Farm fabric. I like the way it looks, but I discovered a few mistakes after I put it together (some of the cream fabric is sewn on the wrong side!!), but it doesn't really show much and I'm not fixing it Take care everyone.

Hi Ladies. Well we went to WM, the bank and to pick up dh's prescriptions then to two grocery stores so I was exhausted when I came home. One of the reasons for WM was to pick up an order I ordered online but it was wrong so had to cancel that.At least the item I took to exchange worked out. They had another so hopefully this one will work. Bank was ok. One of his prescriptions needed a ok from the doctor as all refills had run out and, of course, it was one that he has no backlog on and one he really needs to we'll have to fight construction and go out again to get that one. WM had only two colors in the #3 thread...black and white...which I already had so didn't get any of that.I found a nice purple in #5 which I'm sure will work just as well and it was marked down so I got that.I also bought one more skein of regular yarn because I love the color of the REd Heart Love papaya and I had used most of what I had in that color.
Both the brown and the reds sound like they would be great for that barn.
Phyl, I'm glad to hear that you had a good day at sit and sew
WEll Ginny, that is a very beautiful quilt and I know your sil appreciated it. It's amazing and it was so nice of you to make that for her. I'm glad she recovered nicely.
Phyl, I'm sorry to hear that Kyle's grandpa passed away. It sounds as though he was a very nice man and will be sorely missed.
CJ, I'm really glad to hear that you're able to leave what you saw as a mistake. I used to not be able to leave anything even though I knew no one else would ever notice but I finally got over that so now I just go back and correct things that are really obvious and would affect how what I'm making will turn out.
BTW... I'm sure glad you ladies mentioned the wonder clips. I ordered some and they probably aren't authentic wonder clips but they work so well. I used them to hold the fingerless gloves together while seaming.Thank you for mentioning them.
CJ, your message is on the next page and I can't access it right now so now I don't remember anything I was going to say. I read your's first so all I can say is have a great evening and enjoy that class tomorrow

PHyl, yes I know the feeling. There are many things esp craft things that I wonder why I bought when I already have some of the same thing or too many. Like today, well I didn't need more yarn but I liked the color so I got some. Who knows when I'll use it so it's added to the stash.

Good morning, although it's going to be good afternoon by the time I am done here.
Phyl, forgive me for causing mass confusion here- I do think you all know now that I am the queen of the drive by visit here- and am power reading the posts. I hope that it works out for Jeana and she can attend the funeral and not have to travel out of town. Now regarding that cross stitch- well the pillowcases I am working on I bought 2 or 3 years ago..perhaps even 4 years and am just getting to work on them now. We all do that. Kind of like that yarn that Ruth just bought. It's ok. Sometimes a craft item just calls your name!
Ruth, hope that the item you switched at WM worked out. Even the name papaya sounds pretty- and I am sure the yarn must be gorgeous. Got any idea what you will do with it?
CJ-Indeed embroidering that Barn in brown will be perfect.....what stitches are called for? (My pillow cases are seed stitch, satin stitche and French knots, pretty easy). I think it's a striking pattern you picked out. How exciting that you are signed up for the long arm class! With all the quilt tops you have made I wonder if a long arm machine is in your future.
Got very little done on the pillowcases last night, but it's been a very productive day. I put out 4 boxes of clothes and misc to donate, which is gone now (yay!) and the cable repair guy just came and fixed a multitude of little issues. Dh just went to work on his mom's house, which is going to contract in a few days. Guess I will put the finishing touches on dinner and get ready for the afternoon. See ya later! Ginny

Good morning to you too Ginny and to CJ, Meg, and Phyl also. It's still morning here but as you said in your message, it won't be by the time I'm finished.
Ginny, good job in getting those boxes ready to donate and also out of the house. I have several bags...very large bags... filled for donating but I haven't got them there yet so they're still taking up space in my craft room. And although you got only a little done in embroidering last evening it all adds up and at least you're working on it. I never have gotten the knack of the french knits. I can't say that I've worked too hard in mastering it and sometimes they call for it in finishing a crochet item so I really should work on that. As for what I'll do with the papaya colored yarn..well I don't know yet. Grandkids have mentioned a few things they'd like to have so maybe I'll use it for one of those and of course there's always my old standby of hats to donate.I'm thinking of fingerless gloves with the little caps that can be pulled over the fingers to donate too. I want to talk to the people at the library because lot of homeless come in there and they could help themselves or Caps for Kids could expand to gloves and mittens also.Or the schools. Lots of kids go to school without warm clothing as I'm sure you know well being that you work with them.
I guess I'll go get started on my chores for the day. I want to make meatloaf and mashed potatoes and do a little cleaning before I settle down to crochet.

Good evening! I will say hi to Phyl, Meg and CJ- as I am unsure if I will be back later on this evening. I do hope that everyone had a great day and got some crafting time in!
After having trouble with the Salvation Army 3 years ago, I have changed and now donate to Big brothers and BiG sisters. They send a truck through my area at least once a month and are SO easy to contact. 4 boxes of stuff are gone.....now to clear out some more! Ruth, I checked out papaya colored yarn- such a pretty color and the kids do seem to be wearing a lot of that. You are absolutely right, many kids go without warm clothing. I live in a district of extremes- there are some very wealthy households and some rather poor ones. I would think that other options would be a crisis pregnancy center (making baby afghans) or caps for preemies. Great minds think alike- I made a ham load for dinner- we had ham loaf in Pa last week and Dh and I forgot how good it is! So we had that for dinner. Sorry, I have no experience with French knits.
Not sure why but I am tired....going to work on that pillow case. Tomorrow I am in a class all day, so will check in early in the am and then at the end of the day. After class I will be really near Walmart, and will return an item and pick a few things that I usually buy there.
Have a great night! Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Phyl and Ginny - The Hole in the Barn pattern calls for using either the Stem or Outline stitch. I like the Stem stitch which keeps your thread below when you're stitching. The Outline Stitch keeps the thread above and it always gets in my way. Ruth - I like those wonder clips too and I'm looking forward to using them when I start working on some binding. Every year or so I have clothes to donate too. I need to go through all my clothes again before summer and clear out some. I enjoyed the Binding class today, the instructor was very good and here's an interesting story about her. Way back in the late 1990s probably, my sister-in-law and I took a class in how to hand quilt. The instructor today was the same instructor as that class We learned two different stitches to hand stitch on binding, we learned to machine piece on binding, make a mitered corner, and put a curved binding on. We also learned how to cut bias strips. It was a lot of information, but presented really well and some good hands-on practice. I'm looking forward to putting on a binding now. I have a few pieces that are ready for binding, so I'm going to try to do one by the end of this weekend, while everything is still fresh in my memory. Take care everyone.

Hello Ginny, Ruth, Phyl & cj, sorry I have not been posting much. I have been working on my V stitch afghan I think it is over 30" long now but I have quite a bit to go. I have started a baby afghan using the V stitch but I haven't got very far with that. Had PT this morning. This afternoon I have been waiting for a call from my Dr. Otherwise my life has not been very exciting. Yesterday I got some more yarn sorted and have it down to 2 plastic containers plus I have the wicker trunk in the living room which is full of yarn. I will get rid of it eventually.
Ginny, I like your new avatar. Years ago I went to a quilting class and I was making quilt like that. I never did finish it. I used to have UCP call me every few weeks and they would stop and pick up anything I had which made me get rid of stuff on a more regular basis. Part of my DD's problem is that she has CP and she learned to walk years go at their development center and I was quite involved with them. I was president of their Mothers Gp. and I organized a program with General Mills to collect their points coupons that they had on all their boxes. We collected over 1,000,000 points and they bought the center a new bus to transport the kids. When I started the project and contacted GM a lot of people though I could do it but I surprised them all. BTW, why did you have a problem with the Salvation Army I have always thought that they were a good organization. Big Brothers & Big Sisters is also a good organization. My #1 DGD had a Big Sister for many years she was even bridesmaid at her wedding. Wonderful young woman.
cj, I am glad you were able to spend time with our great nieces and great nephew. It is wonderful to keep up with the younger members of our families. All mine live in N. Ireland or England. so I don't get to see them very often and I don't think I will be able to make the trip over there again. Some of the post on face book so I can check up on them there. Anyway I am glad you enjoyed your lunch at the DQ.
Phyl, I am sorry to learn that kyle's grandpa passed away.
Ruth, papaya colored yarn sounds interesting. What are you going to make with it? No new yarn for me for awhile.
I have so sign off now and I am sure you are all tired of my rambling.

Good evening! CJ, sounds like your binding class was a lot of fun and very helpful to! Good idea to use what you learned today quickly so that you don't forget it. How funny that you had the same instructor as years ago.
Meg, when we were trying to get rid of things from my mothers house we had Salvation Army pick up from her house and some items from my house. They indicated they would pick up everything and then when they got here decided they would only take part of it. In my opinion if they were going to be picky about what they would take they should've spelled that out from the beginning. HVe. Good night Ginny

Ginny, it was supposed to be French Knots not Knits... I seem to have a lot of trouble with typos. We don't have preemies here in our local hospital. If one is born here it's immediately flown to Denver so preemie caps are out for me and the hospital I think prefers knit hats for the newborns rather than crocheted. I have knitted some hats but it's a lot easier for me to crochet them. They do have a crisis pregnancy center here so I maybe need to talk to them about baby blankets. I love making them and I'd be happy to make some and donate them there. I tried Project Linus and another group that takes baby blankets but I'd have to ship them and the shipping is just too much now so I want to do local things.
CJ, it sure does sound like you learned a lot today, you're right!! She covered a lot of ground and how funny that it turned out to be the same instructor you had years ago. I thought that binding had to be put on after the quilt was quilted. Seems like the instructor we had when I did that quilt top class said that but that was a long time ago so I'm sure I'm not remembering correctly. If I am she made a mistake
Meg, what a great thing you did for disabled children!!! That had to have taken a lot of your time but the results are just amazing..a bus! And no you aren't rambliing. I know I love to read your messages and I'm sure the ohters do too. It sounds like your V stitch afgans is going along very well. You'll be done before you know it.
I've done a lot of cooking today but very little crocheting so far because I was almost done with one of the gloves and ran into a knot. Plus I don't think I have enough thread to do the second glove. this thread is a metallic white and I had to cut out a section because it had some pink in the thread which is not supposed to be there. And they don't have this at WM and I don't think they sell it anywhere else in town. I think Hobby Lobby has just one brand which is not the same as this one which is some Coats and clark thread I think.
Now there you go, Meg, I'm the one rambling.

Good morning! Just a quick hello- I am taking a class today to maintain my SBDI (school bus driver instructor) license, and do not have to drive today. So I am leaving home a little bit later than normal.
Ruth, I know both Michaels and AC Moore help find agencies to donate hand made items too- perhaps you could try them also! And I make more than my share of typos- then of course we also have autocorrect, which can mess you up too. Think MIchaels works with Warm Up America- they take crochetted squares (9") and assembles them into blankets for the homeless. Great way to use up leftover yarn! Warm up America, if they are still in business, is national....you might have luck with them. Best of luck finding the metallic thread. Try eBay, even Amazon. I have had luck with both web sites getting hard to find yarn. No...you do not ramble!
Meg- you do not ramble either!!!! Looks like we posted at the same time. What a wonderful story about collecting box tops- and with such a good outcome! You are an amazing woman - I enjoy learning more about you as time passes. Congrats on getting that yarn organized!!
Gotta get on the treadmill so I can then shower and get to this class. Got some embroidery time in last night. I will not be back till this evening- probably will not have WIFI at this meeting. Hi to Phyl and CJ! Ginny

Good morning CJ, Ginny, Meg, and Phyl. I hope you're all having a good day and that they class you're taking, Ginny, is interesting.
The only craft type store we have here is Hobby Lobby and I don't think they collect squares. It would be nice if they would and took care of the shipping. One woman who runs a group in another part of the state said she would try to get some funds to help with shipping and that her organization loves crocheted blankets but most even baby blankets are heavier than you would expect. I should contact her again. One woman at Caps for Kids made things and took them to the University of W Family Practice clinic here in town but I doubt they have the space to store many baby blankets. I'll have to talk to them too.
It's still a little on the cooler side today but it is in the 50's and I'll take it for sure. I'm going to just clean the kitchen later, wash the floor etc but in the meantime work on some of the crocheting and maybe reorganize my craft room because I kind of messed it up searching for the yarn I wanted to use. Today is a day for making a hat. I want to have a lot made by fall.
I wish we had some organization that would come and get donations. I'd love to get rid of these bags that are taking up space and also some other things that aren't bagged yet.
So have a wonderful day and I'll see you all later.

Good afternoon Ginny, Ruth, Phyl & cj.
I seem to have wasted the morning though I was up early. I took Devin to school and this is his early day so I will have to pick him up soon. I didn't get any crocheting done yesterday but after Devin comes home I will get busy and work on my v stitch afghan.
Ginny, hope the test goes well today How is the embroidery coming along. I never did learn and my attempts years ago were not very good. If my mother had lived I am sure she would have taught me. She died when I was 12 so I learned a lot of things by trial and error. I can understand the Salvation Army not wanting certain items because it would cost them money to get rid of them but they should have made that clear to you when you contacted them. When my church has a rummage sale there is usually a lot of stuff left over and the LDS thrift store people come with a trailer and pick it all up. A lot of the thrift stores do not want it. Same problem you had.
Ruth, One of the Michaels stores here used to take knit squares but I don't think they still do it. If I were you I would contact Social Services near you and ask they if they would like hand made baby items. Some of the churches have clothes closets and they might be interested in baby blankets. My baby blankets go to the food closet down town or they go an Episcopal church in a low income area to be given out. I prefer finding somewhere in my community as I don't like paying the postage to send them somewhere else when they are needed here. The Linus project here gets a lot of blankets so I like to give them elsewhere. Let us know if you find somewhere for your baby items.
I will try and check back later. Have a great day.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - You are correct that a quilt is quilted before the binding is put on. Hope you were able to get your cleaning done and also time for some crocheting. Ginny - Hope the test went well today and you were able to get some time to embroider - I hope you find it "soothing" like I do when I get to do some handwork. I don't know if I ever mentioned it or not but when I was a child my father owned school buses and drove them for the county (he had driven city buses in Washington, D.C. before that). Once the county started using their own buses they hired him to become a school bus lot foreman and he was later promoted up to be a supervisor at the County Headquarters office. It was a big achievement for someone who didn't even get to graduate from high school Meg - I enjoy reading your posts, so please keep posting anything you want to tell us Your v-stitch afghan sounds like it's turning out nice. Phyl - Hope you are doing well today. I got a lot of crafting done today. I cut some bias binding strips and put them into one long piece of binding. Then I attached it to a small (15x15) quilted piece that I picked up last year at a quilt show. It has four small redwork blocks of ladies in large fancy dresses and their is a border of a fabric that has a black backround with cherries and cherry blossoms on it. I used a solid red fabric to do the binding. So now I'm ready to start stitching it to the back. Since I used my walking foot on my machine to sew on the binding I decided to go ahead and practice machine quilting on another of the small practice pieces I'd put together. This time I stitched about 1/4 inch from each seam and I liked that better than stitch in the ditch. On the borders I did a cable pattern - that was a lot harder to do. I still didn't enjoy machine quilting that much and I have a feeling that I probably never will. I also traced the Hole in the Barn pattern onto muslin and I hope to start working on that soon. I'm happy to have handwork to do, since it really helps me as a stress reliever and is very calming to me. Take care everyone!
