Good evening! Ruth - I wish you all the best finding an organization for your hand made treasures. Gosh, there has to be somewhere- even a local church might know of something. Yes, I agree it would be nice if someone would pay for shipping...not sure how you are situated out there, but perhaps your library knows of a good place to donate them to? Glad you are enjoying the cooler weather. Were you able to get your craft area cleaned up again?
Meg- yes you hit it right on the head about the Salvation Army. At my mom's (40 miles south from here) they took pretty much everything- and actually did have a list of what they would not take. They did take several large furniture items that we had not brought up here. No questions asked. Here, we had my mom's lovely bedroom furniture, a little bit old- but in great shape. And I told them they were coming for furniture- they refused to take it! Because that was done without warning- I decided not to donate to them anymore. BBBS seems more than happy to take our items for donation. Hope that you get some crochetting time in today.
CJ- glad you got some experience in with the walking foot- which at first seems cumbersome but is helpful . I have also done the 1/4 inch seam top stitch and like it also. I was not a huge fan of machine quilting until I discovered stipple. Let's see how you do with the lessons on the long armer - which might change your mind. I love hearing about your progress on the red work block and the Hole in the Barn. You get so much done in a day! What an inspiration.
Class was long- but all in all pretty good. (CJ, thanks for sharing that your DF was once in the school bus industry!). Done properly, it is an industry in which you can really do some good- and be a blessing to the students and their families. Today's training was mandated by the state for me to keep my teaching license. I usually come away inspired...this year was no exception.
Think I am going to embroider a few minutes. Have a wonderful evening. Phyl- hope you had a great day Ginny

I just lost my message. I don't know what happened but all of a sudden...poof...off it went
Ginny, I'm glad to hear that the class was interesting and went well. Sometimes those things are so boring depending on the instructor or instructors. And thanks for the well wishes on finding a place to donate. I'm sure there are probably plenty of places so I just need to find them.
Cj, it sounds like you got a lot done today. The quilt that you put the binding on sounds beautiful. Maybe you'll like the long arm better than on your machine.
Meg, good seeing you. All it's showing here now is page one and you all know how my memory is.

A short good morning from me as I have to head to work.
Ruth- yes it's so frustrating when a post gets dropped or lost. Happens to me all the time- so sometimes my posts are super short so that I do not lose much. Wishing you lots of luck finding a place to donate to that does not require mailing. gotta be someone somewhere that will accept your handwork!!
Everyone has a half day (all schools in my district) so I will be gone until after lunch. I was too tired last night to embroider. It's Friday....hopefully can get some done this weekend.
Blessings to all who visit with us today.... Ginny

Hello all. It's just before noon here right this minute but will be afternoon before I hit "send". I hope you're all having a great day. Ginny, it's always nice to have a half day right before the weekend. I do hope to accomplish some things during the weekend. I think today or tomorrow I'll make dh some sticky buns. He's been talking about them for a few days now. I'd make them today but I think it's too cool for the dough to rise properly so probably tomorrow. I seem to be doing more reading about crafting than the actual crafting itself in the last few days. I've been looking at patterns as if I needed to have more patters. As my former avatar said, I will never even get to the ones I've already downloaded let alone new ones. But today I'm either going to start on oldest dgd's blanket for her expected baby or another dgd's scarf and matching fingerless glove. And there's always the youngest dgd's shawl that I could get going on so I'll choose one or maybe get a couple of them started then I can work on different things so as to not get bored. Of course in our rules, the reading counts. For the oldest one's baby blanket I'm still not sure of what pattern to use with the fluffy fuzzy yarn. Maybe I should do a V stitch like Meg is making. I'll have to try it and see how this particular yarn looks in that pattern. With fluffy yarn sometimes the pattern should be a really simple one so I don't know. Experiment with it is probably the way to go.Maybe even knit in a plain garter stitch...thinking aloud here See you all later

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - I do a lot more reading about quilting than I do actual quilting, but you're right that does count Hope you found a new pattern to work on. Ginny - I'm glad to hear your training went well and that it was inspiring. It takes a special person to work with children and take the responsibility of their lives into your hands Hope you got some embroidering in. Meg and Phyl - Hope you are getting some crafting done. I didn't get any crafting done today since I was out for a large part of the day. I had some errands to run in the morning and then in the afternoon I had a monthly lunch that I attend with a few ladies. We all went through a Bereavement course back in 2013 and since then we've met every month to catch up with each and offer support. It's been a nice group and surprising that we've kept it going for so long. I hope to get the 2 weekly quilt blocks done this weekend and also stitch the binding I attached yesterday. Take care everyone!

Hi CJ, great to see you here. The group you mentioned sounds like a good one. You all must care about each other. And those pesky errands do keep us hopping don't they. I know you'll get the blocks and the binding done as you plan. You're good at following thru...unlike me.
I forgot earlier than I still had the second glove of the white sparkly ones to do so I did that and I had enough thread after all so I was able to finish that pair. Rest of the day I pretty much wasted watching some tv programs I recorded. I wanted to watch them because next week or 10 days we're going to get rid of the tv service. Each year you have to call and play games with them in order to have them reduce your rate because each year they raise it. And I doubt they're going to agree to the top price I want to pay and I want exactly what I have now or nothing. Last year when I called it worked out well but I don't think that's going to happen again.. Each package they offer has so many channels that I would never watch so I have to have the next to highest to get the programs that dh and I do like to watch since there are pretty much only a couple programs in package that we like. They have so many useless stuff on them and we've now tried all the companies. This is the best one with their dvr and all but It's just not something that's worth what they now want us to pay.I mostly keep the tv on for company anyway. I don't watch much which is why I have so many programs recorded...never get around to watching.
Well guess I'll go have dinner then crochet and watch some tv at the same time. See you all later

Good morning! I am a firm believer in the line "don't beat yourself up"- and it's with that in mind that our somewhat wacky rules for crafting were drafted. If we did not look at patterns, or yarn colors or investigate new patterns- we would never be inspired. Ruth, looking for patterns is indeed crafting...as it inspires you to do more. I am anxious to see what you decide to do next and what you end up doing with the fuzzy yarn.
CJ- so nice to hear that you had such a good time with your friends! ! What a sweet and special group of people to keep this tradition going for years. I am sure you will get your crafting in today. Looking forward to hearing about your creative endeavors.
Got some time in embroidering last night. TOday we are working on emptying my MIL's house.. Hope to embroider tonight- or watch the YouTube on the falling charms quilt. Hi to Meg and Phyl. Ginny

Ginny, for some reason I was thinking of your MIL's house yesterday and all the work involved in cleaning out someone else's house not to mention memories it evokes. Thinking esp of your dh today.
Yes I was just looking at patterns again today. Fuzzy and bulkier yarn does disguise many patterns so I'm thinking simple is best. I still have to try it in a swatch and see how various patterns look in this yarn.
It's great that you were able to get in some embroidery time last evening and I hope you will be able to sit and relax and do some more this evening also.
Have a good day all and hello also to CJ. Meg, and Phyl.

Good afternoon!
Ruth, I totally agree that a simple pattern is best with a fuzzy/bulky yarn. Sometimes those yarns are just hard to work with too- so why abuse yourself when simple is best all around? the super chunky yarn I made DGS a hat from this past fall was a breeze to work with- and looked great in a simple half double crochet. I am sure you will figure out something that works up well and looks great too!
Lots of work this am at MIL's house. My SIL seemed very dysfunctional- which meant that she got almost nothing done. I ended up kind of grabbing the bull by the horns (with her permission) and started emptying cabinets- so that whole cabinets went empty. The way she was doing things it would take forever, and the closing on this house is around May 15. Not much time left to casually approach this. She did thank me for my effort and I think that she was hoping I would help having just been through this only 1 year and a half ago
Intersting story....my SIL and niece (her daughter) were musing over which hand made art of my MIL's to keep..... And then and there it became evident that neither craft at all. SIL was looking at a large cross stitch (which was probably stamped cross stitch as I cannot see MIL ever having the patience for counted cross stitch) and a smaller crewel picture. Both were nicely framed- a little dated in style but well done. I told SIL the choice was easy for me.....she did not understand. MIL had taken the time to sign the front of the cross stitch with her name and date- the crewel picture was signed on the paper on the back but not sewn in. SIL saw that....agreed with me...and I think will probably keep the signed cross stitch.
Think I'd better get a walk in. Hi to Meg and Phyl and CJ- hope everyone gets a chance to check in this weekend and get some crafting time in too! Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - I'm glad you were able to finish another glove. I hope things work out with your cable service, but if you don't get to keep it will you still be able to see your local channels? I know I have more channels on my service than I ever watch. I just hate to give some of them up and then find there is something I want to watch on the one I don't have anymore Ginny - Sounds like the embroidering is coming along. I'm glad you made progress on clearing out your MIL's house and it's nice of you to let your SIL know why the piece that has your' MIL's name and date on front was so special. My father did some counted cross stitch after he retired and he was usually pretty good about putting his initials and date on the front of them, so I've kept all of those that we have. Meg and Phyl - Hope you are having a good weekend. I sent to JoAnn Fabrics today since I wanted to pick up more of the fabric I'm using in the Snowy Day (NSQ) Quilt. Seeing the blocks now that I have the pattern for the last one makes me realize I'd like to put a wide border on this quilt from the yellow fabric I'm using and I didn't have enough. Fortunately they still had it in stock and I bought enough for the borders and maybe some for the backing too. When I was checking those weekly blocks this morning to pick out fabrics I realized that the last block I did for the Snowy Day quilt has the wrong pink fabric in it. I guess I accidentally picked up a strip of pink I had from another project. Now I have to rip apart half the block and redo those squares. It really irritated me seeing this error, but I know it would have been much worse if I had already put the quilt top together. Take care everyone!

Hello, Ginny, Ruth, Phyl, & cj,
I have been trying to keep up with everyone but it has been a busy week and I haven't had much computer time. Yesterday I went to Knit Wits, can't miss that. I took my V stitch afghan which I getting big and heavy so I will only work on it at home until I get it finished. This morning DS an I went grocery shopping. This afternoon I had to go and pick up a prescription. This evening I hope to work on my afghan and probably listen to an audio book.
I see you are all keeping busy which is good. Now I am going to take a short nap.

ny, I'm glad to hear that you got everyone on track and organized. It sounds like they didn't know where to start or how to go about packing up everything. I'm glad to that you were able to tell them about the cross stitch and wonder, if they needed to know which one is good does that mean that they're planning on just discarding the ohter one? Phyl, I'm glad to hear that you were able to get to the funeral and, yes, it's so sad that his wife is more demented than you even realized. It's always hard for a family to face and deal with that and also to care for the person suffering the dementia. CJ, OH NO!! But it is good that you discovered the mistake when you did. You're sure right that it's better to have found it now. I'm glad you were able to find that fabric you need. Yes, I had forgotten how difficult it is to work with fuzzy yarn. It's almost impossible and sometimes completly impossible to see the stitches.Sometimes you just have to do it by feel. So because of that I chose a pattern that is one that has chain spaces and after the first row you crochet only into the spaces so that makes it much easier. I was able to get the first row done. The good thing about the fuzzy yarn is that it covers small mistakes too After that I tried starting two scarves. in the first pattern I tried the designer, who is a very young woman, said right on the pattern that there was a 99% chance that the pattern had huge mistakes. I followed it precisely and it worked out ok but looked nothing like the picture she had with it so I don't know if she put the correct picture with the pattern or what exactly happened. In the second pattern ..almost the same thing. The designer said she knew there were big mistakes but she didn't have time to fix them but that was last year and then she updated and said she fixed it. She had room for cooments and people blasted her for posting an incorrect pattern and not taking time to fix it. As I said, she then posted that it was fixed. However there is still a mistake in her second row but it's an obvious one so I was able to recognize it and avoid the error then I, along with some others, mentioned that she should ignore all the rudeness becuase everyone makes mistakes and I kindly pointed out where the mistakes were in her second row. I do kind of agree that she should probably have just taken the pattern off the net until she could fix it but still to be so rude is just unconscionable. Why be rude. So long story short I now have two things started I can work on and probably should start the little one's shawl too. The baby blanket needs to be done by the beginning of August and the shawl at the end of Aug. The scarf/fingerless set end of Sept. I would have commented more on the things posted but they aren't on this page...when will I learn to make notes? I was very glad to see all three of you. Now hopefully we'll "see" Meg next

Sorry for the message being so spaced out. I had thought I lost it and found it but had to copy and paste and it did that spacing on it's own and it also was before Meg posted so now I'm going to read hers. Hi Meg.

Ruth, because I was losing so many posts I try to remember to highlight what I have written and then copy & paste if I need to it then I don't have to write the whole thing over again. Same applies if some of the posts you want to respond to copy your reply and then go to the next page and paste it there and continue responding to the posts on that page. Does that make sense? It has worked for me.
I still haven't done any crocheting but I will try and do some before I go to bed. It's been a long day. Good night.
