"wellness for everyone" approach hasn't been a rousing success, and the new plan will be more focused on weight loss (duh!). This is good to hear.

Yesterday I watched a video on YouTube by Barrett Pastor. She dropped some hints about upcoming changes, mostly what we've been discussing here. She did say the new plan would be "diabetic friendly" which I interpreted to mean someone pre-diabetic or diabetic could use it as a weight loss tool, but the group leader wouldn't be actively involved in helping the member to regulate or manage their disease. Barrett also said the "wellness for everyone" approach hasn't been a rousing success, and the new plan will be more focused on weight loss (duh!). Thanks, I will check it out. I haven't watched BP since the anticipation in 2020. Weight loss, eh? I guess it's too late to drop "WW" now.

health & wellness didn't work w/branding They should have asked us old timers and we could have saved them some grief.

I am happy about more for us vegan / vegetarian / gluten free folks.
Curious about healthier products - we'll see about that! Though I admit I have a few staples that keep me in check.

Better health may follow the weight loss. Personally, my health improves dramatically when I’m at goal weight. This is good news to hear.

Weight Watchers is about weight. No one comes to WW for wellness tips. I get those tips from my personal doctor.

I went back and re-watched the video. Here are the main points: - the 3 food plans didn't necessarily work out as planned - health & wellness didn't work w/branding - new plan will be customizable, and be lower sugar, diabetes friendly, and good for those who are insulin resistant - WW will continue to beef up digital platform and offer more instruction on how to use app - will continue online mtgs. but also re-open more in-person mtgs. - product line will be more "healthy" (whatever that means) - plan will be adaptable to vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, etc. All of this seems very consistent with what you get from the earnings calls. There is nothing really there beyond that. I do remember the year (Freestyle I think) when N is For Nurse got the actual plan from someone and that was actually hard, solid information. The above is just the vague stuff you get from what WW has said publicly. That reminds of the year that Beyond the Scale (Smart Points) came out. I had my blog then and really wanted to post about the upcoming plan but I had nothing. I had no inside sources or anything. But I did have the earnings call transcripts and the little that had been otherwise publicly said. So I did a post that talked about it vaguely. They said it was the biggest program change in 50 years, that kind of thing. My blog was a very sleepy, low viewer blog. I didn't monetize it and just possibly posted for me and had some devoted regulars. All fine. Well, within days of doing that post I was like the third listing when someone would search for WW new plan. My viewers went from the hundreds per day to the several thousands. It was just insane. From that point on, I had a lot more people reading my blog. But -- here's the thing. I didn't know anything that wasn't publicly available. I just posted it first. That was the year that you could get the plan "early" from England so I was able to post about the plan a week early also. Of course, I think they don't do that any more.

The only thing I can say officially is that we do have an exciting new program coming later this year. I am excited to share more info with you soon!
Unofficially I will say the things she said in that video is not insider info. It’s kind of obvious that YOU (members of this forum and those like it) are her sources. For example, on boarding new members has been a priority at WW for years. We have had app academies since before COVID. For over a year, we have offered virtual app academies and orientation (kickstart session). It’s not new.

I was on Barrett's FB page and a member was saying that the UK site has a low carb option. I popped over and it was basically an article about low carb and how to do it on WW. It really wasn't saying it's the new plan...but now everyone is in an uproar over it! I checked the UK fb page and no one was discussing any new plan just the 3 we currently have.
And Barrett is now saying that the low carb is similar to what she saw that was tested. So what happened to the "personalized" programs?

Not every option that's tested makes the cut.

I have had such a love/hate relationship with WW over a 20 year period. I’d want to leave, and no sooner leave then find myself signing up again. I’d try a new plan, found it wanting, would leave, would go back when an alternative plan failed me. I finally came to the conclusion I was emotionally attached to WW, whether it worked or not, I would be crawling back to them for the emotional connection of belonging to a group. I do like their current Smart Points plan BUT I do tire of the disproportionate relationship to calories. It eventually gets to me that a small chocolate has more points than a roast chicken dinner. I turn off, try something else and then go back.
I will be switching to calorie counting once my yearly membership expires in February, regardless of how good or bad their new plan proves to be. Why? Because I don’t want to be a member of WW and keep paying for it forever (nothing is free in Australia).
I have just looked on Connect, and there is an inspiring “how it started/how it’s going” story and the person admits they started in 2016, got to LTM in 2017, and with plenty of ups and downs, they are at goal and have stayed the course with WW. In my head, all I could think was, you’ve been paying since 2016 and still paying today.
From an Australian perspective, in the early 2000’s, LTM only entitled you to one free meeting a month (provided you were within 2.2lbs of goal…which was later changed to 4.4lbs (2kgs) either side of goal weight). Nothing else. No free eTools, no free materials whenever a plan changed, nothing. Later, when the App became what it is, they still charge LTM around $30 a month if you want to track with the App. They stopped selling the little calculators long ago, leaving your reliant either on their App or an equivalent (iTrackBites).
This past 18 months, living in the officially recognised most locked down city in the world (over 200 days in the past year), we got no discount or reimbursement for suspended workshops. I could attend a virtual if I wished, but I absolutely hated all the ones I tried, except for the temporary ones they allowed my usual coach to take…before they made them National and impersonal and lead by people who didn’t inspire me.
I don’t want to wake up in 10 years time still paying for a WW subscription, and I certainly don’t want the worry of what if they come up with the perfect plan and then go out of business or they change it in 2 years time. I don’t want to rely on a commercial weight loss organisation anymore.
I’ve felt all this before and have still gone back and sheepishly renewed, but can say I am well and truly done now. No anger, not even any regret over it. WW was a very big part of my life for the past 22 years, and while I am interested in their next plan (just like I read newly released diet books without any intention of following it) I feel well and truly ready to walk away now.
