maryaw1028, as far as tracking goes, it's not really any different than the current "honor system". They are counting on people wanting to get the most out of the plan and being honest about what they eat/exercise/etc

Hmm if it's just a QR code and you have a laptop with a camera or an external camera, you could scan it that way. But if you're way old school, then no. I mean technology is great, sometimes it's suck, but it's not cool to weed out a whole entire generation. Not everyone has smart phones. Way to be inclusive WW. A member approached my leader a few weeks ago complaining that they took away the ability to pay as you go with a check at the scale. My leader felt terrible, apologized up and down. I've been going to WW over 20 years and this lady is at every meeting, sitting in the back knitting. Never used an app, always tracks on paper. I think it's awful to abandon those loyal old-fashioned members. Don't know if this means anything or not -- but I made Lifetime about 3 weeks ago. When I went into a WW location for my next meeting I brought up my QR code (like I did before Lifetime) to check in and they got upset saying I shouldn't have a QR code once I was on Lifetime. They even called support who basically said "don't worry about it." I just renewed Lifetime for the first time since getting on it and the QR code is still there. Wonder if that has something to do with the plan changes?

My location had been doing a barcode or QR code the last time I went. It's been a while. It's just another thing to do these days and stressful.

One last thought - it's starting to sound pretty overwhelming. I agree. I am a bit tech-phobic and it seems everything is getting more techky. It is too bad that they are leaving a lot of customers behind. I remember how I felt when they closed the old WW message boards and moved to CONNECT. I didn't have a smart phone then and felt left out. I should have just gone out and bought a smart phone but I am so tech-hesitant. Oh i had a thought will recipies now be divided by age? How sad! I think the "age" part is part of the formula figuring points using height, weight, and age.

Judy, I hear you, believe me. I miss the old message boards too. If we MUST get a smartphone to access the new program, I won’t do it out of sheer principle. And I know I’m not alone. When I bought my cheapie nonSmart phone at Target, the sales guy told me ”good choice. This one is pretty popular, and we sell a lot of them.” Personally, I think being forced to rely on a smartphone takes away a lot of freedom, but that’s just the way I think.

I remember the switch from points plus to smart points, the app update made older smart phones unusable. I remember one new member, who had been doing extremely well on the program, coming in to say good-bye to everyone (she actually cried). She just could not afford to upgrade her phone. Her plan was to continue on her own with paper. I often wonder how she did.
Though I realize WW has to move with the times, they shouldn't push out those who brought them this far.

I would suggest I Track Bites to anyone that wants to track or My Fitness Pal that can be done online. ITB can be done on my old Samsung android. There are work-arounds that I am using with the ITB app and am doing Purple program so it can be done. My sister said she has loved the WW Blue program but if she doesn't like what they come out with next will switch to what I am using and I will help her get set up. She thinks of me as being super knowledgeable about all things Weight Watchers since I have been doing it off and on since...1984

I spent my entire career in tech so I love the app -- especially the restaurant point information and the bar code reader... It never dawned on me that some of my generation might be tech-avoidant! I think you're right about the aging part of the formula, too. As we get older our bodies need fewer calories (sadly). I wish we could get an advance look at the new plan, but I suppose I have to be patient!

Hi all! It's been a loooong time since I made a post here (ETA: Looks like I've never made a post before!) - I'm mainly a lurker. But I want to thank all of you for your posts which I read and take inspiration from. I'm (still!) a struggling weight watcher of many years. I'm excited about the new plan in hopes that I can use something "fresh" to be the kick in the pants I need to get myself on track. I just wanted to say that I think WW is missing a huge marketing opportunity with this plan non-rollout (at least it's a non-rollout up to this point!). In our social media age, of COURSE people are talking and speculating and guessing and whatever about what's coming. And we know a big change is coming from legit sources (trade mark/pantent info, investor calls). So there is a lot of messaging out there, and none of it is confirmed as being accurate. Expecially for members who are less comfortable with change, I think this creates a lot of stress to go along with all the (mis)information and speculation. What if WW were to: 1. Announce that changes are coming - perhaps 4 - 6 weeks out. 2. Create excitement by focusing on the recent science that is the basis for the changes (ummm...the changes ARE science based, right? ) Could make this the focus of meetings during this lead up time. 3. Suggest to members things from the current plan that will remain important going forward (I'm guessing here...but maybe things like "be thinking about your favorite lean proteins... or whatever.) 4. Begin to address things that members might struggle with - things to get them ready (Guessing and making it up here... but if true: "A Smart Phone is becoming more important to being able to fully work the plan. WW being a huge international company, we have negotiated an agreement with _____________ to be able to offer a smart phone and plan and this terrific rate!") In other words - think ahead about possible negatives and come up with ways to take some of the sting out of it. Instead of allowing the bloggers and influencers and so forth control their message, WW would take back control of their own message. And we would all benefit from more accuate info, and a more comfortable transition. WIN WIN.. So can I replace Mindy? BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!

Lizzie, WW loves all this speculation! I don’t feel it controls their message. . It actually helps spread it, as inaccurate as it may be! Although WW employees can get fired for discussing it, WW loves when WE discuss it. I remember when Pointsplus was about to be introduced, my favorite leader told me WW loves when we speculate. It drums up anticipation and excitement and is great public relations for them. I never forgot that!

I wish we could get an advance look at the new plan, but I suppose I have to be patient! I wonder if there will be any official prior notice or it will just show up on the app on November 7th and we go from there. It would be nice to have a little idea of what is going on and what to do. I don't have faith in them doing a good job making it self-explanatory. I want the people interation when I learn things.

What you suggested would make too much sense for ww. Frankly i think the recipie issue us going to sink it. I can just see it oh this is a 50+ age recipie. Hmmm smacks if ageism. I do not like being restricted particularly by ww due to my age! Ill be 69 in about 15 days. I give it 6 months before the revisions start being done.

WW has taken age into account in several of their points calculations over the years whether you realize or not.

I can just see it oh this is a 50+ age recipe. I don't think that is what will happen. Age is part of the points calculation and that is what is being talked about. Each recipe has to be pointed according to your height, weight, and age. Those aren't search terms for finding recipes.
