Hi all! It's been a loooong time since I made a post here (ETA: Looks like I've never made a post before!) - I'm mainly a lurker. But I want to thank all of you for your posts which I read and take inspiration from. I'm (still!) a struggling weight watcher of many years. I'm excited about the new plan in hopes that I can use something "fresh" to be the kick in the pants I need to get myself on track. I just wanted to say that I think WW is missing a huge marketing opportunity with this plan non-rollout (at least it's a non-rollout up to this point!). In our social media age, of COURSE people are talking and speculating and guessing and whatever about what's coming. And we know a big change is coming from legit sources (trade mark/pantent info, investor calls). So there is a lot of messaging out there, and none of it is confirmed as being accurate. Expecially for members who are less comfortable with change, I think this creates a lot of stress to go along with all the (mis)information and speculation. What if WW were to: 1. Announce that changes are coming - perhaps 4 - 6 weeks out. 2. Create excitement by focusing on the recent science that is the basis for the changes (ummm...the changes ARE science based, right? ) Could make this the focus of meetings during this lead up time. 3. Suggest to members things from the current plan that will remain important going forward (I'm guessing here...but maybe things like "be thinking about your favorite lean proteins... or whatever.) 4. Begin to address things that members might struggle with - things to get them ready (Guessing and making it up here... but if true: "A Smart Phone is becoming more important to being able to fully work the plan. WW being a huge international company, we have negotiated an agreement with _____________ to be able to offer a smart phone and plan and this terrific rate!") In other words - think ahead about possible negatives and come up with ways to take some of the sting out of it. Instead of allowing the bloggers and influencers and so forth control their message, WW would take back control of their own message. And we would all benefit from more accuate info, and a more comfortable transition. WIN WIN.. So can I replace Mindy? BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!! Welcome back. I'm a new member here to the boards. I LOVE your suggestions. Maybe someone in charge of things will see these and bring them up. We can only hope!

I wish we could get an advance look at the new plan, but I suppose I have to be patient! I wonder if there will be any official prior notice or it will just show up on the app on November 7th and we go from there. It would be nice to have a little idea of what is going on and what to do. I don't have faith in them doing a good job making it self-explanatory. I want the people interation when I learn things. Judy, I think we think alike! That’s how I feel. I’m hoping we can come on this site and get some accurate information. I would be thrilled to just get a simple, decent summary and know how the points are actually formulated (I heard “good” fats won’t be punished as much). Fingers crossed!

Great ideas lizzy. Dont know where my other message went. I just dont think the plan will be popular esp in regards to recipies. People do not want to go through a recipie and search to find out if the dish will be in their plan. I just don't think people will be willing to do it. Based on what i have read i can see deep changes coming after the program is formally announced in about six months.

Welcome back. I'm a new member here to the boards. I LOVE your suggestions. Maybe someone in charge of things will see these and bring them up. We can only hope! Wave to a fellow board newbie! I went to my weekly meeting right after I typed all this earlier. We had a substitute leader today who I know and LOVE (her regular meetings don't fit my schedule). It was hard to sit there knowing she is already delving into the changes and NOT being able to ask for her opinion - even just generally - no specifics required. Well, I could have asked but I know what the answer would be LOL!

I'm trying to just be patient and wait to see how it all really works. Easier said than done!!!

Many people don’t know this, but WW did not invent points. That's so interesting! Thanks for sharing this! So can I replace Mindy? BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!! Great ideas! I'd definitely vote for you! About recipes on the new plan - on iTrackBite, where there are about 6 different plans, I'm pretty sure that if someone posts a recipe in the recipe builder, then whoever opens it sees the points in their own plan, not in the plan of the original poster. I don't have the recipe builder myself because it's only available in the paid version of the app, but I'm pretty sure that's what I had read. WW presumably would do it the same way on the new plan.

Yeah, presumably like they have with the existing plans but we all know IT makes a mess of things EVERY rollout.

lizzy I am so glad you posted, welcome ❤️ A few things regarding 1&2 1. They did, we even have a link to it buried here somewhere in this thread. 2. I think they are, example, the other day they basically used your words verbatim about "recent science shows" when they were talking about sugars. I *think* it was in one of the daily emails but I actually groaned when I realized it was a "nudge" regarding the upcoming program. I honestly haven't been paying that much attention to the blurbs but I'd be willing to bet they've been clues to the upcoming program, both in the emails and on the website that's how they roll. Anyway, you have my vote too! 🤣😂

On the age thing - I would be very surprised if the points for a food were based upon height, age, or weight. What would make sense is that those things factor into how many points you get.
I do think that WW wants to tie us more to their program and not make it easy to follow WW just by using a points calculator from a web site. I doubt that people will have to specifically have a SmartPhone. However, I could see requiring internet access to fully use the plan. I confess that even though I have a smartphone I very rarely use the app. And, I use my smartphone all the time.
I just find it easier to use WW on my computer. I calculate and record most points there, etc. I think that most people probably do have either a smartphone or a tablet or a computer and have internet access. It isn't totally shocking that WW would make it where you have to have internet access to follow WW.
And, they are not alone. I actually paid for itrackbites for a year but discontinued it because you had to use the app and I wanted to use my computer browser. They are more restrictive in that way than WW. You can't follow Noom without having internet either. Yes, I know it leaves people behind who absolutely won't use a computer or smartphone or tablet. But, you know, I'm 67 and bought my first computer in 1988. I can see a business just making that requirement.
I think the recipe points is not going to be that big a deal. It won't really be that much different from now. If I see a recipe online and I want to see how many WW points it has in it I have 2 choices. I can add up the relevant nutritional info minus the 0 point part of the recipe and then create the food using that info. That is what I do almost all the time. I don't personally build my recipes in WW. In the future, I would do the same thing: use the nutritional info minus the 0 point foods. Same process.
If I want to build a recipe in WW it will work the same. Right now I put in the ingredients and WW knows I am on green and gives the points accordingly. If I tell WW I am on purple then it adjusts for that. The new plan is the same. I would put in the ingredient and WW would know what my 0 point foods are and would tell me the points accordingly.
Yes, there are a few places on the internet where people give you the WW points. But, most don't and I always check it anyway. And, often I substitute things in the recipe or make changes so I have to do my own calculation anyway.
And, I think it will also be fairly easy to just figure out points in a quick and dirty sort of way. That is look at a recipe and input the info in the calculator and come up with the point total. Then mentally subtract out things that you know are 0 point (chicken, veggies, whatever).
I just don't think it will be that though. However, because it is personalized to you it will be more difficult to follow if you aren't a WW member. Although I suspect itrackbites will figure it all out...

Kitty, that's what I was trying to express but you said it better. Age is a factor in how many points you get, not in how the points of a food are calculated.

I bet it would make a lot of people happy if they updated the app and site to be able to import recipes from a link, like MFP and other sites have had for years.

I lost 45 pounds last year on WW, then lost my mojo and I've gained close to 40 of it back. Sigh. The struggle is real. LOL I am SO not good at reading between the lines! I wish they would just come out and SAY - hey, we are getting ready to change the program and here is some important info about it! What is the marketing genius behind being secretive ("clues") v. making a splash and intentionally creating excitement? Oh well. That's why I'm here and Mindy is there, right?

@kitty, - I am like you in that I prefer using my desktop / big screen than using the app. Over time, I have slowly started using the app more (kicking and screaming) but I still prefer the big screen, and if I'm going to use the app I prefer to do that on my iPad rather than my phone - just for the screen size. I wish some of the Connect features worked on the desktop (i.e. hashtag searches - let me know if you have figured out a way to do this on your big computer).
On the subject of "Good Health Guidelines" which I see many people (including me) miss. There is probably a better a better place to put this info, but I'm not sure where so I'll start here. As I was scrolling this thread, The Holy Mess came up. I signed up for her e-mails. Warning if you don't already know this: She will BARAGE you with e-mails if you sign up. But most of them contain something useful (i.e. a recipe or whatever) in addition to her marketing of paid stuff. So for now, I'm OK with that, and collecting the free things. (I totally respect that people have to make a living, and if they can do it through their blogs, vlogs, etc. - more power to them..) One of the freebies she sent after probably 4 or 5 days is a 1 page checklist type monthly chart called "Healthy Weight Loss Habits." Topics include things like staying in calorie or points budget, eating fruits/vegs, drinking water, etc. I went ahead and did the $0 purchase (you do not have to put up a credit card to "buy" the free thing). I'm going to use this chart for a couple months and see if it serves as a good replacement for the old GHG. Just wanted to share in case others are interested. I'm not sure if you can just hunt for it on her site, or if you can only get it by signing up for her e-mails and then waiting for that message.

Kitty, I agree with all you said. I wish you’d start up your blog again, but I realize it must be a PITA to maintain it. I think I am going to take a break for awhile from all this madness, and just lurk. I have the Pointsplus plan that is working for me and easy. I do belong to the CICO Eat Pizza FB group, and to be honest, it is refreshing to read about people losing weight and feeling better, eating what THEY desire ( not what WW “encourages” them to eat), just counting calories in a simple sustainable way, and doing it THEIR way.
