neen, I agree with you. I was unhappy when Smart Points came along but managed. Then, with Free Style I turned to calorie counting so was happy when Green came along. I don't like the idea that they select the program for you. I knew Green was best for me but the quiz gave me one of the other programs so I choose Green for myself. I don't trust WW to think for me. I am counting calories so I can use that to keep myself in line but I do like also tracking on WW.

So what I get from that survey is that they will ask you about what foods you love to eat, etc and then based upon what you say they will give you a list of foods that are 0 points for you. So, for you, avocado (which I hate) might be 0 points but for me popcorn (which I enjoy) might be 0 points. I do wonder how personalized that will be. Also, I suspect that the only foods that will be eligible for 0 points will be a narrow group of foods. for example, I love nuts and eat pistachios almost every day. They are a high point food but I got to goal eating them. I would be fine with making them 0 points and having the pay points for other foods instead. But, I suspect that despite the fact they are very healthy, WW will not allow them to be 0 points. Also, WW is not necessarily great at picking stuff for me. When I did their questionnaire they wanted me to do the blue program but I did far better on green and hated blue....
The uses all macros in food is interesting. So, macros are protein, carbs and fat. Points Plus used all 3 macros, plus fiber. So that brings up a couple of questions.
Will the new points calculation use only macros? If so how will they weigh them? If they weigh them based upon calories value then, in effect, the points number is simply a stand in for calories. Based upon it saying that lower point foods will keep you fuller, longer that implies that they will weight protein lower than carbs and fat. The interesting thing is whether they will penalize carbs more than fat or vice versa or whether they treat them similarly (allowing for the different caloric value of each).
Also, they could use all 3 macros but still use other things in their calculations? Just like Points Plus used fiber plus macros? Will they use all 3 macros and sat fat or all 3 macros and sugar or all 3 macros and sat fat and sugar? Basically SP does that through using calories.
This sounds like the personalization is basically going to be what foods are 0 points for you. The points calculation will otherwise be the same for everyone. But, you could theoretically make a plan quite different depending on what foods are 0 points and depending on how extensive the 0 points food list is. Also, how do they handle "mixed" foods? That is a food that is partly 0 points and partly not.
The adding points for behavioral stuff doesn't bother. Basically they seem to be expanding Fit Points. I expect this is something that would have a lot of guardrails on it and lots of limits. That is, you might be able to add 1 point for drinking water but not more than that. Also, how many points do you have to earn before you can swap any for food? Right now I have to walk over I think 4000 steps in a day before I earn a point that I can actually eat. I could easily seeing them change this to having to earn 5 points before you could then eat the 6th point.
Also, if they cut your food points by 3 points a day because they think you will eat that many from behavioral stuff then it really doesn't make much difference in terms of added calories. But, maybe you do some good stuff to earn the right to eat those points that today you get by doing nothing...

Kitty, a lot of food for thought (sorry for the pun! ) in your post! I’ve been thinking about a lot of stuff, and I have to be honest with myself. My husband and I were talking about this last night, and with all my jabbering about “ cutting carbs” like Target 100 does, the only programs I were truly successful on in my life were the ones who cut calories, period, and did it in a way that was EASY. That is why I adored Pointsplus, because to me it was a simple way of cutting calories. Most fruit and veg were free. We counted points for everything else, and knowing one point was about 40 calories, made it so easy, I could often do it in my head and didn’t need an app. To me, that was freedom. I sure hope the new points are as easy to figure. My husband lost a lot of weight on Pointsplus too. He wants to go back on it, so I honestly need to think about my direction as well. I now have 40 pounds to lose, and I am impatient and wondering why I left a program that truly worked for me. I stopped the program, it didn’t stop working! I sure hope the new program is easy, and the points are mostly calorie based, in a way that is easy to figure, not a confusing mathematical equation where you need an app or book, etc. to look up everything. Thanks for your post.

Yikes!! They might want to think about an earlier rollout for "PersonalPoints". Thanks for posting linda72! On a side note, they couldn't think of something that didn't start with a P? We already have a PP acronym people sheesh!

Deb, I was thinking the same thing. And if they’re smart, KEEP IT SIMPLE! My take is that we’ve all been through enough these last many months, and people don’t want a program that uses too much brain power. That is what drew me to Target 100. If WW comes up with a simple, workable plan, I am in. Like so many companies during covid, they lost a lot of money. This “ personalization” plan statement doesn’t phase me, unless they take it to another level, because the current plan is supposedly based on personalization as well. Oh well, we’ll see.

Here's the link to the transcript from the Quarterly Call: WW TranscriptI just read through it quickly, there is definitely a new program coming that is to be tailored to the individual. What or how that will work, I don't know. Not much details other than it should be coming out in November. There definitely is a program coming out for diabetics. "Where my WW created our first program that matches with the Food Program that will work for you, our next program will design a plan uniquely and specifically for you by incorporating your personal preferences to create a flexible, customizable holistic plan that is as unique as you are.
In combination with an enhanced and engaging member onboarding experience we are confident that the new program will make weight loss and wellness even more simple, livable, efficacious and sustainable. Our leadership and credibility and science-based weight loss and wellness is a key competitive advantage and is why our members trust WW.
We are highly encouraged by the three months data from University of Connecticut study of our new Food Program, which showed impressive improvements in weight as well as consumer acceptability, livability and wellbeing. Our upcoming 2022 Food Program is an essential part of launching a dedicated WW offering specifically designed for people with diabetes."

Did any else notice that the weight watchers program items are on clearance? The point book has been 75% off for months, the food scale is 25-50% off cookbooks are marked down and in the clearance bin. 🤔 As a long time member I’ve seen this before. I have taken notice of that!! And when you are getting deals like that....that means in a month or two none of it will work with the plan!

If they are going to use all macros for the new points, as was mentioned in Guest’s survey, it will no longer be Smartpoints, which only use calories, saturated fat, sugar and protein. This will be interesting! For a while now I've noticed that you have to put ALL the nutritional info in for anything not already in the database; it use to only be what was needed to calculate the points and the rest was optional....for at least the past year I've a had to put everything in (though they now have an option to just take a photo of the label). It seems to me requiring all the info means they need it for some reason and what other reason could it be then a change forthcoming.

When I did their questionnaire they wanted me to do the blue program but I did far better on green and hated blue.... Same with me. I'm not a fan of zero-point food. I adjusted to zero-point non-starchy veggies from the beginning (2006), and adjusted to zero-point fruit with Points Plus because I just ate the amount I was eating when I spent points on it, but Freestyle really bothered me. I need to have numbers assigned to my food for me to track which is why I also do calorie counting now. Should relax and just wait for November.

Laura M, Just curious, what exactly do you have to enter now? I haven’t been an official member for a while, and just own that Smartpoints calculator where you enter those four macros. I am returning to Pointsplus with my husband. It’s easier if we both do the same plan. If the new WW plan is as simple as Pointsplus, I’m all in. If not, we both decided Pointsplus is it for us and no more “ experimenting”.

Judy, I agree with you ( I will have to learn to put quotes in my responses). The only foods I can count as zero are nonstarchy vegetables and the fruits. I just must count everything else!

Calories, Fat, Saturated Fat, Sodium, Carbs, Fiber, Sugar, Added Sugar and Protein are all required on the app. I agree with you - Points Plus is the good option. I'll give anything new a try (mostly because I just need something new); but I'm back to Points Plus if it doesn't work. I have the itrackbites app and will just use that.

@pointsplusgal, If you highlight what you want to quote an icon saying "Quote" comes up and you just click that.

Laura M, I wonder if the diabetic program will be offered in conjunction with hospitals, diabetes educators, endocrinologists, etc.
