Hi JoAnne!! Oh my gosh—so good to hear from you! I’m so sorry about your DH—how awful. Yes, for the wife of a husband who cannot hear it is hard—terribly hard on both people. My DH is having more and more trouble hearing. Even here alone in the house I often have to repeat things two or three times—but the audiologist says he’s about maxed out what she can do for him. All those years of hunting with no ear protection really causes a problem—you keep losing more and more hearing. I know he misses so much because after we do things he asks lots of questions about what was being talked about. And young people speak so fast these days it makes it even harder!
well, our electric car is “on” again! We fly out to Irvine Saturday early, pick up the car after we pay and head back to Vegas. It is the Genesis GV60. The color I wanted. Long long story but basically I think the marketing guy we talked to in NYC helped us. I sold my Subaru yesterday—got 28,700 for it —three years old.
We had a great time in NYC but , as always, completely wiped out—walked so much and did stairs so much. DD managed—a few times she was really struggling with the stairs but cannot believe how much better she can walk since getting the dog. She surprised all of us and flew DD18 out from MizzOu for the weekend so both girls and we were together. Such a fun surprise. DD22 danced beautifully—is working so hard to keep up school to her expectations—we only saw her for performances and dinners after. DD18 stayed with her.
My gym classes went to lunch today—first group lunch we’ve had in two years!! Was so nice.
We are firing the last of my gifts for the kids—made everyone a magic shaker—salt shaker with no holes on top and no cork or plug—hoping all turn out okay as there is no time to make new as we leave for Sacramento on Wednesday morning super early.
Sue, what actually is your parting day for your cruise? Hope you both stay healthy so you can do this!
Holly, when are you off for winter break?
Ugh—gained 4 # in NYC—just eating wrong—-too many carbs—sure tasted good but now have to get back on track again!!

Hi All,
Yes, hearing loss has so many underlying frustrations that people don’t think about. I often don’t wear my processors when I’m at home because it is exhausting to hear and communicate. My best advice is to try communicating in other ways like writing it down or texting? I know it seems silly but I’ve texted people in the same room or house when I needed to communicate, but was too lazy to put my CI processors on. Also, loud talking distorts sound, so speak in a normal voice, but enunciate.
Joan, has Gary considered cochlear implants? Sounds like a great trip!
Jo Anne, hopefully this latest round will help. They put me on steroids to see if that would improve my hearing.

So, Holly—I’ve wanted to ask you about cochlear implants—when I learned about my students, who were deaf, learning the decoding of the sounds from them, I didn’t ask whether there is a huge learning curve for people who basically have been hearing all along but are experiencing constant loss and are in danger of not being able to be corrected. And then there’s the matter of being 78–so I guess my question is, with a cochlear implant would things sound the same except loud enough to hear or would all the sounds of voices, etc, change?
SOBXSIL’S FATHER got them in his early 70’s and was nearly deaf because he never wore his hearing aids until he was so bad he couldn’t hear at all==anyway, he just gave up and hears no one—talks whenever he has something to say, never hooks up his implants. So I’ve always wondered about how DH would react if everything sounded strange to him.
We did fly to Irvine, CA, and drove our GV60 car home—was very stressful as we mis figured our charge distance because when you charge away from home you only take the charge to 80%—on top of which it was very cold and there is a pass that is very high and it burns more energy to do constant climbing. Anyway, we barely made it to Vegas—had to stop at an outlet mall on the south end of town to get a bit of charge to get out to our house as we are way out on the west end of town. Anyway, it was a good learning experience—on the necessity to plan ahead correctly and to know where the charging stations are so you stop at the right intervals. Ordinarily we will only drive in town but it drives so nice that we talked about possibly driving to SLC to see our DS there sometime. NV just doesn’t have enough charging mid state but going to UT would be easy as there are more towns that do have them. NV is just too rural and too big!
we leave for CA on WEdnesday—really not ready—I could easily stay home—I think having covid in August really affected me—I get waves of not feeling well and I think I’ve got it again—a few hours later I feel better but in the midst of it I feel really yucky. That happened this morning and I thought I would have to test. But now about five hours later I feel nearly normal. So weird. Happened in NYC several times too. Makes me feel like a mental case!

Good night morning ladies. I’m going to try this with some punctuation I hope it works. This week we really have nothing planned and I’m really being lazy. I just have to pick up the meat for a Christmas dinner and do some grocery shopping on Wednesday. The kids are staying with me Friday night well DS and DDILGo out. Oh me! This is so much easier than writing all of this.
No more riding threads for me. I can’t believe how much easier this is.I’m cooking Christmas Eve dinner for the family and then we’re all going to church together. Can’t wait this is first time in a long time we’ve done this on Christmas Eve. I love it that Christmas comes on Sunday so that we can all go to church together Christmas Eve.
Joan- I have to type your name in, as every time I say it it puts in my name oh well minor problem. Did you keep another car other than the electric? Gas here is pretty reasonably priced as our governor took away the state tax which brings it down quite a bit so it’s running about $2.86 a gallon. I know you aren’t doing it because of the price of gas,But that would be a Determining factor for me.
I probably won’t be back home here before Christmas, so I do want to write wish everybody a wonderful Christmas celebration. I do hope everyone gets to see family. How about you Sue?
Holly-has it been it’s cold there is it’s been here the last couple of days? I think it’s even getting colder with a low of 10 one day in the next few days.
I just stayed cuddled up with my sweet kitty on my lap watching TV and knitting and crocheting. See you all in the new year!

I do see some typos in the above post. Please excuse. But it certainly isn’t as bad as the first voice thread I did.

Ugh, just hit some wrong key and lost the beginning of my post! I use a regular keyboard as I love to type my messages—hate touch screen for typing ==so I totally understand your frustration, JoAnne—don’t worry about typing my name—I’ll understand the post anyway!
Wow, 10º must be a record for Atlanta, isn’t it?
We really got the electric car just as our part of helping the earth—we know we will never save enough in our lifetime to make up for it. But I must say I love driving it. No noise is just amazing as DH and I can have conversation without repeating things or struggling to hear each other! And it drives like a dream!
we are in CA in the trailer in DD’s driveway—have a little portable heater that was enough to keep us cozy last night without turning on the trailer heat which is somewhat noisy. CA is under a layer of fog so it’s damp and chilly here—wearing layers and wondering why I didn’t bring my new coat I bought for going to NYC a couple weeks ago! I have my shorter coat but love that long one. I just didn’t think it would be so humid and it looks as tho the fog will be here all week!
Merry Christmas, everyone!!

Hi!
Happy Christmas Eve!
I've been so busy since coming back from Philly trip. So much going on with the house and starting to get organized for our cruise. The construction manager wants to get as much done as possible before we leave.
Jojo, so good to hear from you. I can't believe all that you've gone through with Larry's health issues and remodeling your house on top of everything. Sounds like you are getting your house to be exactly how you want it. Wonderful that you had the whole family together for Thanksgiving.
Joan, great that you finally got your new car, I would have been so stressed out driving back and low on charge! Really cool that Valerie bought one of your pieces! Do you think you might have long Covid? Hope it goes away soon.
Holly, is the fence all done now? Yes, we still have the condo, still on the market but no offers since last spring. I stayed there for 4 nights then went to suburbs and stayed with my mom then my sisters.
We depart on the 4th, fly to Miami. As part of our package, we get to forward 2 pieces of luggage each and they picked up this past Wednesday. This is great because it forced us to get organized earlier and we will only have 2 pieces of carryon each. Also part of the package is a night at the Four Seasons with a gala dinner the night before embarkation. We know at least one couple friends on board and she and I have been emailing, etc. Will be great to see them.
It was great seeing family and friends at Thanksgiving time. We celebrated my mom's 80th birthday early, since I can't be there next week - to close to our departure to Miami. There were 24 of family and her friends at a restaurant for dinner to celebrate. I really do miss the city and how easy it was to get around, everything was so familiar and felt like I was coming home.
So now I'm in the middle of that low carb diet again before the trip. Rack of lamb on tap today and steak tomorrow. It ends so that I can treat myself to some carbs on NYE. Not that there is no carbs at all on this diet, there's plenty fruit and a limited amount bread allowed. No sweets which is fine with me, but also no alcohol, which is actually easier than I thought it would be for me to give up.

Hi All,
Merry Christmas. I have been off since the 22nd, and go back on the 3rd. The fence is almost done. Dad just needs to add the big gate for lawn mower access.
It got down to 8 degrees on Friday night. We got home really late from Greensboro and the car said 9 degrees. Brrrr.
Sue, is that diet similar to Whole30? Bon voyage!
Jo Anne, hope all are well in your house.
Joan, hope you had a great trip. They’re putting an EV charger in this one light town. Such a shocker.
My main goal for 2023 is to figure out how to get involved in more things. There is no public transportation. I can walk to work, the grocery store, etc, but have to rely on people to take me to anything else.

I’m going to start a new thread for 2023. We don’t seem to be communicating as much but I do like hearing from you both—and JoAnne occasionally.
