Hello Hope you are all doing well today. We had a cold day yesterday, and today too. The snow yesterday was very light and it's all melted now. Today is sunny, so that's nice. I received my free covid tests today. I'd heard they may not be good if they get cold - it's only in the 20s here today, so I wonder if them sitting in the mailbox will affect them. I finished putting the borders around my barn embroidery and I'm satisfied with it being done. It's not my best work, since some of the seams don't match, but you can't tell from a distance. I'm just happy to finish a project I'd wanted to make for years. I also used some of the leftover HSTs I had one of my Fall Frolic quilts and I was able to make 3 Friendship star blocks. I'm thinking about whether I'll join them into something, or maybe just add them to my group of orphan blocks. I got the cutting table cleared off too and pulled fabrics for the Flapjack quilt along that starts on Friday. I have more than I need, so I need to figure out which ones I'll use. And I did some hand quilting last night and today. The quilt I'm working on has 16 blocks and I've finished quilting in two of them. I figured if I can get a block done each day for the rest of the month, I'll have it finished by Feb 28th. I'll see if I can keep up with that I was going to do some crochet this weekend, but I can't find the yarn for a project that I'd already crocheted one skein with. I know I have 4 other skeins somewhere but they were not where I normally keep them, so I need to look around. Hope you are all getting to do some crafting too. Take care

CJ, the fabric you picked for the border on that barn wall hanging are perfect. I love how you set goals and know what you're going to do next. As for your misplaced yarn I have to say I've had the same problem. I was working on a baby blanket back in 2008 at ds' home and used the yarn I had taken with me but when I got home I couoldn't find the other skeins and still haven't found them to this day. It's a project that I've intended to finish ever since then but with a different color which will actually work fine because it's to where it can be considered done after I put a border on it.
Ginny, I did watch the entire Super Bowl and dh watched it too which was a huge surprise because he doesn't care at all about football.
Today so far has been sorting and organizing things and finding things that need to be tossed since trash pickup is tomorrow. Now I'm going to relax and do some enjoyable things this evening. Oh I also did a little laundry. Do either of you have a day in which you do certain things like Monday is for laundry, Tues for cleaning bathrooms etc ? I don't. I just do those chores when they are needed.
It was warm here yesterday and today. You both must be having the weather that we had last week.

CJ - that barn quilt turned out so pretty!!! Love the fabric you used as a border and frame!
Ruth- I sort of have some structure to when I do some chores, and I do like not to do major housework on Sunday. I do not usually follow a strict schedule however- if that makes any sense.

I woke up last night realizing that I had not checked in since early am…
CJ- like Janes wall hanging ( a magnificent mini quilt with one small disconnect between elements of the block), unless you pointed out the mistake- its just really pretty and should be enjoyed!! How large is this piece? What is your plan, quilt, frame…perhaps even put into a pillow? Because it does not appear to be huge, I think this piece deserves to be out and enjoyed, whether on a wall or a pillow or whatever. Nice job!!! Have. You made any decisions regarding the flapjack quilt and which fabrics you will use? Love your goals for the hand quilting project!! Sounds like you are on target to finish that and then can move onto your next goal.
Ruth, sorting and tossing- an honorable pursuit!! Were you able to get out for trash day what you wanted? That is another area in which goals are important. Its good to have an idea of the area you want to clean up and straighten out, even if that is just one small drawer or shelf. Glad you are enjoying warmer weather too and got some housework done.
I sort of have a schedule….most of the time I do laundry Saturday and if I need another laundry day that might be Wednesday. And I try to get the housework (big stuff like bathroom cleaning and vacuuming) done between Friday and Saturday. Its not a strict schedule. And when it gets done, it gets done.
Today I hope to continue work in the family room (where the waterproofing project took place). I am really tired of it looking out of sorts, so I hope to finish the carpet tiles (only a few more pieces to cut and lay) and downsize some stuff. The plumber is scheduled to arrive in a week (2/25) to install the gas line. I am using the plumber who will actually show up and gave up completely on my friends son who is unreliable. I should have given up on him in December- but had to give him more of a chance than I would have given another plumber because he is a dear friends son.
Also hoping to get some work done on the PMQ blocks. Perhaps I can finish both of them and then be ready for the March shipment.
Cold here today- but we are in for a slow warm up and at least will not be dealing with any snow.
See ya later Ginny

Hello Ruth - I'm glad you were having some warm weather This year I decided to have a more set schedule to do things around the house and so far I've been sticking with it since January. I always do better with goals/rules, otherwise I'd do nothing I have a request for you if you read down further and look at the picture I'm attaching. This is an afghan I was working on a few years ago using Bernat Blanket Yarn. I thought the pattern was 6 rows of single crochet, then 1 row of double crochet and then repeat (I've lost the pattern). But it seems like maybe it's only 2 or 3 rows of single crochet between the double crochet rows? Are you able to figure out how many single crochet rows from the picture? Thanks for any help you can give me. Ginny - I'm glad that you are finally going to get a plumber to come to the house, and I hope he shows up and does the work for you. I also hope you are able to get some things done in the family room today. It's been cold here too, but fortunately no snow either. The barn wall hanging finished at 27x27. It goes in the stack of finished quilt tops, no telling if I'll ever get it quilted I went to a funeral this morning, this gentleman was a longtime family friend and the 6th person I know that has passed away since September. I hadn't mentioned to you that my uncle passed away in January. He was the last of my aunts and uncles, they are all gone now and losing the last ones from my mother and father's families just feel like losing my parents again. I sure hope I get a break from losing anymore people for awhile, all these losses have really left me feeling down. The funeral service was very nice though and I saw several people who used to be neighbors and many that were friends of my parents. The family asked for letters about the man that passed away instead of flowers, and they also gave a few organizations for donations if that was desired. It was nice to write a letter to give to them and I hope they enjoy the things I shared about him. Here's the picture of my crochet afghan - if Ruth is not sure on the rows of single crochet, I'm just going to wing it Take care

CJ, yes in that picture it's six rows of sc between the dc rows. I'm sorry you had yet another funeral to attend. I think that all my aunts and uncles are gone. There may be one left who is my father's half sister and she's several years younger than me. She is an odd one and never stayed close to the family even the brother and sister who are her full siblings. Guess I'll do a search and see if she is still alive. Lost my last full aunt and one of the ones I loved dearly back on 2001.
Ginny, I know you'll be glad when all the plumber work is done and you can get that room fully back in use.
Went to Walmart today as dh wanted to see if they had leftover VD candy. They had one and it was one we don't care for but we were able to buy some other things we needed.

Ruth - Thanks so much for letting me know how many rows of SC there are, now I can keep working on this. I can only do it when it's cold, it gets so hot in my lap with all that heavy yarn. My father used to always go up to the drug store the day after each "candy" holiday and buy what they had on sale Ginny - I forgot to answer your questions about fabric for the FlapJack quilt along. I'm going to use the fabric I had bought and originally intended to use for the Sweet Dreams quilt along, it has pinks, grays and golds in it. I'll still have enough left to make another quilt too.

Oh crud….I had a lovely response written and its lost.
CJ- my sincere condolences on the loss of your uncle, last month and your family friend. I’m glad you were able to attend services for your friend today, it does help to be able to share memories with others and just see other people who also care about the person who is now gone from us forever. And it’s a bummer to lose so many people live in a short amount of time, and yes a constant reminder of the many people in our past that we’ve lost. Did you attend services for your uncle last month? I checked out the picture you gave us of the Afghan you’re working on to see if I could also distinguish between the rows of single crochet in double crochet and I was. I know Ruth is our resident expert and I was curious as to whether I would be able to make the same assessment. Of course I would trust her word way more than my own! It looks like a nice project and I hope you have enough yarn to complete it. I’m gonna bug you a little bit, a 27 x 27 inch quilt top is definitely a nice size for a wall hanging and put the charming somewhere in your home. I wish you would try to do something with it so you can enjoy some of the beautiful work that you do. I mean it’s fun to enjoy doing the work but also that you would enjoy being able to see it in your home. The colors are neutral enough that I think it would be great.
Ruth, I’m glad you were able to get to Walmart, and get some errands done. I know many people do the same thing they go there for the candy that’s marked way down the day after a holiday and it’s probably just as well that they did not have the candy that you and your husband like.
As far as the plumbing work getting done, I feel very confident that it will happen, this is the same plumber who was so prompt at restoring the heat from my son’s room, he was here exactly when I wanted him here and worked very quickly. I’m very frustrated right now because when I go down in that roomIt is still cold because there was no heat source. Had the other plumber shown up I would already have that heater working and everything would be comfortable. The problem will be fixed next week so I just need to be patient.
Hope everyone has a good evening and get some crafting in!
Ginny

I was just checking my email and I have an email of both the estimate to perform the work and a second email to confirm the appointment for when the plumbing work will be done. Nice to think that they pay such attention to detail.

CJ, yes that blanket yarn is defiitely very warming and it's very hard to work with in making an afgan in the summer. Winder it's great because it keeps you warm. Yes all those loses you've had in that short period of time definitely would be depressing. It's a lot to deal with.
Ginny, I'm glad you have a plumber that you can trust to be there when he promises to be and one who's work you can trust. You did your good deed for your friend but it didn't work, not because of you but because the son of your friend is not reliable. And yes it is good that the store didn't have the candy. We sure don't need to be eating much candy.

Think I wanna cry!! Mr unreliable plumber- who has stood me up 3 times for this project, just texted me an asked me if he could come to my house to do that plumbing tie in!! WHAT??? I have other appointments the time he has suggested, and he might not get here anyway, so tomorrow I will graciously decline. I know I will pay much more for the other plumber, but he shows up when I need him.

Sorry I was in total shock last night when the plumber texted me. When I have been up a bit longer and have my wits about me, I will respond with some gracious text thanking him for responding (2 weeks after my last text and “appointment” which he never kept!) and politely inform him thatI was forced to go elsewhere to have this work done. Of course my wallet is screaming at me to cancel the appointment with my neighbor plumber (who does this for his business and has been super reliable), If I were to cancel my neighbor plumber would for sure see my friends son arrive in his truck…and well that does not look good for me. I have to accept that my neighbor is my plumber - he is not cheap but shows up and does what is expected- and has installed my air conditioner and replaced my heater 15 years ago. Hope I am making sense. My friends son, I would hope would get here if I had an emergency, because I am his mom’s friend. So frustrating.
Got some down time later on today as I did a ton of housework yesterday also. Think my embroidery is calling my name.

Hello Ginny - I'm sorry you are having to deal with the plumber issue, it's tough. I'm glad you do have a dependable one planning to come, even if he's more expensive. Hope you were able to get some embroidery done today. Ruth - Hope you were able to work on some crochet today. Thanks so much for your sympathies for my losses, I appreciate that. They have not decided on a memorial service yet for my uncle. I hope I'll be able to go to that. He lived about 4 hours away from me so it would be a long day of driving and I'm not sure I'd want to stay overnight somewhere, but I'll have to see. I also appreciate you both caring about me hanging up my quilts, but I want to let you know that I don't ever plan, or want, to hang up any quilts in the house I'm currently living in (for various reasons). Hopefully someday I can move and hang up some of them then I finished one of the Sweet Dreams blocks (the pattern came out today, but still need to cut and decide on fabrics for the other. There were a lot of small pieces in this week's block, so making one took awhile. I hope to get the other one done tomorrow. The weather has been nice today, sunny and in the 50s. Hope your weather has been nice too. Take care
