Hello Thanks for your thoughts on my quilts. I may add borders to the squares one later, once I take some time away from it and also see what fabric I have left after the FlapJack quilt is done. We're getting 3 or 4 days of 60 degree weather here, but some rain the next few days, today is sunny. I cleaned my sewing machine today and put on a new needle, I try to do that once a month. And I pulled out one of my older unfinished quilt tops. It's a small Irish Chain wall hanging that I want to add some appliqued shamrocks onto it. I have the shamrocks cut I've just not been happy with my machine applique. But I tested something out today and I think I will applique them down with a zig-zag stich. I have 10 of them to stitch down. I hope to get that done soon. I keep pulling this out every year before St. Patrick's Day and never get it done, so I hope this is the year After I shut off the furnace for about 4 hours yesterday and then turned it back on it heated up the downstairs pretty well. I think it gets in a cycle where it shuts on/shuts off so much that it just doesn't give time for heat to get in the radiators. So even though I'm told to leave it on all the time, I may not be able to do that. Hope you both have a good day and get to do some crafting. Take care

Happy new week everyone. It's very cold here. Right now at 2pm it's 6 degrees. I'll be glad when this week is over.
The doll I bought has an extreme overwhelming odor of baby powder. I like the smell of baby powder but this is just WAY too strong. I had to take it back upstairs. I'm hoping this odor will disippate soon. I know I won't be able to work with it in here. The smell even seeping into my clothing and I smell like a baby powder factoryl
CJ, I'm sorry about your furnace but glad to hear that you were finally able to warm your downstairs. It sounds like your furnace just isn't working with the radiator system you have. A border is going to really make that quilt top shine. Maybe a small border then a wider one?
Ginny, I hope you have a good day and have enjoyed your walk

Dd used to have a doll that smelled of baby powder- it was embedded in the plastic.
CJ- I know you have a service contract on this heater. Wonder if an end of the year tune up might help?
Got some embroidery in this am…..bbl to be more social!

I wouldn't mind if it smelled of baby powder if it wasn't so excessive. The over powering smell actually gave me a headache. I messaged Amazon and was told they refunded my money. This doll also arrived in a box that you would see it in in a store. They didn't put it in a normal Amazon box but just put about 10 long strips of tape over it and it also had tape put on by the USPS or UPS. The doll it'self was inside a zip locked pag. Still it arrived in good shape except for that very strong fragrance.
Last eveing I didn't have the things I needed downstairs to complete the makeup bag so instead I made two hats. Made me feel better to find that I could make one in about two hours. I used to be able to make a basic hat in an hour and a half and have been thinking that I slowed down. I do realize now that I'm doing more intricate hats now so that's what slowed me down.

Ruth - I'm sorry to hear about the smell on the doll. I know some smells give me a terrible migraine, so I understand how it affected you. Hope that you can stay warm in that freezing cold weather! Ginny - I have my yearly service for the furnace due at the beginning of May. Since I've had technician here 4 times since November, I'm not going to deal with them anymore unless the furnace completely shuts off Fortunately with the mild weather the next few days, I can just turn it off and give the poor thing a rest. I threaded some needles for more hand quilting this afternoon, but that's the extend of my crafting today. Take care and have a good evening

Ruth, I wonder if there is something you can do to help the excessive smell leave the doll? Anyway, its good that amazon has refunded your money. I wonder if its in order to leave a review about the doll for others warning about the super strong fragrance. Dont be so hard on yourself…if you are making more challenging hats, well of course they will take more time. Think the interesting question is…..how many different hat patterns have you made in your life?
CJ- so does this leave you searching for a new heater repair service? I do remember how you have struggled with this heater this winter and gotten no satisfaction from your present repair people. And yes I am thankful for you that you are in for milder temps for a few days. Give you and your heater a break!!!! Glad you got your sewing machine cleaned and with a new needle. Bet with all the quilting you do there was plenty of lint- but as you do not always work with batting, as least that should keep the lint down a bit.
I did get to work on the embroidery this evening….and am getting ready to move onto the flowers and not just the grass. Think I will get some more work done on it tomorrow - at least I hope so!!

I've been reading online about how to get the smell out of the doll and it looks like no one has any good solutions to the problem. Some have washed them with vinegar, some put them in plastic bag filled with baking soda. Some people have washed them in their washing machines and all still have some odor. It doesn't look like anyone likes the artificial smell of baby powder that's infused into the vinyl.Several people have mentioned that the odor triggered an asthma attack or a migrane.
I haven't accomplished much in the way of crocheting the last few days except for those two hats. I haven't finished the makeup bag completely yet and didn't finish the water bottle holder I started yesterday. I'm going to try to do that today.
I hope you're having a good day both enjoyable and safe.
CJ, I'm glad you're having weather that's warm enough to do what you have to do with your furnace. It's still below zero here so good thing you don't live here.Your furnace would get a workout.

Hello Ginny - Sounds like you are making lots of progress on your embroidery piece Since I have a service contract with the current company for my furnace, I'll just stick with them for now. Ruth - Sorry there aren't any solutions for getting rid of that smell. I've had things that smelled that gave me migraines, so I understand how that would affect some people. Hope you can stay warm. It was in the 60s here today and I think tomorrow is supposed to be up around 70. I haven't done any crafting today because I had to show up for jury duty this morning. I ended up not getting on a jury, so that was a relief. I wouldn't have minded just being on one for a day, but the driving to and from this courthouse is in a lot of traffic and it's a bit stressful for me to do that type of driving since I avoid it. I probably could have gotten out of going today, but this was the second time in 2 years that they summoned me and I figured if I didn't get it over with, I'd just get another summons in a few years. Hopefully now I won't. It's ironic that my bedroom temperature was so nice last night, not too hot or cold, but I was stressed about today and had trouble sleeping Hopefully I'll sleep better tonight. Take care

CJ, I don't know your age but was wondering if your state has a age limit above which you can opt out of jury duty? Here I think it's 72. I've never received anything regarding jury duty in my entire life but my dh has twice. Once when we first moved here which was 32 years ago and the second last week. The one last week was just an advance notice that he was being considered for jury duty over a few months and that they wanted him to fill out the questionnaire. We were able to do the questionairre online. He hasn't heard back from them yet.
I'm going to moveto your area, CJ, I love the idea of it being 70. High here got up to 4.
I got the water bottle holder done except I want to put the handle on with buttons and I still have to do that. I'm going to put the zipper in the makeup bag. I've only done that once and it didn't turn out real nice. I've watched some videos since so hopefully I've learned something.
BBL to see if Ginny checks in

Yike!!! CJ- glad you got that jury duty over with. Such a pain in the neck….but now you are off the hook for awhile. As Ruth said, some states have an age restriction or permit age to be an exemption. I do remember my mom telling NJ that she was too old to have to drive to the county seat, and the law agreed with that. Glad your bedroom was pleasant last night. We are heading into the time of year when heat is not needed….but then it gets too hot.
Ruth, hoping to hear that you have mastered the zipper in the makeup bag and that you got the water bottle holders done. 70 degrees is pleasant yes- warmer does not make me a happy camper. I would think that the baking soda seems to be the least offensive way to get that smell out of a baby doll….
Good to be home.and its been a long day. All my flights went well and the drive to the airport this am, thank you Lord, went well enough. Got a little bit of embroidery done this afternoon…looking forward to some machine time tomorrow afternoon. Ginny

Somehow I didn't manage to get back her until now. I'm glad to see that you got home safely and your flights and trip to the airport went fairly well too. It's always so nice to be back home and while visiting is usually enjoyable it's great to be back to your own routine. Sending a prayer of thanks.

Looks like I am in for some snow Friday…I did some embroidery while gone, but found that reading the novel I am working on the easiest to do. On the one flight I was the middle seat which does not afford much elbow room, reading was the better option. Got some errands this am but hope to get to work on my PMQ this afternoon. The next shipment will be in a little over a week and I do not want to get behind on that..

Hello Ginny - I'm glad you made it home safely and hopefully you enjoyed your trip. I hope you can get the PMQ quilt work done so you're ready for the next one. I also hope you don't get too much snow, looks like I'll avoid it this time. Ruth - Good luck with putting the zipper in the makeup bag, I hope it goes well. Has your weather gotten any warmer? I hope so. As for the jury duty, I'm still below the age to opt out. I think it's 70 for jury duty in my area. I don't actually mind the actual jury duty itself, as long as the trial is not for a violent crime. It's just all that goes into getting prepared to go and then getting there, parking, etc. It's hard to explain but it's all just very stressful for me. And now that I get more of these migraines without any warning, I was worried I'd be there for several days and maybe get one while I was there. Fortunately it didn't happen. It's supposed to be around 70 here today, it's in the mid-60s right now, then it's in the 30s tomorrow - crazy weather I went out this morning to pick up a few groceries, and there were a few things I didn't find. It's strange what is stocked and what isn't. I also stopped in JoAnn's since I hadn't been there for a month or so and picked up some pretty springtime fabrics to maybe participate in Pat Sloan's Block a Day in March. She's offered 3 different blocks to use. I don't really care for the main one that much (String Bean Block), but I do like the Floating Star and the Half Log Cabin. I would like to try a few of the String Bean blocks, but they finish very large 12.5x15.5 and that would be a big quilt with 31 blocks. The Floating Star blocks finishes at 9.5x9.5, so you could make 30 blocks with 5 across and 6 down and that would not be too big to work on. I think the Half Log Cabins are 12.5x12.5. I'm leaning towards the star blocks even though I wanted to avoid snowballing/triangles but I think it might be the best best. www.ilovetomakequilts.com/2022/02/-sweet-dreams-block-8-another-surprise.html - if you scroll down this page some you can see the String Bean blocks in pinks/greens. And there are links to the other two blocks. The new Sweet Dreams block #8 is out this week (you can see that on the page I linked above too). Looks like a lot of little 2 inch HST to make - 16 in all! The hardest thing is figuring out the fabrics, so I have to think about that for a bit. Hope you all get to do some crafting today. Take care
