Good morning again!
I think we all like those "boring" projects sometimes, that keep our hands busy but allow concentration to be diverted to television, an audio book or conversation. I do not knit, so will have to look up what a stockinette stitch is. Sounds like a lovely project though.
I will quilt this quilt myself. I am not even sure if I will use sashing or not, and am now considering using quilting flannel as a backing. That decision I will make when I am almost done with the quilt top. As far as quilting, I might stitch in the ditch, (actually just alongside the ditch) or stipple. Will have to make up a spare piece or two to see which I prefer the appearance of.
So tired today. It's a bit chilly, which I will take over hot any day.
Hi to Phyl, Meg, Ruth and CJ. Happy MOnday! Ginny

Good morning Ginny and all who come in later or who read here.
Ginny, I think flannel for the backing is a great idea and stitching beside the ditch sounds like a great idea also. It's really a nice look.
I think we may be going out today but I'm not sure yet. We may go pick up the battery for our little car. I was going to make a doctor appointment to see her about what I think may be a UTI but it seems better today so I'll wait another day and see what happens in that regard.I'm really good at procrastination. It's one of those things I need to work on.
It's cooler here today too, Ginny, It's to be in the 60's all week except for Wed when it will get to 80.Today high of only 53 I believe they said. You'd love it

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today for this new week Ginny and Ruth - Here's a link to some information on the Great British Baking Show. They start with a group of contestants and there are 3 different bakes on each episode. A person is eliminated each week until the Final 3 and then one of them wins. I really like Mary Berry (one of the judges), she's very famous as a baker in England. www.pbs.org/food/shows/great-british-baking-show/ - if you scroll down there is a preview video www.pbs.org/show/great-british-baking-show/ - this page has a bunch of videos too The neat thing about this show is that it is just so civilized. Everyone is polite and supportive and the judges aren't nasty. It's just a pleasure to sit and watch the show. Sometimes I'll make a cup of tea to drink while watching it Meg - I hope you are getting in some crafting and hopefully your DD can come to visit soon. Ginny - The quilt sounds like it's coming along. Ruth - That was a smart idea to use a magnet for that crochet necklace. I did get some hand quilting in yesterday and enjoyed it. I need to try to do some each day. I also called and set up an appointment in June to rent the long arm machine at the quilt shop where I took lessons. I wanted to get back there before too much time goes by. I can have up to 3 hours on the machine to quilt as many quilts as a I can. I'm going to go through my quilt tops and find several that I'm not very "invested" in, that I just did for fun and take those to quilt. I'll save my larger ones and those I spent more money and time on for when I'm more experienced. I have an idea for another quilt top that I might work on this week. If I do I'll let you know about it when I work on it. Take care everyone!

Hello Ginny, Ruth & cj,
The temp will reach 98 today and I just turned the A/C on. Soon I will have to go and get Devin from school. I did work on my b/blanket yesterday and listened to a book. I will probably do the same later today.
Ginny, stocking stitch is knitting one row garter stitch and the next row purl. Those are the 2 basic knitting stitches. If you can knit those 2 stitches you can knit most anything.
Ruth, hope you don't have a uti but better check it out to be sure. Sounds like you have a lot of work ahead of you. That's good that you can rent the machine. to practice on.
cj, are you starting to feel a little more motivated again? DD did not come home on Sunday so It will be next Sat when she gets here. She foes to a Pride workshop every day during the week.
Time to go get Devin. I am sure he will be hot and thirsty and anxious to get home.
Have a good evening.

Good evening!
Ruth, hope you are not getting a UTI- are you prone to them? They can be so very uncomfortable....but wait....did I remember correctly that you are a nurse? Take good care of yourself and get medical help if you need it. Your family and friends (like us!) love having you around. You bet I love weather in the 50's! Fuzzy sweaters, flannel, fleece....right now its a raw 58 degrees here, I am already in my warm flannel pj's and am loving it. Did you end up going out today?
CJ- indeed, its awesome that you will be getting a 3 hour time to use the long arm. I remember about how long it took me to stipple that baby quilt- my guess is 4 hours, but then I am self taught and using a home quilting machine. The long armer is probably much more efficient. Thanks for the info on the great British baking show. I will see if I can DVR it, it sounds like a nice show to watch. So you are a tea drinker also! What kind of tea do you like? RIght now I am enjoying a nice decaf herbal tea- its supposed to taste like a black tea only its herbal. That way I can fall asleep when I want to.
Meg-keep that AC going if it's that hot! 98 degrees is not good for you! I do appreciate the description of stockinette stitch. I do envy you knitters, but think I am just going to continue being a hooker, cause I sort of know what I am doing- and learn more about quilting. I hope Janet is able to come to visit next weekend. How does she handle the heat?
Mondays are always long. Tomorrow I am driving another trip- which will give me time to read and embroider. It's not all bad! Ok have a great evening. WHen does Phyl return, does anyone remember? Ginny

CJ, thanks for the info. That sounds like my kind of show. I'll have to look it up to see if it's shown here. I can't record because my DVR won't record the local channels. That's fantastic that you can use that long arm for three hours and great that you're already getting the quilts together that you want to use. I know you'll do a great job
Meg, stay cool and stay hydrated. Very hot weather is not healthy for those of us that are "older".
Ginny, how was work today on the new week? How are those children you mentioned to us a couple months ago? No I didn't go out after all. It was raining and I'm just not able to see well enough to drive in rain. of course now that it's late in the day the sun is coming out. I don't want to endanger people's lives so I don't drive when I can't see well and that includes night. It doesn't rain often here so I'm not used to it anymore. Our temp today maybe got up to about 54 and as you mentioned it's a good day for fleece, flannel, and sweats, nice comfy blankets and hot tea. I used to drink tea all the time and coffee only at work and when I was out. I don't like flavored coffee or tea except for the I Love Lemon by Bigelow and Lemon Zinger and now and then Earl Grey. Now mostly though I drink coffee that is half decaffeinated. Dh never drank coffee then about 9 years or so ago he started drinking iced coffee and took an interest in coffees so I make it for him and I drink it too only mine is hot. I drink hot coffee and tea even in the summer. He drinks only cold beverages which I don't care for.
What kind do you drink CJ
I saw Phyl's name that she had posted on the over 60's board so she's safely home.
Ginny, basically the stockinette stitch looks like the stitch used in just plain old sweaters and I guess you would call the hat style just a beanie. It's kinda like the one you made for your dgd only in knit. When I make the hats I use a circular needle so I dont have to do alternating knit and purl rows just all knit because you're work all stays on the same side.To me crochet is way easier than knitting and for me it sure is faster
Ginny, yes I am a retired RN. That's kind of both good and bad
It's great you have a trip tomorrow to drive for. Have a good time embroidering while you wait in between the driving the kids there and the taking them back to school or home.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Meg - It's really been hot there, hope you are staying cool. I'm glad you were able to work on your blanket and listen to a book yesterday. Ginny - I hope you are able to get some embroidery in today and that the trip went well. Ruth - Your weather cooler. I hope you can find The Great British Baking show to watch somewhere. You might find it on YouTube. I'm a boring tea drinker I like regular Lipton tea, but sometimes I'll drink some Twinings English Breakfast tea. From time to time I'll try some specialty teas, but I find I just don't care for them. This is too bad, because I just love the feel and tradition of tea time. There's a magazine I pick up every other month called Tea Time that has beautiful photos and reviews of teas and recipes - some nice articles too. I have found a new favorite tea that is very smooth - it's Tetley Black and Green tea - it's a mix of black tea and green tea. They come in tea bags and I enjoy the taste and hopefully I'm getting the benefits of both the black and the green tea. I finished a quilt top today. This one was my own design. I used a charm pack and sewed a 2 1/2 strip of cream colored fabric to the side of each charm square. Then I staggered the blocks with the cream colored fabric first to the left, then to the right of the charm fabric and sewed those blocks together in rows of 7 across and 6 down. Then I put a inner border of cream fabric 1 inch wide (finished), then I added a darker border 3 inches wide (finished), then I added a cream border again 2 inches wide (finished), and finally I added the outer border in a darker fabric that finished at 6 inches wide. The whole quilt measured 56x64 when I was done. Here's the Charm Pack: www.fatquartershop.com/mille-couleurs-charm-packwww.emeraldcityfabrics.com/moda-3-sisters-mille-couleurs-charm-pack.html - better showing of the color of the fabrics www.sewsweetquiltstore.com/shop/Moda-Fabric-Sold-by-Yardage-/Mille-Couleurs--by-3-Sisters-for-Moda-Fabrics-/p/Mille-Couleurs-by-3-Sisters-for-Moda-Fabrics44085-12-x9551976.htm - this is the outer borderI can't find a good picture of the inner border, but it's a deep red color with a diamond pattern in gold stripes - kind of like a harlequin pattern, like this fabric, but with red instead of brown:www.etsy.com/listing/252712382/mille-couleurs-floral-trellis-diamonds?ref=marketSewing those long borders is a pain, but I'm happy with the finished product. Take care everyone!

Hello to all. I just got home about a half hour ago. Went to the other side of town to pick up the battery that I had to order. AFter that we went to Long John Silvers and had fish and fries then to one grocery store. CAme home and read online that there was a funnel cloud that was supposed to be over this area at 2pm so I'm glad our house and neighborhood were all intact.
CJ, your quilt top sounds beautiful and from the colors and patterns of the fabric on those sites I know it has to be beautiful.
Meg, I hope it's not too hot there today or that you're able to stay in side in the a/c.
Ginny, I hope you're having a good day and that you got a good night's sleep.
I'm going to rest and crochet the rest of the day. See you later
CJ, I pretty much drink mostly regular tea. I love Red Rose.As I said, now I drink more coffee but when I drank mostly tea it was just the regular stuff

Good evening! Phyl- welcome home! Where did you visit on vacation- obviously a location that had an Amish settlement. (Did you get to an Amish quilt shop?). Like Ruth, I hope Mary Jo's husband is ok and getting treatment he needs. Funny you mention the Amish, I am in the last third of a book I took out on Amish culture- its a slow read but interesting. Ruth, glad you made it home ok from your errands. Hope you get some crocheting time in too! CJ- gee that half black half green tea sounds interesting. What does it taste like, more green or black? Do you add milk or not? (I add milk to black tea, but drink green tea straight). Love the colors in the quilt top you finished. They look an awful lot like the colors in the falling leaves quilt that I have the charm packs for. And no you are not a boring tea drinker. Not everyone likes all the flavored ones! I kind of overloaded on flavored teas, and then someone gave me a gift pack with more! So now I am really overloaded. I do love a blackberry flavored tea that we get in Amish country (Lancaster Pa). I did just buy a new bag of that when we visited there, which I will not let myself open until I finish some tea that is open. Busy day... things do begin to slow down tomorrow. Good night all (Hi to Meg!) Ginny

Ginny, as they say, birds of a feather. I, too, am overloaded on tea. I gave a whole bunch of flavored teas to my dd but I still have a while bunch of them and as I said yesterday I don't even like most of them so I have a lot of boxes and tins just taking up space and having wasted money on them I'm reluctant to throw them away. When I was at dd's house on Mother's day 11 year old dgs made me a cup of some kind of flavored tea so I need to take more of mine over there. I kept thinking different ones in the store sounded good but once I got them home they no longer sounded as good as they did.As I mentioned yesterday about the only ones I like are the lemon flavor that doesn't have all the extras and Earl Gray. I agree that CJ's black/green sounds good. I'll have to look tomorrow. I don't like plain green tea.Dh bought some peppermint tea... I really dislike that.I used to like Constant Comment but, as someone said... I think Ginny...Our tastes change and I no longer like it. I have some of it too.
Ok going to go crochet now.

Hello everyone, Our temp was 98 today but tomorrow it will be 82 an down in the 70s on Thur. We got groceries today and I was hot and tired when we got home. After we put the groceries away I hsd a nap and . Then I worked on my b/blanket and listened to an audio book. I only have to do few more rows and the border and I will be finished. I haven't decided on my next project.
Phyl, I am glad to see you back and I am glad to see you had a good time. I hope your friends DH will be ok. I hate losing a post. sometimes I copy what I have written so if I lose my post I can paste it back.
Ginny, I enjoy a cup of hot tea with some milk. I don't care for any of the flavored teas. I don't like iced tea and drink hot tea all year round. The tea I buy at the moment is Tetley British blend. But I will drink any of the black teas. So if I come and visit you put the kettle on.
Ruth, I have in the past bought flavored teas and I wind up giving them away. So I wont buy any more.
I am tired so I will say good night.. cj sleep well
