Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - Great minds think alike, since what you suggested is exactly what I was thinking about doing - alternating light and dark sashing fabric. My other thought was to pick a darker brown fabric and sash all the blocks in that. Then I could use the lighter fabric for a border. Hope you are able to get in some embroidery today. Ruth - That's funny about making two right hand gloves, that extra pair you have to make must be meant for someone special Meg and Phyl - Hope you are doing well. I haven't done any crafting, the heat takes away my creativity. I do hope to go back to the quilt shop again in July and quilt a few more quilts. I want to try to do several a month so I can get some of these tops done. Take care everyone!

CJ, I know it's going to be a beautiful quilt. And I know what you mean about crafting in the heat. I'm crocheting and my fingers are sweating so it's not easy. I never knew fingers sweat until I tried crocheting when it was hot. Ginny I'm making a different pair of cable fingerless gloves today and I think they're much nicer. There's a youtube but if you click the "see more" there's a written pattern also I didn't know that last night so was trying to write down the instructions while she was talking. Here's the link www.youtube.com/watch?v=RklACo_HeEc&t=26sI'm going to get back to them now then I'll make some dinner and pull a few weeds if my bladder allows after doing the kitchen work.

CJ, I really think you ought to be able to work something out with - as I will call them- reverse fabrics that can be played off each other. You seem to have a great eye for this and will come up with something lovely, I know! Again, the eye of another crafter, even your sister in law might help too. Think we are all less crafty. When its too hot no one wants to be working with fuzzy yarn or yards of fabric. We are supposed to get cooler weather next week and perhaps you will get some momentum back. Have you gotten to speak to your mechanic yet about your car?
Ruth, will have to check out that YouTube-gotta say that fingerless gloves sound like a cool fall project for me- something good to work on while traveling. (We are heading to my nieces wedding in the fall). Sounds like a good project for then for me. THink I might try those headbands for my DGD this summer once things settle down. (The headband I sent the directions to you on). Anyway, are you happy with these cable fingerless gloves?
I am sitting outside with a lovely fire in the fire pit. It's a little bit warm for a fire, but that is ok....its a relaxing way to spend the evening. I hope I can sneak in a little bit of embroidery- who knows. Next week I figure I will get back to quilting too. Tomorrow is another long day for me, just have lots to get done.
Dh and I pretty much decided to get rid of a car this afternoon. We have a "good car"- and a junker, my mom's old car which has low mileage. The other junker has a lot of "issues" and we know will not pass inspection next year without an expensive repair. So we did the math, we no longer need the other car- our Dd (who used it) got herself a newer and more reliable car. The junker is only worth $500 (according to Kelly blue book) and it has high mileage. Guess it is time.
THink I will check email- have a great night. Meg, stay cool I heard that your heat wave is breaking this weekend. Ginny

Hello everyone, Just a quick podt. I had the injections in my eyes this morning which meant that I did not see very well all afternoon. They are also trying to move my cataract surgery up as the cataract hag got bigger. I would like to get it over with the sooner the better.
I did some crocheting late in the afternoon. This evening I have been talking to my DGD who had been visiting her other GG Mother who is in the hospital. So the day has gone by fast. I think the temp. here was 110 today but I think we will have cooler weather in the near future.
Ruth, How is your bladder problem? I hope you are feeling better.
Ginny, It's a pity that you can't run your bus through the car wash. just being silly. Take care and don't get too tired.
cj, I think we all wilt in the heat. Take care and stay cool.
Phyl, I hope you are staying cool.
Good night.

Ginny, I bet you already know this but if your car that you want to get rid of is not worth all that much that it would pay you to sell it, and if it runs, you could donate it to a women's shelter or someplace like that and have it as a tax deduction as well as helping someone in need. There is also a place online that you can email and they'll buy your car for parts. I don't know how much they give you. I was thinking of doing that with my car if they found yet another expensive thing that needed fixed.I can't remember the site but you could do a search. They will buy cars and come and get them anywhere in the US
They have a lot of really easy fingerless glove patterns but I wanted to learn how to do a cable and I'm glad I did it. I love the gloves..the second pair I made. The first pair is a really wintry pair and the second pair would be warm too but not as "bulky" Seems like a pair would be great for driving that bus. Making a pair would, indeed, be a good project to take with you on a trip because they're small. The headbands for your dgd sounds like a really fun project. There are so many really nice fabrics you could use that she would love. I haven't got to any yet because of working on the gloves and other crochet projects but that actually would have been a better thing to work on in this heat. It's supposed to cool down tomorrow and high Sat will be only 60.
Sitting outside at a fire pit sounds very relaxing and enjoyable. We really don't do much in our yard because we live on a corner and the yard is all open. I would have liked to put up a privacy fence just outside the patio doors in the back to enclose a decent size area to sit in but that never happened and probably never will.
Meg, I thought maybe you were still having computer problems. I hope the eye injections went well and I hope that your surgery will be moved up since you would like for it to just be done and over with. I do hope the temp goes down a little. I know it's a dry heat but it's still hot.. I hope better weather is in store for CJ and Ginny too
Ok see you all tomorrow
Meg, the bladder problem is greatly improved. Now I have only a few "attacks" during the day and sometimes night where before the pain was constant and was even worse at times. Thanks for asking. It mostly flares up now when I'm walking or standing to do things or when emptying the bladder
See you all tomorrow and Ginny, don't work too hard

Good afternoon!
Meg, funny I was going to ask about your eyes, as I had not heard much about them recently. Hope that you do not react to the shots. When are they planning on doing your cataracts now? So glad to hear that your weather is going to calm down. And I enjoyed hearing your about your conversation with DGD. I am sure you were a comfort to her with what she is going through.
Phyl- how was your day of quilt shop hopping? Were you able to resist buying more fabric? You have a good plan going to use up what you have in the house- keeping those strips handy is a good reminder of what you have.
RUth- we usually donate our cars (the junkets) to American Lung association- my Dad and my FIL both had issues- my dad was asthmatic, and my father in law emphysema. Thanks for the suggestion to donate though! Glad to hear that you are improving somewhat. Have you given up on the idea of physical therapy?
Bus is clean....kids are home for the summer.....and I have a few weeks off until September- think its the 5th when we go back. AAll in all it was not a bad day, and I will look forward to sleeping in a bit tomorrow.
Hope CJ is having a good day too. BBL Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - I watched a little bit of that YouTube and those gloves are lovely. I'm glad you've enjoyed learning a cable. Meg - I won't complain about the heat, because yours sounds terrible. I hope it gets cooler soon. I also hope you can get your surgery scheduled soon. Ginny - I'm sure you're excited to have a break from work now, and not having to get up so early. Hope you get to do a lot of crafting this Summer. I did talk to the mechanic a few days ago and have an appointment for next week. I'll see what they say then. If they can fix it and it's not too much money, I'll probably do that. Phyl - Your trip to the quilt shops sounds fun. Also sounds like you got a lot of quilting done too, I'm sure that was enjoyable. I went out to do my grocery shopping today and don't have any plans to do any crafting. I keep my hand quilting laid out where I watch TV, so I might pick it up and quilt a little bit. Take care everyone!

Ginny, I didn't know the American lung assoc took cars. My dh has copd (emphysema), his dad died of it, his mother has it, his stepmother died of lung cancer. My aunt also died of it and another aunt had asthma so it woulld be a good organization to help. I'll have to look into that. Congrats on being on vacation now. I hope you enjoy it all and get to do some really fun things.
Well this time the reply thing took me to the first page so I may not remember all I wanted to say.
Phyl, you have some great ideas for using up fabric. I may have to do some of those changing table mats and some burp cloths. I hope you had a good time at the quilt shop.I don't even look at fabric anymore because I know I'd buy some and I sure don't need any...well except for that flannel I want for the "faux" quilts which are receiving blanket size. I guess the burp clothes should probably be flannel also.Oh and I also need to get more batting. I have a large piece but that's it.They have some at Amazon for a good price but it's an addon item so I'd have to have $25 to be allowed to buy it and don't like Amazon much as I've said before. Dh just bought a nice air mattress. I had looked on Amazon, he looked at Walmart online and found the exact one for a much lower price so maybe I should check there for the batting.
CJ, I'm glad you liked the gloves. The youtube video is long and sometimes confusing but the gloves themselves are nice.
Just got home from shopping. I'm exhausted now and plan to just crochet the rest of the day. I think tomorrow I'll do some sewing.Maybe finish the one faux quilt I have in progress

Hello Ruth, Ginny, cj & Phyl.
I am just having a lazy stay at home day. The temp will reach 107 today but the good news is that by Sunday it will be 95. I haven't suffered in the heat because my home has central air and my car has A/C so we have been quite comfortable. Of course I will hate to see the electric bill when it arrives.
Ginny, I am glad that the bus is cleaned and all the kids have gone home for the summer. I hope you can find a cool spot to sit with your embroidery. and relax. I didn't have a a bad reaction to my injections yesterday. Last time my eyes were irritated for about a week afterwards.
cj, I will see the surgeon who will check my eyes next Fri. I was supposed to have the surgery in Aug but yesterday it was decided that they needed to move it forward. So I am waiting to speak to the scheduler so I don't know exactly when they will do the surgery.
Ruth, when I was knitting the booties recently I knit two different sizes, one foot had a larger size slipper. So I knit 2 more booties one larger than the other. I gave the smaller pr. to a friend in my Knit Wits Gp. She wanted them for her DGD. I am glad you are feeling a little better. Did you try the AZO ?
Phyl, I hate it when my computer misbehaves. I hope you got yours to stop jumping around. Do you live in Iowa? I lived there years ago in Sioux City. I found it very hot there and back in those days we didn't have A/C.
I worked on my b/blanket yesterday then before I went to bed I ripped out what I just did. I will try again this evening. I think I was doing something wrong which I have of doing when I am dong double crochet stitch. I get the ends of the rows wrong. I am determined to get it right.

Meg, I'm glad to hear the eye injections went well. I may have said that yesterday. It's good that you can sit in your nice comfortable air conditioning and crochet, knit, read, or listen to audio books. You've done so much in your life in taking care of those you love it's nice that can rest a lot of the time now esp during the school year when Devin is at school. You said he's a well behaved child but all children do require time, entertainment, and sometimes patience. I remember when you said you made slippers that turned out different sizes. I think I forgot that you just made two more and had two pairs. I'm sure the woman at Knitwits was happy to get them. Same happened to me at Caps for Kids. I made those bonnets that everyone at Caps loved and one day brought one and one of the ladies that I always sat with had just had a new grandaughter and asked if she could have the bonnet. I was happy to give it to her.
I haven't started crocheting. I've just been looking up info online about supplements. People just don't realize how dangerous some of them can be especially if you're taking a prescription med that interacts with that supplement or that the supplement inactivates. People really need to talk to their heath care providers about these things before taking them. And it's easy now to look those things up online now too but I would do that plus talk to my doctor.I see people talking about the ones they take all the time and they think they're ok because the product is "natural". Well hemlock is natural, cyanide is natural, arsenic is natural...ok my concern for the day..oh and also people telling others to take potassium or magnesium. To see if you need these things all you need is a simple blood test. Taking too much on your own can be fatal. If anything just tell them to eat a banana.USUALLY eating foods containing these things is the best way but don't tell someone with kidney failure to eat a lot of bananas. People mean well but they can do themselves and others a lot of harm
Now I don't know how I got onto this subject. I'm gonna go crochet

Good evening!
Today sort of blew up in my face, with little ending the way I figured it would. Life sure can be crazy sometimes...
Meg, it stinks when you have to rip out what you have been working on- But I am sure that the end result will be lovely and the blanket will look great. Stay cool....I bet that 95 will feel good. (Kind of scarey that it will!)
Ruth, we have donated several cars to American Lung- they are very easy to deal with and I highly recommend donating vehicles through them. The cars do not have to be operational- they will tow them away for you and provide a receipt for taxes.
CJ- sounds like a good move to let your mechanic estimate the work your AC needs. Hopefully it will not be too expensive.
Phyl-hope you had a good day.
See you in the am! Ginny

Hello all you wonderful crafters. I've been actually doing a little work. I did a tiny bit of yardwork then had to sit for awhile. Visited with dh then got chicken soup started. I roasted a chicken last night so will use the bones and part of the meat in the soup.Ours turns out to be more like vegetable soup with chicken in it.
Last night I decided to rip out my first pair of fingerless cable gloves that I made. In watching the youtubes I found I wasn't doing the second row that forms the cable correctly. I don't think it matters because I saw another video where the woman was doing her cables in a really weird way but if they turn out to look nice who cares, and her's did look nice. I think as long as you make the while thing the same, you're good.Mine looked pretty good but there were spots where I must not have done the back of the cables the same so out they came. I did finish the pair that I showed you the link for and I love how they look. So while I was lying in my bed last night trying to get to sleep I was thinking up my own pattern using my new found knowledge of how that back row should really be done. I might make another pair or two of these that has the thumb thing but my own design has the thumb opening in the seam.I'm not sure yet. I could make my own with the thumb thingy too. Mine will have one cable down the back of the hand and arm and two rows of ridges parallel to the cable on each side of the cable.
Ginny, I'm sorry your day didn't turn out as you thought it would...unless,of course it was better than you thought it was going to be.
Phyl, it does sound like you had a great day yesterday scouting out quilt stores. I'm sorry to hear the one you really like is closing.
I hope you are all having a good day. Take care all.
