Just having my first cup of coffee then well sort thru more yarn and think about more ways to organize my craft room. One thing I'm going to do is get rid of the very large box of toys that I have in there. No little kids come here anymore so I'll move them out to the garage until I decide what their final destination will be I think that I also have another box with toys down in the small utility closet downstairs so sometime I'll have to check that too and clean everything in there out.If ds ever brings everyone with him I'll just buy a few toys etc for them to use while here and send them back home with them. But they are good at keeping themselves entertained with games and things like jumping rope, etc and they like reading and doing Soduku, and crocheting with gramma I definitely want to finish this glove and at least start the second one today. This glove takes longer than most fingerless due to the cable stitches involved. Some of the really pretty ones take no time at all. The part I don't like is the seam so I try to make the ones that are made in the round but this one is not made that way. Gotta go to the mailbox sometime today to see if my beads came to finish the drawstring n the cupcake purse Ginny, thanks for the comment on Stephanie. Well better get to work I'll see you all later and have a fantastic and blessed day

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today It's so hot here, and we're supposed to have thunderstorms later. It's sad to say, since it's not even officially Summer yet, but I can't wait for Summer to be over. Just hate the heat! I'm still thinking about what I want to do with my car. I'm going to stop by the mechanic that I take my cars to tomorrow and ask him his opionion on whether it is worth trying to fix the AC. I trust this mechanic, they are pretty honest and don't push work on you that your car doesn't need. I figure that since I'm having such a difficult time decided what new car I'd like, if I can get my car fixed that gives me more time to research and think about it. In the past I always knew what type of car I wanted, but there just aren't any that I really love right now. Anything I bought would just be settling. I've also thought maybe I should get a used car and I would only need to keep it a few years and could look for a new car after that. Hope you are all enjoying some crafting. Take care!

CJ, we've pretty much changed completely to buying used. The depreciation has already occurred and any recalls usually have been taken care of and sometimes you can get a really good deal. As for getting your other one fixed, I would say that since you have a reliable, trustworthy mechanic it would be a good idea to find out how much it will cost to have your a/c repaired. It might surprise you. At any rate it's probably going to be less than one car payment would be on a brand new car. I'd try it at least if it were me, esp since you don't have anything in mind that you really want right now.
Well I had to do a lot of math on rows 14-18 on this pattern since I adjusted the size due to using a different yarn but I have it all figured out and done and written down for the next glove and the next pairs that I'll make. Another strange thing she put in the pattern in row 18 it says "hdc in 2 stitch". most people would take that as hdc in the next two stitches but she just means in the second stitch. Many people posted a comment saying there were too many stitches in that row because of it looking like you did the hdc in next two. However in that same row when she really does want you to make stitches in the next two she is specific about it and doing it only in the one stitch you come out with the right number of stitches which luckily she puts the number you should have at the end of the row.. I love when people do that so if they have a different way of stating things you can recognize that if you don't come up with the correct number when you finish the row.

Good evening!
CJ- just an idea, and its one that I have not completely wrapped my head around either but what about leasing a car? THen there is no buyers remorse, and you are rid of the car before maintenance becomes an ordeal. We have never leased- so I know little about it- and I do know that my car has almost 50,000 miles....so its time to start replacing things like brakes, tires etc.... I totally agree with you, this week the weather has been AWFUL. Storms are still coming through here and its supposed to cool down. I hope that your weather is similar. Heard that next week its supposed to be really nice, not too hot or humid. How nice will that be? Oh, and I do agree with you on getting your car repaired to buy some time. How about asking your mechanic for advice on what is a good car to suit your needs?
Ruth, did your beads arrive? Now I interpret that instruction as half double crochet in 2nd stitch. Glad you got some crocheting time in- and got the directions adjusted and straightened out. Lord knows its WORK getting some of these directions figured out and there are many who make lovely projects but are not so good at putting that into an understandable format. I agree its time to get rid of the toys- I know here Big Brothers Big sisters and Red Cross pick up items from your home, including toys.
Gee its hot here! Yes I said that earlier, as did CJ, but it is miserable weather. I did get some work on the pillowcase, which I figure is about 70% done. In the beginning, I was not so sure I liked the colors, but now that the pattern is evolving I really think its pretty.
Hope Phyl and Meg are doing well and having a good day- Ginny

Good evening every one. We are still suffering through the heat. It was 108 today and I had to go to Wal Mart this morning. I wanted to get some lunch meat and all display cases on both sides of that isle were empty. I asked why and was told that they had a power outage last night. So I had to stop at another store on the way home to buy the lunchmeat. I was glad to get home and get out of the heat, I do have A/C in my car and the house was nice and cool when I got home. We have a few more days of this heat.
I did do a little crocheting this afternoon but I was so tired I could hardly keep my eyes open. I will have another try this evening.
Ginny, I thought about you as I passed 2 school buses. I am sure the drivers were hot and tired. I hope the buses have A/C. Do you have A/c in your bus?
cj, I hope you can avoid the thunder storms. I would think that would make it more humid. Good luck deciding about your car.
Ruth, have fun getting rid of the toys. I am sure someone would be happy to have them,
I am so sleepy today. I will go to bed early tonight,
Phyl, my guess is that you are off having fun. take care.

I wrote a message after Ginny posted but it's gone.
Meg, sorry you had to go out in all the heat. Wouldn't you know, just when it's way too hot you end up having to go to two stores
Ginny, I posted earlier about car leasing. I did it once. Would never do it again
I don't know if we have a Big Brother's/Sisters here or not. I'll have to check and maybe end up giving the toys to a place called poverty resistence.
Dh just came upstairs. I'll go see if he's ready to eat

hi, was at sit and sew this am. still working on the strip baby quilt. kinda like a log cabin or round robin type of thing. we did have a lot of fun.
looking for a car sure has it's challenges. the more we look and talk to a rep the more confusing it seems to get.
ruth maybe your dgks would like the toys their parents played with. I know kyle sure liked playing with jeana's toys. courses hers were more boy stuff. have you asked if any of your kids want them for old time sakes. my nephews who are adults have their toys.
not much going on here. phyl

Phyl, these toys are some that I bought when my granchildren that live here in town were at a toy playing age. Now the youngest is 12. I've given him all he's interested in having. I might give them to my dd for her grandboys but they're still infants. I'll see if she wants them. The other grands live in Ind and it's too expensive to ship those although I do still have a bunch of hotweel cars that I'm going to send for the 3 year old.I think the girls would like them too. I actually have some matchbox cars and hotwheels I'm keeping because I like them. I have some toys that no one will want so Im going to probably take them to a place that used to be for homeless mothers and their children. Now they take father's too.
Now that I have all the quirks figured out in this pattern, the second glove is going fast. I can see myself making a lt of these because it's fun and they're useful. And they look like something that you spent a lot of time and work making but they really don't take all that long. There are some that are faster but these look nicer than a lot of the faster ones.
Looks like everyone is really busy today. No posts since mine last night till Phyl came in.
Phyl, I'm glad you had a good time at Sit and Sew.And the things you're making are for charity, right? That's always a good thing to do. I'm going to get some more flannel and make some more blankets which I think may be the same ones you're making.I'm going to see if the "crisis" pregnacy center wants them to give to their clients.
Have a great day all. I'll be back later to see if Ginny, Meg, and CJ stop in.

Phyl, Indeed its a challenge looking for a new car- or a car that is new to you. Everyone has their own personal needs and wants, what works for one might not work for another I do remember Consumer Reports having a really good article on the best used cars to buy- they list by how much you are willing to spend and then provide recommendations based upon that. I have taken their advice before for a car and was happy. Sounds as though sit and sew was fun today. It must be a really nice bunch of people that attend. How many do you usually get in attending there?
Meg, stay cool! The heat makes me tired, perhaps that is what is tiring you so. Hang in there and I hope that the heat breaks soon for you. Glad you found some cold cuts, which are great for meals when it is so hot out. Honestly over 100 like that is not good to be out in at all, even if you are at a pool. Thanks for thinking about me on my school bus. I drive a "big bus"- 65 passengers. Most big buses do not have air conditioning and if they do its retrofitted. My bus has A/C- which is not working well at the moment. But its better than nothing- and my front A/C works better than my rear A/C.. I have asked the mechanic to repair it which he will do this summer. Fortunately, we are in for slightly cooler weather, so my somewhat non functional air will not be an issue.
Ruth, I do understand about losing a post. Happens to me all t he time- Meg too! I know some who lease cars and are very happy with the process. Just though I would suggest it to CJ- it might work for her. Fixing the old car also works too!! Hey, were your beads in the mail?
Hope CJ had a good day.
Got a little bit of embroidery in today....today has been wild in that I am trying to get a lot of stuff done before the end of the school year. Our buses, which each driver maintains for cleanliness, must be left in excellent condition for the summer. I do keep my bus pretty neat, but stil the end of the year clean up is a lot of work. I will finish that process tomorrow, I guess.
Hoping for a sane summer, and some quilting time!!! Have a good night all Ginny

Well Ruth, we were posting at the same time! I forget, are these gloves knit or crocheted? I am wondering if I could give them a try if they are crocheted..

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Thanks to you all for your thoughts about car buying and leasing. I've thought about all of these options - new, used, leased. I think the fact that I'm so undecided about what to do tells me that I need to wait for a little bit. I went by my mechanic's shop today and set up an appointment for next week to get the AC looked at and hopefully fixed. If it can be fixed and the cost isn't too high then it might be worth it to buy me time to look at cars and think about what I want and then maybe purchase something in the Fall. I haven't done any crafting - just a little hand quilting. I also looked at the blocks for my Solstice quilt but I'm going to have a problem with sashing them. Some have light borders, and some have dark borders. None of the fabrics I lay out with these combination of blocks looks good. I might have to sash the dark block with a lighter fabric and the lighter blocks with a darker fabric. I'm going to think about it for a bit since I don't want to put this large quilt together and be unhappy. Hope you all enjoy your crafting. Take care!

Hello everyone,
I seem to be having computer problems today. I m no sure weather it is my computer or pro boards. Anyway I will see if I can finish this post. It id still very hot here and the hot weather will continue a little longer.
I stayed home today and I was very sleepy this morning. Devin spent about 1 1/2 hrs. in the pool this morning and wore himself out. then he had a nap this afternoon. I worked on my b/blanket last night. I will probably do the same tonight.
Ruth, when my DD was a little girl I used to borrow toys from the toy lending library. I don't remember who ran the library but it was for children who were developmentally disabled. I don't know whether it is still around.
I wish you all a great evening.

Ginny, they're crocheted and of course they have youtube videos if you get stuck but they're really easy once you try. I've never attempted knit gloves but I do like knitting cables...altho to be truthful I've only ever done it once. this pattern I've just been looking at is crochet also but a pattern like that in knit would be easy to make. I couldn't make them like the ones I just finished because this pair I made has a little "outie" for the thumb. The one I just looked at is flat and is the same on front and back so you just put the thumb opening in the seam. If you try the gloves I just made you'll be amazed at the way the thumb thingie is done. It's just so much fun learning new things!
Yes luckily for the car manufacturers we do all have different tastes, wants, and needs in vehicles. For some the lease thing works. Especially if you want a new vehicle every 2 or 3 years. What I don't like about leases is that after you've paid for the 2 pr 3 years you don't own the vehicle. If you want to keep it you have to pay the balance of what they say it's worth by cash or taking out a loan. And you're responsible for all the maintence during the lease time and then it has to be in "acceptable" condition when you turn it in for another.
Ginny, it sounds as though you have a bit of bus cleaning to do before the semester ends.I hope they get the bus all fixed up and good as new during hte summer.
CJ, no you definitely want the quilt to be something you love after all your work. I have confidence that you'll be very able to do that. And I do think you're doing the right thing about the car
Meg, I'll have to look into a toy library for disabled children. That would be a great place to donate to. Sorry about your computer. Devin must have been exhausted. I know how much kids hate to take naps. The only child I ever knew that actually wanted to take a nap was my second youngest grandaughter.
Ok, at times I'm sure I'm losing it. I made the second glove and have been looking at patterns since I finished..well while looking I realized I made a second right hand glove instead of making a left hand one. So now I guess what I'll do is make two lefts and have two pairs. Definitely someone can use them.

Good afternoon!
CJ- what about taking the fabrics to a LQS and asking their advice on what kind of fabrics to use for the sashing? Or even how about using the 2 coordinating fabrics the reverse of each other, using one for the lighter blocks and the other for the darker blocks- . I know when i was selecting the fabrics for the quilt that is my avatar, (made that for my DSIL) I hit a mental road block and the sales lady at Joanns was super helpful. I agree with Ruth, you will choose something beautiful once you find it and figure it all out.
Meg, well a nap from Devin is a good thing- Bet the heat and the pool tired him out! Hopefully the weather will break soon- and your computer woes will end too.
Ruth, I understand all too well the downside of leasing a vehicle- but I can also see that as an advantage for certain situations too.(it's also a nice way to try out a new style vehicle for awhile without being stuck with it). It's funny how many different styles of vehicles there are. Hey, I am glad that you find these gloves easy to make- now that you have to make 2 more left handed ones!
Last day of Buster was this am.....now I get a little break and then have to take the kiddies home. Hope to get some embroidery time in later on. Have a great day Ginny
