Hello Crafters - Hope you are all enjoying your weekend Ruth - I'm sorry I didn't get back here to answer your question about the baking show, this week was Bread. I fell asleep on the couch in the middle of the show so I taped it when it came on again and I'll watch it today. I miss working on my quilts, and have the desire inside me to work on them, but just not the energy to actually do it. Maybe talking about it will get me moving QUESTION ABOUT YARN: I have some yarn that is probably 20 years old. It's been stored in plastic storage containers all that time. Is is still good to use? This might be a silly question, but I figure you experts will know. I checked online once about old embroidery floss and I read that the thread gets brittle over the years so it's really not good anymore. It's too bad because my father had a large supply of floss that he used to do counted cross stitch. I haven't thrown it out yet, but I think I would be hesitant to use it in case it disentegrated after I'd finished a project. Hope you are all getting in some crafting. Take care everyone!

Caps and scarves do sound like a very good choice. Everyone needs hats.
CJ, I think it would depend on the kind of yarn. Natural fibers would be more likely to deteriorate over time but synthetics I think, last forever. So if the embroidery floss is cotton it might be a good idea not to use it for a project you want to last.Same with yarn. At Caps for Kids people were always donating yarns that were left when older relatives died or moved. Some we could tell were very old because they didn't have the same labeling as is done now or they had price stickers from stores no longer in business or very, very low prices that told us they were very old. We used them anyway. We never used any that had a lot of wool in it or was entirely wool because we wanted the hats to be washable.Personally I wouldn't have a problem using 20 year old yarn. I actually have some that's over 40 years old. That's the yarn from the kit I was using to make cousin's baby blanket and her baby is now 43 years old. So if you have very old yarn you, personally don't want to use, you might want to find a local group that makes hats or blankets and see if they want it. We knitters and crocheters are always open to getting yarn.Floss too, people use it to crochet those friendship bracelets with so a Boys and Girls club might like it.

Meg, one of my friends here was from Altoona. She would have been much older than your dh I think. She died in 2008 and was 84 at that time so would have been 93 if she was still alive now. When I met her when I first moved here I knew she was from Pa by the accent. She was one of the nicest, kindest people I've ever know but she didn't hesitate to straighten people out kindly but firmly when they did something they shouldn't esp in the care of the patients. She, also was a nurse

Good afternoon everyone.
I just got back from church. It is a beautiful morning and so much cooler. I think our high will be 92.
Ruth, caps are not worn a lot by kids here in the winter because it is not cold enough. I have knit caps for Devin and he just doesn't wear them. He prefers a hood on his coat when it is cold or rains. Now the homeless would be glad of scarves and caps because it is cold at night. Your friend from Altoona was probably a little older than my DH, he would be 84 now.
cj, I have not kept yarn for 20 years so I can't really answer your question. If it was pure wool it probably would not be very good. Most of the other yarn blends might be OK. I would really have to look at to see what it was like. Perhaps you could knit or crochet a sample piece to see what it is like. It was not a silly question. I agree with Ruth's answer. which was very good.

Happy Sunday fellow crafters. Having some Internet issues so I'll be short. CJ my mom kept some yarn for a very long time it was synthetic. I think it keeps OK. Trying to stop back up later on and see how everyone's doing. Ginny

well I got one glove done yesterday and even did the seam but these gloves are so boring. I do need to do the second one though. I started a pair of mittens. One grandaughter wants mittens. I really want to get back to making some more of the cable fingerless that I like but I do need to get requested things done and some of my things to donate. I didn't do a hat today either and I want to get several done each week as I've mentioned before. they are between doing the other things. Mostly what I've done today is look at even more patterns. Two of the dgds want doll slings to carry their dolls around in so have to get to those also. I still need to go again to the mailbox to see if beads came then want to make a change purse for in the cupcake purse. Gotta put in that money that dgd thinks I send her a lot of.
See you all tomorrow. Get a good sleep everyone
