Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - Glad you have a day off. I'm keeping your MIL in my prayers too. Hope you enjoyed the football and crocheting. Ruth - It really has helped me when I've grouped my project supplies together. It makes it so much easier to grab a bag or box and start working on it. Meg - Glad you were able to find some yarn on sale. I also like lots of different colors - I tend to buy variegated yarn most of the time. Phyl and Gail - Hope you are doing well. I did get a lot of my embroidering done yesterday. I probably only have less an hours work left to finish the candy canes, so hopefully I'll get them done this week. Then next Sunday I can either crochet or do some other hand work. Take care everyone!

Happy new week everyone and I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday altho to most of us it's just another day to Ginny a welcome day off.
Speaking of variegated yarn, CJ, when I was waiting at the pharmacy last week I sat down near an adorable 4 year old and she had the nicest home crochet hat on. It used variegated yarn, had a band of post stitch in the middle then a bunch of curly Q's where some people put the pom poms. It was also made like a slouchy hat. She said her grandmother made it for her and it turned out she was there with her other grandmother because her mom was in the hospital having a baby and thje crocheting gramma was with mom. The grandma in the store starting talking to me too and said she wanted to learn to crochet. I might have said this before. But I told her I didn't know anyone that taught it. If she lived near me I would gladly teach her but I know she doesn'tlive near me. I forgot to tell her to watch youtube. You can learn a lot of youtube videos.
So I've been working all day so far and am about to make some chili and while it simmers I'll crochet. I know when I started this shawl I said I would have it done in two days and it's been three weeks now. It's done except for putting on the button and weaving in ends so I shoujld just get to it and finish. Same with hat...it only needs the pom pom dgd wants and then the beard hat only needs weaving in and mustache sewn on the beard. I could finish all today if I would just get to it.

Here is a web site I thought might interest you. I used to post there. People post from different countries.

Hi Ginny, many thanks for starting a new week. I hope you are enjoying your day off work. I like variegated yarns and use them quite often. The pink yarn I mentioned is the Lion Brand pound of love that I ordered on line for $3.99 a skein. So I will be knitting or crocheting a lot with pink. The yarn I bought yesterday will give me a break from all the pink. I have been doing quite a lot of knitting this past week and will get busy when I get off the computer. When I have a good audio book I can knit for a long time. How is your MIL ? I hope all is going well with the tests.
The sun is shining here today but I think we have another storm coming in.
Ruth, The hat pattern I use mostly I knit the brim band a solid color and the crown I use variegated yarn. I have come up with a lot of different color combinations. I haven't knit any caps for quite awhile. I have never crocheted a cap. I am almost finished with my latest b/blanket and then I will have 4 to send down town to the food closet. I want to try something different as I don't want to keep doing the same thing all the time. I have been looking at some new patterns on a web site. I have forgotten the name but I think you mentioned it. I will go back and check my e-mails.
I hope that cj, Phyl and Gail are all well and healthy. I will check back later.

Good evening fellow crafters!
CJ- you continue to amaze me with your organizational skills....I so agree that it's a really good thing to have your next craft (or a craft you are working on) ready to go- set in case you have down time and need something that you can quickly get started on. Were you able to finish the candy canes?
Ruth, same goes for that shawl- it seems like yesterday when you started it! I wonder why that is, think we all get to the point where the end of the project is a only a few short steps away- and we cannot get it done! I enjoyed the story of the girl in the pharmacy.....hat sounds adorable too!!
Meg- was that $3.99 price per skein a sale? (Sounds inexpensive to me!). What color was the yarn you bought yesterday?
Still waiting for testing results on MIL. I stayed home today- but that sort of blew up in my face. Dh went to see his mom- which was a shorter visit than I thought it would be. DD came over with the grandkids and I called my DSIL in Florida to get her up to speed on MIL's status. Needless to say- this was not the relaxing day I had hoped for. Feel like I am getting a cold too....oh well.
Hope to watch a little TV with Dd and see if I have the energy to crochet a bit.
Hope Phyl and Gail are doing fine.... See ya tomorrow! Ginny

My computer seems to be doing it's own thing tonight. I had a nice long post done and it vanished.
Ginny, Lion Brand site still has that yarn for that price. It's the breast cancer awareness color of pink and you get a whole pound for $3.99 You do have to pay for shipping but the shipping on that site isn't bad and if you like the color and want to order a bit that shipping charge of course gets spread over all the skeins you order so it's not bad at all. I wish they had other colors at that price. it's called Pound of Love
Meg, I've made many wash or dishcloths with that pattern. I tried a blanket twice but first time was when I first got back to knitting and I forgot to hold tension so it really looked awful so I took it all out. Then next one I kept forgetting the yarn over.
I do put different colors into my hats. It's amazing how nice some colors look together when you think they aren't colors that would actually go together. I've done them with stripes and also with the brim one color and main part another. I like the look of a narrow strip, main color, wide stripe, main color than another narrow stripe then back to main color to finish.
Oh also Meg, I've posted on that knitting paradise site too. I haven't for awhile now though
Yes I have a whole bunch of other things too that I have all done but the finishing touches. I gotta get on it on that finish it Friday that CJ told us about.
Hello to Gail and Phyl!

Ginny, the skein was the Lion Brand baby one pound skein which is a very big skein. The only color they offered was pink.
Ruth the e-mail which I get is from Pinterest which I think you mentioned. I have been getting their e-mails for some time and most of the time I have been deleting them. I just discovered recently that they have some very nice baby blanket patterns.
This evening I was going to work on my b/blanket and ran out of yarn. The yarn I bought yesterday to finish is the wrong color. I wanted white and I pulled a skein out of a box at the very bottom and the light was not good and when I got home I discovered that it was a very light coffee or cream color. So this evening I have been on UTube looking a videos demonstrating the V stitch which I have wanted to learn. I think I will be able to do it. I need to improve my crocheting skills.
Time to think about going to bed.

Ruth- thanks for the heads up on the yarn. My mom used to put all kinds of interesting combinations of color into hats she made, much like you! Simply amazing how well some colors work with each other.
Meg, that stinks about the wrong yarn color. V stitch is not tough to learn, keep looking thru YouTube until you find a video that explains it in a way that makes sense to you.
Got a cold....feel crummy. Gonna go take a nap.
HI to CJ, Phyl and Gail! Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today
Ginny - sorry to hear about your cold - take care of yourself and hopefully it will be a short one Please do let us know about your MIL.
Meg - thanks for the link to that website, there are some beautiful pictures of items people have made! I've learned a lot on You Tube.
Ruth - Hope you can get to your projects. Do you use the dishclothes that you make? I made one, but I've never used. I have the cotton yarn to make more, but haven't yet.
Phyl and Gail - hope you are getting some crafting done.
I haven't finished the candy canes yet, but still hope to get them done this week. It's easier to do them on a sunny day when I can work in the daylight and we've had rainy and cloudy days for most of this week. It's cold and rainy here today.
I worked on a small quilt top yesterday using the sewing/quilting themed fabrics I've had for years. I made a simple panel type quilt so I could showcase the fabrics and just put some sashing and borders around it. I was happy to get to use the fabric and I have enough left to do a small quilt with some spool blocks that I wanted to do with these. It feels good to start using some of these fabrics I've had for many years
I did get to go out to lunch today with my cousin. We went to Arby's so we could get their Fish Sandwich that comes out this time of year. I got mine without the tartar sauce to save calories and it was very good.
Take care everyone.

CJ, no I never used any of the dishcloths I made. Dh confiscated one that he uses as a washcloth but I sent the rest to ddil. Then when I went to visit I never saw her using any of them. She never explained but when I sent them I told her that it was really a gift from both her mother and me becuase her mother had died and ddil gave me all the yarn and things and I made them from the cotton and sent to her so maybe she put them away as a momento of her mother. I just don't know.
The v stitch is easy, just two double crochets in one stitch.
I got the order from the other dgd and she wants a shawl too. I don't know why the interest in shawls but they're easy to make so I'm happy and ddil said Emily wants in in "purple" and said "if you have it" . Well I had a feeling she would want purple and I have lots of it. I wrote back to ask for sure what style of shawl she wants and if she really wants dark purple or a lavendar or lilac. So now I'm waiting for her answer. I do want to finish the ohter projects today but so far I've only done some baking for dh and not much else.
It's 35 here today but really windy so feels pretty cold but at least we don't have any snow or ice...not right now anyway.

OH the rest of the story about the dish or wash cloths is that when my ds was getting out of the Army a company was trying to recruit him and a man came to his house and brought his wife along. The wife was sitting in the car knitting a dishcloth using that same diagonal pattern as Meg's blanket and that I used. She gave one to my dil and my dil loved it. We went to visit shortly after and dil showed it to me and told me how much she loved it so that's why I made her so many from her mother's yarn.. Son didn't end up working for them. The company was iffy...didn't sound right to me. And he would have had to travel and he's a real family man so he doesn't like to travel if he can help it.

Phyl, I used to teach diabetic ed then my dh became diabetic. Things change a lot and often in diabetic care so when his doctor suggested diab ed for him I agreed and went with him to his classes...one on one with nurse and/or dietician. It had been something like 8 years since I retired. Well there really want' much new. They were still stressing carb control. Lots of new meds though but he doesn't have to take any because he got his A1c down on just following (and I say that with tongue in cheek as they say) diet but yes, they still consider him diabetic even tho A1c level is excellent now.

Hi everyone. It is a sunny day here but I think bad weather is on the way. I had to take my can in this morning as a yellow light was on ... not good. I am waiting for them to call and tell me what is wrong. I can't really complain about my car as it hasn't given me much trouble. I stopped at Michaels to get the right yarn I need to finish my b/blanket.
Ginny, I did watch some videos on UTube last night and I don't think I will have a problem with the V stitch. I think it would be a good stitch to use upleft over yarn if I did different stripes. I have made lots of caps and used up all sorts of yarn. We used to sell the caps for $5 each at the church craft faire and made a lot of money and they were nor expensive to make because often people gave us yarn. I get cold feet often and I hate it when my feet are cold. I would like a pair of sheep skin slippers lined with lambs wool. They are expensive but One of these days I am going to order a pair.
cj, I used to post on that web site and I still get e-mails from them. People from all over the world post there. I love UTube.
Ruth, I have knit a few dish cloths but I never liked using them. There was a man at my church who used to ask me to make them for him. I haven't seen him around for awhile. I don't think his health is good. Something is up with my computer . Stay warm and busy.

Hi Phyl, The diabetic classes are very good I took them ages ago and I should go back and refresh my mind as I am inclined to stray. Good to see you keeping busy. Take care.
