Good morning fellow crafters!
Kicking us off for the week- it was nice to see Ruth and CJ post last night (just got to their posts this am).
Think we all have fears about hiring contractors, be it ever so humble- our homes are our places of retreat and refuge and we surely do not want them messed up on us. Praying for you CJ (hope you do not mind!) that all goes well this week with that roof repair. I will have to check out that scarf later on, for some reason, the resolution of the picture was poor on the IPAD, so I will check it out later on the computer. Ruth, thanks for figuring out the stitch to use....our resident crochet genius.
Hi to Meg and Phyl!
Gotta go get my morning started. G

I read this earlier but forgot to reply.
Although I would love to be a crochet genius, I'm not. I just found in her lengthy paragraph about the scarf where she said it was linen stitch which if I'm not mistaken is the same as your baby blanket pattern, Ginny.
Yes God has granted us yet another week to enjoy. Yes we have trials and tribulations but that's all part of life
I made 2 1/2 pairs of fgs yesterday and have plans to make at least two kinds today although plans sometimes fall by the wayside when we need to do other things. I'm going to make dh some calzones today. I don't think I'll use the two ingredient dough this time though. I'll use regular yeast dough this time. It's also bathroom cleaning day and living room which needs dusting and vacuuming.I also need to make a mailbox run
Have a great day all and I'll see you later

Good afternoon everyone, It is a beautiful day here and I have the doors and windows open. I had the A/C man here this morning to service my A/C so that it is ready to go when we have our first really hot day.
Ruth, I got caught up watching UTube and was watching how to do the celtic wave stitch. I think it would be too difficult for me at this point. But I am sure you could master it. I watched a couple of other tutorials and I saw a couple that I think I could manage. I think you mentioned the linen stitch and I probably could to that one. I know how to knit the moss stitch but I haven't tried crocheting it. I liked that stitch of the week so may check there again.
cj, I hope that they have started on your roof It will be such a relief to get the work done. I hope your contractor does a good job.
Hi Ginny, We need to pray a lot when hiring contractors. I did have a bad experience with a contractor I hired a few years ago but I learned a lot from that experience and have done quite well since then. I have been knitting a lot and I have been listening to another of the Poldark series. I am on the waiting list for the next book. I hope you are finding time to get a lot of quilting done. I am sure you are counting the weeks to the end of the school year when you get a break. I am not taking Devin to school anymore. DS takes him in the a.m. and he goes to the after school program in the afternoon and his mom picks him up on her way home from work. she is getting off work earlier now so now I have my whole day free to go where I want.
Have a wonderful day.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - Thanks for your prayers for me, I do appreciate them. Hope work went well today. Ruth - I prefer to believe that you can look at any crochet project and identify the stitches Hope your calzones turned out. Meg - I'm glad your AC has been serviced and is ready to go. I hope you are enjoying the Poldark books. I guess the 3rd season of the TV show should be coming on again soon. That's nice that you have your day free now. Phyl - Hope you are getting in some crafting. The shingles were delivered today, so I was glad. Now I'm waiting to hear from the roofers. I'm hoping they don't just show up some morning and that they'll call first. I woke up early this morning (around 6:00 A.M.) since I was worrying about the shingles. I guess I'll be getting up early each morning just in case the roofers come, unless they call me. I'm a believer that a woman should be able to do anything she wants to, but I really believe things like the roof and house issues are what men are for. It just seems easier for men to deal with most of those things and I'm grateful I had my father around for so many years to take care of that stuff. It's something I will never enjoy doing. The weather is nice here today, sunny and in the 70s. I lucked out with no rain this weekend so I didn't have to deal with the ceiling leaking, I'm really thankful for that. I didn't work on any quilting today, just a little too stressed out to concentrate on it. I am reading a book on quilting though Take care everyone!

Good evening! Gonna work backwards here .....
CJ- do not blame you for being stressed out. You have been through a lot, but we all hope it will come to a happy ending soon! I cannot imagine that they will let your shingles stay there for long without installing them. My guess would be that your roof is repaired within the next 7 days. So thankful and happy for you. Do not think anyone enjoys house stuff. We had an issue with sewer back flow into our house and, I ended making a suggestion to the village that seems to have worked! (Please Lord, i do not need sewer issues again). Its just intimidating and some contractors do like to intimidate as a means of avoiding tough questions or their own inadequcies. Yes, you did craft today.....that book you are reading sure does count!
Meg, so glad your AC is all ready to roll for the cooling season. You rely on that heavily- as your summers get super hot. Glad you are enjoying that Poldark book- I will have to add them to my list of reading for when school is done. I have been reading the same short book for 2 months, I just renewed it for the last time- so I have to finish it. At the halfway point, it is finally picking up and becoming more interesting. I am so very happy for you that Devin is now being transported by others to and from school!! We know what a great kid he is and how very much you love him- but that is a lot of work and does take away time that you have to do what you want. That is awesome for you!!
Ok Ruth, I still consider you my crochet genius. Hope you got the fgs done that you wanted to today. I agree, while I love the 2 ingredient dough, for a calzone, I think that a traditional dough would work better. Sure Dh loved that calzone.
My friend tried on the fg- and I just need to add 4 more rows to the cuff and the first one iis complete. Then I can move on to the second glove.
Funny, with all this talk about contractors - well we had one here today. We have used him before and he is our neighbor. Both Dh and I feel pretty good about him, our kids grew up together. Have a wonderful evening Ginny

Phyl, well the surgery is coming up fast. I keep hearing everyone talk about yearly physicals and wonder just what they are supposed to entail because, as I mentioned after I saw my doctor last time, it was supposed to be the yearly visit but the exam wasn't even as good as the one she does when you go in there for somehting else. I know you're glad to have the playpen organized and cleaned up. I worked on my craft cave yesterday.
Well I love being thought of as a genious.
As for the calzones, they didn't happen after all. Dh decided to work in the yard so I joined him and we both did things outdoors which was actually great because it was such a nice day and while out there I actually planned for some things I want to do out there. Also had a man stop and ask if I wanted to sell my truck that I don't use. He will come back another time to discuss it with me as I didn't know much about it and dh had gone into the house and I knew he wouldn't want to talk to the man right then.
The only glove I got done before going outside was the second one for the pair I started last night but this evening I should be able to make at least one more pair.
CJ, I'm so glad you got the shingles today. I prayed earlier that they would arrive because I know how very disappointed and frustrated you would have been if they hadn't.
Meg, I'm glad you got the A/C all ready to go and that you won't have to go out to drive Devin to and from school. As Ginny said, we all know what a great boy he is and how much you care for him but it will be nice to have free time. I've never heard of the Celtic weave stitch but I did look at youtube before going outdoors. It was a tunisian type crochet thing. I don't know that I'd actually do it but it does look fun and interesting.
Ginny, I'm glad the gloves for your friend are working. It's nice to get to where things are almost completed. And it's very nice to personally know a contractor. Unfortunately I don't know anyone that has a skill that's something I need...such as an auto mechanic...sure could use one of those as well as one for house repairs or remodeling.

Just a short hello- hope to stop back later on.
Phyl- sounds like your doctor is taking really good care of you.....glad that you are getting all set for the procedure. Guess its inappropriate to ask if you are excited about it- but I am sure the prospect of feeling a lot better and in no pain is a nice thing. Glad you got that playpen strightened up. Simply amazing how messy our craft areas cen get!
Ruth, I am doing just fine. My oral surgeon is wonderful- and prides himself on getting things done right. (He will drive you. Nuts with it too- but its in a good way). The extraction went well- he gave me antibiotic but no pain killer. At the moment the advil I took before (only one) has worn off. I am ever ever so slightly sore.....but really feel pretty good. Thanks for asking and caring. Do you think Dh will want to sell the truck? Glad you were able to get some outdoor work done- even if it kept you from your crafting. Were you able to plant the silver dollar seeds?? Looks like its gonna be another banner year here for them....if yours do not produce I will send you some dried silver dollars when the fall comes. Dd came over- had a nice afternoon walking to the park with her DGD#2 and DGS. (Felt pretty good after the extraction!). Hope to crochet some tonight G

Ginny, I'm glad it all went well and you're not in much pain. It sounds like your oral surgeon is like the dentist that extracted the last tooth I had to have extracted. He wasn't an oral surgeon but he did a great job. He gave me a prescription for pain meds but I didn't even need them. It also had to have been very enjoyable walking with your daughter and her children. Yes I did get the silver dollars planted so hopefully they will grow. I have to watch and make sure that dh doesn't did there but I doubt he will be digging anyway. He's in quite a bit of pain today after the work he did yesterday. I also planted marigold seeds in front and somewhat under my lilac bush. Yes I think dh is finally willing to sell the truck. WE'll see if anyone really wants it.It doesn't run so the person would have to have it towed and would have to put a bit of work in it and it's old. I'm selling it really cheap though so it would actually be a good vehicle for someone that knows how to work on autos. Many people here have very old vehicles. We don't have vehicle registration here so that works. and many people use old vehicles as ranch trucks. When I posted last evening I didn't realize how late it was so I didn't accomplish much craftwise. I went to hte pattern site of the fg I was intending to make and saw one that I liked better so started on those. The pattern was in Swedish with an English translation and some of it didn't translate well. For instance for some of the pattern it says dc 4 together in the next stitch. Well only dc'ing together I've done was to decrease. So I looked back at the picture and realized she was talking about doing a 4dc puff stitch. Also was talking about stitching in "2ch" and meant in the 2 chain space. Anyway once I figured it out I started it but ended up somehow getting extra stitches in there so when I made the second one this morning it was smaller... It went very well though and fast so I'll rip out the one I did last night and make another to go with this morning's effort. So you see I'm not the genius you guys nicely say I am The other thing with this pattern is...lately I've seen a lot of patterns that tell you to crochet in the third loop of a hdc. I've never done that. This pattern has that too and it really comes out nice. This one is crocheted in the round so that third loop is in the back. The other patterns I've seen that in were all flat patterns so the third loop is in the front. Anyway it makes a really nice looking ridge. So already I'm thinking of other ways to use that and those puffs to make other gloves and even scarves, hats and blankets maybe with all ridges, or all puffs or ridges for the whole glove but the puffs only at the top instead of top and bottom like on this one and make a ribbed cuff where the puffs at the wrist are. Endless possibilities This one has two sections of the ridges only near the bottom of the glove and sc until you get to the top where there is the second set of puffs so there's a very wide section of only sc's. I'm thinking make a series of ridges two more times where the sc's are. I think a glove with ridge sections all the way up with no puffs at all would be great for men's gloves. Ok back to crocheting.. I think I'm going to skip yardwork for today...maybe

Hello Crafters phyl - I hope your blood work goes well so you can get your surgery. It's always nice to get our crafting rooms cleaned Ginny - I'm glad everything went well at the dentist and I hope you don't have much pain and heal up well. Ruth - I'm glad you were able to get some yardwork done yesterday and some crocheting done today. Good luck with the truck sale Meg - Hope you are getting some crafting in. It's a beautiful day here today, sunny and in the 70s. No roofers today, but I'm hoping to see them one day this week. I hope they will call the day before but just in case I've been getting up early every morning to be ready for them. I realize now how quickly after I retired I adjusted to sleeping later I haven't done any quilting today but did finish reading a good book. It's always such a pleasure to read something that touches me and makes me think and feel. I'm thankful I've been able to read so many good books in my life. Take care everyone!

Good afternoon everyone,
I slept late this morning. I seem to get a surge o f energy when it is time to go to bed and then I sleep later in the morning. So I did some knitting until I got sleepy. It is quite warm today probably in the 80s. I haven't checked the weather for today
cj, I hope the roofing is underway, let us know how it goes. I am now listening to the 5th book of the Poldark series. I discovered I could watch the 2nd season of the TV series on the Amazon website so I watched that yesterday. I like to read the book before I watch it. I have been watching it on my computer. I love this story. When do you think the 3rd season will be on PBS?
Ginny, I am glad the trip to the dentist went well. There has been a lot of improvement in how they do all types of surgery and there is little to no pain.
Phyl, I hope your blood tests go well and they don't have to postpone your surgery. That happened to me before my bladder surgery. I think my blood count was too low.
Ruth, I checked to see if I could find the directions for the Celtic Wave pattern and couldn't find it today. I will check again later . It was very complicated. I was watching the weekly pattern stitch I think on UTube. I think I am going to have to knit a fingerless glove for myself' When I am driving my right hand is exposed to the sun I do use sun screen but I notice I have a rough patch of skin on the back of my hand. I haven't done much today but I need to go to the store to get a few items. Good idea for you and DH to relax today after all your gardening yesterday.
I wish you all a good evening.

Good evening!!
Meg, I did a little snooping, looks like you might get to see the 3rd season of Poldark in June.
CJ- so glad you were able to immerse yourself in a good book! Great stress relief while you wait for the roofers. (Who I hope come very soon).
Hey Ruth? Still genius in my book cause you were able to figure out what was wrong with what you did! If it was me I would abandon the pattern and never figure it out at all.
Still feeling pretty good- will take one advil for the night- but I really do not need it. G

CJ and Meg, so glad to see you.
Meg, so sorry you didn't get a good rest last night but at least you were able to sleep in. It was in 80's here yesterday while we were out in the yard. Dh got a little sunburn but I'm just as pale as ever.
CJ, Well the shingles are often brought to the house a few days before the actual roofing starts so don't stress yourself worrying about when they will be there. I'm glad you were able to lose yourself in a good book
Ginny, Yes I think you should take the advil before going to sleep because sometimes those things do start to hurt in the night. And thank you for the compliment. I was thinking of giving up but I really wanted to make those gloves and Im stubborn so I had to try.
I looked up my truck on Kelly Blue book and it actually says that even though my truck is old it's still worth $2-3,000. Im shocked because my car is much newer and is worth about $1000 maybe if that. I did look it up about a year ago and it sure wasn't worth much. It's old too...2000 but the truck is a 94.I'm sure mine is on the lower part of the range..probably the lowest but I was thinking of selling it for about$250.Actually the stereo in it is probably worth $250. Its a good one. We've never really used it but it was in the truck when we bought it and was obviously an aftermarket addition because it's not one that would come with a vehicle. It's top of the line.

evening, I am all set for surgery. the blood work on april 24 was ok.I think what my primary doctor is doing is finishing the blood work. there are other things he has done that was not on the last blood work. like fasting for chosterol etc. the blood work for the surgery ws not a fasting. think they wanted to make sure my a1c was lower then 8. it was 6.9. a a1c of 8 dr.lawrence will not do the surgery on any d
today was our sit and sew day. I worked on a very small snowman wall hanging..also a fabric book that will go with it. some little kid will love it.I will wait till christmas season to give it to the gals who take our charity stuff to the places.then I did another snowman fabric book.
I went to all those sites that were posted.alot of pretty things. I had also watched the charm quilt. last night I WAS thinking how cute it might be if someone made a quilt out of the western bandanas. last summer theer was quilter making her dd a table cloth out of the bandans. she got the big squares at walmart for 1.OO each.phyl
