I dont't participate much at meetings anyway, but I've never said anything to anyone about maintaining my free lifetime membership but not following WW since the start of smartpoints. I don't even like to talk much about maintaining at meetings for fear I'll be asked about the program. I think I also once gave "tracking" as an answer to my success because it's true even though it was on MFP for a couple of years and now is on iTb. I sit in my once a month weigh-in meeting now and wonder how many of the other people there are also using some other program.

Iāve never understood why successful members should have to feel that they need to walk on egg shells when it comes to which WW plan they followāespecially lifers. Each and every time a new plan has been introduced, WW via leaders had made a point of telling members (both lifers and those not yet at goal) that they may continue to follow whatever plan they desire.
And yet I know there are leaders who have derided people for not āgetting with the programā or quickly terminated their participating by not letting them finish what they were saying.
Go figure.

I know many long-term members who kept quiet in meetings about following a previous plan. When Iāve asked them why, the answers have been pretty consistent amongst them
They have been shot down in meetings by either the leader or fellow members, sometimes just by a ātskā or eye roll when they spoke about it.
Or
They feel silly/judged when the latest plan is ALWAYS touted as āthe best plan WW has introduced, the most successful plan ever, the most innovative based on the latest research etc.

I remember a few years ago my leader commented that she didn't track any more. She was doing fine and maintaining and didn't think she needed to track. I found that refreshing. When I was going to WW and was losing weight/free lifetime I did comment from time to time that I dual tracked calories and WW points and no one blinked an eye. Of course there came a time where it was tracking at MFP and rarely tracking at WW but I didn't mention that...

fullmahina, Another generic comment that is safe to say is that coming to meetings are what help you.

Two main reasons I don't talk about not following WW at a WW meeting:
1. I don't think it's fair to the leader and to WW to disparage the program in front of members in a WW forum. I've said it in private to some people I know who are members but I don't attend meetings with them.
2. I don't pay for WW membership or etools because I'm free Lifetime, and I'm always worried that WW will at some point say why are we letting her in for free and using our resources for free when she's not even supporting or using the program.

I don't talk about it either. I make generic comments. I mention I track and I come to meetings.

I'm curious, what exactly do you get out of the meetings if you're not following the plan? The obvious answer I'd think would be support... but really, what support is so beneficial to you that you're attending a meeting about a plan you don't follow? ("You" as a general term) No digs here, I'm really curious. I stayed on the exchange plan for years after ww changed to points, it never occurred to me to attend meetings during that time, I didn't feel I belonged there.

I'm curious, what exactly do you get out of the meetings if you're not following the plan? Speaking only for myself, I get a feeling of "I am not the only one who is struggling, not the only one who has been dealing with this for years." I also get to see and hear REAL people (not photoshopped and highly edited "Success Stories") who have made real progress and to whom I can relate. I also need meetings right now for weigh-in accountability. That Thursday morning meeting makes me think twice about making bad choices. Not always, but often enough to make a difference. it never occurred to me to attend meetings during that time, I didn't feel I belonged there. I belong anywhere I want to be, lol. Sounds silly but if I get some benefit out of doing something, I'm going to do it regardless of what anyone else's opinion may be. I realize that others may take issue with what I am doing but that's just too bad. I won't wave it in anyone's face. Final note---it really is up to each and every one of us to find a path that works for us. Whether it is the present WW plan or any of its predecessors, something completely different, or a combination of plans, it's a personal choice. If that choice involves going to a meeting that one finds supportive and it helps that person I am all for it. This is a tough and rocky road for many and we need all the help we can get.

They do not focus on the plan. They focus on behaviors, attitude, techniques, movement...things which apply to any plan. The support is great, as is the accountability.

There are (and have been) many, many times where the having to get on that scale is the ONLY thing that kept me in line.

My feelings pretty much echo what fullmahina said. However, I donāt actually attend a WW meeting currently. Not because I made a decision not to, but because Mindy saved a few dollars by closing our Monday meeting. Over the years I left and came back to WW several times. When I came back in 2008 I promised myself that Iād go to my meeting every week no matter what. And I found a group of members who had made the same promise to themselves. There are ten of us. When our meeting was closed, initially we sought out another Monday meeting and gave it a month to prove itself; it turned out to be a pep rally lead by a cheerleader and was just ridiculous and a waste of time. Within our group of 10, two decided they needed to attend a meeting and switched to Wednesdays at our original center where the meeting is led by our original leader. Eight of us decided that we needed each otherānot a meetingāfor support. With the blessing of the receptionist/guide, we decided to hold our own get-together at the WW center/studio every Monday (they kept the open hours of 9 AM to Noon). And it works for us. We can weigh in if we choose, catch up with each other, and get whatever support we think we need through information discussion. And the āguideā is always available to answer questions or give advice. If I WERE able to use Freestyle successfully and felt I didnāt need the accountability of a groupāformal or informalāthen Iād just be doing WW online.

fullmahina, vicki, and Jennifer, stated the reasons that I too attend meetings though I'm not following the plan. zazzles, It's great that the WW center is letting your group use the center for your own meeting. I'm curious about whether you and your group talk about Freestyle or other plans that you may or may not follow, and if you do, is the receptionist aware of the discussion?

fullmahina , vicki , and Jennifer , stated the reasons that I too attend meetings though I'm not following the plan. zazzles , It's great that the WW center is letting your group use the center for your own meeting. I'm curious about whether you and your group talk about Freestyle or other plans that you may or may not follow, and if you do, is the receptionist aware of the discussion? I think of the eight of us there is one very longtime Lifetime member who is doing Freestyle. She switched to tracking calories with LoseIt (along with several others) sometime after the introduction of PointsPlus. She is actually losing for the first time in a long time and tracking with the WW Mobile app. Another of the group, a close friend, gave Freestyle a try again for about a month or so recently and just couldnāt hack it. We seldom talk about any WW plan; sometimes we talk about calories; and sometimes we talk about concepts that WW has covered over and over for years. The receptionist is happy to have us there, and she told the the area manager/director about our use of the room at the outset and that person has no problem with it. If WW had any smarts theyād outfit the āstudiosā with some cafĆ©-style seating and invite members to drop in anytime to meet people and have informal chats. Anything that would engage members to return to the āstudioā to gain exposure to products would be a good thing. As a group of eight they actually make more $$$ from us off of proiducts than they ever did when it was a meeting. Perhaps because without a leader there is no schedule and no ābeing rushed out the doorā after the meeting ends. We arrive about 9 and leave around 10:30 and can shop at leisure on our way out. Works for us. Works for WW.
