Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - I like your avatar too and that applies to me with quilting patterns - I have more than I'll ever be able to make. Hope you enjoy working with the thin crochet thread. I've done a few things in that thread, but it's not my favorite. The results are so pretty though! Meg - I'm sorry you couldn't get your iron infusion. Hope you had a good time at KnitWits today. Ginny - I've been in stores where everyone is nice, and helpful, and talking about their selections. It's one of the pleasures of crafting. Hope you finish getting your floss ready. Phyl - Hope you were able to get those shelves done. I was in an quilting mood today and I made one more diamond on the Lone Star Quilt (that's 5 of 8 done) and early this morning I finished the 2nd of 9 blocks on the NQC quilt. I hadn't really paid attention to the name of the NQC quilt - it's called Snowy Day Quilt. I found it funny when I realized this because my colors - pink, white and floral yellow are all Sprintime colors I'm hoping to get the other 3 Lone Star diamonds done this weekend, so I can put them together next week. I don't want that project to sit too long or I'll forget all that I learned in the class. Take care everyone!

CJ, I'm sorry that I didn't keep working on quilting right after I took the series of classes. You;re so smart to work on that Lone Star right away and cement it in your mind. I too have had many conversations with people while buying fabric even though it wasn't for quilting. It does sound like you got a lot of quilting done today.
I'm so amazed. I can't believe how easy it was to work with that thread and that tiny hook. It went really fast and the end result is really, really pretty and it's so cute. It's the exact size for a tea candle and has petals all around the top of the candle. I'm going to make probably just two more for her right now. Maybe I'll make some more in the future. When I showed it to dh he said, "you're not really going to light that are you?"( I had a real tea candle in it just to see if it was the correct size) I'd already told him I ordered flameless candles but I guess he forgot. So then he said that I shoujld include a warning not to use real candles when I give these to anyone. Of course I will but I do think most people would be smart enough not to however the woman that designed the pattern and put it online had real candles in hers and then someone mentioned using hairspray to stiffen this.....really bad combo...however it doesn't need stiffening. It really holds it's shape. The little petals stand just as they should. The hardest thing was trying to find a tea candle in the house to check size. I know we have a lot of them but I sure don't know where.Even though dh denies it I think they're in the room where he has his computer, tv and his collectibles

Good evening! CJ what a smart move working on the quilt while you still remember the techniques! I agree it's pretty funny that it's supposed to be a winter quilt and you are using spring colors! I think we all have our favorite color scheme, would spring colors be yours?
Ruth , yes indeed you would think that intelligent folks would figure out that using a flamelless candle would be necessary but then we live in a world in which a fast food coffee cup has to remind the consumer that it's hot! I have never worked with that superfine crochet cotton. It does not surprise me that you mastered it quickly!
I am happy to say that all the creatures are home for the weekend and I do not have to see them. Right now I am finishing getting that DMC set up for my embroidery project.
Have a good evening Ginny

Phyl, I love all the books that have a knitting, crocheting or quilting setting I especially like the books by Betty Hechtman. There are a lot more knitting ones than crochet and she writes both but the crochet one takes place in a bookstore that has a needlework "corner" and the group is crochet.
Just got done with some of Ginny's crafting. She said it all counts, right? Well today I went thru my storage box of patterns and got rid of all but those that are really special to me. With so many being online there's no need to have hard copies taking up space. So I set aside several books to donate and lots of paper to throw away. If it wasn't so windy I'd use it to start a fire in my woodstove but it's too windy for that plus it's warm today anyway...50. It's to stay warm all week with the exception of Monday when the high will only be 34 but rest of the week all upper 40's and 50
I started my second tea light holder last evening but got sidetracked so I want to finish them both today. It shouldn't be hard. They each take only about a half hour...maybe less without stopping for potty breaks and more coffee and tea.
I ordered the tealights from amazon and ordered the least expensive they showed. Well when they sent me the email conf of my order they also then showed other ones available and there were some much cheaper so I ordered more. They'll make great gifts in the little holders so I won't have too many esp since I plan on gifting several to each person.
Yes when I saw that avatar I knew that was me.
I hope you're all having a great weekend and enjoying your time.

GOod afternoon!
Phyl, yes I do enjoy reading crafting/quilting books...I had at one point worked my way through the Jennifer Scheverini (sp) quilting series. With the exception of the one book in that series where she put forth her own political views, I found the series charming and relaxing. I read to relax, not listen to the authors political views. I have heard of Wanda Brunsettter and will have to check her out.
Ruth- glad you found the tea lights- even from two sources. What wonderful gifts- and fun for you to make too!! Yes, by my convoluted rules, you got some crafting time in. I do believe it's important to keep crafting supplies straightened out- otherwise there is a tendency to over buy.......which of course I speak from personal experience. That avatar is absolutely me too.
Dd tells me that those friendship bracelets are easy to make. Will pick out my colors and get busy working on the friendship bracelets.
Happy crafting! Ginny

Ginny, I love your so called convoluted rules. They all make sense to me. I just went in and got the box my crocheting thread is in and marked the weight in sharpie on each one so that I could see it better. One has no size but it looks like it's a 3 or 5. Probably doesn't make much difference. The ones where the label is off I wrote on the label that was on it the size and stuck it inside the spool and also reached my sharpie inside so that I could write the size on the inside of the spool. YOu would think I'd be able to tell by feel but there's not much difference between a 3 and 5. Now a 20 well that must be like crocheting with sewing thread. I don't have any but it's got to be really thin Ginny, are the friendship bracelets crocheted. Of course as soon as I saw what you wrote I had to go look up a pattern then I clicked the link and, of course, then had to look at all the free patterns on that site. The book pen holder is on there...the one I'm going to make for my ddil for on her Bible and I also saw a nice Bible cover which one of the dgd's wants. So now I'm going to go look at some more friendship bracelet patterns because I know my dgc would love to have some to give to their friends as well as wear themselves. Thank you for mentioning them!!

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today and enjoying your weekend I finished two more diamonds of the Lone Star quilt and really wish I'd felt like finishing the last one, but hopefully I'll do that tomorrow. I'm reaching the point in this project where I'm not enjoying it that much. There's just too much repetition having to fuse and sew 36 pieces of fabric on each diamond. I'll be glad to get all 8 of them done and then put them together into the quilt top. I do like the aqua and white fabrics in this quilt, so hopefully I'll enjoy the quilt when it's done. Ginny - Hope you enjoy making your braclets. I was wondering what you were making with the embroidery floss. I love pinks, purples, aquas, so those would be perfect Spring colors to me. I stretched myself picking the muted yellow fabric (with pink and green floral) to use in the NQC quilt. Years ago I took a Hand Piecing quilt class and hand pieced a 6 block sampler quilt - the quilt is all in pinks, aquas, purples and white. I've started hand quilting it but haven't touched it in a few years. I'd love to finish that someday, because it would be a completely hand done quilt. Ruth - Did you already, or could you, post a link to the pattern (or a picture) for the crocheted tea light holders? I'd love to see what they look like. I think you are smart to put a little note with them not to use a real candle. Some people just don't think about the danger. Phyl - Thanks for the book recommendations. I read a 3 book series by Christina Skye a few years ago, where all the female leads in the books were knitters. Those were good books. Meg - Hope you are doing well today. Take care everyone!

CJ, here is the link to the ones I'm making. I downloaded three but the first wasn't as nice and the third is made from worsted weight yarn so I'm not sure what the size would be for that one although it does say tea candles. They're much smaller that you would think by looking at the pictures lacycrochet.blogspot.com/2012/10/crochet-votive-candle-holders-free.htmlShe calls them votive candle holders but someone corrected her and she said she's from another country and doesn't have the language completely within her grasp yet.

CJ- don't you hate it when a project that you once loved to work on becomes tedious! And I am sure you will love the quilt when it's done- becasue you love the fabrics. It's just getting it all done right now that is bugging you. Are you good with deadlines? Can you make an artificial deadline for yourself so that you finish this and can move on to another, more fun craft?
Ruth, yes the DMC friendship bracelets are hand woven or tied for the lack of a better word. And the pre adolescent girls do love them. Yes, I also know you can do book marks and headbands.....I am just trying to use up some DMC and make 2 gifts!
Got it all ready to finish the kitchen towel holder which I will do this evening. Then tomorrow I will figure out how to make the bracelets....tomorrow though, when I am more awake. Got stuck today working on the closure of my mom's estate- which I should have done very soon. SO thankful for that! Hi to Meg and Phyl Ginny

I kept trying and trying this morning and couldn't post.
Hello everyone,
Ruth, I gave up on the chevron b/blanket, I was having trouble seeing the chains properly. I have macular degeneration and I also have a cataract growing my let eye and I will probably have to have surgery in the near future. They will tell me more when I have my next eye appt.
Yesterday at Knit Wits I was discussing Lion Brand Pound of Love with another lady. She showed me a new color she is using in the pound of Love it is a deep red like cherry it was really nice. She said it is hard to find at the moment. I looked on the LB web site and they don't list it. I suppose it will take awhile for them to get it in the stores.
Instead of doing the chevron stitch I am going to knit a stitch which is similar. It is The Cromwell Court afghan, it is a ripple stitch which I have used before. It is a Lion Brand pattern.
Thank you for the info re the infusion. It makes sense to add heat. When I check my BS in the morning I make a cup of hot tea and warm my hands on the hot cup so that I can get a drop of blood easily.
I like your avatar, looks just like me at the moment. I am waiting to see if DD turns up for an afternoon visit.
I will check back later. Have a good afternoon.
This is the post I wanted to send this morning and I was able to save it.
