finreporter, I think it was just the extra grossness factor of dealing with floor dirt along with the usual stuff. Why add that to the mix? BTW, I just went on a disinfecting binge around the house. It is crazy how many often-touched surfaces there are. I kept coming up with new ones. I started to feel like that Ray Bradbury character that kept polishing the fruit at the bottom of the bowl to remove his fingerprints and couldn't get away from the crime scene - he had to keep wiping!

My boss just had a talk with our team to address the possibility of an office shutdown if it progresses more in our direction. His only request was bring your laptop home nightly in case they do shut it down unexpectedly. Then at least we don’t have to drive here to get it.

THIS is why COVID-19 is more of a concern than the common flu. It is something called the R0 factor (R-Naught) and that number represents the number of people who would likely be infected by one person. The lower the number, the better the likelihood of a quicker die-out of the disease. COVID-19, although there are various estimates of its R0 number, looks like it is pretty impressive. www.sci-news.com/medicine/covid-19-reproduction-number-08132.html

My granddaughter's high school has closed. New Jersey has joined New York in declaring a state of emergency. The head of the New York/New Jersey Port Authority has it as does his wife. He's been all over airports and terminals the past few weeks.
Anyone who is over sixty and/or has health issues and is doing "business as usual" is, IMHO, tempting fate unnecessarily. The warnings are out there---heed them. This is not "just the flu" nor a "hoax" being perpetrated for political reasons. Ignore the warnings at your own peril.
DH is the one who needs to be slapped down. There simply is no reason to go to the post office everyday for a handful of junk mail. He just downloaded the library app so he is going to drop off the books he has now in the outside book drop and forego his library visits too. My sister-in-law has declared that she is going to get on a plane to visit her kids on Long Island (she lives in PA) no matter what. She is in her 70's and has chronic lung issues and has been hospitalized numerous times for pneumonia. She thinks a little blue surgical mask will protect her. I give up.

Los Angeles County now has their first community spread case.
I’m laying low but hubby is still going to the gym and to movies and hasn’t changed his lifestyle, so since we live together I’m not sure that we can totally sanitize our home. I had to go to the post office yesterday to mail tax documents and ended up waiting in a line....it’s hard to stay 6 feet away from someone in a line. In fact, it’s pretty hard to isolate oneself
(My sister, who didn’t want to weigh in at WW because she had a gain, determined that WW meetings need to be avoided. That’s one way to justify getting out of a weigh-in!)

I had to go to the post office yesterday to mail tax documents and ended up waiting in a line....it’s hard to stay 6 feet away from someone in a line. In fact, it’s pretty hard to isolate oneself totally. All we can do is the best we can. (My sister, who didn’t want to weigh in at WW because she had a gain, determined that WW meetings need to be avoided. That’s one way to justify getting out of a weigh-in!) I switched to WW Online. There are certain "have to's" in life but attending WW meetings is not one of them. People make their choices and take their chances as they see fit. I just had a friend in her 70's who has health issues and whose husband also has health issues declare that she has "wipes and hand sanitizer" so they will continue life as usual. She asked me if I thought that was okay. I said no and she was not hearing it. All I could do was text "TTYL." I love her and her husband but not my monkeys, not my circus, I wish you well, enjoy your day.

fullmahina, I agree. The CDC is asking older people to not take chances and I'd defer to their wisdom. I'm doing grocery delivery or pick up since I have asthma and had had serious pneumonia in the past. I'm not "worried" but I'm being cautious, know what I mean? I think there are 2 vastly different groups: people that are freaking out and people who think "it's nothing to worry about", and very few in between. Son works with kids, and he's usually helping clean up so he knows to wash his hands often, even so I told him to give a quick hand sanitizer wipe as soon as he leaves the building before he even touches his car door. (His clean up usually involves using bleach products, too). DH has a guy that got back from a cruise to Mexico last Monday so they're all watching him closely. And it's tough because there's a pretty serious cold/cough going around anyway and people are looking at anyone who coughs like they have the plague. DH and son both had it and are over it except for a mild lingering cough occasionally.

Just heard from my daughter who works in Westchester, a hotbed of COVID-19 activity. They just quarantined two people who work in her building, on her floor.

A school district south of me (near Indianapolis) has closed for two weeks. They have one confirmed case in an elementary school and a second student showing symptoms. So my question is, what is to keep the teenagers from the high school/middle school at home while the parents are at work? I know kids and they will think they are DYING if they can't be with their friends! And I will say I feel bad for those parents who now have to figure out child care for their kids who can't be home alone! I really don't see how now having to send all those kids to daycare facilities is going to help the issue.

fullmahina, hopefully it's just going to be precautionary. neen, I was wondering the same. If parents have to take off work to stay with their kids, then it's going to cascade. And, like you said, if the parents are at work, what's to keep the older kids in the house instead of "running the streets" (as my mom used to call it)?
