Happy Easter, dear friends!
On Easter morning, my mom would call me or I would call her with, "He is risen!" "The Lord is risen indeed!" would be the reply. I will remember this all the Easters of my life.
We had a very quiet day, except for the lightning, thunder, wind and resulting power outage. We are thankful there was no tornado here, as there was in north Louisiana. I have checked with my friend and former employee who lives in the area and she is safe, but without electricity. We were without electricity for over an hour and then again later for a shorter period of time.
Normally, on Easter we have a big family dinner and enjoy mimosas before dinner. I had a tiny bottle of champagne this evening to celebrate. DH and I enjoyed a spiral-cut ham, baked sweet potatoes and fresh beets from the garden for dinner. It is amazing how good beets taste when they've never been frozen. Now we are settling in to watch God Friended Me.
Yesterday, we attempted another outdoor family get-together with DD1 & family and DD2. Unfortunately, the gnats were terrible and both DD2 and I had forgotten our vanilla spray. DD1 had an essential oil which helped, but it was really the Easter pictures Abby drew for us on stiff paper that saved the day. We used them as fans and managed about 45 minutes before we gave it up and headed home. At least we got to see everyone and we dropped off the candy and window clings that comprised our Easter gifts for the kids. Abby was impressed that the plastic eggs had $ in them.
This morning, I chatted with DD3, Madison and Leah. Madison said the window clings and stickers were "just right" because they had not been able to go to the dollar store and get any. She was delighted that the Easter Bunny left her a ticket for extra iPad time, a rare commodity in her house. Afterwards, I attended Mass online with Fr. Mike Schmitz, a favorite priest who is in Minnesota.
I was unable to walk yesterday due to gnats and today because of weather. I hereby pledge that if I cannot walk tomorrow, I will hit the recumbent bike. The scale is creeping up and I REALLY need to get a grip before I am forced to buy a new wardrobe. My selections are down to elastic waist pants. I did get up and dressed, did my hair and makeup today. I figure I shouldn't punish DH, who is stuck here with me, by slacking on my grooming.
Lots of severe storm warnings still being issued east of here, but I am hoping the worst is past us. Wishing all of you a happy and holy Easter!
