Here we go at the beginning of another week. Its starting to get real fall look here- not that the leaves are turning colors but the angle of the sun has changed and it looks less harsh outside, even though the temperatures are still summer like. I slept late this am- anything past 6:30 is late for me- but I had trouble falling asleep last night. I am getting a new mattress in 2 weeks, the mattress I wanted is on back order. The mattress I have now was pretty much something that Dh wanted, and because he was having a lot of trouble sleeping then I let him pick the perfect mattress for him. Hopefully this new mattress will be better for me- I have been sleeping on DD’s bed and used that as the criteria for a new mattress. I bought the mattress online (not so sure I would like to try out mattresses in a store). I had bought from this company for my mom and the mattress was perfect....I am hoping for a similar experience this time.
CJ- that walkabout quilt is pretty!!! Such a strong and dramatic pattern and with only 3 fabrics, pretty easy to select fabrics if you have fabrics that work together. I liked all the different combinations and liked that the pattern worked with different types of fabrics- florals, geometric and animal prints. It would make a lovely gift....I can see using some patriotic fabrics for a veterans quilt....or lovely fall colors....but that is my personal taste. Cannot wait to see what fabrics you select for it!!
Ruth - did you return to the shawl last night or make more headbands?? Are you working on a hat also, I know for awhile you were hoping to make hats on Sunday.
Hard to believe that here schools will open in 2 weeks. I got a call from work last week asking my availability for work- and to keep myself busy I will work some. So I do not get killed with taxes I will not work much- and who knows how it will be with me going to work- if I still enjoy it or dislike it. Not all schools in my area are opening in the traditional way- most have some sort of hybrid of opening between remote only several days in the classroom and some days at home. I did get to work on the pillowcase last night and am anxious to finish it and move on to another project.

Hello Crafters - Welcome to a new week - the last full week of August - yeah, summer is almost over I've seen people list their most favorite to least favorite seasons and find that interesting. Mine are Fall (most favorite), then Winter, then Spring, then Summer (least favorite). I'd love to hear what yours are. Ruth - Glad to hear the smoke is getting better. Ginny - I hope your mattress is delivered soon and that it's just what you like. I really need a new mattress too, and I agree about not wanting to go in a store right now. I'm glad you are able to work a few hours and hopefully you'll stay safe. Thanks for sharing that link, the Storm at Sea pattern is so beautiful. Are you thinking about making one? Phyl - The fabrics in the Winter White line are beautiful. The panels for that line are really pretty too. I'm going to check out some more of Holly Taylor's fabric lines. It's nice that you were able to get out and do a bit of shopping. Sue and Rene - Hope you are doing some crafting. It's hot here today, in the 90s and supposed to be that way most of the week. We did have a shower come through but fortunately no heavy rain. I finished sewing together the blocks for each of the 10 rows on the Oh My Stars quilt. Now I just have to sew the 10 rows together and put on the borders. I'm liking the way it's looking now that I see all the blocks coming together. Take care everyone!

Happy new week to all you lovely crafters! CJ, I'm glad that now that you have your blocks together that you like the quilt. Creating all those quilt tops and quilts not only must be very pleasurable and you look at the beauty you created but also brings back memories of the time when you made each particular one. You sound like me in collecting patterns. I have too many to even look through to find what I want to make. Ginny, it's great that you've ordered a mattress and will have it soon. I pray that it turns out to be exactly what you want and meets all your needs in a mattress. Phyl, you do travel . It's so enjoyable looking at beautiful fabrics. Well I didn't work on the shawl at all yesterday and didn't make hats either. I decided that earwarmers would take the place of hats yesterday. Some people don't like wearing hats but do like earwarmers esp if they're trendy. Last year the twisted earwarmer was the trendy item that the people in the crochet groups said sold like hotcakes at their craft fairs. The item that's being made most and requested most right now seems to be this pocket shawl so in earwarmers who knows. I don't have too much to go on the actual body of this shawl then I'll make the pockets. I think I have to set aside a day to finish at least the most recent of unfinished things esp the ones that are going to be gifts.I have to make a new list of whatever else I need to get done before wrapping and packing said gifts. There isn't much else I don't think Have a good evening everyone.

Good evening- nice to see everyone here today....
Ruth, lists sure do help when you are wondering what project to finish and you are pressed for time. Do you have any deadlines coming up soon- like fall birthdays that you need to finish projects for? I think both the pocket shawl and ear warmers sound wonderful. The pocket shawls are a lot more work but can really span 3 seasons. Both projects are so useful especially with fall coming soon. I know the pocket shawls are for your DGD- are the ear warmers for family also or are they to be donated??
Gee CJ- you saved more patterns than I did!!! I am seriously looking at that storm at sea quilt- which I love for the lllusion it creates without cutting or sewing any curves. That is the pattern i saved.....and lets see- its about 5th in line for me to make after I finish what I have in the house. Glad you liked that site. My son went to Raymour and Flannagan and said he was treated well and that they have a good sale. I went on Mattress Firms web site and live chatted with an agent. You fill out all kinds of questions before you even chat with an agent, and then the agent himself asks even more questions. He was super perceptive and from the description of the mattress online by the manufacturer - hit all my concerns and wants perfectly. Plus they were able to work within my price too. The mattress also has a 3 month guarantee so I am anxious to have it delivered in 10 days. Well, after some consideration my favorite seasons are fall, winter, spring and summer. I dont mind a nice summer day- but the temps cannot go over 72 and i need cool evenings. Fall is just magnificent and I dont mind cold weather. My issue with spring is that sometimes it becomes instant summer, and I am not a big fan of summer. And back to storm at sea, - yes that would be lovely in teals and blues.....just like those teal fabrics you posted the other day.
Phyl- sounds like a wonderful outing heading to the Pickett Fence quilt shop. Do you have plans or the fabrics you bought or did you get them just because?? Bet you had a tough time staying away from the fall decor items, I know I would. Those winter white fabrics are lovely- I can easily see why you bought them. Such classic patterns and a lovely understated look. Hope you got in your play pen today.
Gonna work on the pillow case in a few minutes. I am watching a hockey game “with” my nephew in Ohio- of course I am home and he is in Ohio. I expect we will text back and forth a few times.....seems odd to watch hockey in an empty arena and also strange to see Stanley Cup playoffs in August. Think the normal season starts in October- as if anything is normal these days.
Have a good night all g

My message just disappeared. I was looking back to see what was said.
Ginny, it sounds as though you got some valuable info on the mattress. It must be a good company. I know that many mattress companies give you 100 nights to decided if you want to keep the mattress or not. I also had said that it seems that most of us here really like teal in various shades. I was working with some leftover yarn yesterday that was a deep teal, no label though so I don't know what brand it was but it felt wonderful...like a very soft expensive suede. Could be Bernat satin but I don't think so. I do have some of that so I'll check. There was only a small amount in the little leftover ball that I had.
My father in law was a huge hockey fan. He was Canadian and I think that many, many Canadians are hockey fans.We did watch hockey with him when we were there visiting back in 06 but neither dh nor I are interested in it. In fact my dh is not interested in any sports. I'm a football fan but doubt that I will watch any even if they go ahead with it this season.
Yes the earwarmers are mostly all for donating along with the hats. I did make a couple for the grandchildren too but I've made them some before so they probably have all they want.I've been working on the shawl today.
Have you decided on a pillowcase for your grandchildren that have asked for one? Sounds like you have a long list of projects too.

I thought that Canadian babies were born with ice skates on!!!! Its no surprise that your father in law, Ruth, was a hockey fan... many in the Buffalo area of NY are - as a matter of fact a lot of upstaters are. Its one nice way to be outside during a long NY winter. The shawl you are making is for your DGD, right?? I looked at a few patterns for them last night and they are so striking- so very pretty. I might make one for myself. Haha - in my spare time- after I get all the other projects done. But they look so comfy and snuggly- great for a fall/winter lover like myself.
I need to finish this pillowcase and then get busy with the Christmas quilts...perhaps a better strategy for the grandkids is to get the pillowcases and make them for each child as a birthday gift. The next birthday is for DGD#2 in March.
Got a little bit of work done on the pillowcase last night- and I am getting close to done. Think I have two butterflies left to finish and they are not difficult. Last night I started watching the hockey game while cleaning up some paperwork, so the entire game time was not spent embroidering.

I'm glad to hear that you are almost done with your pillowcase project. Your list is probably as long as mine.
Yes the shawls are for birthdays coming up and so is the Sid, the sword and shield and the stuffed dino I plan to make next.
I'm home from my errand. Had to run over to dd's house and there I got to see my two great grandaughters. They are just so cute. The oldest that just turned 3 was leary of me. She hasn't seen me since Christmas but the other that is almost 11 months old was very friendly and allowed me to pick her up.
Now I'm home and will crochet and decide what else I need to do as in the dreaded cleaning.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - Glad you were able to get out and visit with family. Ginny - Hope you can get the pillowcase finished so you can start on your Christmas gifts. I finished piecing the Oh My Stars quilt and once it was done I saw a mistake. It's fairly significant, so I put the top aside and I'm going to see if I can bring myself to leave the mistake in or if I'm going to tear out some seams and try and fix it. I'll have to take off one of the borders and the seams from a few blocks. I'm really irritated with myself that I made this mistake, since I took my time laying this quilt out. I don't think I'd make another one of these. The instructions for putting on the borders were strange - first the left side, then the top, then the bottom, then the right side. And only the top and bottom borders were the accurate size the others were longer (and I did make sure I cut those the right size). It was just kind of an irritating quilt to make all along - even though it wasn't difficult. I need to clean out my sewing machine before I do any new project, and I should replace my needle too since I think it's been a few months since I did either. I was looking at some Facebook page and I thought this quilt looked really neat. It's just 2 fabrics. She says the squares come out to 6 1/2 inches and the outer border is 6 inches. This would be a nice quilt if you had 2 fabrics that go together well. And if you used the Magic 8 method for making half square triangles that would go faster. www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10217630835064317&set=gm.1447227412154996&type=3&theater&ifg=1Let me know if the link doesn't work and I'll post the picture of the quilt separately. It's hot here with a chance of storms. I was looking at the path of Hurricane Laura and once she hits the gulf coast and moves north it takes a sharp right and comes right over my area! I sure hope we don't get a lot of rain from this. I wish I could send all the rain to California to help them with the fires. Take care everyone!

CJ, I'm so sorry you found a mistake in your completed quilt top. That's so frustrating. I have a hard time leaving mistakes but lately I've finally overcome that and can leave the ones that I'm sure no one but me, and maybe even me, would not even be able to find. The picture link you posted did work and it's a beautiful quilt and looks as though it would be easy to make.

CJ- I’m so sorry that you found a mistake and that all my stories quilt. I’ve had that happen and it’s so discouraging. My advice to you is put the quilt down and walk away from it for a day or two and come back and see what you think. You might find in a day or two that the mistake doesn’t bother you as much, or that you feel better about it if you make the changes that you think you need to correct the problem. The picture for that other quilt came through beautifully, what is striking quilt and how neat that it’s only two fabrics!!
Ruth, so glad you got to see your little great granddaughter’s. Little ones just grow up so quickly.
Got a little bit more done on the pillowcase. But now it’s too late and I’m getting tired. Have a good night

Heading to the quilt shop this am with my friend- we both have coupons that expire soon enough and I need to get batting for the 2 Christmas quilts.
Prayers for those in the gulf coast who will be impacted by Hurricane Laura. And as CJ said- it would be so nice if we could share that rain with those regions impacted by wildfires...
