Our fire has really blown up 10 to 400 acreas and tonight its at 11,000. The gusty winds. People have been evacuated from the entire canyon. At the Northern end of the canyon is hb's cabin and acreage. just to the south on the other side of the road of that is our local ski area. Will the fire or Monday night's snow get there first?
We're fine over here on the other side of the valley, but I am definitely going to take down the two scotch pines that are making me edgy. And some overgrown shrubs on the west side.

Ruth, Think I sent the email to you last night.....make sure that this web site is open and ready for you to add the picture. Once you have the image in post images, then you are given the choice on how to share....select “direct link”. (They will assign a URL for your picture. Then come here, and you must use the reply to thread on the top right of the thread, not the quick reply option. If you use the regular reply to thread option, you are able to select what you want to insert (using the photo icon, its the 8th image from the right). You are given the choice to insert your URL from post images, so insert that URL (copy and pasted) there. Voila.
I am using an IPad, so don’t know how this will work for you...using a tablet or phone or whatever you are using. Looking forward to seeing what you post. I did send the directions that CJ wrote to you yesterday, perhaps she wrote them better than I did. G

Sue, hoping that the snow saves your husbands cabin and his acreage. Think they just covered the fire on the news and at the moment they indicate its at 0% containment. Think its a good idea to take down those trees if that helps keep your property safe. Hoping you and your family stay out of harms way through this...

Well I took this picture to make sure I did not miss any steps... made these pillows quite a few years ago, I took the class at Joanns during the summer. The instructor, a very nice lady, taught me lots of nuts and bolts of the process, but very little of the finesse aspects of quilting. She openly admitted that she was not an “anal quilter”. I made the one pillow there that day and used leftover fabric to make the second.

No I didn't make that. I saw it on some site a couple years ago. Just testing. My problem on their site was I didn't know how to make the URL come up. I've actually added pictures on this ww board but on another thread but it had to be pics with a URL and I didn't know how to make or find one for pictures so I had to find generic pics online.
Sue I sure hope that they can start to contain that fire and that the wind dies down so it doesn't spread. We have some of the smoke her but it's not real bad so far. I'll be praying for your safety and safey of your property.
Ginny, I love your pillows. Two ladies at Caps for Kids quilted. One was very particular about her work even though donating the quilts. I like that. Shows that she believed that even the poor deserve to have things that are carefully and lovingly made. The other was, as that woman told you, not an anal quilter.
I love the quilt on the build a bed site. It's only squares but the colors and patterns in the squares are so pretty

Hello Crafters Sue - I hope that you and your family will stay safe and that the fires will get contained soon. It sounds really scary for those in the area and path of the fire. Ginny - I like your brown fabrics in your pillows, those colors are blend in well with other colors. Hopefully you learned a few things in the class - it looks like those are set-in triangles on the sides and those are something I never liked to do, so good for you doing them Ruth - WOOHOO - you did it! I can't wait to see some pictures of your projects I like that orange quilt underneath the crochet afghan I've actually made a few quilt tops where all I did was sew large squares together. I like the fabrics and didn't want to cut them up. It seems a bit warmer here today and maybe more humid. I just stuck my head out the back door and then shut it again and I've turned on the AC and fans. I had a migraine all yesterday afternoon and into the evening. I took some strong medication but that didn't even completely knock it out, so I wondered if having the windows open caused it. Hopefully I won't get one today. I finished my red bowtie blocks and the broken dishes one too. I'm going to post some pictures in separate posts. I'll also be checking out the blogs at Slow Sunday Stitching. Hope everyone has a great day and gets to do some crafting

Here are my red bowtie blocks for this month's challenge. Each month I use 4 different fabrics and make two sets of bowties. One set I keep as single bowtie blocks. The other set I combine 4 blocks and make the round block of bowties.

Here are all my Broken Dishes blocks so far this year, please ignore all the crocked edges and points that don't match

Last one. Here are my hourglass blocks so far. I make 4 hour glass blocks and sew them together into one large block. I didn't do a red block since it was too dark, but I'll do yellow next month and then be done. There's one picture to show you how the block looks, and then the other picture is all the ones I've done so far so you can see the fabrics. I've just overlapped them to make it easy to photograph. Ginny - There are the ones that bothered me on my design wall since they just looked so "blah" all together. I guess not having enough darker fabrics made it that way. I like them a bit better seeing them together like this. I think if I can lay them out the right way, the quilt will hopefully come out all looking alright.

CJ- that hourglass quilt is adorable!! I can see why if you separated the colors they might not have the same impact as when they are all together- but i really like it- and like your fabric selection. Its got a light and whimsical look to it- just darling. Sometimes it takes taking a picture for layout- or the right border to make a quilt pop. You have a great eye for color and will be able to work this out just fine. Got any idea what color border you will put with this? Now I am about ready to jump through the IPad screen and blow raspberries at you. The broken dishes quilt blocks are very pretty and NOONE other than you is looking at corners that do not match absolutely perfectly or that you did not square up your blocks yet. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Its really pretty. How cool is it that the bow tie blocks look totally differently when by themselves or put together?? Nice job....and the yellow ones next month will be very striking for sure. I like yellow . Here too the humidity is starting to creep a little bit. I am hoping to keep the AC off for one more day....but I am a bit north of you so it is probably not as warm. Ruth, indeed that orange quilt is so cheery....and hey, congrats on getting pictures posted!!! It just seems much more fun when we can see what we are all working on.... that orange quilt could have been made from a charm pack of 5 inch squares, which means no cutting at all- just sewing the blocks together. I do that with Baby quilts or even the right adult quilt. (You can do this if you want to!). But we know your real love is crochet. My online quilting buddy makes the most magnificent quilts....to be donated to veterans (quilts of honor), or the local hospital for chemo patients.... So I do agree with you that donated items should be beautiful too. Anyway that orange quilt sure is pretty and could be very simple to make. So now in the realm of how nuts am I - remember that dog coat that Ruth posted the directions for? Well I had all the yarn out and was going to start that once the embroidery is done.(which will be very very soon). The dog coat was for my friends dog- and I wanted to make it because I have yarn the PERFECT color to match her dog. Found other yarns to go with it and I was ready to start. My friends daughter is staying with her for awhile- and this dog was originally her daughters. I forgot that her daughter also crochets- so long story short she will be making the dog coat with my yarn (happy to get rid of it!). Then i found this neat pattern for myself, again super simple and I already took out the yarn to make this. margoknits.com/easy-crochet-blanket-cardigan/Ruth working on those pocket shawls got me thinking about them- and this is similar and looks easy enough. Got the perfect yarn for it too and I bet it will be nice to have on a chilly day. Doubt that will be my crafting for the day, but if it is, well I still got something done. Stay well Ginny

Tomorrow morning a Type I Management Team will be taking over the fire. Hopefully, information will be available at regular intervals. Last night some mapping was done, and the estimated acreage is now 7,000 acres.
hb is having trouble understanding the scope of the fire. Another piece of information that's gone is where a road he's known all his life is in relationship to the property. This morning he wanted to go look but had forgotten that the roads are all closed and that there was mandatory evacuation. It's not registering that this could be for a longer time period if tomorrow night's cold and damp doesn't put it out. The weather map looks like most of the wet stuff is going to be the south of us. I sure hope not.
So far the ski area is okay.

CJ,again you have posted examples of what a great skill you have in selecting colors and patterns in those colors that are go together harmoniously. I don't see a thing wrong with the blocks you posted and where the points don't meet and crooked sides is only in blocks you haven't trimmed yet (or whatever it is that you do before sewing them together.) I have looked at that orange quilt of the build a bed site several times and never noticed the crochet blanket until this morning. How strange is that.
Ginny the shawl pattern you posted is very nice but did you notice that you make two separate panels and sew them together? My seam skills are not good so I stay away from the things that need a long seam. Mine would look awful
Sue it's good to hear that they're bringing in an even more skillful team to fight that fire. I hope it's out soon
I was having a terrible time with my treble crochet cluster pocket shawl last evening and this morning. I did exactly what the woman in the video said to do and did what she did but I pulled it out about 6 times and finally did my own thing and it worked. However I had started with it larger and finally just went down to swatch size to keep trying so I now have a small strip instead of a wide shawl so I'm going to complete this strip and then crochet around it to make it shawl size. I'm trying to decide already on what stitch I'll use to crochet around. Maybe a fp/bp. I think that would look nice in a shawl/scarf.
Rene and Phyl, what are you up to today? I hope you're having a good one. Rene I've been disappointed that Forged in Fire hasn't been on in the last two weeks. I hope it starts up again soon. Dh and I love that show.

Sue- hoping too that with the new fire management team the fire can be controlled quickly - and also that the weather cooperates . I had to read up on what a type 1 management team is- and it seems as though they will provide the highest level of expertise for this situation, bringing in all the required specialities. Just gotta hope and pray that they can quickly get things under control with minimal damage... it must be heartbreaking not only to have to deal with this senseless destruction of a beautiful area but also Dh’s inability to fully comprehend what is going on. You will be in my prayers for patience, guidance and wisdom...
Ruth, yes I am aware that the shawl needs to be seamed. You have the gift of handling difficult patterns.....seams do not bother me much- but I need simple patterns! Think the fp/BP will look really nice in the shawl.....have you settled on that??? This week you get your hot water heater fixed, right? Hope that while you are waiting for the repair it has not been too much of an inconvenience....
Have a good night all G
